Victor Hugo wrote that wisdom is sacred communion. Wisdom comes by disillusionment, according to George Santayana.

Robert Fulghum wrote, “Don’t worry that children never listen to you; worry that they are always watching you.”

Concerning friends, Henri Nouwen wrote, “When we honestly ask ourselves which person in our lives mean the most to us, we often find that it is those who, instead of giving advice, solutions, or cures, have chosen rather to share our pain and touch our wounds with a warm and tender hand.  The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not knowing, not curing, not healing and face with us the reality of our powerlessness, that is a friend who cares.”

Wisdom
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Gain wisdom, instruction, discernment, understanding, wise behavior, righteousness, justice, equity, prudence, knowledge, discretion, increased learning and wise counsel. Fools despise wisdom and instruction (Prov. 1:2-7). The fear of the Lord opens the door for wisdom in right living.

Wisdom shouts in the streets saying how long do the naïve love simplicity, scoffers light in scoffing and fools hate knowledge. Turn to my reproof and I will pour my spirit on you and make my words known to you. If you refuse, I will laugh at your calamity and mock when dread, distress and anguish come upon you. Instead of being destroyed through complacency, listen to live securely and be at ease from the dread of evil (Prov. 1:20-33). Wisdom enables you to live securely and be at ease from dread and distress.

Obeying Parents
Father’s instruction and mother’s teaching are graceful wreath to the head and ornament to the neck (Prov. 1:8-9). Listening to parents’ teachings grants favor in your life.

Proper Friends
Do not consent to sinner’s enticements, throw in your lot and walk with those who wait for blood, ambush the innocent without cause and find precious wealth. They ambush their own lives by taking it away (Prov. 1:10-19). Spending time with wrong friends destroys lives.

Wisdom comes from God, parents and friends. Do you fear God? Do you listen to the counsel of your parents. Do you have friends of good character that you spend time with? If so, you will live securely and be at ease from the dread of evil (Prov. 1:33).
