How to Wait Upon God for Eternal Reward (Insights in Prophets)

"Waiting for God means power to do nothing save under command. This is not lack of power to do anything. Waiting for God needs strength rather than weakness. It is power to do nothing. It is the strength that holds strength in check. It is the strength that prevents the blundering activity which is entirely false and will make true activity impossible when the definite command comes"  (G. Campbell Morgan).

It is much easier to act than wait on God. Isaiah 37-40 explains how to wait upon God for strength and eternal reward to accomplish His purpose.

Ask for Counsel
King Hezekiah put on sackcloth and his aides told Isaiah that this day of distress and disgrace was like children coming to the point of birth with no strength to deliver them. They asked Isaiah to pray for the surviving remnant with the Lord possibly rebuking Assyria's ridicule of the living God. Isaiah told Hezekiah's aides not to fear their blasphemies since the Lord would put a spirit in Sennacherib, the king of Assyria, causing him to return and die by the sword in his own country. Sennacherib said that Hezekiah's god deceived him about Jerusalem not being handed over to Assyria since they destroyed many countries without their gods delivering them (Is. 37:1-13). Ask godly people for counsel and prayer when the world, flesh and devil oppose God's will.

Pray Fervently
Hezekiah took the letter from the messengers and begged the Almighty and Creator Lord to hear, open His eyes and listen to Sennacherib's insults of the living God. Hezekiah reminded Him that the Assyrian kings destroyed many nations whose gods were fashioned by humans hands. He asked for deliverance so everyone would know that God alone was Lord. Isaiah said that because Hezekiah prayed, God spoke against Sennacherib's insults and his pride over many chariots and drying up all of Egypt's streams. God planned for him to turn fortified cities into piles of stone, shame His people and rage against Him. Hezekiah received the sign of fruit from vineyards in the third year to represent the remnant of the house of Judah, which took root below and bore fruit above because of God's power. The Lord said Sennacherib would not enter Jerusalem because God defended and saved it for His sake. When the angel of the Lord killed 185,000 men in the Assyrian camp, Sennacherib returned to Nineveh. While worshiping in the temple of his god Nisroch, his sons killed him (Is. 37:14-38). Pray fervently for deliverance from evil forces that bears abundant fruit so everyone knows that God is Lord.

Journal Answered Prayer
After God listened to Hezekiah's prayer derived from his wholehearted devotion to Him, He added 15 years to his life, delivered him and defended Jerusalem from the king of Assyria. As a sign of God's promise to Hezekiah, God made the shadow go back ten steps on the stairway of Ahaz. After his illness and recovery, he asked if he must go through the gates of death and not see the Lord  in the land of the living. Hezekiah waited patiently till dawn as God broke all his bones. In anguish of soul, he asked God to come to his aid as He restored him to health. His love kept Hezekiah from the pit of destruction and put his sins behind God's back. He praised Him and told his children about God's faithfulness. Isaiah said to prepare a poultice of figs and apply it to the boil so Hezekiah would recover (Is. 38:1-22). Journal when God answers prayer in unmistakable ways to remind your children and others about God's love, power and faithfulness.

Do Not Store Earthly Treasures
Envoys from Babylon visited Hezekiah when they heard about his illness and recovery. He showed them silver, gold, spices, fine oil and everything among his treasures. Isaiah told Hezekiah that everything would be carried off to Babylon. Some of his descendants would be taken away as eunuchs in the palace of the Babylon king. Hezekiah said God's word was good since he would have peace and security during his lifetime (Is. 39:1-8). Do not store up treasures on earth where moth and rust destroy and thieves break in and steal.

Store Heavenly Treasures
Comfort and speak tenderly to God's people about the completion of her hard service with her sin paid for. Prepare the way as a highway for God in the wilderness so the rugged places became a plain and His glory revealed to all mankind. A voiced said all men were like grass and their glory like the flowers of the field. Only the word of God stands forever (Is. 40:1-8). Store up treasures in heaven like people and the word of God.

Glorify God's Power and Greatness
Isaiah told Judah that the Sovereign Lord came with power, His arm ruled and His reward was with Him. He tended His flock like a shepherd, carried them close to His heart and gently led those with young. God measured the waters and marked off the heavens in the hollow of His hand. He held the earth's dust in a basket and weighed the mountains on a scale. No one understood the Spirit of the Lord or instructed Him as His counselor. No one taught God knowledge, understanding or the right way. Nations were like a drop in a bucket and regarded as dust on the scales, worthless and nothing. One cannot compare God to a hand-made idol since He sat enthroned above people who were like grasshoppers. He stretched out the heavens like a canopy, reduced rulers to nothing and made judges meaningless so they withered away like chaff. God created the heavens and called each star by name because of His great power so none was missing (Is. 40:9-26). Glorify God's power, greatness and ability to shepherd so you don't trust in people.

Wait on God
An eternal and Creator God would not grow tired. No one could understand Him. He gave strength to the weary and increased the power of the weak. Even as youths grew tired and young men stumbled badly, those who hoped in God renewed their strength as they soared like eagles. They ran and walked without becoming weary and faint  (Is. 40:27-31). Wait on God for renewed strength to accomplish His purpose.

How to wait upon God for strength and eternal reward to accomplish His purpose:
1. Ask godly people for counsel and prayer when the world, flesh and devil oppose God's will
2. Pray fervently for deliverance from evil forces that bears abundant fruit so everyone knows that God is Lord
3. Journal when God answers prayer in unmistakable ways to remind your children and others about God's love, power and faithfulness
4. Do not store up treasures on earth where moth and rust destroy and thieves break in and steal
5. Store up treasures in heaven like people and the word of God
6. Glorify God's power, greatness and ability to shepherd so you don't trust in people

Test the Integrity of Teaching from Spiritual Leaders (Insights in Law)

10/28/2012

Someone wrote, "Ingratitude denotes spiritual immaturity. Infants do not always appreciate what parents do for them. They have short memories. Their concern is not what you did for me yesterday, but what are you doing for me today. The past is meaningless and so is the future. They live for the present. Those who are mature are deeply appreciative of those who labored in the past. They recognize those who labor during the present and provide for those who will be laboring in the future."

Test the integrity of teaching from spiritual leaders by observing the following fruit: rejoice in God's spiritual and financial blessings, seek righteous and wise counsel, offer their best to God, stop trusting in their resources and refuse the world's ways & personal agendas.

Rejoice in God's Provision
God commanded Israel to celebrate the Passover in the month of Abib when He brought them out of Egypt by night. They ate unleavened bread for seven days, the bread of affliction, to remember their departure. The seventh day would be a solemn assembly to the Lord. They celebrated the Feast of Weeks seven weeks after the beginning of harvest to make a freewill offering in proportion to God's blessings. They rejoiced at the place He chose as a dwelling for His name to include family, Levites, aliens, fatherless and widows in remembering their slavery in Egypt. They celebrated the Feast of Tabernacles seven days after gathering the produce of the threshing floor and winepress with the same group of people. The Lord blessed the harvest and work to make their joy complete. Three times each year, all the males appeared before the Lord in the place He chose at the Feast of Unleavened Bread, Feast of Weeks and Feast of Tabernacles so no one would appear before the Lord empty-handed. Every man gave in proportion to the way God blessed them (Deut. 16:1-17). Rejoice in God's spiritual and financial blessings as a witness of Christ to those around you.

Seek Good Counsel

They appointed judges and officers in every town the Lord gave them, according to tribes, so they could judge the people fairly without perversion or partiality. Instead of taking a bribe that blinded the wise and twisted the words of the righteous, they followed justice to possess the land that God gave. The Lord hated any wooden Asherah pole set up beside His altar or sacred stone (Deut. 16:18-22). Seek righteous and wise counsel without mixing worldly ideas so you can fulfill God's kingdom purpose.

Offer Your Best

They could not sacrifice a defective or flawed animal to the Lord. They investigated thoroughly and stoned to death any man or woman who transgressed God’s covenant by serving and worshiping other gods. This verdict was based on the testimony of two or three witnesses to purge the evil from their midst. For bloodshed, lawsuits or assaults, they went to the Levites and judge in office who ruled according to the law they taught. A man would be put to death if he showed contempt for their decision so people would be afraid and not show contempt again (Deut. 17:1-13). Offer your best to the Lord and follow His word in every situation.

Stop Trusting Your Resources

If they entered the land God gave and wanted a king like other nations, he would be selected among their brothers according to His will. The king could not acquire great numbers of horses, take many wives or accumulate much silver and gold that would lead his heart astray. He was required to read God’s word everyday so he could learn how to revere and follow Him carefully enabling his descendants to reign a long time (Deut 17:14-20). Stop trusting in your own resources and human strategies so you can follow God's word.

Refuse World's Ways
The Levites had no inheritance with Israel but lived on the Lord’s offerings. They were given the first fruits of the grain, new wine, oil and wool from the sheep that God chose to minister in His name always. The people could not imitate the nations’ evil ways in the land God gave like sacrificing their children in the fire, divination or sorcery, omens, witchcraft or casting spells. The Lord drove out these nations because of evil requiring everyone to be blameless before Him (Deut. 18:1-13). Refuse the world's ways and personal agendas and trust God’s provision and direction.

Test Integrity of Teaching

The Lord raised up a prophet from among their brothers with God’s word in his mouth for people to obey instead of listening to sorcery or divination. If the prophet presumed to speak in Him name something God did not command, he would be put to death. To test whether a message was spoken by God, it must take place or come true. If not, do not be afraid of the prophet (Deut. 18:14-22). Test the integrity of teaching from spiritual leaders by observing its fruit.

Test the integrity of teaching from spiritual leaders by observing the following fruit:
1. Rejoice in God's spiritual and financial blessings as a witness of Christ to those around them
2. Seek righteous and wise counsel without mixing worldly ideas so they can can fulfill God's kingdom purpose
3. Offer their best to the Lord and follow His word in every situation
4. Stop trusting in their own resources and human strategies so they can follow God's word
5. Refuse the world's ways and personal agendas and trust God’s provision and direction

Principles in Staying Devoted to Jesus No Matter Your Marital Status (Insights in NT)

10/26/2012

"Unfaithfulness in the key relationships of life is a common failure for many people in contemporary society. This lack leads to so much misery. We who trust Christ must not allow the world to squeeze us into its mold. What wonderful blessings flow from faithfulness in keeping our vows. Examine your life. Is it characterized by faithfulness? God is faithful. He keeps his promises to us. Keep your promises to God and to those with whom you have entered into covenant" (Harry Buis).

No matter your marital status, God demands holiness and complete devotion to Jesus Christ to show the world that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit. In 1 Cor. 5-7, Paul lists principles in staying devoted to Jesus Christ whether you are married or not. Loving church discipline serves a vital role.

Confront Sin in Believers’ Lives with Sincerity and Truth
Paul reported sexual immorality that did not occur among unbelievers when a man had his father's wife. Rather than being proud, grief should have motivated them to put out the man from their fellowship. Paul told them to hand the man over to Satan so his flesh would be destroyed and his spirit saved on the day of the Lord. A little yeast worked through the whole batch of dough. Remove the old yeast of malice and wickedness and replace it with the bread of sincerity and truth because Christ was sacrificed as the Passover lamb (1 Cor. 5:1-8). Confront sin in believers' lives with sincerity and truth.

Disassociate with Sinning Believers But Let God Judge Unbelievers
Continue associating with the evil people of the world, but do not even eat with those who call themselves brothers who were sexually immoral, greedy, idolaters, slanderers, drunkards or swindlers. Judge those inside the church and God would judge those outside. Expel the wicked man from among you (1 Cor. 5:9-13). Disassociate with sinning believers, but let God judge unbelievers.

Suffer Unjustly to Show World Your Transformed Life Instead of Court Date with Believers
Do not let courts settle disputes between believers. If saints judged the world and angels, wise believers have competency to judge trivial cases. Having lawsuits proved they had been defeated already. It would be better to be wronged or cheated by a brother. The wicked would not inherit the kingdom of God. Some of those in the church had been sexually immoral, idolaters, adulterers, male prostitutes, homosexual offenders, thieves, greedy, drunkards, slanders and swindlers but now they were washed, sanctified and justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 6:1-11). Suffer unjustly to show the world your transformed life instead of court date with believers.

Flee Sexual Immorality Because Your Body is Temple of the Holy Spirit
Everything was permissible but not everything was beneficial since it could master them. The body was designed for the Lord, not sexual immorality. God would raise them up like He raised Jesus from the dead. Because their bodies were members of Christ Himself, they could not unite themselves with a prostitute and become one flesh with her. He who united himself with the Lord became one with Him in spirit. Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin people committed were outside their body but sexual sins were against their own body. One's body was a temple of the Holy Spirit who was in them and received from God. Since they were not their own and bought with a price, it was appropriate to honor God with their body (1 Cor. 6:12-20). Flee sexual immorality because your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit.

Experience Marital Unity and Reject Passion Toward Someone Else Causing Divorce
Paul said it was good not to marry but because of immorality each man should have his own wife. A couple should fulfill their marital duty to one another since their bodies do not belong to them. Do not deprive each other except by mutual consent for the purpose of prayer. Come together to prevent temptation from Satan because of lacking self-control. Not everyone had the gift of celibacy like Paul. The unmarried and widows should stay unmarried, but being married was better than burning with passion. A spouse should not separate or divorce their partner. If they did, remain unmarried or be reconciled to their partner (1 Cor. 7:1-11). Experience marital unity and reject passion toward someone else causing divorce.

Pursue Marital Peace Knowing You Were Bought with Christ’s Blood
If a believer had an unbelieving spouse willing to stay married, do not divorce him or her. The unbelieving spouse was sanctified through the believing partner. The believing spouse was not bound if the unbelieving partner left because God called them to live in peace not knowing if the unbeliever would be saved. Remain in the situation of God's calling. A slave could gain freedom even though he or she would remain Christ's slave. You were bought with a price so do not become slaves of men (1 Cor. 7:12-24). Pursue marital peace knowing you were bought with Christ's blood.

Show Undivided Devotion to the Lord Regardless of Marital Status
Remain single or married because of the present crisis in the world. Those who get married face many troubles in this life. Live like being unmarried since the time is short. Be concerned only about pleasing the Lord. The married have divided interests in pleasing their spouse while the unmarried can have undivided devotion to the Lord. People have freedom to marry but those who had control over their own will did even better by not marrying. A person can marry another person in the Lord after their spouse died (1 Cor. 7:25-40).  Show undivided devotion to the Lord regardless of your marital status.

Here is a checklist of principles on how to stay devoted to Jesus whether you are married or unmarried:
1.  Confront sin in believers' lives with sincerity and truth

2. Disassociate with believers if they continue in sin, but let God judge unbelievers
3. Suffer unjustly to show the world your transformed life instead of going to court with unbelievers
4. Flee sexual immorality realizing your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit
5. Experience oneness in your marriage and reject passion toward someone else causing divorce
6. Pursue peace in your marriage realizing you were bought with Christ's shed blood
7. Show undivided devotion to the Lord regardless of your marital status

Understanding God's Power Impacts Everything (Insights in Psalms)

"When God comes down, He removes the immovable difficulties. When God comes down, the impossible becomes reality. God moves on behalf of the one who waits." Understanding God's power affects how you view and respond to need in peoples' lives. It affects your character and ability to see God answer prayer.

Eliphaz asked if a man could benefit God by being righteous. Job's sins were great as he was accused of withholding food from the hungry, sending widows away empty-handed and breaking the strength of the fatherless. This caused snares, sudden peril and water to cover Job. He fooled himself by thinking God could not see. Evil men asked God to leave them alone even though He filled their houses with good things (Job 22:1-18). Help the defenseless in their need will prove you know God.

Submit to God and be at peace with Him so prosperity can come. Lay up His words in your heart so the Almighty becomes your gold. In this way, you will be restored, find delight in God and He will hear your prayers. What you decide will be done so light can shine on your ways. God saved the downcast when men said, "Lift them up." You would be delivered by purity (Job 22:19-30). Submit to God by laying up His words in your heart to find favor and answered prayer.

Job's complained bitterly since he did not know where to find God. He stated his case to find how God would answer. Hopefully Job would be delivered from his judge. He caught no glimpse of God wherever he went. When He tested Job, he came forth as gold. He followed God's steps and did not depart from His commands. He treasured His words more than daily bread. God does what He pleases, which terrified Job (Job 23:1-17). Treasure God's word and follow in His steps for proven character.

God did not set times to judge men for evil deeds toward others. The poor gleaned in the vineyards of the wicked with nothing to cover themselves. The groans of the dying rose from the city and wounded souls cried for help. God charged no one with wrongdoing. People rebelled against the light through murder, stealing, adultery and robbery that cursed the land. God dragged the mighty so they had no assurance of life. Their exaltation was temporary and then cut off like heads of grain (Job 24:1-25). Refuse to rebel against God so you can hear the groans of the spiritual dying and the cry for help from wounded souls.

Bildad said dominion and awe belonged to God with no one righteous before Him. Job replied sarcastically how he helped the powerless and offered advice to one without wisdom. God suspended the earth over nothing and clouds do not burst under the weight of water. His power churned up the sea, His hand pierced the gliding serpent. No one  understood His power (Job 25:1-26:14).  Stand in awe of God's power who suspends the earth over nothing.

Job maintained his integrity with a clear conscience. God did not listen to the cry of the godless. Job taught people the power of God and His ways instead of meaningless talk. The wicked offspring never had enough to eat with the plague killing those coming later. He laid up riches for the righteous. Terrors overtook him like a flood (Job 27:1-23). Teach people the power of God while maintaining your integrity.

Ask yourself the following questions:
1. Do you help the defenseless in their need?
2. Do you lay up God's words in your heart to find favor and answered prayer?
3. Do you treasure God's word and follow in His steps for proven character?
4. Do you refuse to rebel against God so you hear the groans of the spiritual dying and the cry for help from wounded souls?
5. Do you stand in awe of God's power?
6. Do you teach people the power of God while maintaining your integrity?

Moving Away from "Politically Correctness" About Jesus (Insights in Prophets)

10/21/2012

Picture
"Who decides what is right and wrong In the world? Who has the authority to define morality for all of creation? It is not the courts, congress, the media, public opinion, the "politically correct" police, the "tolerance" brigade or even the church. The only answer has been, is and always will be Jesus Christ. You can find His opinion on a great variety of subjects in His best seller... The Bible" (Jeffrey E. Ramey).

The king of Assyria embraced a "politically correct" philosophy about Jesus. How do you move way from tolerance or a philosophy about Jesus so He impacts every part of your life?

God Desires Foundation
Woe to the destroyer and traitor who would eventually be destroyed and betrayed. Ask God to be gracious as they longed for Him. He was their strength and and salvation in time of distress. Nations scattered when God rose up. He was exalted, dwelt on high and filled Zion with justice and righteousness. God was a sure foundation for their times and rich store of salvation, wisdom and knowledge. The fear of the Lord was the key to treasure. The land mourned and wasted away. The Lord was exalted and burned the people who conceived chaff and birthed straw (Is. 33:1-12). God desires to be your foundation for strength, salvation, wisdom and knowledge during times of distress.

God Reveals Beauty
Trembling gripped the godless. Only those who walked righteously, spoke rightly, rejected gain from extortion and refused bribes and murder plots could dwell with the consuming fire. They made the mountain fortress their refuge and God supplied bread and water. Their eyes saw the king in His beauty. They would not see arrogant officers anymore with their strange tongues who took advantage of them. Their eyes saw Jerusalem, a peaceful abode and unmovable tent along with the Mighty One who used a judge, lawgiver and king to save them. The spoil would be divided with the lame carrying plunder. No one in Zion would be sick and everyone's sins were forgiven (Is. 33:13-24). God reveals His beauty as the Mighty One who provides bread and forgives sin.

God Judges Sin
Let the earth hear about the Lord's anger with all nations. He destroyed all their armies, soaked their blood on the mountains, dissolved stars and rolled up the sky like a scroll. God judged and destroyed Edom to uphold Zion's cause. God stretched over Edom the measuring line of chaos so that princes vanished away and thorns overrun her strongholds, which became a home for owls. The Lord's scroll read that no mates would be missing because His Spirit gathered and distributed them together to live there forever (Is. 34:1-17). God judges sin, breaks strongholds and upholds His cause.

God Opens Eyes
The wilderness rejoiced and blossomed. Lebanon, Carmel and Sharon saw the glory and splendor of God. Encourage the exhausted, strengthen the feeble and tell the fearful to be strong. God came with vengeance to save them. He opened blind eyes and unstopped deaf ears with the lame leaping like a deer and the tongue of the dumb shouting for joy. Water gushed forth in the wilderness with streams in the desert. The burning sand became a pool and thirsty ground bubbling brooks. The highway was called the Way of Holiness for the redeemed who walked in that Way. The ransomed of the Lord returned and entered Zion with singing. He crowned their heads with eternal joy and sorrow left (Is. 35:1-10). God opens blind eyes and unstops deaf ears so they can drink from streams in the desert and walk in the Way of Holiness with eternal joy.

God Offers Choice
Sennacherib king of Assyria attacked and  captured the fortified city of Judah. He asked Hezekiah on whom he was depending that caused him to rebel against Sennacherib. Did he say Egypt, splintered reed of a staff, or God, the one whose high places and altars Hezekiah removed? He would get 2,000 horses if he made a bargain with Assyria. Sennacherib said the Lord told him to destroy Judah (Is. 36:1-10). God offers a choice to depend on Him causing people to make fun of you or accept immediate benefits for personal gain.

God Delivers From Evil
The commander called out in Hebrew urging them to not let Hezekiah deceive them if they trusted in God for deliverance from Assyria. Making peace with Assyria would enable everyone to eat from their own vine and drink water from their own cistern in a land like their own with grain, new wine, bread and vineyards. No god had ever delivered any nation from the king of Assyria. The people remained silent because the king said to not answer him. The palace administrator, secretary and recorder went to Hezekiah and told him what Assyria's field commander said (Is. 36:11-22). God delivers you from evil forces if you refuse making peace with them.

Steps in moving away from political correctness about Jesus to fully embracing Him in your life:
1. Allow Christ be your foundation for strength, salvation, wisdom and knowledge during times of distress
2. Glory in the beauty and mighty power of Christ who provides bread and forgives sin
3. Accept God's judgment of sin to break strongholds and uphold His cause
4. Rejoice in Christ opening blind eyes and unstopping deaf ears so you can drink from streams in the desert and walk in the Way of Holiness with eternal joy
5. Choose to depend on Christ causing people to make fun of you instead of accepting immediate benefits for personal gain
6. Receive God's deliverance from evil forces instead of making peace with them

Conversions Necessary for Proper Stewardship (Insights in Law)

10/21/2012

Picture
Martin Luther wrote that for proper stewardship, "there are three conversions necessary: the conversion of the heart, mind, and the purse." Deut. 13-15 explains proper stewardship begins with loving God (conversion of the heart). It continues with confronting sin and eating healthy (conversion of the mind). It concludes with paying the firstfruits of your earnings, giving generously to the poor and showing consideration to employees (conversion of the purse). Stewardship involves surrendering time, talent and treasure to God as you spend time with Him.

Love God
Do not listen to prophet or dreamer who correctly predicted a miracle if he told people to follow other gods. This was God's test to find out whether they loved Him with all their heart and soul to obey and serve Him only. That prophet or dreamer must be put to death to purge evil among them because he preached rebellion against God who redeemed people from the land of slavery in Egypt. If close relative of friend secretly enticed people you to worship other gods, put him to death so Israel would be afraid and not do evil thing again (Deut. 13:1-11). Love God with all your heart and soul so you can pray and confront sin in your family.

Confront Sin
If wicked men led a city astray to worship other gods, investigate thoroughly, put them to death, destroy both its people and livestock and burn the plunder in the middle of the public square along with the city as a burnt offering to the Lord as a ruin forever never to be rebuilt. The Lord would turn from His anger and show mercy, compassion and increase the numbers as He promised because of obeying His commands (Deut. 13:12-18). Pray and publicly confront church and community-wide sin so God shows mercy and compassion to multiply disciples of Christ.

Eat Healthy
Forbid cutting or shaving the front of peoples' heads for the dead since they were holy and chosen by God as His treasured possession. Eat ox, sheep, goat, deer, gazelle and antelope along with animals with split hoof that chewed cud except camel, rabbit or rock badger. Do not eat pig since it was considered ceremonially unclean. Eat creatures living in water with fins and scales along with clean birds except eagle, vulture, falcon, raven, owl, gull, hawk, osprey, stork, heron and bat. Do not eat flying insects but eat any clean winged creature. Do not eat dead creatures but can give to an alien to eat or sell to a foreigner (Deut. 14:1-21). Eat healthy foods to demonstrate God's holiness as His treasured people.

Pay Firstfruits
Eat the tenth of the grain, new wine and oil that the fields and firstborn of the herds produced each year at the place God chose as a dwelling to learn reverence for His name. If the place was too far, exchange the tithe for silver to buy cattle, sheep, wine or fermented drink and eat in the presence of the Lord. Do not neglect the Levites since they had no inheritance of their own. Every three years, all the tithes of that year's produce would be stored so the Levites, aliens, fatherless and widows could eat and God bless the work of peoples' hands (Deut. 14:22-29). Pay firstfruits from your earnings to learn reverence of God and provide financially for full-time vocational workers and the needy.

Give Generously
Cancel loans to fellow Israelites or brothers every seven years to proclaim the Lord's time for canceling debts. There should be no poor among them for God richly blessed them in giving the land to possess as an inheritance if they fully obeyed all His commands. They would lend to and rule over many nations but borrow from none and none would rule over them. Do not be hardhearted or tightfisted to a poor brother, but be openhanded and freely lend whatever he needed. He could appeal to the Lord and the stingy person be found guilty of sin. God blessed the work of those who gave generously without a grudging heart. Be open-handed toward brothers and the needy even though would always be poor people in the land (Deut. 15:1-11). Give generously to the poor so God can bless the work of your hands.

Show Consideration
Let a fellow Hebrew slave go free with many resources according to the Lord's blessing in the seventh year. God gave this command because of them being slaves and redeemed in Egypt. They took an awl and pushed it through  ear lobe into the door of slaves and maidservants who wanted to stay for life. Setting servants free should not be a hardship since their service was worth twice compared to a hired hand. As a result, God blessed their owners in everything they did (Deut. 15:12-18). Show consideration and generosity to your employees.

Surrender Time, Talent and Treasure
Set apart every firstborn male of herds and flocks. Do not put the firstborn oxen to work and do not shear the firstborn sheep but eat them in the presence of the Lord at the place God chose. A defective, lame or blind animal with a serious flaw was not sacrificed to the Lord but they ate it without the blood (Deut. 15:19-23). Surrender the best of your time, talent and treasure to God as you spend time with Him.

Consider how you are doing in the conversion of your heart, mind and purse for proper stewardship on a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being the lowest and 10 the highest:
1. Love God with all your heart and soul so you can pray and confront sin in your family
2. Pray and publicly confront church and community-wide sin so God shows mercy and compassion to multiply disciples of Christ
3. Eat healthy foods to demonstrate God's holiness as His treasured people
4. Pay firstfruits from your earnings to learn reverence of God and provide financially for full-time vocational workers and the needy
5. Give generously to the poor so God can bless the work of your hands
6. Show consideration and generosity to your employees
7. Surrender the best of your time, talent and treasure to God as you spend time with Him
Ask God to develop your one or two lowest rated conversions related to stewardship.

Fathers in the faith plant or water the word. They allow the Holy Spirit to inspire their works as they become wise in Christ. They serve faithfully knowing God judges motives. They endure mistreatment and dishonor. They demonstrate a loving way of life to children. Here is the outcome of fathers doing their thing: glorify God, receive reward at judgment seat of Christ, indwell by Holy Spirit, praise from God, spectacle to men and angels and show love.

Assign Fathers Task of Planting or Watering the Seed for God’s Glory
Paul addressed the Corinthians as worldly or infants in Christ needing milk, not solid food, since they were unprepared. Their jealousy and quarreling proved their worldliness. When one said, "I follow Paul" or "I follow Apollos," they acted like mere men, but believed in Christ through servants like Paul and Apollos. The Lord assigned each a particular task with one purpose and rewarded them according to their labor when Paul planted the seed, Apollos watered it and God made it grow. Paul and the Corinthians were God's fellow workers. The Corinthians were God's field and building (1 Cor. 3:1-9). Assign fathers in the faith the task of planting or watering the seed for God’s glory.

Allow Holy Spirit Inspire Fathers’ Works to Receive Reward at Judgment Seat of Christ
Paul received grace from God to lay a foundation as an expert builder. Be careful how you build upon the foundation of Christ, which could be gold, silver, costly stones or wood, hay or straw. God would reveal His work with fire at the judgment seat to test its quality. If his work survived, he was rewarded. If his work burned, he suffered loss, but was saved, yet escaped through the flames (1 Cor. 3:10-15). Allow the Holy Spirit to inspire fathers’ works so they receive reward at the judgment seat of Christ.

Become Wise in Christ Instead of World Because Holy Spirit Indwells Fathers

God's Spirit lived in them as His temple. If anyone destroyed God's temple, He would destroy him for His temple was sacred. Do not think you were wise according to the world's standards because the wisdom of this world is foolishness and futile. Become foolish so you can become wise.  Do not boast about men because you have everything in Christ (1 Cor. 3:16-23). Become wise in Christ instead of the world because the Holy Spirit indwells fathers.

Serve Faithfully Knowing God Judges Fathers’ Motives with Praise Coming From Him
Be regarded as faithful servants of Christ entrusted with the sacred things of God since no one including ourselves could judge correctly, except God. He brought what was hidden in darkness to expose the motives of men's hearts so each received praise from God (1 Cor. 4:1-5). Serve faithfully knowing God judges fathers’ motives with praise coming from Him.

Endure Mistreatment and Dishonor as Father Being a Spectacle to Men and Angels
Because everything came from God who made you unique, stop comparing yourself with others. Paul was made an apostle instead of a king and put on display like men condemned to die in an arena as a spectacle to the whole universe. He was a fool for Christ, weak, dishonored, hungry, thirsty, in rags, brutally treated, homeless and worked hard with his hands. In contrast, they were wise in Christ, strong and honored. Paul blessed when cursed, endured when persecuted and answered kindly when slandered as the scum of the earth and refuse of the world (1 Cor. 4:6-13). Endure mistreatment and dishonor as a father being a spectacle to men and angels.

Demonstrate a Loving Way of Life as Father Before Children
Paul urged them to imitate him as their father in the gospel of Christ. He sent Timothy, his son in the faith, to remind them of his way of life in Christ that agreed with what he taught in every church. If God willed, Paul planned to come soon to determine which power was behind what arrogant people said. The kingdom of God was not talk, but power. He preferred to come with love and a gentle spirit instead of a whip (1 Cor. 4:14-21). Demonstrate a loving way of life as a father before children.

Ask God to empower you in the following aspects of natural and spiritual fatherhood:
1. Plant or water the word so God gets the glory
2. Allow the Holy Spirit to inspire your works
3. Become wise in Christ instead of the world
4. Serve faithfully knowing God judges motives
5. Endure mistreatment and dishonor
6. Demonstrate a loving way of life to children

Be Confident in God Who Defeats Wickedness (Insights in Psalms)

10/18/2012

Picture
Self-confidence fails but God-confidence succeeds. Place confidence in God's intercession since He lives. He finds strong and wise men to defeat wickedness, silences those who do not know Him, judges those who attack you, appoints a tragic end for the wicked and judges everyone with complete knowledge.

Job asked what ailed his friends since they were miserable comforters with long-winded speeches. If he was in their place, Job would encourage and bring them relief. God had worn him out, devastated his entire household and gnashed his teeth at him. Men also united together against Job. God turned him over to evil men, crushed and made him his target. Job wept and was free of violence. With pure prayer, he cried out knowing his intercessor was his friend who pleaded with God on his behalf (Job 16:1-22).
Be confident in prayer knowing God intercedes when everyone is against you.

Job's spirit was broken and his days cut short. Mockers surrounded Job but he was confident God would not let them triumph. They made him a byword to everyone causing grief. The innocent were aroused against the ungodly. The righteous held to their ways and grew stronger. Job doubted if he would find a wise man. His plans and desires of  his heart were shattered. He lost all hope when those in darkness said light was near (Job 17:1-16). Be confident knowing God will find wise and strong men to defeat wickedness.

Bildad asked Job when he would end speeches calling them stupid since the world would still go on. Those who do not know God have their vigor weakened, terrors startled them, memory of them perished, driven from light into darkness and no descendants among their people (Job 18:1-21). Be confident knowing that God will silence those who do not know Him.

Job wondered how long torment would last since he was reproached ten times and shamelessly attacked. He received no justice or response when calling for  help. God blocked His way, stripped his honor, removed the crown from his head, uprooted his hope and counted an enemy. God alienated his brothers from him, forgotten by friends and counted as a stranger by guests and maidservants. Job's wife found his breath offensive, loathsome to his own brothers and ridiculed by little boys to become nothing but skin and bones. He knew his Redeemer lived and in the end He would stand upon the earth so Job would see God (Job 19:1-29). Be confident that your Redeemer lives and will judge those who attack you.

Zophar was greatly disturbed and reminded Job that the joy of the godless and prideful lasted briefly. God made him vomit riches he swallowed so he could not enjoy profit from his trading. He oppressed the poor and seized houses he did not build. His treasure could not save him, his prosperity did not endure, distress overtook him and fire consumed him (Job 20:1-29). Be confident that God appoints a tragic end for the wicked.

Job admitted his impatience and trembling over the wicked who increase in power and prosper economically without fear. They requested God to leave them alone since they had no desire to know, serve or pray to Him.  Job asked that the wicked see their destruction and drink of God's wrath. No one taught knowledge to God since He judged even the highest. Those at ease and the bitter both die and decay. He wondered if the wicked would be made accountable for their actions (Job 21:1-34). Be confident that God judges everyone with complete knowledge.

Remember God's promise in Heb. 7:25 when you see wickedness: Therefore He is able to save completely those who come to God through Him, because He always lives to intercede for them.

Impact and Lifestyle of True Worship (Insights in Prophets)

True worship can be summarized as acknowledging God's holiness and greatness to gain understanding and learn instruction. It begins with repentance of sin and trusts in the Holy Spirit for strength. Personal impact: Waits on Him in prayer and meditates on God's word to heal wounds. Corporate impact: Praises God to defeat evil in the world. Internal impact: relies on the truth of God's word to deliver you from strongholds. External impact: explains God's truth fluently and clearly to satisfy spiritual hunger and thirst. True worship lifestyle: Seeks God desperately until the Holy Spirit works peace, confidence and freedom.

False Worship Summarized
God set up siege works against Ariel where David settled causing them to mourn. Their enemies became like fine dust. The Lord Almighty came with thunder, earthquake and devouring fire so those nations waging war against Mt. Zion became faint with unquenched thirst. The Lord brought deep sleep to the prophets' eyes and His vision was sealed in a scroll so no one could read it. The Lord said His people came near and honored Him with their lips but their hearts were far away. Their worship consisted of rules taught by men. The wisdom of the wise would perish and intelligence of the intelligent vanish (Is. 29:1-14).  False worship consists of following man's rules without heart behind them.

True Worship Summarized
Woe to those who hid their plans from God and worked in darkness thinking no one saw them. Should what is formed say to his creator that he did not make him or the pot to the potter, "He knows nothing?" The deaf heard the words of the scroll and eyes of the blind saw. The humble and needy rejoiced in the Lord. The ruthless vanished and mockers disappeared. God cut down those with an eye for evil whose false testimony deprived the innocent of justice. The Lord said Jacob would no longer be ashamed, but acknowledged His holiness  and stood in awe of the God of Israel. Those with wayward spirit gained understanding and complainers learned instruction (Is. 29:15-24).  True worship acknowledges God's holiness and greatness to gain understanding and learn instruction.

True Worship Initiation

Woe to those who carried out plans and formed alliances without His Spirit. They went to Egypt without consulting God. Looking to Pharaoh for protection brought shame and disgrace instead of help and advantage. Write on a tablet about these rebellious and deceitful children unwilling to listen to the Lord's instruction. They said to the seers and prophets that they wanted no more righteous visions where they were confronted with the Holy One, but pleasant words and illusions. The sin of relying on oppression and depending on deceit became like a high wall that collapsed  instantly. In repentance and rest was salvation, in quietness and trust was strength, but instead of being willing, they left on horses with little threat to them (Is. 30:1-17).  True worship repents of sin for salvation and trusts in the Holy Spirit for strength.

True Worship Personal Impact
The Lord longed to be gracious and compassionate. Blessed were those who wait for Him. God showed grace and answered when they cried for help. He revealed the way to walk during adversity and affliction so they did not trust in the idols of materialism. He sent rain to sow the seed in the ground that yielded plentiful food. The Lord bound up their bruises and healed their wounds (Is. 30:18-26). True worship  waits on Him in prayer and meditates on God's word for the healing of wounds.

True Worship Corporate Impact
His wrath shook the nations and placed a bit to lead them astray. Their hearts sang and rejoiced on the mountain of the Lord. Men heard God's majestic voice to the music of tambourines and harps that shattered Assyria with His scepter and punishing rod (Is. 30:27--33). True worship praises God as the chief weapon of spiritual warfare to defeat evil.

True Worship Internal Impact
Woe to those who went to Egypt for help, relied on horses and trusted in many chariots instead of seeking help from God. The Lord Almighty shielded, delivered and rescued Jerusalem while defeating evildoers. God called Israel to return to Him and reject idols their hands made. The sword of God's word devoured Assyria, placed young men in forced labor, broke their stronghold and caused commanders to panic (Is. 31:1-9). True worship relies on the truth of God's word for deliverance from evil strongholds and slavery to sin.

True Worship External Impact
A king reigned in righteousness and rulers ruled with justice like a shelter from the wind, refuge from the storm and streams of water in the desert. The blind saw, the deaf heard, the rash discerned the truth and the stammering tongue was fluent and clear. The fool was not called noble nor the scoundrel highly respected since the fool spoke nonsense, practiced ungodliness and spread error concerning the Lord so the hungry left unsatisfied and withheld water from the thirsty. The scoundrel made evil schemes and destroyed the poor with lies even when the needy spoke truth. The noble man made noble plans and stood by them (Is. 32:1-8). True worship explains God's truth fluently and clearly to satisfy spiritual hunger and thirst.

True Worship Lifestyle
Complacent women trembled in a little more than one year when the fruit harvest failed. They mourned for the fruitful until the Holy Spirit was poured out upon the land of God's people overgrown with thorns and the city of revelry with the abandoned fortress and deserted city became fertile. The fruit and effect of righteousness would be peace, quietness and confidence forever so His people could live securely in places of rest. Even as the city was leveled completely, how blessed to sow seed by every stream letting animals range freely (Is. 32:9-20). True worship seeks God desperately until the Holy Spirit works peace, confidence and freedom.

Begin to seek God desperately until the Holy Spirit works peace, confidence and freedom in your life.

Components to Advance God's Kingdom Agenda and Not the World's (Insights in Law)

10/13/2012

Picture
An anonymous person wrote, "It takes courage To refrain from gossip when others about you delight in it. To stand up for an absent person who is being abused. To live honestly within your means and not dishonestly on the means of others. To be a real man, a true woman, by holding fast to your Christian ideals when it causes you to be looked upon as strange and peculiar. To be talked about and yet remain silent when a word would justify you in the yes of others, but which you cannot speak without injury to another. To refuse to do a thing which is wrong, though other do it. To dress according to you income and to deny yourself what you cannot afford to buy. To live always according to your convictions."

Certain components are necessary to advance God's kingdom agenda and not the world's. It requires various spiritual gifts working together to write His love on your hearts to empower obedience, serve the poor, open doors to kingdom ministry supernaturally, use every media and situation to train spiritual children, seek the Lord, give generously and obey His word completely as a defense against worldliness.

The Lord told Moses to cut out two tablets of stone so God could write the Ten Commandments again and have them put in the ark.  After Aaron died, the Lord set apart Levi who carried, stood, served and pronounced blessings in His name since the Lord was their inheritance. Moses stayed on the mountain 40 days and nights like first time. Because the Lord listened and was not willing to destroy them, he led the people to enter and possess the land He promised (Deut. 10:1-11). God requires various spiritual gifts working together in ministry so people can advance His kingdom agenda, not the world's.

The Lord required them to fear, walk, love and serve Him with all their heart and soul in order to observe His commandments for their good. Heaven, earth and everything in it belonged to God. He loved and chose Israel above all nations. God instructed them to soften their hearts since the great and awesome God was Lord over all gods. He showed no partiality without bribes, but defended the cause of the fatherless and widow, loved the alien and gave them food and clothing. They were to love aliens as they were aliens in Egypt. God was their praise and did great and awesome wonders their eyes saw. Their forefathers went down to Egypt and God made them numerous as the stars of heaven (Deut. 10:12-22). God writes love on your hearts to empower obedience and serve the poor for your good.

Love God and keep His commandments for strength to possess and live long in the land flowing with milk and honey He cared for. Remember their children who had not seen and experienced His discipline, greatness and miracles in Egypt when the Red Sea parted and God defeated Pharaoh’s army. Their children had not seen other great works God did in the wilderness when the earth opened and swallowed Dathan and Abiram. God brought rain if they loved God and served Him with all your heart and soul. Being deceived by worshiping other gods caused drought and death (Deut. 11:1-17). God opens doors to kingdom ministry supernaturally when you love Him and obey His commands.

They impressed these words on their heart and soul, tied them as symbols on their hands and bound them on their foreheads. Taught and talked of them when they sat in their e house, walked along road, lied down and rose up. Wrote them on the doorposts of their house and gates to multiply their sons' days in the land. By keeping His commands, the Lord drove out nations mightier than them. Every place where they walked would be theirs from the wilderness to Lebanon, from the river Euphrates as far as western sea. Every man would stand and fear when they saw them. God set blessings if they obeyed His commandments and curses if they disobeyed by following other gods. Proclaim blessings on Mt. Gerizim and curses on Mt. Ebal (Deut. 11:18-32). Use every media and situation to equip spiritual children to obey God’s word for success and blessing.

These were the commandments to obey in the land God gave them to possess. Destroy every place where nations served their gods, tore down their altars, smashed sacred pillars, burned Asherim and cut down engraved images of their gods. Seek the Lord and bring all the sacrifices at the place He chose to establish His name for His dwelling. Bring burnt offerings, sacrifices, tithes, special gifts, freewill offerings and the first-born of your herd. They rejoiced in all their  undertakings. After crossing the Jordan to live where the Lord gave as an inheritance, He provided rest and safety from their enemies (Deut. 12:1-14). Turn from idols, seek the Lord and give generously to defend against worldliness.

They killed and ate meat within any of their gates according to the Lord's blessing. They ate blood, tithed grain and new wine, firstborn of their herds, freewill offerings or special gifts in the presence of the Lord where He chose. They did not neglect the Levites. They ate anything everywhere except the blood for it was the life. They took holy things they vowed to the place God chose. They were careful to obey these words so it may go well with them and their children in doing what was good and right in the Lord’s sight. When God destroyed nations they were to dispossess to live in their land, He instructed them to not be ensnared by inquiring about their gods saying, “How do these nations serve their gods? We will do the same.” Do not worship the Lord their way because in worshiping their gods, they would do bad things God hated. Do not add or take away what God commanded (Deut. 12:15-32).  Follow God’s commands solely and completely while rejecting worldliness in fulfilling kingdom ministry.

Consider the following components in advancing God's kingdom agenda:
1. Join an environment where various spiritual gifts work together in kingdom ministry
2. Allow God to write His love on your heart to empower obedience and serve the poor
3. Wait for God to open doors to kingdom ministry supernaturally
4. Use every media and situation to equip spiritual children
5. Turn from worldliness, seek the Lord and give generously

6. Follow God's commands solely and completely in fulfilling kingdom ministry
