The reasons you can exalt God's word in worship are:
1. Response to martyrs' victory over the antichrist
2. Know God's judgment amplifies His grace in the heavenly temple
3. Know God's physical, ecological and celestial judgments often harden peoples' hearts
4. Clothe yourself with Jesus during natural disasters to prepare for Christ's second coming
5. Celebrate man's destruction of idolatrous, religious system
6. Celebrate God's destruction of materialistic and deceptive political and commercial system that killed believers
7. Praise God's reign and church's righteous acts as preparation for wedding feast of the Lamb
8. Praise God's word from Jesus' mouth will defeat Satan so God rules on earth

Exalt God's Word in Worship as Response to Martyrs' Victory
Seven angels completed God's wrath with seven last plagues. John saw what looked like a sea of glass mixed with fire that were those victorious over the beast, image and number of his name. They held harps and sang the song of Moses and the Lamb about the Lord God Almighty's and King of the ages' great and marvelous deeds along with His just and true ways. Everyone should fear and bring glory to Him for He alone was holy. All nations would come and worship for His righteous acts were revealed (Rev. 15:1-4). Exalt God's word in worshiping His works and ways as response to the martyrs' victory over the antichrist.

Know God's Judgment Amplifies His Glory in the Heavenly Temple
John saw the tabernacle of Testimony open in heaven. Seven angels with their seven plagues came out of the temple dressed in clean, shining linen and wore golden sashes around their chests. One of the four living creatures gave to the seven angels seven golden bowls filled with God's wrath. The temple was filled with smoke from His glory and power. No one could enter the temple until the seven plagues were completed (Rev. 15:5-8). Know God's judgment amplifies His glory in the heavenly temple.

Know God's Physical, Ecological and Celestial Judgments Often Harden Peoples' Hearts
The seven angels poured out seven bowls of God's wrath on the earth. The first angel sent ugly and painful sores on those with the mark of the beast who worshiped his image. The second angel turned the sea into blood so every living died in it. The third angel made the rivers and springs of water become blood because the Holy One judged truthfully and justly those who shed the blood of saints and prophets. The fourth angel gave the sun power to sear people by intense heat so they cursed God refusing to repent. The fifth angel plunged the beast's throne and kingdom into darkness so men gnawed their tongues in agony and cursed God refusing to repent what they did (Rev. 16:1-11). Know God's physical, ecological and celestial judgments often harden peoples' hearts.

Clothe Yourself with Jesus During Natural Disasters to Prepare for Christ's Second Coming
The sixth angel dried up the Euphrates River to prepare the way for the Eastern kings. John saw three evil spirits like frogs coming out of the dragon's, beast's and false prophet's mouth. They gathered kings together for the final battle of Armageddon. God told His people to stay awake and clothed so they would not be naked and shamefully exposed when He came back like a thief. The seventh angel sent flashes of lightning and a severe earthquake unlike any previously. Jerusalem split into three parts and other cities collapsed. God remembered Babylon the Great and filled her with His wrath. Every island and mountain were not found. Huge, 100 pound hailstones fell upon men so they cursed God (Rev. 16:12-21). Clothe yourself with Jesus during natural disasters to prepare for Christ's second coming.

Prepare for Idolatrous, Religious System to Be Destroyed by Men
One of the seven angels showed the punishment of the great prostitute that kings and inhabitants committed and intoxicated with her adulteries. John saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast covered with blasphemous names, seven heads and ten horns. She was filled with abominable things and adulteries with "Mystery, Babylon the Great" written on her forehead. She was drunk with the blood of the saints and those bearing testimony to Jesus. The beast she rode came out of the Abyss to go to his destruction. The seven heads were seven hills on which the woman sat. Five kings fell, one was and the other had not yet come. The beast was the eighth king. The ten horns had not received a kingdom but the kings and beast received authority. They gave their power and authority to the beast. All of them warred against the Lamb and His faithful followers. The Lord of lords and King of kings  overcame the kings and the beast. The woman was the great city that ruled over the kings of the earth (Rev. 17:1-18). Celebrate man's destruction of idolatrous, religious system.

Prepare for Materialistic Commercial System To Be Destroyed by God
Another angel said Babylon the Great fell and became the home for demons. All nations, kings and merchants drank her adulteries and grew rich from her excessive luxuries. A heavenly voice commanded God's people to come out and not share in her sins or plagues. Her sins piled up to heaven and He remembered her crimes. He gave her as much torture and grief as the glory and luxury she gave herself. She boasted of being a queen and never mourning. In one day her plagues of death, mourning and famine overtook her. Kings and merchants mourned when they saw the smoke of her burning ruining her power, riches and splendor so no one bought her cargoes. God judged her for the way she treated believers, apostles and prophets. Her merchants were the world's great men. Babylon led astray every nation by her magic spell. In her was found the blood of prophets and those killed on earth (Rev. 18:1-24). Celebrate God's destruction of materialistic and deceptive political and commercial system that killed believers.

Praise God's Reign and Church's Righteous Acts to Prepare for Wedding Feast of Lamb
A great multitude shouted that salvation, glory and power belonged to God since His judgments were true and just. He condemned the great prostitute whose adulteries corrupted the earth and avenged the blood of His servants. The 24 elders and four living creatures fell down and worshiped God seated on the throne crying, "Amen, Hallelujah." A voice from the throne said for His servants to praise God. A great multitude shouted that the Lord God Almighty reigned, the Lamb's wedding had come and His bride made herself ready with clean linen representing the saints' righteous acts. The angel told John how blessed were those invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb. The testimony of Jesus was the spirit of prophecy (Rev. 19:1-10). Praise God's reign and church's righteous acts to prepare for wedding feast of the Lamb.

Praise God's Word from Jesus' Mouth to Defeat Satan So God Rules on Earth
A white horse whose rider called Faithful and True judged and made war. His eyes were like blazing fire, head with many crowns and a name written that only He knew. His robe was dipped in blood and His name was the Word of God. Heaven's armies dressed in white linen followed Him riding on white horses. A sharp sword came out of His mouth to strike down the nations and rule them with an iron scepter. On His robe was written, "King of kings and Lord of lords." An angel said to gather for the great supper of God to eat the flesh of kings, mighty men and all people. The beast and earthly kings made war against the rider on the horse and His army, but they captured the beast and false prophet. They were thrown alive in the fiery lake of burning sulfur and killed the rest with the sword that came out of the rider's mouth on the horse (Rev. 19:11-21). Praise God's word from Jesus' mouth to defeat satan so God rules on earth.

Exalt God's word in worship because of the martyrs' victory over the antichrist, which used His word from Jesus' mouth to defeat Satan so God rules on earth.

Praise God's reign and church's righteous acts as preparation for wedding feast of Lamb knowing His judgment amplifies His grace in the heavenly temple.

Celebrate God's destruction of idolatrous, materialistic and deceptive religious, political and commercial system by clothing yourself with Jesus in preparation for His second coming.

How to Be Inspired to Preach the Gospel of Kingdom (Insights in NT)

How are you inspired to preach the gospel of the kingdom? Rev. 6-8 explains the need to prepare for end time events knowing Satan's plan, recognize God's sovereignty in death and martyr of believers, expect cosmic disruption, embrace Christ as shepherd, let devastating events lead you to fervent prayer and recognize God's judgment in disrupting comfort.

Prepare for End Time Events Knowing Satan's Plan
When John watched the Lamb open the first of seven seals, he saw a white horse whose rider held a bow, given a crown and rode out as a conqueror bent on conquest. When the Lamb opened the second seal, a fiery red horse came out whose rider was given power and a large sword to take peace from the earth and make men kill others. When the Lamb opened the third seal, a black horse came out whose rider held a pair of scales in his hand. John heard a voice from four living creatures saying a quart of wheat and three quarts of barley for a day's wages without damaging the oil and wine (Rev. 6:1-6). Prepare for end time events knowing Satan inspires the antichrist to unleash devastating wars, famine and calamities on earth.

Recognize God's Sovereignty in Death and Martyr of Believers
When the Lamb opened the fourth seal, a pale horse had a rider named Death and Hades followed close behind. They were given power over 25 percent of the earth to kill by sword, famine, plague and wild beasts. After opening the fifth seal, John saw under the altar the souls of those slain because of the word of God and their testimony. They asked in a loud voice how long until the Sovereign Lord would judge and avenge their blood. Each was given a white robe and told to wait a little longer until their fellow servants and brothers were killed (Rev. 6:7-11). Recognize God's sovereignty in the death and martyr of believers during the great tribulation because of God's word and their testimony.

Expect Cosmic Disruption in Heaven and Earth
After opening the sixth seal, a great earthquake occurred, the sun turned black, moon turned blood red and the stars fell to the earth. The sky receded like a scroll and every mountain and island were removed from its place. Everyone, including the powerful elite, hid in caves and mountains. They called on them to fall and hide them from the one who sat on the throne and from the great wrath of the Lamb (Rev. 6:12-17). Expect cosmic disruption in heaven and on earth as sign of God's wrath.

Inspire Preaching of the Gospel of the Kingdom Before the End
An angel with God's seal told the four angels not to harm the land, sea or trees until they sealed 144,000 Israelites. A great multitude from every nation, tribe, people and language stood before the throne in front of the Lamb. They wore white robes and held palm branches crying out that salvation belonged to God who sat on the throne and to the Lamb (Rev. 7:1-10; Matt. 24:14). Inspire the preaching of the gospel of the kingdom in the whole world before the end comes.

Embrace Christ as Shepherd to Lead You to Springs of Living Water
The angels fell down before the throne and worshiped God saying praise, glory, wisdom, thanks, honor, power and strength to Him forever. Those in white robes came out of the great tribulation. They washed their robes, made them white in the blood of the Lamb and served Him day and night in His temple before God's throne. He who sat on the throne spread His tent so they never hungered, thirsted and experienced scorching heat. The Lamb at the center of the throne was their shepherd and led them to springs of living water. God wiped every tear from their eyes (Rev. 7:11-17). Embrace Christ as shepherd to lead you to springs of living water including wisdom, power and strength.

Let Devastating Events Lead You to Fervent Prayer
When the Lamb opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about 30 minutes. An angel with a golden censer offered much incense with prayers of all believers on the golden altar before the throne. The incense smoke and believers' prayers went up before God. The angel filled the censer with fire from the altar and hurled it on the earth (Rev. 8:1-5). Let devastating events lead you to fervent prayer in hastening Jesus' return.

Recognize God's Judgment in Disrupting Comfort
The first angel sounded his trumpet so hail and fire mixed with blood were hurled upon the earth. A third of the earth and trees were burned up, including the green grass. The second angel sounded his trumpet and something like a huge mountain was thrown into the sea. A third of the sea turned into blood, a third of the living creatures in the sea died and a third of the ships were destroyed. The third angel sounded his trumpet and a great star fell from the sky so a third of the rivers and springs of water turned bitter with many people dying. The fourth angel sounded his trumpet and a third of the sun, moon, stars, day and night turned dark. An eagle said woe to the inhabitants of the earth because of the trumpet blasts by the other three angels (Rev. 8:6-13). Recognize God's judgment in disrupting the ordinary means of comfort and created order.

Inspire yourself and others to preach the gospel of the kingdom by preparing for end time events knowing Satan's plan and God's judgment to disrupt comfort, allow God's sovereignty in the death and martyr of believers to lead you to fervent prayer and let future cosmic disruption cause you to embrace Christ as shepherd.

How to Prepare for Kingdom Ministry (Insights in Psalms)

To prepare for kingdom work, fight bravely knowing God defeats spiritual enemies. Trust in His resources, build people up through His word, organize kingdom work in holiness and prayer, share ministry among various generations, let God choose workers without distinction between secular and sacred work, listen to God for practical details in ministry, and receive wealth and power from Him.

Fight Bravely Knowing God Defeats Spiritual Enemies

David expressed sympathy to Hanun because his father showed kindness to  him. The Ammonites told Hanun that David's intentions was to spy and overthrow the land. Hanun humiliated  David's men by shaving and cutting off their garments in the middle at the buttocks.  The Ammonites hired 32,000 chariots and charioteers while Joab deployed his best troops in Israel against Arameans. Troops helped one another if Arameans or Ammonites became too strong for one group. Joab said to be strong and fight bravely because the Lord would do what was right in His sight. The Arameans fled before Joab and David killed 7,000 charioteers and 40,000 foot soldiers. They made peace and were subject to David. The Arameans were not willing to help the Ammonites anymore. Joab took much plunder from the cities of the Ammonites, placed their king's crown on David's head and consigned their people to slave labor. They subjected the Philistines by killing Goliath's brother and other large descendants of Rapha (1 Chron. 19:1-20:8). Fight bravely knowing God does right and defeats spiritual enemies.

Trust in God's Resources and Not Your Own
Satan rose up against Israel and incited David to take a census. Joab warned David that counting the Israelites would bring guilt on Israel. He counted 1.1 million fighting men in Israel and 470,000 in Judah. Because David's command was repulsive to Levi, Benjamin and God, He punished Israel. Gad gave David three options because of his sin: three years of famine, three months of enemies overtaking them or three days of plague. David asked to fall into God's merciful hands and not in men's. The Lord sent a plague that killed 70,000 men of Israel. David saw an angel of the Lord standing between heaven and earth with a drawn sword extended over Jerusalem. David obeyed God's word to build an altar to Him on the threshing floor of Araunah. He paid the full price to sacrifice a burnt offering that cost something (1 Chron. 21:1-30). Trust in God's resources and not your own since He fights for you.

Build People Up Through His Word
David appointed aliens living in Israel as stonecutters to prepare dressed stone for building the house of God. He provided iron, bronze and cedar logs to make nails for the doors and fittings. David prepared extensively to build the magnificent house of fame and splendor in the sight of the nations. Shedding blood in wars prevented David from building the house. He charged Solomon to build it according to God's word. Solomon was a man of peace with rest from all his enemies. David told him the Lord would be with him and have success if he kept the law. He asked God to give Solomon discretion and understanding, be strong and courageous without fear or discouragement when He put him in command over Israel. David took great pains to provide 100,000 talents of gold, 1 million talents of silver, large amount  of bronze and iron, wood and stone. He provided many workmen including stonecutters, masons, carpenters and craftsmen skilled in gold, silver, bronze and iron. David ordered all the Israelite leaders help Solomon and devote their heart and soul to seeking God (1 Chron. 22:1-19). Build people up through His word with a servant heart.

Organize Kingdom Work in Holiness and Prayer
David made 24,000 Levites supervise the work of the temple, 6,000 as officials and judges, 4,000 as gatekeepers and 4,000 to praise the Lord with musical instruments. He divided the Levites into groups corresponding to the sons of Levi: Gershonites, Kohathites and Merarites. The Levites helped Aaron's descendants in the temple service and purification of sacred things. They thanked and praised God every morning, evening and whenever burnt offerings were presented during the feasts. They carried out their responsibilities in the proper number and way prescribed for the Tent of Meeting and Holy Place (1 Chron. 23:1-32). Organize kingdom work so people pursue holiness, intercede in prayer, minister to God in praise and thanksgiving, and bless others.

Share Ministry Among Various Generations
David separated Aaron's sons into divisions for their appointed order of ministering. A larger number of leaders were found among Eleazar's descendants than Ithamar's. David and his army commanders set apart some of Asaph's sons and two others for the ministry of prophesying accompanied by harps, lyres and cymbals. Asaph's sons prophesied under the king's supervision. Jeduthun's sons prophesied using the harp in thanking and praising God. Heman's sons were given God's promises to exalt Him. All these men were under their father's supervision with cymbals, lyres and harps for the music ministry at the house of God. They were trained and skilled in music for the Lord (1 Chron. 24:1-25:31). Share ministry among various generations in Spirit-inspired prophesy, praise and music ministry.

Let God Choose Workers Without Distinction Between Secular and Sacred Work
These divisions of the gatekeepers through their chief men had duties for ministering in the temple of God. Shemaiah's sons were leaders in their father's family because they were very capable men with the strength to do the work. Six Levites a day on the east, four a day on the north and south, two at a time at the storehouse. Their fellow Levites were in charge of treasuries of the house of God (1 Chron. 26:1-32). Let God choose workers without distinction between secular or sacred work.

Listen to God for Practical Details in Ministry
Each army division of 24,000 served one month each year. Benaiah was a mighty man among the Thirty and over the Thirty. Each of the 12 tribes had an officer over it. A list was made of officials in charge of David's property. He charged Solomon to serve God with wholehearted devotion and a willing mind for He searched every heart and understood every motive behind the thoughts. David gave Solomon plans of all the Spirit put in his mind for the construction of the temple, instructions for the divisions of the priests and Levites, work of serving in the temple, and articles to be used for service. All this was in writing because God's hand was upon David and gave him understanding in all the details of the plan. Solomon was to be strong, courageous and without fear or discouragement. The divisions of the priests and Levites along with skilled craftsmen were ready for work on the temple (1 Chron. 27:1-28:21). Listen to God for practical details in ministry with wholehearted devotion, willing mind and pure motives.

Receive Wealth and Power from Great God
People rejoiced at the willing response of their leaders who gave freely and wholeheartedly. David praised the greatness, power, glory and majesty of God. Jesus exalted Himself as head over God's kingdom and ruler over all things. Wealth, honor, strength, power and everything came from Him. They gave only what came from God's hand. The abundance for building the temple came and belonged to Him. David gave it willingly with honest intent. The next day they made sacrifices and presented burnt and drink offerings to Him. The Lord highly exalted Solomon and bestowed royal splendor while Israel obeyed and submitted to him. David died having enjoyed long life, wealth and honor (1 Chron. 29:1-30). Receive wealth and power from the great and majestic God who rules everything.

To prepare for kingdom work, consider the following bullets:
  • Fight bravely knowing God defeats spiritual enemies
  • Trust in His resources
  • Build people up through His word
  • Organize kingdom work in holiness and prayer
  • Share ministry among various generations
  • Let God choose workers without distinction between secular and sacred work

Preparation to Receive God's Word (Insights in Prophets)

We wonder why people don't obey God's word after hearing it. Certain things must be in place for people to be doers of the word. For disciples to receive God's word, they must consider His holiness, experience forgiveness of sin, trust God's protection and presence and reject faith in humankind and their strategies.

Consider God's Holiness
In the year King Uzziah died, Isaiah saw the Lord sitting on a high and exalted throne with the train of his rope filling the temple. Above Him were seraphs with six wings each calling to one another, "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of His glory." The doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke. Isaiah cried out that he was ruined with unclean lips and living among a people of unclean lips but his eyes saw the King, the Lord Almighty (Is. 6:1-5). Consider God's holiness to reveal personal and community sin.

Experience Forgiveness of Sin
A seraphim flew with a burning coal taken from the altar and touched Isaiah's mouth. He said his iniquity was taken away and sin forgiven. The Lord said, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" Isaiah said, "Here am I. Send me!" He said to go and tell this people that they were always hearing but never understanding and always seeing but never perceiving. Their hearts were insensitive, ears dull and eyes dim so they could not hear, understand, return to the Lord and be healed. The Lord said Isaiah would do this until cities lie ruined without people, houses deserted, fields ravaged and land completely forsaken. A tenth as the holy seed would remain in the land as a remnant like a stump in the land (Is. 6:6-13). Experience forgiveness of sin and hear God's call as an ambassador of reconciliation.

Trust God's Protection
Rezin, king of Aram and Pekah, king of Israel, battled against Ahaz, king of Judah, without conquering them. Israel's king and peoples' hearts shook like trees in the wind. Isaiah and his son told Ahaz to be calm, not fear or be fainthearted because of the fierce anger of these two kings who planned evil against them. God said their terror would not make a breach in its walls. Within 65 years Ephraim would be no longer be a people because of their unbelief (Is. 7:1-9). Trust God's protection, stay calm and do not fear when people seek evil.

Live in God's Presence
The Lord told Ahaz to ask for a sign but he refused not wanting to test God's patience. The Lord gave the sign of a virgin who would bear a son whose name would be called Immanuel. He would eat curds and honey when he was old enough to refuse evil and choose good. The land of the two kings they dreaded would be laid waste in the early childhood of the boy. The Lord would bring the king of Assyria causing great natural and economic trials to Judah (Is. 7:10-25). Live in God's presence instead of testing His patience by exercising faith in humankind.

Reject Faith in Humankind
The Lord said to write ordinary letters on a large tablet, "Swift is the booty, speedy is the prey," and called Uriah the priest and Zechariah as reliable witnesses. He went to a prophetess and she gave birth to a son named, "Swift is the booty, speedy is the prey." The wealth of Damascus and spoil of Samaria would be carried away by the king of Assyria. These people rejected the gently flowing waters of Shiloah and rejoiced in Rezin and Pekah. As a result,  Judah experienced devastation by the king of Assyria (Is. 8:1-8). Reject faith in humankind to prevent your land from being devastated.

Reject Human Strategies
All nations that prepared for battle would be shattered. They devised their strategy but it was thwarted "for God is with us." God warned them with mighty power not to follow the way of this people and say, 'It is a conspiracy,' what the people called a conspiracy. They were not to fear what they feared or be in dread of it, but regard God as holy. He was  their fear and dread. He would become a sanctuary for both houses of Israel as a stone that caused men to stumble and a trap and snare for the people of Jerusalem (Is. 8:9-15). Reject human strategies by regarding God's holiness and presence.

To be in position to receive the Word, these prior things--consider God's holiness, experience forgiveness of sin, trust God's protection and presence, and reject faith in humankind and their strategies--must be in place.

Receive God's Word
Bind up the testimony and seal the law among His disciples. Isaiah would wait and trust in the Lord who hid his face from the house of Jacob. He and the children God gave him were signs and wonders in Israel from the Lord Almighty. They consulted the Lord and not mediums and spiritists men suggested. If they did not speak according to the law and testimony, they had no dawn but were distressed, hungry and their anger caused them to curse their king and God. They would see only distress and fearful gloom and be thrust into utter darkness looking toward the earth (Is. 9:16-22). Disciples receive God's word so they can consult and speak of the Lord as signs and wonders in the land.

Preparation Steps in Receiving God's Word:
1. Consider God's holiness to reveal personal and community sin.

2. Experience forgiveness of sin and hear God's call as an ambassador of reconciliation.
3. Trust God's protection, stay calm and do not fear when people seek evil.
4. Live in God's presence instead of testing His patience by exercising faith in humankind.
5. Reject faith in humankind to prevent your land from being devastated.
6. Reject human strategies by regarding God's holiness and presence.

To be in position to receive the Word, these prior things--consider God's holiness, experience forgiveness of sin, trust God's protection and presence, and reject faith in humankind and their strategies--must be in place first.

7. Disciples receive God's word so they can consult and speak of the Lord as signs and wonders in the land.

How God Creates Your Destiny (Insights in Law)

4/29/2011

Picture
Many events in your life don't make sense. Many of the routines you face seem useless. God doesn't waste anythings. Each experience He uses to craft your destiny so your life has meaning and purpose. Every detail--parents God selects for you, place where you are born, those seemingly random events and job you have taken--are knitted together in a tapestry of destiny that serves others.
A man from the house of Levi married a daughter of Levi and hid his son in the Nile. Pharaoh’s daughter bathed in the Nile and when she saw a basket, she had her maid bring it to her (Ex. 2:1-5). God uses humble beginnings to create your destiny.

The mother of the baby in the basket nursed him and received wages from Pharaoh’s daughter. The child grew and the baby's mother brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter to become her son. She named him Moses, “because I drew him out of the water” (Ex. 2:6-10). God sovereignly orchestrates circumstances to create your destiny.

Moses grew up an Egyptian, but he looked on his Hebrew brothers’ hard labor and saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew. Moses killed the Egyptian when no one was looking and hid him in the sand. When Moses saw two Hebrews fighting against each other, he said to the offender, “Why are you striking your companion?” He said, “Who made you a prince or judge over us? Are you intending to kill me, as you killed the Egyptian?” Moses was afraid and when Pharaoh heard of this matter, he tried to kill Moses. Moses fled from Pharaoh and dwelled in Midian and sat down by a well (Ex. 2:11-15). God redeems all your experiences to create your destiny.

A priest of Midian had seven daughters and they came to draw water for their father’s flock. He delivered them from the shepherds and watered their flock. Their father, Reuel, encouraged them to invite Moses for a meal.  Reuel gave his daughter, Zipporah, to Moses. She gave birth to Gershom, for he said, "I have been a sojourner in a foreign land" (Ex. 2:16-22). God protects your life in the midst of hardship to create your destiny.

The Egyptian king died and Israel sighed because of her bondage. Their cry for help rose up to God who heard their groaning and remembered His covenant with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. God saw the sons of Israel and took notice with intimate knowledge of them (Ex. 2:23-25). God matches your life preparation with peoples’ needs to create your destiny.

Journal how God has used the events of your life to mold your destiny. Ask Him for wisdom concerning how He is using your present circumstances to create your destiny.

How To Make a Difference In Your City (Insights in Law)

1/31/2011

Picture
A person can't predict how God might use them. Tough times may seem to disqualify you from effective service. It's those frustrating and seemly "wasted" circumstances that God redeems for ministry in your city. Joseph thought his life was over while serving prison time for a crime he didn't commit. Two years later, he unexpectedly gets a call from Pharaoh or the president of Egypt. What unexpected opportunity is God preparing for you that taps into your experiences, passion and gifts in serving your city? Learning the principles of preparation, prerequisites and product of successful city ministry will equip you in making a difference.

Preparation for Successful City Ministry

After two years, Pharaoh dreamt that seven ugly cows ate seven fat cows and seven thin ears were swallowed up by seven plump ears. No one, including all the Egyptian magicians and wise men, could interpret the dream, which troubled him (Gen. 41:1-8). Sense of need among key leaders opens doors and opportunities for city ministry.

The chief cupbearer remembered Joseph and told Pharaoh that he interpreted dreams accurately. The cupbearer was restored to office and baker hanged as Joseph predicted (Gen. 41:9-13). God sovereignly uses tough experiences and your gifting to serve Him strategically in the city.

When Pharaoh told Joseph that he heard about his ability to interpret dreams, the latter answered, “It is not in me; God will give Pharaoh a favorable answer." Pharaoh shared his dream with Joseph and said no one could explain it to him (Gen. 41:14-24). Listen to God and do what He says because ministry is not about you.

Prerequisites for Successful City Ministry

Joseph told Pharaoh that his two dreams revealed identical messages in emphasizing what God was about to do: seven years of great abundance in Egypt followed by seven years of famine. Repeating the dream twice meant God determined to bring about the events quickly. Joseph encouraged Pharaoh to look for a wise and discerning man to set over Egypt who could appoint overseers to exact a fifth of the land's produce during the seven abundant years to hold in reserve for the seven lean years, which would sustain people during famine  (Gen. 41:25-36). God gives insights and strategies to influence leaders so they promote the welfare of the city's people.

The proposal seemed good to Pharaoh and he determined Joseph was the wise and discerning man to become secretary of agriculture or second in command in all of Egypt. Joseph was given the daughter of Potiphera priest of On, as his wife (Gen. 41:37-45). Sharing truths without drawing attention to yourself has the greatest potential to be adopted by those in authority.

The food Joseph gathered during the seven years of plenty that was stored in every city came from the surrounding fields in great abundance until he stopped measuring it (Gen. 41:46-49). Diligent preparation and executing strategy to serve local needs ensure success.

Before the year of famine, two sons were born to Joseph: Manasseh (God has made me forget all my trouble and all my father’s household) and Ephraim (God has made me fruitful in land of my affliction) (Gen. 41:50-52). God prioritizes inner healing and spiritual character over ministry competency.

Product of Successful City Ministry
Seven years of severe famine came after seven plentiful years in all the lands, but in Egypt there was bread, which Joseph sold to the Egyptians and all the earth (Gen. 41:53-57). Obeying God in performing your ministry leads to worldwide impact in solving society's real problems.

Answer these questions:
1. What tough experiences have you gone through (character and passion development)?
2. If you could do anything in your life and not have to worry about money, what would it be (passion)?
3. What are your primary gifts?
4. Do you notice any alignment between the answers to the above three questions?
5. Prayerfully consider the preparation, prerequisites and product of successful city ministry listed above along with timing to determine when, where and how God might be leading in serving Him in your city.

When Life Makes No Sense (Insights in Law)

1/24/2011

Picture
When life makes no sense, I have a tendency to question God. When people went behind my back in a hostile take over of my ministry, I wondered what was going on. Could God really use this in my life? Yes! Tests like these develop patience and integrity as preparation for future usefulness. Trusting God's sovereignty over my human understanding reaps the reward of character development. God arranged circumstances in Joseph's life where he learned these lessons.

The cupbearer and baker offended the king of Egypt and Joseph was charged to care for them in prison. They both had dreams the same night. Seeing their dejection, Joseph asked why their faces were so sad. They answered that no one was there to interpret their dream.  Joseph requested they tell their dreams to them since interpretations belong to God (Gen. 40:1-8). God reveals the meaning of dreams and Scripture, which encourages you to submit to His leadership.

The cupbearer told his dream about squeezing grapes into Pharaoh's cup before putting the cup in Pharaoh's hand. Joseph interpreted the dream to mean that in three days Pharaoh would restore him as cupbearer. He asked the cupbearer to remember him and put in a good word to Pharaoh so Joseph could leave prison. He told the cupbearer that he was kidnapped from the land of the Hebrews and done nothing to deserve the "dungeon" (Gen. 40:9-15). Submitting to unfair and confusing circumstances allow God to transform your character into His image as preparation for future usefulness.

When the chief baker saw the favorable interpretation from Joseph, he explained his dream about three baskets of white bread on his head with the top one holding baked food for Pharaoh as birds ate from it. Joseph interpreted the dream to mean that in three days he would be hanged and birds would eat his flesh (Gen. 40:16-19). God provides integrity tests as preparation for you to make tough decisions when it's tempting to be men pleasers.

On the third day, Pharaoh restored the cupbearer to his office and hanged the baker just as Joseph had interpreted to them. The cupbearer did not remember Joseph, but forgot him (Gen. 40:20-23). Since God sovereignly works His will through authorities without your help, be patient in tough situations.

Answer these five questions:
1. What troubling or confusing circumstance are you experiencing right now?
2. How do you feel about it?
3. What is God teaching you?
4. Are you taking to heart these lessons?
5. How will this prepare you for future usefulness?

Are You Ready for Christ's Second Coming? (Insights in NT)

Reading the newspaper headlines about natural disasters, terrorist attacks and relational unrest throughout the world have tendency to create fear. Remember these are birth pangs for Christ's Second Coming. Instead of being anxious, prepare yourself spiritually by putting your hope in Christ, not in things of this world. Christ comforts and encourages, while the world overwhelms and discourages. Since the disciples faced an uncertain future as persecution increased around Christ and themselves, He gave them the big picture surrounding His Second Coming.

As Jesus was going out of the temple, He told the disciples that every stone would be torn down from it. They asked when these things would take place and the sign for their fulfillment (Mark 13:1-4).

Jesus said the beginning of birth pangs would see many deceivers coming in His name, hear of wars and rumors of war, nations and kingdoms rising against each other and earthquakes & famines occurring in various places (Mark 13:5-8). Intense spiritual deception, natural disasters and political chaos are signals to prepare for Christ's Second Coming.

He exhorted the disciples to be on guard since they will be hated and many put to death on account of Christ. The Holy Spirit will tell them what to say as a testimony, especially when suffering persecution from religious leaders, family members and civil leaders since the gospel must first be preached to all nations (Mark 13:9-13). Severe persecution accelerates the spread of the gospel into all nations.

When you see the Abomination of Desolation standing where it should not be, flee to the mountains for great tribulation is coming. False Christs and prophets will show signs and wonders to even lead believers astray (Mark 13:14-23). Trusting in Christ and His provision protects you from evil political and spiritual authorities.

After the tribulation and immediately before Christ comes back in the clouds with great glory, the sun and moon will be darkened, stars will fall from heaven and powers in the heaven will be shakened. At His coming, the angels will gather believers together from the earth. When you see these things occurring, know Christ is coming soon. No one knows the exact time except God the Father. Be on the alert for His sudden appearing since His words won't pass away (Mark 13:24-37). Be alert for natural signs and spiritually prepared in readiness for Christ's Second Coming.

Rate yourself on a scale (1 being lowest and 10 highest) concerning your alertness (opposite of apathy) on the following principles that were underlined above:

1. Intense spiritual deception, natural disasters and political chaos are signals to prepare for Christ's Second Coming.
2. Severe persecution accelerates the spread of the gospel into all nations.
3. Trusting in Christ and His provision protects you from evil political and spiritual authorities.
4. Be alert for natural signs and spiritually prepared in readiness for Christ's Second Coming (blog on Mark 12 explains how to be spiritually prepared)

What View of Prophecy is Right? Wrong Question (insights in NT)

10/20/2010

Picture
While in college, we spent endless hours debating various prophetic schemes trying to figure out from Scripture the right one. Was it amillennial or one of the pre-millennial views: pre-tribulational, mid-tribulational or post-tribulational? It may be none of the above. Many books have been written predicting the time of Christ's return and all are wrong. A popular view was Christ's return within one generation (40 years) of the birth of Israel in 1948. Christ did not come back in 1988. God wants us to prepare, not predict His return.
God rewards those with attitudes of alertness, attentiveness, perseverance and consistency because they prepare themselves for Christ's Second Coming (Matt. 24:45-51).

Unless we are filled with the Holy Spirit, our actions won't accomplish anything. Prepare yourselves spiritually since no one can transfer their relationship with God to others (Matt. 25:1-13). Not only does one need a proper attitude and spiritual grounding, each person requires proper actions to prepare for Christ's Second Coming.

Fully invest your time, talents and treasure in God's Kingdom, especially with the poor (Matt. 25:14-27).  Show compassion to the hungry, the thirsty, the stranger, the unclothed, the sick and the prisoner as if you were ministering to Christ since each one is His brother (Matt. 25:35-36, 40, 45-46).

Scripture has frequent exhortations to care for the poor (Prov. 21:13; 22:9,22-23). Isaiah was upset with peoples’ worship because they weren’t giving priority to seeking justice, encouraging the oppressed, defending the cause of the fatherless and pleading the case of the widow (Is. 1:11-17).

If our devotional exercises, prayer, Bible study, fellowship and evangelism become ends in themselves without serving others, what is the consequence? Read what Isaiah has to say in Is. 58:3,6-7.

How will you prepare yourself spiritually in your relationship with God?

What talents, skills and resources will you invest in God's Kingdom?

To what sphere of service will you devote your time, talents and treasure?

Is there an existing agency doing the work you are interested in? Do you have friends within your church, workplace or neighborhood with similar passions who could help you collaborate with existing community services to meet a need in your community?

Are You Ready? (insights in New Testament)

I remember the sinking feeling taking tests in schools when I hadn't studied sufficiently. Not being prepared gets us in trouble. Most experts agree the federal government wasn’t prepared to help the multitudes of hungry, thirsty and desperate victims of Hurricane Katrina. It scrimped on storm spending and shifted its attention from dealing with natural disasters to fighting terrorism. Many residents never received promised help. The FEMA Director had no disaster experience before being appointed to his job. Federal flood control spending was also decreased before Katrina. In 2004, the Army Corps of Engineers stopped major work on the now-breached levee system that had protected New Orleans from flooding. Will we be prepared for an even greater event, the Second Coming of Christ?

A time of national crises throughout the world including war, natural disasters and famine will occur during the time between Christ’s death and His Second Coming (Matt. 24:4-8)[i].

Perseverance will be at a premium because of persecution, apostasy, shallow faith, false prophets and coldness in one’s faith (Matt. 24:9-13).

The Gospel of the Kingdom will be widely preached throughout the world (Matt. 24:14).

Christ answered the disciples’ first question about signs for the temple’s destruction, which occurred in AD 70 (Matt. 24:15-20)[ii].

The time of more intense tribulation will occur immediately prior to Christ’s Second Coming (Matt. 24:21-28). Rev. 7:14 indicates a period of intensified horrors before the Second Coming [iii].

Christ will return after this ‘tribulation’ period as King of Kings and Lord of Lords (Matt. 24:30-31; Rev. 19:11-16)[iv].

Why are you unprepared for Christ’s coming?
It could be apathy, busyness, distraction, worldliness or deception.

Confess why you are unprepared for Christ's Second Coming. Meditate on 2 Tim. 4:8 that gives a reward for those who love Christ's coming.
