As author John Piper once wrote, “We weren’t meant to be somebody – we were meant to know Somebody.”

While Christ was teaching the disciples, He taught them that success was a by-product of knowing and obeying Him. As proof, when they obeyed Jesus by casting their net on the right side of the boat, they obtained a great haul of fish (John 21:6).

Also, he stressed the importance of sharing that success with others. One example of this is the three times Jesus told Peter to “feed my sheep” (John 21). As the Good Shepherd, Jesus has other sheep not of this fold to bring to Him (John 10:16).

Ask yourself this…

As His under-shepherd, who are the sheep God is calling in you to bring to Him in your neighborhood, workplace, health club, or sphere of influence?

I invite you to read on to find easy ways to connect with them and help lead them down the path of discipleship.

The journey to discipleship begins with the first step. The same way a baby needs a bit of help learning to walk, new disciples need a bit of help beginning their walk with God. That is why God called myself and a good friend, Steve Janovec, to do two key things.

First, we felt God leading us to reach our town with the gospel, neighborhood by neighborhood. Second, knowing that we couldn’t do this alone, we felt called to both ask for help and make the process of being involved as easy as possible. To do this, we are launching a ministry effort called Connect to Your Town.

The first Connect to Your Town weekend will be Dec. 4th and 5th. There are a few ways you can help that will fit both your time availability and your calling.

One way you can help is by being a host family. We will explain more about this in an upcoming training. Basically, host families take ownership of their neighborhood.

Other ways will be sharing the message with people in your workplace and other spheres of influence including the parents of children in clubs and activities your child participates in. While there are many other ways of helping to share the message, the easiest way to start is by connecting with your existing relationships.

For example, I have a friend who’s a teacher in an inner-city school. He started an after-school Bible club in his elementary school through Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Other areas of need for our Dec. 4-5 launch include: participation on our planning team, getting trained to use practical disciple making tools, prayer (it’s the most important part), prayerwalking, and knocking on doors in neighborhoods with host families.

The weekend of Dec. 4-5 is just the beginning in launching this ministry.

When it comes to making the process as easy as possible, the second page of attached “Connect to Your Town” provides the steps in a simple worksheet. Also, it helps you identify: who do I share the message with, what message do I share, why am I sharing the message, and when do I share the message?

Let me share one example of this ministry in action. I asked a young man in the health club locker room how I could pray for him after being prompted by the Holy Spirit. We now meet weekly in a coffee shop. He’s still not a believer but getting closer.

To help you take that next step, reply by phone call, email, or text so I can email you the ‘Connect to Your Town’ information sheet to be filled out by November 27th.

By replying to this email, I can help you connect to your town.

Thanks for partnering with us in extending God’s kingdom in your town.

Sincerely in Christ,
