We are bombarded by sexually explicit TV shows, movies, and ads every day. Casual sex and cohabitation is widely accepted. Abstinence is thought of as an impossibility. Marriage is becoming passé for many people. The family unit is under attack and single parent households are becoming the norm. Consider the difference between wisdom and moral impurity. What do they each produce? The kind of friends you have also determine whether you walk in wisdom or moral impurity. Proverbs 4-5 shows that wisdom and right friends lead to moral purity.
Wisdom
Let your heart hold to sound teaching as you obey God’s word and live. Acquire wisdom to live skillfully in practical areas and understanding for insight and discernment. Wisdom produces safety, protection, exaltation, honor, grace, beauty, long life, upright paths, not stumble and life (Prov. 4:1-13). Allow your heart to gain wisdom and understanding for safety and true living.
Right Friends
Avoid the path of the wicked to keep from stumbling and darkness. The path of the righteous is like the light of dawn that shines brighter and brighter until the full day (Prov. 4:14-19). Walk in the path of the righteous so your light shine brightly.
Moral Purity
Keep God’s word in your heart for life and health. Watch your heart with all diligence for the springs of life flow from it. Put away deceitful and devious lips. Let your gaze be fixed straight in front of you so you don’t turn to the right or left. Avoid the adulteress whose lips drip honey with speech smoother than oil. Moral impurity produces ruin through bitterness, death and instability, along with loss of strength, finances and health. Rejoice in the wife of your youth and be satisfied with her love. Otherwise, you will die for lack of instruction and the cords of sin make you go astray. Remember the Lord watches your paths (Prov. 4:20-5:23). Keep God’s word in your heart and avoid the adulteress for life and health.
Consider what moral impurity produces:
ruin, bitterness, death, instability, loss of strength, loss of finances and loss of health
Now consider what wisdom produces:
safety, protection, exaltation, honor, grace, beauty, long life, upright paths, not stumble and life
Wisdom + Right Friends = Moral Purity
