To prepare for kingdom work, fight bravely knowing God defeats spiritual enemies. Trust in His resources, build people up through His word, organize kingdom work in holiness and prayer, share ministry among various generations, let God choose workers without distinction between secular and sacred work, listen to God for practical details in ministry, and receive wealth and power from Him.

Fight Bravely Knowing God Defeats Spiritual Enemies

David expressed sympathy to Hanun because his father showed kindness to  him. The Ammonites told Hanun that David's intentions was to spy and overthrow the land. Hanun humiliated  David's men by shaving and cutting off their garments in the middle at the buttocks.  The Ammonites hired 32,000 chariots and charioteers while Joab deployed his best troops in Israel against Arameans. Troops helped one another if Arameans or Ammonites became too strong for one group. Joab said to be strong and fight bravely because the Lord would do what was right in His sight. The Arameans fled before Joab and David killed 7,000 charioteers and 40,000 foot soldiers. They made peace and were subject to David. The Arameans were not willing to help the Ammonites anymore. Joab took much plunder from the cities of the Ammonites, placed their king's crown on David's head and consigned their people to slave labor. They subjected the Philistines by killing Goliath's brother and other large descendants of Rapha (1 Chron. 19:1-20:8). Fight bravely knowing God does right and defeats spiritual enemies.

Trust in God's Resources and Not Your Own
Satan rose up against Israel and incited David to take a census. Joab warned David that counting the Israelites would bring guilt on Israel. He counted 1.1 million fighting men in Israel and 470,000 in Judah. Because David's command was repulsive to Levi, Benjamin and God, He punished Israel. Gad gave David three options because of his sin: three years of famine, three months of enemies overtaking them or three days of plague. David asked to fall into God's merciful hands and not in men's. The Lord sent a plague that killed 70,000 men of Israel. David saw an angel of the Lord standing between heaven and earth with a drawn sword extended over Jerusalem. David obeyed God's word to build an altar to Him on the threshing floor of Araunah. He paid the full price to sacrifice a burnt offering that cost something (1 Chron. 21:1-30). Trust in God's resources and not your own since He fights for you.

Build People Up Through His Word
David appointed aliens living in Israel as stonecutters to prepare dressed stone for building the house of God. He provided iron, bronze and cedar logs to make nails for the doors and fittings. David prepared extensively to build the magnificent house of fame and splendor in the sight of the nations. Shedding blood in wars prevented David from building the house. He charged Solomon to build it according to God's word. Solomon was a man of peace with rest from all his enemies. David told him the Lord would be with him and have success if he kept the law. He asked God to give Solomon discretion and understanding, be strong and courageous without fear or discouragement when He put him in command over Israel. David took great pains to provide 100,000 talents of gold, 1 million talents of silver, large amount  of bronze and iron, wood and stone. He provided many workmen including stonecutters, masons, carpenters and craftsmen skilled in gold, silver, bronze and iron. David ordered all the Israelite leaders help Solomon and devote their heart and soul to seeking God (1 Chron. 22:1-19). Build people up through His word with a servant heart.

Organize Kingdom Work in Holiness and Prayer
David made 24,000 Levites supervise the work of the temple, 6,000 as officials and judges, 4,000 as gatekeepers and 4,000 to praise the Lord with musical instruments. He divided the Levites into groups corresponding to the sons of Levi: Gershonites, Kohathites and Merarites. The Levites helped Aaron's descendants in the temple service and purification of sacred things. They thanked and praised God every morning, evening and whenever burnt offerings were presented during the feasts. They carried out their responsibilities in the proper number and way prescribed for the Tent of Meeting and Holy Place (1 Chron. 23:1-32). Organize kingdom work so people pursue holiness, intercede in prayer, minister to God in praise and thanksgiving, and bless others.

Share Ministry Among Various Generations
David separated Aaron's sons into divisions for their appointed order of ministering. A larger number of leaders were found among Eleazar's descendants than Ithamar's. David and his army commanders set apart some of Asaph's sons and two others for the ministry of prophesying accompanied by harps, lyres and cymbals. Asaph's sons prophesied under the king's supervision. Jeduthun's sons prophesied using the harp in thanking and praising God. Heman's sons were given God's promises to exalt Him. All these men were under their father's supervision with cymbals, lyres and harps for the music ministry at the house of God. They were trained and skilled in music for the Lord (1 Chron. 24:1-25:31). Share ministry among various generations in Spirit-inspired prophesy, praise and music ministry.

Let God Choose Workers Without Distinction Between Secular and Sacred Work
These divisions of the gatekeepers through their chief men had duties for ministering in the temple of God. Shemaiah's sons were leaders in their father's family because they were very capable men with the strength to do the work. Six Levites a day on the east, four a day on the north and south, two at a time at the storehouse. Their fellow Levites were in charge of treasuries of the house of God (1 Chron. 26:1-32). Let God choose workers without distinction between secular or sacred work.

Listen to God for Practical Details in Ministry
Each army division of 24,000 served one month each year. Benaiah was a mighty man among the Thirty and over the Thirty. Each of the 12 tribes had an officer over it. A list was made of officials in charge of David's property. He charged Solomon to serve God with wholehearted devotion and a willing mind for He searched every heart and understood every motive behind the thoughts. David gave Solomon plans of all the Spirit put in his mind for the construction of the temple, instructions for the divisions of the priests and Levites, work of serving in the temple, and articles to be used for service. All this was in writing because God's hand was upon David and gave him understanding in all the details of the plan. Solomon was to be strong, courageous and without fear or discouragement. The divisions of the priests and Levites along with skilled craftsmen were ready for work on the temple (1 Chron. 27:1-28:21). Listen to God for practical details in ministry with wholehearted devotion, willing mind and pure motives.

Receive Wealth and Power from Great God
People rejoiced at the willing response of their leaders who gave freely and wholeheartedly. David praised the greatness, power, glory and majesty of God. Jesus exalted Himself as head over God's kingdom and ruler over all things. Wealth, honor, strength, power and everything came from Him. They gave only what came from God's hand. The abundance for building the temple came and belonged to Him. David gave it willingly with honest intent. The next day they made sacrifices and presented burnt and drink offerings to Him. The Lord highly exalted Solomon and bestowed royal splendor while Israel obeyed and submitted to him. David died having enjoyed long life, wealth and honor (1 Chron. 29:1-30). Receive wealth and power from the great and majestic God who rules everything.

Word-Inspired Corporate Prayer Extends Your Sphere of Influence (Insights in Psalms)

"Scripture calls us to pray for many things: for all saints ; for all men; for kings and all rulers; for all who are in adversity; for the sending forth of laborers; for those who labor in the gospel; for all converts; for believers who have fallen into sin; for one another in our immediate circles" (Andrew Murray).

Word-inspired worship music creates atmosphere to seek the Lord and His strength as you remember God's covenant. Corporate prayer empowers the proclamation of His reign among the nations as you redeem His disciples for kingdom rule. Trust in the Holy Spirit and obey God to extend your sphere of influence.

Follow God's Word in Worshiping Him through Music
After David constructed buildings for himself in Jerusalem, he pitched a tent for the ark of God. He said Levites carried and ministered before the ark forever. David assembled all Israel and called together the descendants of Aaron and the Levites. He summoned Zadok and Abiathar the priests and several heads of Levitical families to consecrate themselves and bring the ark to the place David prepared. God's anger broke out because they did not inquire how to do it in the prescribed way. The priests and Levites consecrated themselves to carry the ark with poles as Moses commanded. The Levites appointed singers to sing joyful songs accompanied by musical instruments. Kenaniah was in charge of singing because he was skillful at it. Because God helped the Levites carrying the ark, seven bulls and seven rams were sacrificed along with shouts, rams' horns and trumpets, cymbals and playing of lyres and harps. Michal despised David when she saw him dancing and celebrating (1 Chron. 15:1-29). Follow God's word in worshiping Him with all your heart through music.

Seek the Lord and His Strength By Remembering His Covenant
They set the ark inside the tent David pitched while presenting burnt and fellowship offerings. He gave a loaf of bread and cake of dates and raisins to each Israelite. Some Levites made petition, gave thanks and praised the Lord. Some played the lyresa and harps, Asaph sounded the trumpets and Benaiah and Jahaziel the priests blew the trumpets regularly before the ark. David committed to Asaph this psalm of thanks to the Lord. Call on his name and make known among the nations what He did. Sing praise to Him, tell of His wonderful acts and glory in His holy name. Let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice. Look to the Lord and His strength; seek His face always. Remember His wonders, miracles and judgments. God made a covenant to Abraham and confirmed it with Isaac and Jacob. He gave the land of Canaan for their inheritance. God allowed no man to oppress them and rebuked kings for their sake (1 Chron. 16:1-22). Seek the Lord and His strength by remembering God's miracles and His covenant with Abraham.

Pray Corporately to Empower Proclamation
All the earth would sing to the Lord and proclaim His salvation every day. Declare His glory among the nations and His marvelous deeds among all peoples. For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise to be feared above all gods or idols of the nations. His dwelling place contains strength and joy. Ascribe to the Lord glory due His name. Worship the Lord in the splendor of His holiness. Let people and all creation say among the nations, "The Lord reigns!" God's love endures forever. Cry out to God our Savior to save and deliver us from the nations so we may give thanks to His holy name and glory in His praise. David left Asaph and his associates before the ark to minister their regularly according to each day's requirements. He left gatekeeper Obed-Edom and his 68 associates to minister with them. He left Zadok the priest and fellow priests before the Lord's tabernacle at the high place in Gibeon to present burnt offerings regularly according to the Law (1 Chron. 16:23-43). Pray corporately to empower the proclamation of God's glory, salvation, reign and love among the nations.

Let God Build His Disciples for Kingdom Rule
David told Nathan he lived in a cedar palace while the ark was under a tent. God told Nathan that David was not the one to build Him a house to live in. God moved from one tent site to another and never asked any leader to build Him a house of cedar. God said He took David from tending sheep to be ruler over Israel. He was with him wherever David went and cut off his enemies. God made his name great, provided a place for Israel and planted them in a home of their own without disturbance. Wicked people would not oppress them. The Lord built a house for him, raised up his son to establish his kingdom, build a house for God and establish His throne forever. He would set him over His house, His kingdom and His throne to be established forever (1 Chron. 17:1-15). Let God build His disciples for kingdom rule from His throne forever.

Pray that God Defeats Nations and Redeems His People
David humbled himself before God in prayer saying He honored His servant as the most exalted of men. He made known His promises as an incomparable God who redeemed Israel for Himself. He made a name for Himself, performed great wonders, drove out nations and redeemed Israel from Egypt. David prayed that God's promise about His house be established forever so His name would be great forever. Men would then say the Lord Almighty was Israel's God. He revealed to David that He would build a house for him (1 Chron. 17:16-27). Pray that God defeats nations and redeems His people forever.

Trust in Holy Spirit and Obey God for Spiritual Victory to Extend Sphere of Influence
David defeated the Philistines and Moabites who became subject to him. He fought Hadadezer king Zobah and established his control along the Euphrates River. David captured 1,000 of his chariots, 7,000 charioteers and 20,000 foot soldiers. The Lord gave David victory everywhere he went. David took the gold shields and bronze used by Solomon to make articles and brought them to Jerusalem. Hadoram brought varieties of gold, silver and bronze after hearing David defeated the army of Hadadezer. David dedicated these articles to the Lord, reigned over all Israel  and did what was just and right for all his people (1 Chron. 18:1-17). Trust in the Holy Spirit and obey God to extend your sphere of influence.

Call upon God to do the following things:
  • Follow God's word in worshiping Him
  • Seek the Lord and His strength by remembering His covenant
  • Pray corporately to empower the proclamation of God's reign among the nations
  • Let God build His disciples for kingdom rule
  • Pray that God defeats nations and redeems His people
  • Trust in the Holy Spirit and obey God to extend your sphere of influence

Do God's Agenda and Not Your Own (Insights in Psalms)

"Try to give your agenda to God. Keep saying, 'Your will be done, not mine.' Give every part of your heart and your time to God and let God tell you what to do, where to go, when and how to respond. God does not want you to destroy yourself. Exhaustion, burnout, and depression are not signs that you are doing God's will. God is gentle and loving. God desires to give you a deep sense of safety in God's love. Once you have allowed yourself to experience that love fully, you will be better able to discern who you are being sent to in God's name " (Henri J. M. Nouwen).

In order to do God's agenda and not your own, learn delegation; beware of disobedience to God; rely on Him and your supporters; equip culturally-sensitive leaders; beware of following men's counsel and not God's; and obey His strategy at each stage.

Delegate Responsibilities to Diverse People
Descendants of Benjamin were listed including Shaharaim who divorced his wives Hushim and Baara. The sons of Ulam were brave warriors who handled the bow. Judah was taken captivity to Babylon because of their unfaithfulness. The priests were able men responsible for ministering in the house of God. Gatekeepers were assigned to their positions by David and Samuel. Their brothers shared duties for seven-day periods, spent the night guarding the house of God and opening it each morning. They entrusted the Levites, four principal gatekeepers, with responsibility for its rooms and treasuries. Others took charge of the articles, furnishings, flour, wine, oil, incense and spices used in the temple service. Musicians were exempt from other duties since they were responsible for the work day and night (1 Chron. 8:1-9:44). Delegate responsibilities to diverse people who labor faithfully everyday.

Understand How Disobedience to God's Word Causes Death
A wounded Saul took his own life by falling on his sword. The Philistines killed his three sons, including Jonathan. They put Saul's armor in the temple of their gods and hung up his head in the temple of Dagon. Saul's unfaithfulness to God caused his death by not keeping His word, consulting a medium for guidance and not inquiring of the Lord. His kingdom was turned over to David (1 Chron. 10:1-14). Understand how disobedience to God's word by following human guidance causes spiritual and physical death.

Rely on God and Those Providing Support to Extend Your Sphere of Influence
All Israel came together to anoint David king as the Lord promised through Samuel. He conquered Jerusalem and made Joab commander because he led the attack on the Jebusites. David became more powerful because the Lord Almighty was with him. His mighty men provided strong support to extend his kingship over the whole land. Three of the 30 chiefs came to David at the cave of Adullam when he longed for water. The Three broke through the Philistine lines but he refused to drink because they risked their lives to bring the water. Abishai, brother of Joab and chief of the Three, killed 300 men with his spear, Benaiah struck down two of Moab's best men and killed a lion. He snatched the spear from a 7 1/2 foot tall Egyptian and killed him with his own spear. Other mighty men were listed (1 Chron. 11:1-47). Rely on God and those providing support to extend your sphere of influence.

Equip Unified, Culturally-Sensitive Leaders for Spiritual Battle
Warriors armed with bows and arrows helped David in battle at Ziklag when he was banished from Saul's presence. Eleven brave warriors from Gad prepared for battle with shield and spear defected to David at his stronghold in the desert. Their faces were like lions and as swift as gazelles. As army commanders, they put to flight everyone living in the valleys. The Spirit through Amasai, chief of the Thirty, said they and God were to help David achieve success as leaders of his raiding bands. Brave warriors from Manasseh helped David until he had a great and mighty army.  A list of volunteer fighting men from every tribe armed for battle came to David in Hebron with one mind to make him king over all Israel. Men of Issachar understood the times and knew what Israel should do. Experienced soldiers of Zebulun with every type of weapon helped David with undivided loyalty. Men of Naphtali carried shields and spears. The men spent three days with David eating and drinking because their families supplied provision. Neighbors from Issachar, Zebulun and Naphtali brought food and provisions on animals (1 Chron. 12:1-40). Equip unified, culturally-sensitive leaders for spiritual battle who know the appropriate actions to take.

Beware of Following Men's Counsel and Not God's
After David consulted with the commanders, he gathered the priests and Levites to bring back the ark of God from Kiriath Jearim. The whole assembly agreed to do it because it seemed right to all the people. They moved the ark of God from Abinadab's house on a new cart. David and all the Israelites celebrated with all their might before God using instruments. Uzzah died after steadying the ark when the oxen stumbled. David became angry, afraid of God's wrath and wondered how to bring the ark to him.  God blessed the house of Obed-Edom where the ark remained for three months (1 Chron. 13:1-14). Beware of following men's counsel and not God's that causes disaster.

Ask God for Direction and Obey His Strategy at Each Stage
Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers, cedar logs, stonemasons and carpenters to build a palace for David. He knew the Lord established and exalted him as king over Israel for the sake of His people. David took more wives and became the father of more sons and daughters. David inquired of God whether to attack the Philistines when they raided the Valley of Rephaim. When God said He would defeat them, David and his men went to Baal Perazim. The defeated Philistines abandoned their gods and David gave orders to burn them. The next time the Philistines raided the valley, God told David to circle and attack them in front of the balsam trees. He moved out to battle after hearing the sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees meaning  God went in front to strike the Philistine army. When David obeyed God's command, they defeated them from Gibeon to Gezer. David's fame spread throughout the land and the Lord made every nation fear him (1 Chron. 14:1-17). Ask God for direction and obey His strategy at each stage in the spiritual battle.

How to Do God's Agenda and Not Your Own:
1. Delegate responsibilities to diverse people who labor faithfully everyday
2. Understand how disobedience to God's word by following human guidance causes spiritual and physical death
3. Rely on God and those providing support to extend your sphere of influence

4. Equip unified, culturally-sensitive leaders for spiritual battle who know the appropriate actions to take

5. Beware of following men's counsel and not God's that causes disaster
6. Ask God for direction and obey His strategy at each stage in the spiritual battle.

How to Rule in Your Sphere of Influence as God's Friend (Insights in Psalms)

2/17/2013

Picture
We have a great challenge to meet the spiritual hunger of those under 40 where 3% are Christians who reflect Christ (51% are unbelievers) compared to  9% of those over 40 who are Christians that reflect Christ.

In the first chapter 1 Chronicles, the writer lists a genealogy highlighting the descendants of Abraham who ruled in his sphere of influence as a friend of God (James 2:23). In 1 Chron. 2-7, the writer tells how to rule in your sphere of influence as God's friend.

Rule in Your Sphere of Influence as God's Friend
Historical records listed the sons of Adam and Noah including Shem, Ham and Japheth. Descendants of Japheth included Gomer, Magog and Tarshish. Descendants of Ham included Cush, Canaan, Nimrod, a mighty warrior on earth, Philistines, Sidon, Hittites and Jebusites. The descendants of Shem included Meshech, Terah and Abram whose sons were Isaac and Ishmael. The descendants of Hagar (Ishmael), Keturah and Sarah were listed. The descendants of the Edomites included the people of Seir and rulers of Edom before any Israelite king reigned (1 Chron. 1:1-54). Rule in your sphere of influence as God's friend.

Live in Purity Without Worldly Compromise
The sons of Israel included Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun, Dan, Joseph, Benjamin, Napthali, Gad and Asher. The sons of Judah included Er, born to him by a Canaanite woman, wicked in God's sight and put to death. Tamar, Judah's daughter, bore him Perez and Zerah. One descendant was Achan who brought disaster on Israel by violating the ban on taking devoted things at Ai. Other descendants of Judah were Boaz, Jesse and David. David's sister had three sons including Abishai, Joab and Asahel. Another sister was the mother of Amasa. Caleb's descendants included Gilead, Jair, Geshur and Aram who controlled 23 towns in Gilead and 60 in Havvoth Jair and Kenath. The descendants of Jerahmeel first-born son of Hezron included Ram, Nadab, Nathan, Jehu and Azariah. The clans of Caleb included Hebron, Shammai, Kiriath and  Jearim leading to the descendants of Zorathites and Kenites (1 Chron. 2:1-55). Live in purity without worldly compromise.

Live in Purity Without Sexual Sin
The sons of David were Amnon from Ahinoam, Daniel from Abigail, Absalom from Maacah daughter of Talmai king of Geshur, Adonijah from Haggith, Shephatiah from Abital, Ithream from Eglah. These six were born to David in Hebron where he reigned seven years and six months. Children born to him in Jerusalem where he reigned 33 years were Shammua, Shobab, Nathan and Solomon from Bathsheba. Nine additional sons were born to David besides others by his concubines. Tamar was their sister. From Solomon's son Rehoboam, the kings of Judah included Abijah, Asa, Jehoshaphat, Jehoram, Ahaziah, Joash, Amaziah, Azariah, Jotham, Ahaz, Hezekiah, Manasseh, Amon and Josiah. The sons of Josiah were Johanan, Jehoiakim, Zedekiah and Shallum. The successors of Jehoiakim were Jehoiachin and Zedekiah. The royal line after the exile included the descendants of Jehoiachin and Pedaiah. The sons of Pedaiah were Zerubbabel and Shimei. A descendant of Zerubbabel was Obadiah (1 Chron. 3:1-24). Live in purity without sexual sin.

Ask God to Bless and Enlarge Your Sphere of Influence
A descendant of Judah included Jabez who was more honorable that his brothers because he cried out that God would bless him with enlarged territory so His hand be on him to keep him from harm and pain. God answered his prayer. Other descendants included Othniel and Joab whose children became the valley of craftsmen. Another descendant married Pharaoh's daughter Bithiah. Clans of linen workers came from Beth Ashbea. Joash were among others who ruled in Moab. They were potters who worked for the king. The descendants of Simeon were not as numerous as the people of Judah. They lived in Beersheba and Ziklag among other towns until David's reign. Leaders of clans were listed whose families increased greatly. They went to the outskirts of Gedor and found rich, good pasture in spacious and peaceful land during Hezekiah's reign. They attacked and completely destroyed the Hamites and Meunites. They settled in their place because there was pasture for their flocks. They killed the remaining Amalekites who had escaped in Seir (1 Chron. 4:1-43).  Ask God to bless and enlarge your sphere of influence with His hand on you to prevent harm and pain.

Train Believers in Purity and Spiritual Warfare
Reuben's rights as firstborn were given to the sons of Joseph because he defiled his father's marriage bed. Assyria's king took Beerah, leader of the Reubenites, into exile. The descendants of Gad lived next to them in Bashan, Gilead and outlying villages. The Reubenites, Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh had 44,760 able-bodied men ready for military service who  handled shield, sword and bow while trained for battle during Saul's reign. They were helped in fighting them and God handed the Hagrites and their allies over to them because they cried out to Him during the battle. God answered their prayers because they trusted in Him. They took 100,000 people captive with others killed because the battle was God's. They occupied the land until the exile. The half-tribe of Manasseh were brave warriors, famous men and heads of families but were unfaithful to God. They prostituted themselves to the gods of the peoples of the land whom God had destroyed. Assyria took Reuben, Gad and half-tribe of Manasseh into exile (1 Chron. 5:1-26). Train believers in purity and spiritual warfare not to compromise with the world's false gods.

Discover Mentors in Major Cities Through Corporate Prayer
The sons of Levi were Gershon, Kohath and Merari. Kohath's grandchildren through Amran were Aaron, Moses and Miriam. Other descendants of Kohath were Amminadab, Korah, Elkanah, his son, Samuel, and Uzziah.
David's men were listed that he put in charge of the music before the tabernacle until Solomon built the temple. From the Kohathites were Heman, the musician, and his associate, Asaph, who served at his right hand and the Merarites at his left hand. Their fellow Levites were assigned to other tabernacle duties. Aaron and his descendants presented offerings on the altar of burnt offering and on the altar of incense in connection with the Most Holy Place making atonement for Israel. The descendants of Aaron were given Hebron and Shechem (cities of refuge) and parcels of land from the other tribes (1 Chron. 6:1-81). Discover mentors in major cities through corporate prayer who are surrendered to God.

Equip Ambassadors Prepared for Spiritual Battle
The genealogical record for Issachar had 22,600 fighting men from Tola's descendants, 36,000 men ready for battle from sons of Izahiah and 87,000 total relatives as fighting men. The genealogical record for Benjamin listed 22,034 fighting men from sons of Bela, 20,200 fighting men from sons of Beker and 17,2000 fighting men ready for war from sons of Bilhan. The sons  of Naphtali, Manasseh and Ephraim were listed. Ezer and Elead were killed by men of Gath when they seized their livestock. Ephraim mourned many days and gave birth to another son named Beriah, because of his family's misfortune. His daughter built the Lower and Upper Beth Horon and Uzzen Sheerah. Their lands and settlements included Bethel and its surrounding villages. The descendants of Asher were listed including heads of families, choice men, brave warriors and outstanding leaders with 26,000 men ready for battle (1 Chron. 7:1-40). Equip ambassadors prepared for spiritual battle and persecution.

The following explains how to rule in your sphere of influence as God's friend:
1. Live in purity without worldly compromise
2. Live in purity without sexual immorality
3. Ask God to bless and enlarge your sphere of service with His hand on you to prevent harm and pain
4. Train believers in purity and spiritual warfare not to compromise with the world's false gods
