Trusting God during temptations, crisis and stress reap benefits. By committing to purity, you reap greater learning and competence in your work. By asking God for wisdom and communicating with humility during a crisis, you reap promotion, provision and influence. By refusing to worship idols and trusting God during stressful circumstances, you see unbelievers praise God.

Commit to Purity and Reap Greater Competence
King Nebuchadnezzar carried off articles from God's temple to the temple of his god in Babylon. He brought young Israelites without defect showing aptitude for every kind so they could learn the language and literature of the Babylonians and be qualified to serve the king's palace after three years. Daniel resolved not to defile himself with royal food and wine. God caused the official to show favor, but was afraid he would look worse than other young men his age. After a ten-day test of vegetables and water, Daniel looked healthier and better nourished than the others who ate the royal food. God gave Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego knowledge and understanding of all kinds of literature and learning before entering the king's service. The king found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters in every matter of wisdom and understanding. Daniel also understood visions and dreams. He remained there until the first year of King Cyrus (Dan. 1:1-21). Commit to purity and reap greater learning and competence in your work.

Ask God for Wisdom During Crisis
Nebuchadnezzar threatened to kill the magicians and astrologers if they were unable to tell what he dreamt. After they said it was too difficult, Daniel spoke to Arioch, commander of the king's guard, with wisdom and tact asking why the king issued a harsh decree. Daniel went to the king and asked for time to interpret the dream. After Daniel explained the matter to his three friends, they prayed to God for mercy. During the night the mystery was revealed. Daniel praised God for His wisdom and power in setting up kings, removing them, giving wisdom to the wise, knowledge to the discerning, revealing deep and hidden things and knowing what lies in darkness. He praised Him for giving wisdom, power and making known the king's dream (Dan. 2:1-23). Ask God for wisdom and power during times of crisis.

Communicate God's Revelation with Humility to Unbelievers
Daniel told Arioch not to execute Babylon's wise men as he would interpret the dream to the king. Daniel said to the king that no wise man could explain the mystery except the God in heaven who revealed mysteries and future events to Nebuchadnezzar. Daniel did not take credit but said God wanted the king to know the dream's interpretation. The gold head was Nebuchadnezzar who ruled over all mankind and animals. After him, an inferior kingdom would
arise, next a bronze kingdom to rule over the earth and finally a fourth strong as iron to crush the others. The feet and toes consisted of baked clay and iron representing a divided kingdom with strong and brittle elements that would not remain united. God would set up a kingdom to crush and end all others, but would endure forever itself. It  represented the rock cut out of a mountain without human hands that broke to pieces the iron, bronze, clay, silver and gold (Dan. 2:24-45a). Communicate God's revelation with boldness, wisdom and humility to unbelievers.

Credit God for Wisdom Leading to Influence
After Daniel said the great God showed the king future events with a trustworthy interpretation, Nebuchadnezzar fell prostate before him, paid honor and ordered an offering and incense presented to Daniel. The king said that Daniel's god was God of gods, Lord of kings and revealer of mysteries. He placed Daniel in a high position, lavished many gifts, made him ruler over the entire province of Babylon and placed him in charge of the wise men. At Daniel's request, the king appointed his three friends adminstrators over the Babylon while he remained in the royal court (Dan. 2:45b-49). Credit God for wisdom and power leading to promotion, provision and influence.

Refuse Idol Worship While Trusting God During Stress
Nebuchadnezzar made a 90-foot-high gold image for everyone to worship, otherwise people were thrown into a blazing furnace. Some astrologers noticed Daniel's three friends not serving their gods or worshiping the gold image. Shadrach, Meshack and Abednego told the king they would not defend themselves as God could rescue them while inside the blazing furnace. Even if He did not, they would not serve Babylon's gods  or worship the gold image. The king was furious, ordered the furnace heated seven times hotter, commanded the three men to be tied and thrown in the furnace. The fire killed the men who carried them. The king saw four men walking in the fire unbound and unharmed with the fourth looking like the son of gods. The three men came out unharmed with no singing or scorching on their heads or robes and without smell of fire on them (Dan. 3:1-27). Refuse worshiping idols and trust God during stressful circumstances.

Watch Unbelievers Praise God Because of Believers' Sacrifice and Miracles
Nebuchadnezzar praised their God who sent His angel and rescued His servants. They trusted in Him, defied the king's command and were willing to die rather than serve or worship any god except their own. The king decreed that anyone who said anything against their God would be killed since no other god could save in this way. The king promoted Shadrach, Meshacha and Abednego in Babylon (Dan. 3:28-30). Watch unbelievers praise God because of believers' sacrifice and related miracles.

How have you trusted God during a temptation, crisis or stressful circumstances? What was the benefit?

How to Reduce Stress (Insights in Law)

10/21/2011

Picture
To increase stress, let others press you into their molds, try to please everyone, wing it and don't sweat the details, try to do a lot of things at one time, do everything yourself because other people are a pain and get in the way, prayer time is a waste of time and work is the most important thing so don’t stop until you drop. The Bible tells how to reduce stress through character, margin, worship and obedience.

Character Counts

Don't bear false report or join the wicked in being a malicious witness. Don't follow a multitude in doing evil. Don't be partial with the poor and needy. Don't testify in a dispute that perverts justice. Stay away from a false charge and don't kill the innocent or righteous since God won't acquit the guilty. A bribe blinds the clear-sighted and subverts the cause of the just. Don't oppress a stranger since you know their feelings (Ex. 23:1-9). Be honest and kind so you don't pervert justice.

Margin Refreshes
Sow your land for six years and let it rest the seventh year so the needy and animals may eat. Labor six days and on the seventh day cease from labor so your animals may rest and slave's son and stranger may refresh themselves. Don't talk about other gods (Ex. 23:10-13). Refresh yourselves by resting on the seventh day and not talking about other gods.

Worship Rejoices
Celebrate a feast and have males appear before the Lord three times a year. Eat unleavened bread for seven days during Feast of Unleavened Bread since you came out of Egypt and received provisions. Eat first fruits of your labor from what was sown in the Feast of the Harvest. Gather fruit from your labors at the end of the year in the Feast of the Ingathering. Bring the choice first fruits of your soil into the house of the Lord your God (Ex. 23:14-19). Worship God regularly by celebrating His provision.

Obedience Protects
God will send an angel to guard and bring you into the place He has prepared. Be on guard and obey His voice since He won't pardon the transgression of those who rebel. God will be an enemy to your enemies if you obey and do what He says. His angel will bring you into the land of the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hivites and Jebusites in order to destroy them. Don't worship or serve their gods by doing according to their deeds, but break their sacred pillars in pieces. Instead serve God since He blesses your bread, water and removes sickness from your midst. He sends His terror and hornets to bring confusion and drive out your enemies gradually, including the Hivites, Canaanite and Hittites. The extra time prevents desolation and allows you to be fruitful and take possession of the land. God will fix your boundaries from the Red Sea to the sea of the Philistines and from the wilderness to the River Euphrates as He delivers and drives out its inhabitants into your hand. You won't make a covenant with them or their gods. You prevent the snare of sin and serving their gods when these enemies don't live in their land (Ex. 23:20-33). Obedience to God's word through the power of the Holy Spirit prevents entanglement by sin and false gods.

Consider the following questions:
1. Are you honest and kind (character)?
2. Do you take time to rest and recreate (margin)?

3. Do you give God credit for provision (worship)?
4. Do you listen to God's voice (obedience)?

Dealing with Compromise, Independence and Stress (Insights in Prophets)

Picture
Compromise, independence and stress are modern-day issues that David also faced while being chased by Saul. What can we do to overcome these beasts that produce lies, attacks, chaos and  lack of peace? We see the importance of relationships combin addition to obeying God's word as  solutions. Study 1 Sam. 21-22 to learn how obedience, prayer and confession of sin combined with community, friends and hospitality relieve stress, overcome independence and defeat compromise.

Compromise
David deceived Ahimelech, the priest, by saying the king commissioned him about an important matter requiring secrecy. When David asked for bread, his young men received consecrated bread (1 Sam. 21:1-6). Fear causes lies, deception and compromises your faith.

Independence
Doeg the Edomite, chief of Saul’s shepherds, was detained before the Lord. David asked Abimelech for a spear or sword since he brought neither. The priest offered Goliath’s sword, which David took (1 Sam. 21:7-9). Independence in not using God’s armor through prayer and His word allows the evil one to attack you and others.

Stress
David fled from Saul and went to Aschish king of Gath. When his servants said, “Saul has slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands?”, David took these words to heart and greatly feared Achish. He disguised his sanity and acted insanely in their hands (1 Sam. 21:10-15). Stress produces chaos, lack of peace and non-transparency.

Obedience and Community Relieve Stress

David escaped to the cave of Adullam and his family went down to him. Everyone in distress, debt and discontented gathered to David and he became captain over 400 men. David asked the king of Moab if his family could stay with him until he knew what God would do for him.  The prophet of Gad said to David, “Do not stay in the stronghold; depart, and go into land of Judah.” David departed and went into the forest of Hereth (1 Sam. 22:1-5). Obedience to God's direction and community relieve stress.

Prayer and Friends Overcome Independence
After David was discovered, Saul said to servants, “Hear now, O Benjamites. Will David give to all of you fields and vineyards? Will he make you all commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds? Saul had self-pity that no one disclosed Jonathan’s plans in befriending David. Saul said everyone conspired against him by not disclosing to him that his son, Jonathan, had made a covenant with David so he could ambush Saul. Doeg said he saw David with Ahimelech who inquired of the Lord for him, gave him provisions and Goliath's
sword (1 Sam. 22:6-10). Friends protect you spiritually and physically with prayer and provisions to overcome independence.

Confession and Hospitality Defeat Compromise
Saul accused Ahimelech and David of conspiring together when he gave bread, a sword and inquired of God for him. When Saul’s guards didn’t kill Ahimelech and his father’s household, then Doeg the Edomite killed the priests, men, women, children, infants and animals. Abiathar, son of Ahimelech, told David that Saul killed the priests of the Lord. David confessed that he was responsible for these deaths and promised safety for Abiathar if he stayed with him
(1 Sam. 22:11-23). Confession of sin, hospitality as a demonstration of love and community defeat compromise.

Which of compromise, independence and stress cause you the most problems? Study the solution in the above paragraphs and ask God for the victory.
