How to Be a Person of Influence (Insights in Prophets)

7/28/2011

Picture
Most of us have a desire to be a person of influence or make a difference in the world. World leaders like Hitler and Stalin tried to do it selfishly through power and control. God has a better way through the cross of Christ. David became a man of influence through his intimate relationship with God. He "redeemed David's life from all distress" (2 Sam. 4:9). In a similar way, let's study 2 Sam. 4-5 on how to be a person of influence in contrast to those who killed Ish-bosheth mentioned in the first paragraph.

Ish-bosheth, Saul's son, lost courage and all Israel was disturbed when Abner died. Two commanders of Ish-bosheth killed him while he was taking a nap and then presented his head to David at Hebron saying they had given the king vengeance on Saul (2 Sam. 4:1-8).
Selfish ambition motivates people to seek favor before those in power.

As the Lord lives who redeemed David's life from all distress, he said the person bringing news of Saul's death in Ziklag received the reward of death. How much more when wicked men killed a righteous man in his own house. David commanded Ish-bosheth's killers to be slayed (2 Sam. 4:9-12). The cross of Christ motivates people to act justly in spite of what people think.

All the tribes of Israel came to David saying they were "your bone and your flesh." During Saul's reign, they said David led as shepherd and ruler over Israel. The elders made a covenant with David and anointed him king over Israel (2 Sam. 5:1-5). People follow and support those who care and lead them with integrity.

David and his men captured Jerusalem, stronghold of Zion, city of David, against the Jebusites where he lived. David became greater and greater for the Lord God was with him (2 Sam. 5:6-10). One's influence increases in direct proportion to their intimacy with God.

Hiram king of Tyre sent cedar trees, carpenters and stonemasons to build a house for David. He realized that the Lord had established him as king over Israel and exalted his kingdom for the sake of His people Israel (2 Sam. 5:11-12). God imparts favor from others to realize your purpose and destiny.

David took more concubines and wives from Jerusalem and more sons and daughters were born to him (2 Sam. 5:13-16).
God uses imperfect people.

The Philistines sought out David and spread themselves out in the valley of Rephaim when he became king over Israel. David asked the Lord if he should battle and be victorious over the Philistines. The Lord said yes to both. David defeated them and said the Lord broke through his enemies like "the master of breakthrough." The Philistines abandoned their idols with David and his men carrying them away (2 Sam. 5:17-21). God gives wisdom on which assignments to accept in response to prayer.

The Philistines arrayed themselves in battle again. The Lord instructed David to circle around behind and come at them in front of the balsam trees. After hearing the sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees, they he should act promptly since the Lord had gone before them to strike the Philistines. David did as the Lord commanded and defeated them (2 Sam. 5:22-25). God gives strategy for pursuing your purpose and destiny in response to prayer.

Which of  the underlined principles is God using in your life to be a person of influence? Which one(s) can you apply to be a person of influence?

Setting Off God's Dominoes In Your Life (Insights in Law)

7/27/2011

Picture
Have any of you played dominoes? One domino starts a chain reaction knocking down all the others lined up next to each other. God has His own set of dominoes. When Israel left Egypt, they experienced God's presence after the Egyptian army was defeated at the Red Sea. Beginning with presence, the following dominoes were set off in order: worship, obedience, gratefulness, glory, provision, trust and testimony.

Presence

Moses and Israel sang to the Lord who is highly exalted as my strength, song, salvation and warrior. He cast Pharaoh’s chariots and army into the sea. Who is like God, majestic in holiness, awesome in praises and working wonders? In lovingkindness, He led His redeemed people in strength to His holy habitation.  God dismayed Edom's chiefs, leaders of Moah trembled and Canaan melted away. God gave the land to His people as a dwelling and inheritance so He could reign forever (Ex. 15: 1-18). God exalts His power, holiness and love against spiritual enemies so you can experience His presence.

Worship
The Lord brought back the Red Sea to bury Pharaoh’s chariots and horsemen while Israel walked on dry land. Miriam took timbrel and women danced. Sing to Lord for He is highly exalted (Ex. 15:19-21). Worship is the proper response to God’s wonderous workings and reign.

Obedience
Moses led Israel from the Red Sea to the wilderness for three days where they found no water. They couldn't drink the bitter waters of Marah so the people grumbled at Moses, “What shall we drink?” Moses cried out to the Lord who showed him a tree. He threw it into the waters, which became sweet, testing them to walk more closely with Him.  If they earnestly heard His voice, did right and obeyed His commandments, He would remove all Egypt's diseases as their healer. They camped beside the water in Elim with twelve springs of water and 70 date palms (Ex. 15:22-27).  Obeying God’s commands leads to good health and provision of basic needs.

Gratefulness

The congregation grumbled against Moses and Aaron saying death in Egypt with meat and bread was better than dying hungry in the wilderness (Ex. 16:1-3). God tests whether you have a grateful heart.

Glory
God rained bread from heaven so people could gather a day’s portion daily to test whether they would walk in His instruction. On the sixth day, they would gather twice as much. At evening, they knew the Lord brought them out of Egypt when they received meat and in the morning saw the glory of the Lord when He brought bread. The Lord heard their grumblings because it was against Him, not Moses and Aaron. When they received bread, the Lord's glory appeared in the cloud to prove He is God (Ex. 16:4-12). God shows off glory through His daily provision.

Provision

Quails covered the camp at night and layer of dew surrounded the camp. When the dew evaporated, it became bread to eat. He who gathered much had no excess and he who gathered little had no lack. Some did not listen to Moses and the bread left until morning bred worms and became foul (Ex. 16:13-21). God provides daily what you need.

Trust

The seventh day is a holy Sabbath observance for rest since they were to gather double on the sixth day. The Lord said to Moses concerning those who gathered on the Sabbath, “How long do you refuse to keep My commandments and My instructions?” (Ex. 16:22-30). Resting on the seventh day demonstrates your trust in God’s provision.

Testimony

The Lord commanded that an omerful of bread be kept in a jar of Testimony so all generations would see that He fed Israel in the wilderness after they left Egypt. Israel ate manna for 40 years until they came to Canaan (Ex. 16:31-36).

Which of the following dominoes has hindered your walk:
1. Presence
2. Worship
3. Obedience
4. Gratefulness
5. Glory
6. Provision
7. Trust
8. Testimony
Ask God to restore this domino(s) in your life so you have a testimony to share with others.

Obedience is Currency of God's Kingdom (Insights in NT)

7/26/2011

Picture
Man's kingdom consists of outcomes and performance gained through human effort. God's kingdom consists of obedience motivated by Christ through prayer. Planning and accountability mean everything in man's kingdom. In contrast, prayer and God's Word revolutionize planning and accountability, which lead to transformation of people in Christ.  The currency of God's kingdom is not money, but obedience.

Zaccheus, a rich chief tax-gatherer who was small in stature, climbed in a  sycamore tree to see Jesus who was in a crowd. He looked up and said for Zaccheus to come down as He must stay in his house. People grumbled that a sinner entertained Jesus. Zaccheus said he would give half of his possessions to the poor and give back four times as much to those he defrauded. Jesus said to him, "Today salvation has come to this house, because he, too, is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost" (Lk. 19:1-10). Your mission is to seek and transform people in the power of Christ.

Jesus told a parable about a nobleman who gave ten minas to each of his ten slaves so they could do business until he returned. Citizens hated him and sent a delegation saying they didn't want him to reign over them. After the nobleman returned, he called his slaves to learn what business they did. The first said his ten minas made ten minas more. The nobleman (master) commended the slave over his faithfulness and gave him authority over ten cities. The second made five minas and given authority over five cities. The third hid his mina in a handkerchief because he was afraid. The master said to take away the mina and give it to the one who had ten minas since he should have at least collected interest by putting it in a bank (Lk. 19:11-27). Increased resources are  given to obedient stewards of God's kingdom while disobedient ones experience spiritual and physical death.

Jesus told two disciples to bring a tied and unused colt and say to those who asked, 'The Lord has need of it.' With Jesus on the colt, a multitude of disciples praised God saying, "Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord; peace in heaven and glory in the highest!" When Pharisees said He should rebuke His disciples, Jesus responded, "if these become silent, the stones will cry out!" (Lk. 19:28-40).  The currency of God's kingdom is Jesus as King motivating obedience.

Jesus wept over Jerusalem because they rejected the peace He offered since He was hidden from their eyes. In the future, enemies would destroy their families because they didn't recognize His coming (Lk. 19:41-44). Rejecting Jesus causes destruction and lack of peace.

He entered the temple and cast out those who were selling saying His house shall be a house of prayer, but they made it a robbers' den (Lk. 19:45-46). Foundation of prayer empowers obedience.

Jesus taught daily in the temple but religious and influential men tried to destroy Him. In contrast, all the people were hanging upon His words (Lk. 19:47-48).  Listening to God's word provides content for obedience.

Instead of performance, watch God work as you spend time in His word, pray Scripture back to Him and obey what He tells you to do in seeking and saving the lost as He provides resources for kingdom business.

Key to Happiness (Insights in Psalms)

7/24/2011

Picture
People keep searching for the key to happiness. People fill their lives with so many things: working on a computer,  talking on their cell phones, listening to the radio, watching the television, combing our hair, etc. The more multi-tasking one can do the better, we often reason. God has another plan. He wants us to be living in the present moment through our relationship with God. Psalm 91 shows how you can trust God's power for security and protection so you can enjoy life.

Trust
I trust the Supreme and Almighty God as "my refuge and my fortress." God delivers you from snares and destruction. Under His wings and faithfulness, you seek refuge (Ps. 91:1-4). Trust God's faithfulness and power to deliver you from destruction.

Security
You don't have to be afraid of terror, arrows, pestilence or destruction by day or night. No harm will come near you. Since God pays back the wicked, security comes when you make God your refuge and dwelling place. No evil or plague will come against you (Ps. 91:5-10). Make God your security in an ever-changing and evil world.

Protection
God's angels guard you in all your ways, both defensively and offensively. They lift you up so you don't experience major harm and allow you to defeat evil powers (Ps. 91:11-13). God sends angels to protect and defeat evil powers against you.

Satisfaction
Because you love Him, God delivers and sets you securely on high because of your intimate relationship with Him. He answers your prayers and is present in trouble. He rescues and honors you. Satisfaction in a long life comes as you feast  your eyes on His deliverance, which leads to good health and prosperity (Ps. 91:14-16). God rescues and satisfies you with everything to enjoy.

Answer the following questions:
1. What are you fearful or anxious about?
2. What do you see that could hurt you?
3. Where do you need help in a relationship or activity?
Live in the present by taking each of these concerns to God on a moment-by-moment basis so His angels can minister to you continuously.

Discover Your Sweet Spot (Insights in Prophets)

7/23/2011

Picture
Everyone wants to discover God's will for their lives. What does He want you to do so you can live a significant life?
How do you discover and live out your destiny? As David became king over  Israel and Judah, he discovered a convergence between his desires, passions and gifts, talents and abilities, which determined his sweet spot. As he asked God, this information helped him discover his purpose and destiny. God's sovereignty enabled David to walk in his sweet spot, ultimately leading toward his destiny.  In a similar way, He wants you to discover your sweet spot and destiny so you can live it out.

During the long war between house of Saul and house of David, the latter  grew steadily stronger and house of Saul grew weaker continually (2 Sam. 3:1-5). God imparts strength in the spiritual battle to accomplish your destiny.

Abner was making himself strong in house of Saul. He planned to transfer the kingdom from the house of Saul and establish the throne of David over Israel and Judah. Ish-bosheth, Saul's son, was afraid of Abner (2 Sam. 3:6-11). God's sovereignty provides confidence in accomplishing your destiny.

Abner sent messengers so he could make a covenant to bring Israel to David. David asked for Michal, Saul's daughter and his former wife. Michal's husband wept when  Ish-bosheth took her (2 Sam. 3:12-16). Don't be concerned what others think as you pursue your destiny.

Abner consulted Israel's elders saying they wanted David to be king over them. Abner said to do it for the Lord has spoken of David that he would save Israel from the Philistines and all their enemies. It seemed good to Israel and house of Benjamin that David may "be king over all that your soul desires" (2 Sam. 3:17-21). You experience favor from others when you pursue your passion.

After Joab returned from a raid, he asked David why he sent Abner away. Joab said that Abner came to deceive and gather intelligence about David (2 Sam. 3:22-25). Others try to make you wander from your sweet spot.

When Joab took revenge on Abner for killing his brother Asahel, David said he and his kingdom were innocent. They had no part in killing Abner. David cursed Joab house so they would experience disease, death and poverty (2 Sam. 3:26-30). Integrity and upholding truth maintain positioning within your sweet spot.

David told Joab and the people to mourn Abner since he fell before the wicked. It pleased all the people that David fasted the whole day over Abner's death. They understood that it wasn't David's intention to have Abner killed since he considered him a prince and great man. David said he was weak, though anointed king, and sons of Zeruiah were too difficult for him. "May the Lord repay the evil doer according to his evil" (2 Sam. 3:31-39). Sharing your desires and passions along with assessing your gifts, talents and abilities result in favor or disfavor with others.

To gain clarity about your sweet spot and destiny, answer the following questions:
1. What are your desires concerning your life as it relates to your family, job, living conditions, etc.?
2. What passions keep you awake at night?
3. What are your gifts, talents and abilities?
4. As you compare answers to the above three questions, what convergences or common themes do you discover? This defines your sweet spot.
5. Ask why God gave you this sweet spot. What purpose or need does God want you to uniquely fulfill in operating out of your sweet spot? This defines your destiny.

Facing An Impossible Situation (Insights in Law)

7/20/2011

Picture
Think of the most impossible situation you ever faced. Do you think God can handle it? Have you ever seen Him work when the odds were stacked against you? The children of Israel faced an impossible situation when they were backed in a corner next to the Red Sea and Pharaoh's army fast approaching to kill them. Let's see how they responded.

Set apart the first-born of every womb in Israel since it belongs to God. Moses told people to remember how God's power allowed them to leave Egypt, the house of slavery. After entering Canaan, a land flowing with milk and honey, they would eat unleavened bread for seven days and observe a feast on the seventh day. They were to tell their children about the Lord's powerful deliverance. It would serve as a sign to their hand and reminder on their forehead (Ex. 13:1-10).
Remember and share deliverance from sin through the cross of Christ with your children.

The Lord passed over and redeemed the first-born male as it belonged to Him. Say to your children that "with a powerful hand the Lord brought us out of Egypt, from the house of slavery." When Pharaoh was stubborn, the Lord killed Egypt's first-born and redeemed Israel's first-born as a sign on their hands and frontlet-bands on their foreheads in  remembering God's deliverance (Ex. 13:11-16). Share Christ's victory over sin and the evil one with your children.

God led them by way of the land of the Philistines so they wouldn't change their minds when they saw war and returned to Egypt. He led around through the wilderness to the Red Sea in martial array from Egypt. The Lord went before and led them in a pillar of cloud by day and pillar of fire by night to give them light (Ex. 13:17-22). God leads you into spiritual warfare to embrace His redemption daily.

God hardened Pharaoh's heart saying the wilderness blocked them so the Egyptians would know He is Lord. After discovering that Israel fled Egypt, Pharaoh had officers lead Egypt's chariots, including 600 select ones, to chase after them (Ex. 14:1-9). God uses peoples' hardened hearts and impossible situations to show He is Lord.

When Israel saw Pharaoh's army marching after them, they became very frightened  and cried out to the Lord. The people complained that Moses wanted them to die in the wilderness, "Leave us alone that we may serve the Egyptians? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness." Moses said to not fear, but see the Lord 's salvation today. "The Lord will fight for you while you keep silent" (Ex. 14:10-14). The Lord fights when you face impossible odds.

The Lord told Moses to stop praying and tell the sons of Israel to go forward as he lifted his staff over the sea to divide it so Israel would walk on dry land. God hardened the hearts of the Egyptians to follow them so He would be honored and know that He is Lord. The angel of God and pillar of cloud moved behind them and between camp of Egypt and camp of Israel (Ex. 14:15-20). The Lord protects as you go forward against impossible odds.

When Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, the Lord turned it into dry land and waters divided. Sons of Israel went through it on dry land with the waters like a wall on both sides. The Lord brought the Egyptian army into confusion by causing their chariot wheels to swerve. They saw the Lord fighting against them (Ex. 14:21-25). The Lord uses miracles to make a way in impossible situations.

When Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, it returned to its normal state and the Lord defeated the Egyptians in the midst of the sea. He saved Israel from the Egyptians who were dead on the seashore. When Israel saw God's great power, they feared and believed in the Lord and his servant Moses (Ex. 14:26-31). God saves and gives you victory over the world, flesh and devil.

What is an impossible situation you are facing right now? Embrace the cross of Christ and let Him fight the battles. Go forward and trust Him to give you victory over the enemy, whether it's the world, flesh or devil.

God Answers Persistent Prayer (Insights in NT)

7/18/2011

Picture
The best and most neglected activity in God's kingdom is prayer. God responses to persistent, bold and specific prayer. Praying for my dad's salvation for greater than 30 years tested my faith, but God wanted to develop my dependence upon Him by continuing to lift Him up before the throne of grace. Persistent prayer shows we are humble. God exalts the humble. Prayer is a major activity in helping people experience forgiveness of sin. In the context of prayer, James closes with the statement "he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death, and will cover a multitude of sins (James 5:16-20).

Christ shared a parable that at all times they should pray and not lose heart. An unrighteous judge gave legal protection to a widow because she kept coming to him. God will bring about justice speedily to His children who cry to Him day and night because of their faith (Lk. 18:1-8). God answers persistent prayer to Him if you don't lose heart.

Jesus told a parable about a man who trusted in their righteousness and viewed others with contempt. Two men went to the temple for prayer: a Pharisee and tax-gatherer. The Pharisee boasted that he wasn't like other people: swindlers, adulterers or like this tax-gatherer. He fasted twice a week and paid tithes. The tax-gatherer said, "God, be merciful to me, the sinner!" This man was justified rather than the Pharisee (Lk. 18:9-14). He who exalts himself will be humbled and he who humbles himself will be exalted.

Let children come to Christ and don't hinder them because the kingdom of God belongs to them. One enters the kingdom like a child (Lk. 18:15-17). Do everything you can to help people experience forgiveness of sin through Christ.

A ruler questioned Jesus on what should he do to inherit eternal life. Jesus said no one is good except God alone and told him to keep the Ten Commandments. After the ruler said he had kept them, Jesus told him to sell all he possessed and distribute to the poor so he could have treasure in heaven by following Him. As an extremely rich ruler, he went away sad. Jesus said it is hard for the wealthy to enter the kingdom of God. After Peter said he and the disciples had left their home to follow Christ, He said all who have left house or family for the sake of the kingdom of God will receive many times as much in this life and in the age to come, eternal life (Lk. 18:18-30). Those who follow Christ and not the world will receive great temporal and eternal reward.

Jesus took the twelve aside and said that in Jerusalem, He would be mocked, mistreated, scourged and killed by the Gentiles and rise again on the third day. What He said was hidden to the disciples since they couldn't understand (Lk. 18:31-34). As disciples of Christ, you take up the cross by humbling yourself and being exalted like Him.

While Jesus approached Jericho and after learning He was coming, a blind beggar said, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!" Others sternly told him to be quiet, but he kept crying out. Jesus stood and commanded that he be brought to Him and asked, "What do you want Me to do for you?" He requested that his sight be regained. Jesus said, "Receive your sight; your faith has made you well." The blind man followed Him and glorified God (Lk. 18:35-43). Persistent, bold and specific prayer is answered once you get Christ's attention.

Begin persistent prayer for a person so they can experience forgiveness of sin or situation where you take up your cross to follow Christ. hat person or situation remembering His promise in Heb. 7:25.

How Not to Waste Your Life (Insights in Psalms)

7/17/2011

Picture
Many people waste their life on earth. They don't make the most of their time. John Piper wrote, "Fight for us, O God, that we not drift numb and blind and foolish into vain and empty excitements. Life is too short, too precious, too painful to waste on worldly bubbles that burst. Heaven is too great, hell is too horrible, eternity is too long that we should putter around on the porch of eternity." Psalm 90 brings these truths to the forefront on how not to waste your life.

God has been our dwelling place in all generations. He has existed forever. Man's life is short since a 1000 years is like yesterday when it passes by or like grass that sprouts anew and fades in the evening (Ps. 90:1-6). Life is short and God is eternal.

God places our iniquities and secret sins in the light of His presence. Our days last 70 years and up to 80 years due to strength. They are filled with pride, labor and sorrow. It will soon be gone.  Teach us to number our days so we may gain a heart a wisdom (Ps. 90:7-12). Wisdom buys up opportunities on earth so you don't waste your life.

Ask God to satisfy us in the morning with His lovingkindness so we can be joyful in the midst of evil. Give permanence to our work as we see His blessing and favor (Ps. 90:13-17). Participate with God in His work so you have the satisfaction of eternal impact.

Each morning before you begin your day, go through the following process:
1. Praise God for His love to you
2. Ask God for wisdom on how you should spend your time
3. Where do you see God at work?
4. Write down on a do-list how you can join God in His work
5. Prioritize by doing the most important item(s) first
6. Move uncompleted items to the top of next day's list and begin this process again

Benefits of Close Relationships with God and Others (Insights in Prophets)

7/16/2011

Picture
How pleasant for brothers to dwell in unity (Ps. 133).  Selfishness and unreconciled relationships cause death, bitterness and conflicts.  But obedience to God, love and friendship lead to reward, exaltation and victory. I have experienced both sides of the equation. There is no comparison between the two. Unfortunately, Israel and Judah became enemies and both suffered as a result. However, David was a shining exception who benefited from close relationships with God and others.

David learned of Saul and Jonathan's death from a man who said he killed Saul after he was severely wounded. The man said he took Saul's crown and bracelet and brought them to David. He
and his men tore their clothes, mourned, wept and fasted until evening over the deaths of Saul, Jonathan and house of Israel. After David asked the young man why is he was not afraid to destroy the Lord's anointed, he was killed (2 Sam. 1:1-16). Seeking reward for selfish purposes leads to death.

David chanted a lament over Saul and Jonathan and told them to teach Judah this song. "Your beauty , O Israel, is slain on your high places! How have the mighty fallen! Tell it not in Gath, . . . lest the daughters of the uncircumcised exult. . . . I am distressed for you, my brother Jonathan; you have been very pleasant to me. Your love to me was more wonderful than the love of women. . . ." (2 Sam. 1:17-27). Friendship and love are life's greatest reward.

The Lord told David he should go to Hebron after asking what He should do. David, his two wives and men with him, all lived in the cities of Hebron. Men of Judah anointed David king over house of Judah. David sent messengers to Jabesh-gilead to bless them for burying Saul (2 Sam. 2:1-7). Obedience to God leads to exaltation.

Abner, Saul's commander, made Ish-bosheth, son of Saul, king over Israel, for two years. House of Judah followed David in Hebron for seven years and six months. Abner's men met Joab's men and had a contest with 12 each for Benjamin & Ish-bosheth and David's servants. The battle was severe and David's servants defeated Abner and Israel's men (2 Sam. 2:8-17). Obedience to God leads to victory.

The brothers, Joab, Abishai and Asahel, were present with the latter pursuing Abner. When he didn't listen to Abner's warning to stop following him, Asahel was killed. Joab and Abishai pursued Abner and he asked whether the sword would devour forever resulting in bitterness. Joab blew the trumpet to stop the fighting. Twenty of David's servants and 360 of Abner's men (Israel) were killed (2 Sam. 2:18-32). Unreconciled relationships lead to bitterness and conflicts.

Answer the following questions to access whether you will experience reward, exaltation and reward:
1. Are you prioritizing your relationship with God?
2. Do you listen to God's instructions from His word?
3. Do you refuse selfishness in your pursuit of reward?
4. Do you have close friends?
5. Do you seek to reconcile relationships in the midst of conflict?
For any "no" answers, ask God to transform you so you can answer "yes".

Tests Whether God is Working in Your Heart (Insights in Law)

7/13/2011

Picture
God wants your heart and not your labor. Anything profitable comes from a pure heart motivated by the Holy Spirit. It's tempting to rely on our efforts instead of being empowered by God as the He leads you through His word. Israel leaving Egypt during the Passover tested their heart and belief in the blood of the lamb prefiguring Christ's death for you. The following paragraphs are tests whether God is working in your heart.

The Lord said to Moses to take a one-year-old unblemished male lamb in the first month from the tenth to fourteenth day and kill it at twilight. Put its blood on two doorposts and the lintel of the houses. Eat the flesh roasted with fire, unleavened bread and bitter herbs. Eat the Lord's Passover with loins girded, sandals on feet, staff in hand and in haste. The Lord would strike down every first-born in Egypt and execute judgment against all Egypt's gods. When God saw the blood (sign), He would pass over so no plague came to destroy them. It would be celebrated as a permanent ordinance (Ex. 12:1-14). Applying Christ's blood to your heart in prayer protects you from destruction.

Eat unleavened bread for seven days, but on first day remove leaven from houses. On first and seventh day, have holy assembly where no work is done except to prepare food. Observe Feast of Unleavened Bread to signify very day God brought them out of Egypt in first month, on 14th day until 21st day by eating only unleavened bread (Ex. 12:15-20). Walking with a pure heart protects you from sin's destruction.

Moses called for elders of Israel to slay the Passover lamb and apply its blood to lintel and two doorposts. The Lord would pass through to smite the Egyptians. When He saw blood on doorposts and lintel, He would not allow destroyer to smite them. Children would say it is a Passover sacrifice to the Lord who passed over the houses of sons of Israel when He smote Egyptians and spared their houses (Ex. 12:21-28).
Church and community leaders apply the blood of Christ in their prayer for others.

Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron to get out, bless him and worship the Lord after the first-born of Egypt died. The Egyptians urged to people leave the land in haste for they said, "We shall all be dead." The people took their dough before it was leavened and requested articles of silver and gold along with clothing from the Egyptians as Moses had commanded. The Lord gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians and they plundered them (Ex. 12:29-36). Ceasing from labor and trusting God's word shows that God is your provider.

About 600,000 m
en journeyed on foot from Rameses to Succoth.  A mixed multitude went up with them and baked the dough they had brought out of Egypt into cakes of unleavened bread. It had not become leavened since they were driven out of Egypt and could not delay. They prepared no provisions for themselves (Ex. 12:37-39). God loves to put you situations outside your comfort zone where you are not in control.

At the end of 430 years to the very day all the hosts of the Lord left Egypt. It was a night to be observed by all the sons of Israel throughout their generations (Ex. 12:40-42). Remember key events in your life when God delivered from slavery to sin.

No foreigner is to eat the Passover but only circumcised males. This law applied to the native and stranger who sojourned among them (Ex. 12:43-51). Men lead spiritually as God works mightily in their hearts.

Answer the following questions as a test whether God is working mightily in your heart:
1. Have you applied Christ's blood to your heart?
2. Do you walk with a pure heart?
3. Are you applying Christ' blood in your prayer for others?
4. Have you stopped laboring and trusting God's word for provision?
5. Are you in a situation beyond your control and outside your comfort zone?

6. Do you remember situations when God delivered you from slavery to sin?

My goal is to ignite the hearts of people by explaining God's word in the Law, Prophets, Psalms and New Testament consecutively, much like the experience of the two disciples on the road to Emmaus (Luke 24:32,44). I have been a missionary in Lincoln, NE, for 13 years with Christ For the City Int. and Sync with God.

Sync with God is a highly versatile web app that hosts on-demand, virtual small groups. Sync is designed to connect young seekers in the faith and scripturally-trained mentors, even globally. It offers a safe, engaging interface for Millennials/Gen. Z and is readily adaptable to technical advances well into the future.
