Economic recession, bank failures, huge government deficits, job losses and terrorism can strike fear in any one. Have you known someone who always wanted the final word? He or she gives a neat and tidy solution to the above problems that experts are still trying to figure out. Deep down that person was probably fearful and insecure.

There is someone who has the credentials and track record who truly has the final word. He is our shield and salvation in the midst of these adversaries (Psalm 3:3-8). Worldly investments can go south, but trusting the Lord is the best blue-chip investment. He always yields dividends both in this life and the one to come.

We demonstrate our trust in God when we call upon Him instead of relying on worthless and deceptive things (Psalm 4:2-3; 5:1-3). We saw the multitude of worthless and deceptive bank loans where people didn’t have the good credit history or ability to pay back these same loans.

However, God is trustworthy. His lovingkindness and righteousness is incomparable. God’s favor toward us is ever present (Psalm 5:7-8,12). Nothing we face comes close to encountering God’s favor.

Fear drives many to seek control of a situation. In contrast, God casts out fear from our lives if we call upon Him. Pursuing worthless and deceptive things can be our greatest hindrance to living godly lives. Meditating on God and praying fervently brings His favor so we fulfill God’s destiny for our lives.

What fear are you facing where you need to call upon God?
