Know Jesus' Death Causes Creation to be Subject to You (Insights in NT)

"We must know the power of the Blood if we are to know the power of God. Our knowing experimentally the power of the Word, the power of the Holy Spirit, and the power of prayer is dependant upon our knowing the power of the Blood of Christ" (R. A. Torrey)

What enables Jesus' death on the cross to cause all of creation to be subject to you? Jesus is heir of all things, Creator, radiance of God's glory, sustainer, purifier of sin, sits on God's righteous throne, signs and miracles, defeated Satan's power of death, apostle, high priest and builder of God's house.

Look to the Son as Heir of All Things
God spoke to forefathers through the prophets but in the last days He spoke by His Son. God appointed Him heir of all things and through the Son made the universe. The Son was the radiance of God's glory, exact representation of His being and sustained all things by His powerful word. After providing purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven (Heb. 1:1-3). Look to the Son as heir of all things, Creator, radiance of God's glory, sustainer and purifier of sin.

Consider Jesus Who Sits on God's Righteous Throne
Superior to angels, God said Jesus was His Son and God His Father. When God brought His first-born into the world, He said angels should worship the Son and made them His servants flames of fire. Concerning the Son, God's throne lasted forever and righteousness as the scepter of His kingdom. He loved righteousness and hated wickedness and anointed the Son with the oil of joy. God laid the foundations of the earth and the heavens was His work. He remained the same forever but creation perished and wore out like a robe. God said the Son sat at His right hand until He made His enemies a footstool for His feet. Angels were ministering spirits sent to serve those who inherited salvation (Heb. 1:4-14). Consider Jesus who sits on God's righteous throne to defeat His enemies using angels to serve believers.

Do Not Drift Away From the Great Salvation
Paying attention to what they heard prevented drifting away from the binding message spoken by angels. If disobedience received punishment, no one escaped by ignoring a great salvation announced by the Lord and confirmed by those who heard Him. God testified to it by signs, wonders, various miracles and gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to His will (Heb. 2:1-4). Do not drift away from the great salvation announced by Jesus and confirmed by signs, miracles and gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Know Jesus' Death Causes Creation to Be Subject to You
The Psalmist testified that God remembered and cared for man by making him a little lower than the angels. He crowned man with glory and honor so everything was subject to him. Because this had not occurred yet, God allowed Jesus to suffer and taste death for everyone. In bringing many sons to glory, God the Creator made the author of salvation perfect through suffering. Both men made holy and Jesus were of the same family. Jesus unashamedly called them brothers and children of God by singing and praising His name to them (Heb. 2:5-13). Know that Jesus' death causes all creation to be subject to you.

Trust Jesus' Death for Freedom From Fear and Satan's Power
Jesus shared in humanity by His death that destroyed Satan who held the power of death and freed those enslaved to the fear of death. Because Jesus helped Abraham's descendants, He was made like His brothers in every way as a merciful and faithful high priest to make atonement for sin. Jesus suffered during temptation so He was able to help those who were tempted (Heb. 2:14-18). Trust Jesus' death on the cross for freedom from fear and Satan's power.

Think About Jesus as Your Apostle and High Priest
Those who shared in the heavenly calling fixed their thoughts on Jesus, the apostle and high priest. As the builder of God's house, He was worthy of greater honor than Moses. God was the builder of everything, but Moses was faithful as a servant in His house. Christ was faithful as a son over God's house consisting of believers who boasted in courage and hope (Heb. 3:1-6). Think about Jesus as your apostle and high priest as you boast in courage and hope.

Believe Confidently in a Living God
The Holy Spirit told those who heard His voice not to harden their hearts like Israel's 40  years of testing in the desert. Their hearts went astray so they did not enter God's rest. Instead of a sinful, unbelieving heart that turned away from the living God, encourage one another daily so no one would be hardened by sin's deceitfulness. Those who stayed confident and did not harden their heart shared in Christ. Moses led Israel out of Egypt and their sin and disobedience because of unbelief prevented them from entering into God's rest (Heb. 3:7-19). Believe confidently in a living God to enter God's rest.

Which of the following items encourage you the most that cause creation to be subject to you through Jesus' death on the cross:
1. Jesus is heir of all things
2. Jesus as Creator
3. Jesus as radiance of God's glory
4. Jesus as sustainer
5. Jesus as purifier of sin
6. Jesus sits on God's righteous throne
7. Jesus showing signs and miracles
8. Jesus defeated Satan's power of death
9. Jesus as apostle
10. Jesus as high priest
11. Jesus as builder of God's house

Why God Answers Prayer (Insights in Psalms)

Many of us think God is reluctant to answer prayer. We pray and God appears to ignore us. For many years, my wife and I asked God for a baby. We spent time and money looking at fertility issues. In God's time, Karen conceived and Steve was born. Is there a basis for believing that God is committed to answering our prayers? Because God created you and accomplished salvation on your behalf, He will answer your prayers.

God Accomplished Salvation
The Lord does wonderful things in accomplishing salvation and showing faithfulness to His gracious promises. The world sees His salvation as His people remember God's love and faithfulness (Ps. 98:1-3). God accomplishes salvation and is faithful to His promises.

The earth shouts joyfully to the Lord. Use instruments to sing praises to the King (Ps. 98:4-6). God is King over the earth.

All creation sings for joy before the Lord. He judges the world with righteousness and equity (Ps. 98:7-9). God is fair in His judgments.

God Answered Prayer
The Lord reigns and is enthroned above the cherubim. Because He is exalted and holy above all peoples, let them praise His great and awesome name. His justice and righteousness should lead to worship (Ps. 99:1-5). God reigns and His name is holy, great and awesome.

The Lord answered the prayers of Moses, Aaron and Samuel. He spoke to them in the pillar of cloud as they kept His testimonies. God forgives and also avenges evil deeds. Exalt and worship our holy God (Ps. 99:6-9). God answers prayer, forgives and avenges evil deeds.

God Created Humankind
Serve the Lord with gladness and come before Him with joyful singing. The people He made are the sheep of His pasture (Ps. 100:1-3). God created humankind.

Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise. Bless God's name for He is good. His lovingkindness and faithfulness are eternal (Ps. 100:4-5). God is good and His lovingkindness and faithfulness are eternal.

Praise God and enter into His presence with thanksgiving and confidence because He created you, accomplished salvation and will answer your prayers.

Opposite of Modern-Day Christianity (Insights in NT)

Picture
Most Christians are indistinguishable from unbelievers. Their compromising lifestyles conform to the world. Instead of being on fire for God, they are lukewarm. Passiveness instead of passion becomes their calling card. They refuse to believe if it's risky. Therefore, they adopt the path of least resistance. They coexist with sin instead of confessing it. They depend upon themselves instead of the Holy Spirit. They practice mediocrity and not excellence; fear and not faith; and avoidance, not activism. John the Baptist was the opposite of the modern-day Christian.

John preached a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sin in the 15th year of Tiberius Caesar when Pontius Pilate was governor. From Isaiah, he quoted, ". . . Make ready the way of the Lord, make His paths straight. . . . And all flesh shall see the salvation of God" (Lk. 3:1-6). People realize they are sinners requiring a Savior prior to experiencing salvation through Christ.

John told the multitudes to "bring forth fruits in keeping with repentance" and not rely on their physical heritage in Abraham. True spiritual children would be born when bad fruit was cut down and burned. In response to the multitudes asking what they should do, he told them to share basic necessities like food and clothing with others. In response to a tax-gatherer's question, John told him to collect the right amount and to a soldier, not to take money by force or accuse anyone falsely, but be content with his wages (Lk. 3:7-14). Once people acknowledge their sin and trust in Christ completely for the forgiveness of sin, they become spiritually reborn with the potential to live a life worthy of God.

People wondered whether John was Christ. John said he  baptized with water, but a mightier One was coming who baptized with the Holy Spirit and fire and would burn the chaff with unquenchable fire (Lk. 3:15-17). Relying on the Holy Spirit provides power to live a pure and holy life.

Because John confronted Herod for marrying his brother's wife, Herodias, he was imprisoned (Lk. 3:18-20). Those who obey Christ without compromise will be persecuted by the world.

Heaven opened and the Holy Spirit descended upon John like a dove after Jesus was baptized and prayed. A voice from heaven said, "Thou art My beloved Son, in Thee I am well-pleased" (Lk. 3:21-22). A child of God who prays feels His love and care profoundly.

Jesus began his ministry at the age of 30 as the supposedly son of Joseph and descendant of David, Jacob, Isaac, Abraham, Adam and the son of God (Lk. 3:23-38). Because Jesus as the God-man goes through life like any other human being, He will come to your aid.

The following are values to distinguish you from the world: Ask the Holy Spirit to give you a fire for God. Pray for the filling of the Holy Spirit in your life. Confess all known sin. Refuse any compromise!

Pathway and Benefits of Thanksgiving (Insights in Psalms)

Robert Emmons, professor of psychology at the University of California-Davis, has studied the health benefits of thanksgiving. Thankful people have lower risks for depression, phobias, bulimia and alcoholism. People with high blood pressure not only lower their blood pressure, but feel less hostile and are more likely to quit smoking and lose weight when they practice gratitude. Those who care for relatives with Alzheimer's disease feel less stress and depression when they keep daily gratitude journals and list the positive things in their lives. Just by expressing thanks, you increase your ability to be thankful.

Grateful people don't focus so much on pain and problems. They are quicker to realize they have friends, families and communities to assist them in times of need. They see how they can help others in distress as well. Psalm 50 explains the pathway, obstacles and spiritual benefits of thanksgiving.

Pathway to Thanksgiving

God is mighty and righteous, the perfection of beauty out of Zion, with credentials to judge the righteous and wicked. God is not silent, but gathers His godly ones to Himself as they glory in His attributes (Ps. 50:1-6). To be thankful, acknowledge God's attributes of power, righteousness, sovereignty and holiness.

God owns everything. Every bird and cattle is His. God's ownership includes the world and everything in it (Ps. 50:7-13). To be thankful, recognize that God is your God and He owns everything.

All of this leads to the key command: Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving and call upon Him when trouble comes (Ps. 50:14-15). Thanksgiving doesn't come naturally and opposes your pride when you must recognize God's attributes and His ownership of your life.

Obstacles to Thanksgiving
Those who hate correction and discipline won't thank God. Those who steal and involved in sexual sin won't thank God.
Those with evil and deceptive speech won't thank God.
Those who slander a brother won't thank God.
Those who think God operates like humankind diminish His attributes and therefore, won't thank God (Ps. 50:16-21).

Spiritual Benefits of Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving honors and glorifies God. Thanksgiving enables people to walk in such a way that they experience salvation, deliverance and freedom (Ps. 50:22-23).

Write a letter of thanksgiving to someone. Consider writing a daily journal that lists everything you are thankful for.

Answer to Fear and Low Self-Esteem (insights in Psalms)

10/2/2010

Picture
Our identity affects everything we do in life. I remember being afraid of asking certain popular girls on a date because of low self-esteem and fearing they would say no. For a long time, I hesitated taking risks because I wasn't confident in the outcome. All of us face times when we need that anchor to embrace the purposes God has designed for us.

Because God was His rock and foundation to his life, David called all out to Him even when He seemed silent and unavailable. He became entirely dependent on God's strength and assistance in the midst of evil (Ps. 28:1-3).
Like David, why can you trust God to answer your prayers and rescue you from danger and evil?

Reading the newspapers and from experience, you know evil is an objective fact. Terrorists seek to destroy the US. The designers of computer viruses wipe out peoples' hard drives. Scam artists make money at the expense of innocent people, especially the elderly. The Psalmist sought justice because of evil's unfairness.

Description of Wrong Identity

There's also a subtle side to evil: emptiness leading to idolatry and the wrong identity. Some people enjoy making life harder for themselves because they face unnecessary misfortunes as a consequence of sin. Without discernment between good and evil, God will destroy them rather than build them up (Ps. 28:4-5).

Transition to Right Identity
If God is your rock and foundation, you know He hears and desires to answer your prayers. As a result, you trust and exalt in Him by offering thanksgiving (Ps. 28:6-7). Why does the Lord stoop down to be your strength and salvation (Ps. 28:8)?

Description of Right Identity
As believers in Christ, you have a high position as His anointed, literally "God's priest and king."  What are the implications being God's priest and king?

Benefits of Right Identity
Rather than cramped or oppressive lives, God saves you to be free within His boundaries. For example, a train is most free when it runs along a track, not when it becomes derailed. Similarly,  God delivers you from distress, trouble and affliction so you can feel safe and secure. The personal name of our Saviour, Jesus, derives from the same root of salvation. In other words, God is not only concerned about spiritual salvation or deliverance from sin, but seeks your physical and emotional well-being. He saves you from harm of any kind. It's God's love in action (Ps. 28:9).

As an added bonus, God offers both a physical and spiritual inheritance with temporal and eternal ramifications.  The last phrase, "Be their shepherd also, and carry them forever" describes what this inheritance looks like. As a personal shepherd, He provides for your needs, protects you from spiritual enemies, guides you into His purpose, and offers His presence in all the varied circumstances of life (Ps. 23).

Meditate on I Peter 2:9 that summarizes this passage since you are a chosen race, royal priesthood, holy nation and people for God's own possession. What are the implications for your life?
