To see prosperity and influence, one must acknowledge God's reign, confess sins, exalt Him, humble yourself, trust His sovereignty and protection, and worship the King of Kings. Then God's kingdom will come in His time to remove prideful leaders and enable you to endure trials.

Acknowledge God's Reign and Confess Sins
Daniel revealed to Nebuchadnezzar in his dream that he was the large tree   in the middle of the land with abundant fruit where beasts found shelter. His dominion extended to the distant parts of the earth. The Most High issued a decree to drive Nebuchadnezzar away from people, be drenched with dew and given the mind of an animal to eat grass like cattle. Seven times would pass until he acknowledged the Most High as sovereign over men's kingdom given to whoever He wished.  The iron and bronze roots remaining in the ground represented his kingdom being restored when he acknowledged that Heaven ruled. Daniel told Nebuchadnezzar to renounce his sins by doing right and being kind to the oppressed so his prosperity would continue (Dan. 4:1-27). Acknowledge God's reign and confess sins for prosperity.

Exalt God and Humble Yourself
Twelve months later the king said his mighty power built the royal residence for his glory.  A voice from heaven said the dream would be fulfilled with his royal authority taken away. At the end of that time, God restored Nebuchadnezzar's sanity and returned the honor and splendor of his kingdom. God's dominion and kingdom endured across generations. Every person was regarded as nothing with God doing as He pleased. His advisers sought him out and restored his throne greater than before. Nebuchadnezzar praised, exalted and glorified the King of heaven because everything He did was right and His ways were just. He humbled those who walked in pride (Dan. 4:28-37). Exalt God and humble yourself for influence.

Trust God's Sovereignty to Remove Prideful Leaders
While Belshazzar gave a banquet for 1000 nobles, drank wine and praised the gods of gold and silver, a human hand wrote on the wall terrifying the king. Daniel said God gave his father Nebuchadnezzar a high position but when his heart became arrogant and prideful, he was stripped of his glory and lived with animals until he acknowledged Him as sovereign over the kingdoms of men. Because Belshazzar set himself against the Lord of heaven, the writing said God numbered the days of his reign, found wanting and his kingdom was given to the Medes and Persians. Daniel was proclaimed the third highest ruler in the kingdom. Belshazzar was killed and Darius the Mede took over the kingdom (Dan. 5:1-31). Trust God's sovereignty to remove prideful rulers.

Trust God's Protection to Endure Trials
Darius appointed Daniel as one of the three administrators over 120 satraps. Because he distinguished himself by his exceptional qualities, the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom. No one could find corruption since he was trustworthy and not negligent. Even though a decree said no one could worship any god except the king, Daniel prayed three times a day with the windows opened toward Jerusalem. After being thrown in the lion's den, Darius called out anxiously to determine if Daniel's God was able to rescue him from the lions. He answered that the angels shut the lions' mouths finding no wound because he trusted in God. He threw the false accusers in the lions' den along with their wives and children. Darius issued a decree that everyone must fear the living God of Daniel whose kingdom and dominion never ended. He prospered during the reign of Darius and Cyrus the Persian (Dan. 6:1-28). Trust God's protection while enduring trials.

Worship King of Kings Whose Kingdom Continues Forever
In a dream, Daniel saw four great beasts. The first was like a lion with wings of an eagle, second like a bear with three ribs in its mouth, third like a leopard with four wings like a bird and four heads given authority to rule, and a fourth powerful beast with large iron teeth that devoured its victims along with ten horns. A little horn uprooted three of the first horns that spoke boastfully about the Ancient of Days sitting on His throne flaming with fire where countless number stood before Him and the books opened. The beast was killed and thrown into the blazing fire. Others were stripped of their authority but allowed to live for a period of time. One like the son of man approached the Ancient of Days and given authority, glory and sovereign power with men of every language worshiping him. His dominion would never be destroyed (Dan. 7:1-14). Worship King of Kings and Lord of Lords whose kingdom continues forever.

Expect God's Kingdom Coming to Earth in His Time
Daniel interpreted the four great beasts as four kingdoms rising from the earth. The saints of the Most High would possess the kingdom forever. He saw the horn waging war and defeating the saints until the Ancient of Days pronounced judgment in favor of the saints when the time came to possess the kingdom. The fourth beast was the fourth kingdom that devoured and crushed the earth. The ten horns were ten kings coming from this kingdom with one subduing three kings. He spoke against the Most High, oppressed His saints, tried to change laws and had saints handed over to him for 3 1/2 years. His power was destroyed and God's kingdom given to the saints eternally with every ruler worshiping and obeying Him (Dan. 7:15-28). Expect God's kingdom coming to earth in His time.

Pray for God's kingdom to come on earth as it is in heaven to experience prosperity and influence.

The following describe how to choose spiritual leaders who practice and teach God's word:
1. Follow God's Word to form an intimate relationship with Him as you surrender and confess your sins daily to God
2. Experience God's glory as you pray together to bear fruit-bearing disciples that heal people in all nations through the Holy Spirit
3. Follow God's word in organizing how the body of Christ prays together to let Christ have first place in the church and city

Follow God's Word in Organizing How the Body of Christ Prays Together
Ezekiel saw a wall surrounding the temple area. A man measured from the east gate to the outer court including the wall; threshold of the gate; alcoves for the guard; portico, width of the entrance and projecting walls inside the gateway. He measured the outer court from the inside of the lower gateway to the outside of the inner court. He measured the north gate, south gate and gates to the inner court. In the portico of the gateway contained two tables where burnt, sin, and guilt offerings were slaughtered. Outside the inner gate within the inner court were two rooms for Levites, sons of Zadok, in charge of the temple and altar (Ezek. 40:1-47). Follow God's word in organizing how the body of Christ prays together.

Experience God's Glory as You Pray Together
The man measured the temple including the portico, entrance, projecting walls, and outer and inner sanctuary, considered the Most Holy Place. On the doors of the outer sanctuary were carved cherubim and palm trees like those carved on the walls. The north and south rooms facing the temple courtyard were the priests' rooms where they ate the grain, sin and guilt offerings. They did not go into the outer court until they left behind their ministry garments. He measured inside the temple area along with the east, north, south and west side. A wall separated the holy from the common. Ezekiel saw the glory of the God of Israel enter the temple through the gate facing east. His voice was like the roar of rushing waters and the land was radiant with His glory. The Spirit lifted and brought him into the inner court and God's glory filled the temple (Ezek. 40:48-43:5). Experience God's glory as you pray together in the body of Christ.

Follow God's Word to Form an Intimate Relationship with Him
A man inside the temple said this was the place of his throne and for the soles of his feet to live among the Israelites forever. They never again defiled His holy name by spiritual adultery and idols so that God could live among them forever. The man described the temple so Ezekiel could share it with Israel in order for them to be ashamed of their sins. Ezekiel wrote down the design of the temple and measurements of the altar, its arrangements, exits, entrances, regulations and laws so they could follow the plan. God told him the regulations for sacrificing burnt offerings and sprinkling blood on the altar. A young bull would be burned in the designated part of the  temple area as a sin offering by the Levites, of the family of Zadok.  Ezekiel put blood on the four horns of the altar, four corners of the upper ledge and around the rim to purify and make atonement for it. On the second day, he offered a male goat without defect for a sin offering with the altar purified. For seven days he offered a male goat daily for a sin offering to be accepted by God. From the eighth day on, the priests presented the burnt and fellowship offerings on the altar (Ezek. 43:6-27). Follow God's word to form a pure, surrendered and intimate relationship with Him among His people.

Choose Spiritual Leaders Who Practice and Teach God's Word
The outer gate of the sanctuary remained shut because the God of Israel entered through it. The prince entered and left by the portico of the gateway. Ezekiel saw God's glory filling the temple. He told Ezekiel to listen closely concerning the temple's regulations regarding its entrance and sanctuary exits. Rebellious Israel brought uncircumcised foreigners in heart and flesh into God's sanctuary. They put others in charge of it. Levites who worshiped idols bore sin's consequences by not coming near to serve as priests or with the holy offerings. Descendants of Zadok who faithfully carried out their duties could enter the inner court and minister before God wearing linen clothes, turbans and undergarments. They taught His people the difference between the holy and the common and distinguish between the unclean and clean. The priests judge disputes according to God's ordinances (Ezek. 44:1-31). Choose spiritual leaders who practice and teach God's word to others.

Surrender and Confess Your Sins Daily to God
They assigned the Most Holy Place to part of the land as the sacred portion for the priests and an adjoining portion for Israel. God told them to use accurate scales. One sheep was taken from every flock of 200 for grain, burnt and fellowship offerings to make atonement for Israel. The prince provided sin, burnt, grain, drink and fellowship offerings. The priest used blood of the sin offering on the temple doorposts, four corners of upper ledge of the altar and gateposts of the inner court. A sin offering was done on the seventh day of the month for anyone who sinned unintentionally or through ignorance. On the Sabbath, the inner court gate was opened for the priest to sacrifice the burnt (six male lambs and a ram without defect) and fellowship offerings while the people worshiped in God's presence at the entrance. Every day a year-old lamb without defect and a grain offering (sixth of an ephah with a third of a hin of oil to moisten the flour) was sacrificed as a regular burnt offering. Ezekiel saw the sacred rooms where the priests cooked the guilt and sin offerings and baked the grain offerings. He saw the kitchens in the outer court where they cooked the sacrifices of the people (Ezek. 45:1-46:24). Surrender and confess your sins daily to God so you can prepare spiritual people.

Bear Fruit-Bearing Disciples that Heal People in All Nations
Ezekiel saw water coming from under the threshold of the temple. While measuring the temple, the water went from ankle-deep to deep enough for swimming so no one could cross. Water became fresh when it emptied into the Dead Sea revealing large numbers of living fish with fishermen standing from En Gedi to En Eglaim spreading nets. The leaves on fruit trees did not wither or fruit that grew on both banks of the river remained because water flowed from the sanctuary. Their fruit was served for food and the leaves for healing. God revealed the boundaries of the land divided as an inheritance among the twelve tribes of Israel. It ran from the Mediterranean Sea, Damascus, along Jordan and Wadi of Egypt. Aliens with children were considered as native-born Israelites (Ez. 47:1-23). Bear fruit-bearing disciples that heal people in all nations through the Holy Spirit.

Let Christ Have First Place in Church and City
The twelve tribes and their boundaries were listed. Bordering Judah from east to west was a sacred portion with the sanctuary in the center for the consecrated priests, the Zadokites who were faithful in serving God. The priests had territory in the best of the land holy to the Lord. The remaining area was for common use of the city including houses and pastureland to supply food for the workers. What remained on both sides of the area formed by the sacred portion and city property belonged to the prince between  the border of Judah and Benjamin. The exits of the city had gates named after the tribes of Israel. The name of the city was the Lord is there (Ez. 48:1-35). Let Christ have first place in the life of the church and city.

Rate yourself on a scale of 1 to 10 with one being the lowest and ten the highest for the following statements:
1. I surrender daily to God through unceasing prayer
2. I confess my sins daily to God
3. I pray with others
4. I am committed to applying God's word to my life
5. I rely on the power of the Holy Spirit
6. I teach God's word to others
7. I am committed to making disciples
8. I work with a team to see the church pray together across racial and denominational lines so Christ can have first place in the city

Ingredients in Building Up Body of Christ (Insights in Psalms)

Picture
The ingredients in building up the body of Christ include purity (confession of  sin), unity (worship and fellowship), service (seeking and obeying God), prayer (victory), humility (restoration and deliverance), study (full counsel of God) and obedience (light burden).

Purify Body of Christ By Confessing Sin
Hezekiah repaired the temple doors, told the Levites to consecrate themselves and removed defilement from the temple. The unfaithfulness to God and not burning incense or presenting offerings made them an object of scorn causing their families to be in captivity. The Levites served, ministered and burned incense to purify the entire temple with its altar of burnt offering, table and all its articles as they followed God's word for 16 days. Hezekiah gathered the city officials and went to the temple. He commanded the priests to offer seven each of bulls, rams, male lambs and male goats as a sin offering for the kingdom, sanctuary and Judah. They sprinkled their blood on the altar to atone for all Israel. He stationed Levites in the temple with cymbals, harps and lyres in the way prescribed by David. They praised the Lord with gladness and thank offerings. The service of the temple was reestablished with 600 bulls and 3000 sheep and goats sacrificed (2 Chron. 29:1-36). Purify the body of Christ as each member confesses sin.

Spend Time in Unity for Worship and Fellowship
Hezekiah invited Israel, Judah, Ephraim and Manasseh to celebrate the Passover in large numbers with letters sent by couriers. People returned to the God of Abraham by submitting to Him and coming back to the land because of His compassion. Many people scorned and ridiculed the couriers but some men of Asher, Manasseh and Zebulun humbled themselves and went to Jerusalem. In Judah, God's hand gave them unity of mind to obey what the king and his officials ordered in following God's word. Hekekiah prayed that God would pardon those who did not purify themselves but set their heart on seeking Him. He heard Hezekiah and healed the people. The Israelites celebrated the Feast of Unleavened Bread for seven days while the Levites sang with instruments of praise and fellowship offerings. The whole assemble agreed to celebrate the festival seven more days while Hezekiah and the officials provided a 2000 bulls and 17000 sheep and goats. Their prayer reached heaven, His holy dwelling place (2 Chron. 30:1-27).  Spend time in unity for worship and fellowship as the body of Christ.

Serve Body of Christ By Seeking and Obeying God
When the festival ended, the Israelites smashed the sacred stones, cut down the Asherah poles and destroyed the high places and altars in cities of Judah, Benjamin, Ephraim and Manasseh. Hezekiah assigned the priests and Levites to divisions according to their duties to offer burnt and fellowship offerings, minister and sing praises at the gates of the Lord's dwelling. The king contributed and ordered people living in Jerusalem to give the portion due the priests and Levites so they could devote themselves to the Law of the Lord. The Israelites, including Israel and Judah, generously gave the firstfruits what their fields produced. The tithe of their herds and flocks was dedicated to the Lord and piled in heaps. The surplus was put in storerooms and  distributed to fellow priests including the little ones, wives, sons and daughters of the whole community. In everything Hezekiah undertook in serving God's temple by obeying His commands, he sought God, worked wholeheartedly and prospered (2 Chron. 31:1-21). Serve body of Christ by seeking God, obeying His commands and working wholeheartedly.

Cry to God to Defeat Your Spiritual Enemies
Sennacherib king of Assyria laid siege to Judah's fortified cities to conquer them for himself. Hezekiah consulted with his officials and blocked water from the springs outside the city. They repaired, built a new one and reinforced the broken sections of the wall and Jerusalem's supporting terraces. They made large numbers of weapons and shields. Hezekiah appointed military officers over the people and encouraged them to be strong, courageous and not fear because of God's greater power to fight their battles compared to Assyria's arm of flesh. The people gained confidence from what Hezekiah said. Sennacherib asked what they were basing their confidence upon since Hezekiah's misleading statements would result in death from hunger and thirst since other nations' gods failed to deliver. Hezekiah and Isaiah cried out in prayer to heaven and the Lord sent an angel who annihilated Sennacherib's army before his own sons killed him. Hezekiah became highly regarded by all nations. His heart became proud and did not respond to kindness after an illness nearly killed him. Hezekiah repented of his pride along with the people so God's wrath did not come during his days (2 Chron. 32:1-33). Cry to God confidently trusting Him to defeat your spiritual enemies.

Humble Yourself to Experience Restoration
Manasseh followed the evil practices of the nations, rebuild the high places his father Hezekiah demolished, sacrificed his sons in the fire, practiced sorcery and consulted mediums. He led Judah and Jerusalem astray so they did more evil than the nations the Lord destroyed before the Israelites. After Assyria took Manasseh prisoner, he sought God's favor and humbled himself greatly so He brought him back to Jerusalem. He rebuild the outer wall of Jerusalem making it higher and  stationed military commanders in all the fortified cities in Judah. He removed the foreign gods, image and altars from the temple. He restored the altar of the Lord and sacrificed fellowship and thanking offerings on it. Manasseh's son, Amon, did not humble himself before the Lord but increased his guilt. His officials conspired and assassinated him in his palace (2 Chron. 33:1-25). Humble yourself in the midst of sin to experience God's grace, restoration and deliverance.

Study Full Counsel of God
Josiah sought God, tore down the altars of Baal and crushed the idols while repairing and restoring the temple. They gave money to the carpenters and builders to purchase dressed stone, timber for joists and beams for the buildings that Judah's kings allowed to fall in ruin. The men worked faithfully and the Levites skilled in playing musical instruments supervised all the workers from job to job with some as secretaries, scribes and doorkeepers. Hilkiah the priest found the Book of the Law given through Moses. When Josiah heard the words of the Law, he tore his robes and called together all Judah's and Jerusalem's elders. Every person from the least to the greatest heard all the words of the Book of the Covenant. Josiah and the people renewed the covenant to obey all God's commands with all their heart and soul. He removed all the evil idols belonging to the Israelites so they could serve and follow the Lord (2 Chron. 34:1-33). Study the full counsel of God with all your heart and soul to serve and follow the Lord.

Obey God's Word Completely
Josiah celebrated the Passover and encouraged priests to serve the Lord's temple. He told the Levites who instructed Israel not to carry the ark on their shoulders but serve the Lord by standing in the holy place doing what the Lord commanded through Moses for their fellow countrymen. Josiah provided from his own possessions 30000 sheep and goats and 3000 cattle for the Passover offerings to support the lay people. They set aside the burnt offerings as written in the Book of Moses. The musicians, descendants of Asaph, were in the places prescribed by David. The gatekeepers did not leave their posts because fellow Levites made preparations for them. The Passover had not been observed like this in Israel since Samuel. Later Jerusalem fell when the Babylonian king spared no one. They set fire to God's temple, broke down Jerusalem's wall and burned the palaces. Nebuchadnezzar carried the remnant into exile to Babylon until Persia came to power. The land enjoyed Sabbath rests until 70 years were completed in fulfillment of  God's word through Jeremiah. Cyrus king of Persia made a proclamation saying God gave him all the kingdoms of the earth and appointed him to build a temple at Jerusalem (2 Chron. 35:1-36:23). Obey God's word completely so your yoke is easy and burden light.

Study and pray through Eph. 4:1-13.

Obedience in Building God's Kingdom (Insights in  Psalms)

1/9/2013

Picture
John Stott wrote that "greatness in the kingdom of God is measured in terms of obedience."

Building God's kingdom is all about obedience. It begins with people who have hearts for God who use their spiritual gifts and finances to build God's kingdom. Next, praise, build foundations in God's word, resist ungodly partnerships, teach a biblical worldview, confess sin and apply His word in all of life, especially marriage.

Mobilize People to Build God's Kingdom
Jeremiah moved the heart of Cyrus king of Persia in his first year to build a temple for God in Jerusalem. Cyrus said for everyone  to provide silver, gold, goods, livestock and freewill offerings. Family heads of Judah and Benjamin, priests and Levites with hearts for God would build the house of Lord in Jerusalem with assistance of their neighbors. Cyrus brought out articles that Nebuchadnezzar had carried from Jerusalem. Ezra listed men and Israelites taken captive to Babylon who returned to their towns in Judah with Zerubbabel, Nehemiah and others. They included men of Israel and Bethlehem, priests, Levites, singers, descendants of Asaph, gatekeepers of the temple, temple servants and descendants of Solomon's servants. Those excluded from the priesthood because they had no family record could not eat sacred food until a priest ministered with the Urim and Thummim. Some heads of families gave freewill offerings and according to their ability gave toward rebuilding the house of God (Ezra 1:1-2:70). Mobilize people with hearts for God to build God's kingdom using their spiritual gifts and finances.

Praise God and Build Foundations in God's Word
People assembled as one man to build the altar of the God in sacrificing burnt offerings and celebrating the Feast of Tabernacles along with appointed feasts according to the Law of Moses. They gave money to the masons and carpenters. They gave food, drink and oil to the people of Sidon and Tyre so they could bring cedar logs by sea from Lebanon to Joppa. Zerubbabel and brothers appointed Levites 20 years of age and older to supervise the building of the house of the Lord. The priests with trumpets and Levites (sons of Asaph) with cymbals praised the Lord as prescribed by David singing "He is good; His love to Israel endures forever." The people shouted praise to the Lord because the foundation was laid. Many of the older priests and Levites who saw the former temple wept and others shouted for joy when they saw the temple's foundation laid (Ezra 3:1-13). Praise God and build foundations in God's word to preserve unity in the church.

Resist Ungodly Partnerships
The enemies of Judah and Benjamin wanted to help build the temple saying they sacrificed to God. When Zerubbabel and heads of families said they had no part, they tried to discourage and make Judah afraid by hiring counselors to work against them. They accused Judah of rebellion and not paying taxes after Jerusalem's walls were rebuilt. King Artaxerxes ordered that the work be stopped. The work resumed during the second year of King Darius of Persia (Ezra 4:1-24). Resist ungodly partnerships and accusations that seek to discourage and make you fear.

Exhort People to Build God's Kingdom
Haggai and Zechariah prophesied to the Jews in Judah and Jerusalem.  Zerubbabel rebuild the house of God with His eye watching over the elders. Officials wrote King Darius explaining why Judah was rebuilding the temple. They asked the king to verify whether Cyrus issued a decree to rebuild the house of God. Darius replied the Jews could rebuild with expenses by paid out of the royal treasury including animals given daily for the burnt offerings. Darius also asked the Jews to pray for his family. The Jewish elders prospered under the preaching of Haggai and Zechariah. They finished building the temple according to God's command and the decrees of Cyrus, Darius and Artaxerxes. They dedicated the house of God with joy, made sin offering, installed priests and Levites for the service of God, along with Passover and Feast of Unleavened Bread according to the Law of Moses (Ezra 5:1-6:22). Exhort people to build God's kingdom.

Teach a Biblical Worldview
The king granted Ezra everything he asked and arrived safely since God's hand was on them. He devoted himself to study, practice and teach God's decrees and laws in Israel. Artaxerxes allowed priests, Levites and anyone to go to Jerusalem with Ezra to inquire about Judah and Jerusalem with regard to the Law. They brought money provided by the king and peoples' freewill offerings to buy animals for sacrifices without taxation. The king instructed Ezra to appoint magistrates and judges to administer justice to those who knew God's laws and taught those who did not. Those who did not obey God's law were punished by death, confiscation of property or imprisonment. Ezra took courage and gathered Israel's leading men to go with him because God's hand was on him (Ezra 7:1-28).  Teach a biblical worldview so people obey God in all of life.

Reveal Disobedience

Ezra assembled family heads, capable men of learning among the Levites and attendants for the house of God. He answered prayer for a safe journey after fasting. They consecrated and weighed the silver, gold and articles from the king and peoples' freewill offering to the Lord. After God protected them from enemies and bandits, they sacrificed burnt and sin offerings. When Ezra heard leaders intermarried with neighboring people, he sat appalled until the evening sacrifice. In prayer, he said their sin and guilt was higher than their heads and reached to the heavens resulting in death and captivity. God gave a little relief and granted new life to rebuild the house of God, repair its ruins and gave a wall of protection in Judah and Jerusalem. Intermarriage with corrupted people showed they disregarded God's commands from the prophets. Even though God punished them less than they deserved, no one could stand in God's righteous presence (Ezra 8:1-9:15). Reveal disobedience that causes guilt, ruin and defeat.

Pray to Empower Confession and Application
Ezra's prayer, confession and weeping caused people to gather and weep too. One man said he had been unfaithful to God by marrying foreign women. He asked they  covenant before God and send away these women and children according to the counsel of Ezra and God-fearing people. Ezra put all the people under oath to do what was suggested. He continued to mourn over the exile's unfaithfulness. Within three days, all the men gathered and Ezra said they married foreign women adding to Israel's guilt. He told them to confess to the Lord, do His will and separate from their foreign wives. Ezra selected family heads to investigate the cases and listed those guilty of intermarriage (Ezra 10:1-44). Pray to empower confession of sin and application of God's word, especially in marriage

How will you obey God's word in your marriage, the building block in building up His kingdom?

Outcomes of God's Word in Discipling Nations (Insights in Prophets)

12/28/2012

Picture
Jer. 7-13 explained how to equip shepherds after God's heart to disciple nations. Jer. 14-20 explained the outcomes of God's word in discipling nations. Confess your sins, hope in God and put confidence in God's word as your joy and delight so it burns in your heart to warn the church of the devastating consequences when it forsakes Him.

Confess Your Sins and Hope in God
The Lord said to Jeremiah that Judah mourned and her cities languished with dismay, sin and backsliding during drought. He asked that God not forsake them as their Hope and Savior in distress. The Lord said His people loved to wander and punished them for their sins. He told Jeremiah not to pray for their well-being as God would not accept them. He destroyed them with sword, famine and plague. Prophets lied and told delusions from their own minds about lasting peace. Everyone perished by sword and famine they deserved. God overflowed with tears for His people who suffered a grievous wound without healing. They confessed their sin and put their hope in God who brought rain (Jer. 14:1-22). Confess your sins and hope in God to experience healing during judgment of wars, famine and plagues.

Let God's Word Be Your Joy and Delight
God destroyed Judah with death, sword, starvation and captivity because they rejected Him through constant backsliding. He made their terrified widows more numerous than the sand of the sea. He enslaved and gave their wealth as plunder without charge because of their sins. Jeremiah suffered persecution and reproach for God's sake. His words were the joy and delight of His heart as he ate them. His wound and pain were grievous and incurable. By repenting and saying worthy words, God restored Jeremiah to serve Him as His spokesman. God made him a wall of bronze so His people could turn to him. They fought against Jeremiah but God rescued and saved him from the wicked (Jer. 15:1-21). Allow God's word be your joy and delight when disobedient believers persecute you.

Make God Your Strength and Refuge
God told Jeremiah not to marry or have children because they would die by sword and famine. He withdrew blessing, love, joy and gladness from His people because their fathers worshiped other gods and followed their stubborn and evil heart instead of obeying God. He threw them in an unknown land to serve their gods without God's favor. Someday He restored them to the land He gave their forefathers. But now He repaid them double for their sins because they defiled His land with vile images and detestable idols. Nations acknowledged that God was their refuge in time of distress and their fathers possessed false and worthless idols. He taught them His power and might so they would know the Lord (Jer. 16:1-21). Make God your strength and refuge so you can teach nations to know His power too.

Place Confidence in God's Word
Judah engraved sin with a flint point on the tablets of their hearts and high places. Because of sin, they lost wealth, God's inheritance and freedom. Cursed was the one who trusted in man and depended on flesh for his strength by turning away from the Lord. He was like a bush in the wastelands not seeing prosperity when it came. He dwelled in a desert where no one lived. Blessed was the man who placed his confidence in the Lord like a tree planted by the water that sent its roots by the stream. It did not fear when heat came, its leaves were always green without worries in a year of drought and never failed to bear fruit. No one understood a deceitful heart that was beyond cure. The Lord searched the heart and examined the mind to reward a man according to his deeds. Jeremiah asked God to heal and save him. People asked where was God's word so it could be fulfilled. Jeremiah continued being His shepherd knowing that God was His refuge in the day of disaster. Unless Judah obeyed the Sabbath by not doing work, God consumed Jerusalem's fortresses (Jer. 17:1-27). Place confidence in God's word to heal deceitful hearts and desolate cities.

Continue Teaching God's Word and Call People to Confess Sin
Israel was like clay in the potter's hand. If a nation repented of evil, God did not destroy it. He reconsidered doing good if a nation disobeyed God. Jeremiah warned Judah of God bringing disaster unless they turned from their evil ways. God told Jeremiah to ask the nations if they heard anything like Israel forgetting God, worshiping worthless idols and stumbling in the ancient paths causing destruction and scorn. People attacked Jeremiah with their tongues and paid no attention when he said the priests and prophets lost the teaching of the law. Because his accusers tried to kill Jeremiah, he asked God to bring famine and death against them (Jer. 18:1-23). Continue teaching God's word and call people to confess sin reminding nations of the outcome when people disobey Him.

Warn Church of Devastating Consequences of Forsaking God
God told Jeremiah to buy a clay jar and say to Judah's kings and Jerusalem that He would bring disaster upon them because they forsook God, shed innocent blood and burned their sons on the high places of Baal without His command. God ruined their plans, killed them before their enemies and devastated Jerusalem making it an object of scorn. They ate one another's flesh during the stress of the siege by enemies who sought their lives. Jeremiah broke the jar to represent how God smashed Judah and Jerusalem. He said that the Lord Almighty would bring every disaster Jeremiah pronounced because they did not listen to his words (Jer. 19:1-15). Warn the church of devastating consequences if it forsakes God, sheds innocent blood and adds to His word.

Share God's Word that Burns in Your Heart
Pashhur, the chief officer in the Lord's temple, had Jeremiah beaten and put in stocks. He said Babylon would carry Judah and their wealth into captivity. Those who prophesied lies died in Babylon. Jeremiah complained about ridicule and mocking because he proclaimed violence and destruction. God's word brought insult and reproach everyday. The word in his heart was like a burning fire shut up in his bones. He was weary holding it in. But the Lord was like a mighty warrior to defeat and disgrace his persecutors. Jeremiah praised God who rescued him from the wicked, but cursed the day of his birth because of trouble and sorrow (Jer. 20:1-18). Share God's word that burns in your heart and trust Him to fight against your persecutors.

Which of the following outcomes of God's word in discipling nations that you must embrace today. What action will you take?

1. God's word heals during judgment of wars, famine and plagues
2. God's word is your joy and delight during persecution
3. God's word is your strength and refuge to teach nations His power
4. God's word heals deceitful hearts and desolate cities
5. God's word warns nations of devastating consequences when they forsake God

What Passionate Love for Christ Produces (Insights in Law)

I want passionate feelings to characterize my relationship with the Lord Jesus. Of course, I want to be perfectly obedient to the Lord, but I want the obedience to spring out of a passionate love for him. I want to obey Jesus not simply out of discipline of duty, or because of some reward or fear of punishment. I want to serve Him simply for the joy of being able to please the one I love so much. If discipline is what ultimately drives us in our pursuit of Jesus, eventually we will give up that pursuit. But a man in love, or a woman in love will never quit.... I want my life to be characterized by an unrestrained affection for the Son of God (Jack Deere).

In Numbers 17-19, as people respond in passionate love for God, they follow His leading into their callings, give generously and confess sin, which results in a transformed community as individuals walk in holiness.

God spoke to Moses to get a rod for each father’s household from all twelve leaders, wrote name on each rod and deposited them in the tent of meeting in front of testimony for Moses to meet with God.  The rod of man whom He chose would sprout to lessen from Himself the grumblings of Israel. The rod of Aaron from the house of Levi sprouted buds, produced blossoms and bore ripe almonds. Aaron’s rod before the testimony was kept as a sign against the rebels to put an end to grumblings against God so they would not die (Num. 17:1-13). God calls approved workers by showing signs of fruitfulness to end death and warn grumblers.

The tribe of Levi would be joined with Aaron to bear responsibility for the offenses against the sanctuary and the priesthood. If fellow Levites came near the furnishings of the sanctuary and altar, they would die and bring wrath on Israel. Aaron and his sons served in the priesthood for everything concerning the altar and inside the veil as a gift, but the stranger would die if he came near (Num. 18:1-7). God enables workers to follow His leadership into their unique callings so they do not experience His wrath.

The Lord spoke to Aaron saying He gave him a charge of His offerings as a portion and to his sons as a perpetual allotment as holy gifts, including the first fruits of oil, wine and grain given to the Lord. Every devoted thing in Israel, including the first-born of man or animal would be theirs. The tithe would be given to the Levites as an inheritance and compensation for serving at the tent of meeting. They gave a tithe of the tithe to Aaron the priest so they would not profane the sacred gifts of Israel and die (Num. 18:8-32). God gives people the opportunity to give financially to His work in response to His love for them.

The Lord said to Moses to bring an unblemished red heifer without defect and no yoke. It was brought to Eleazar the priest and slaughtered outside the camp. He took blood and sprinkled some of it toward the front of the tent of meeting seven times. The heifer would be burned in his sight, the priest washed his clothes, bathed his body in water and was unclean until evening. The cleansed man deposited the ashes outside the camp as purification from sin for Israel and the alien as a lasting ordinance (Num. 19:1-10). Spend regular time in confession of sin to remove spiritual impurity.

One who touched a corpse would be unclean for seven days. He purified himself from uncleanness with water on the third and seventh day to be clean. If he did not purify himself, he defiled the tabernacle of the Lord, cut off from the community and was unclean. A man ceremonially clean would take hyssop, dip in water and sprinkle the tent, furnishings and people who were there. Anything that an unclean person touched became unclean (Num. 19:11-22). The spiritual climate of a community changes for the good when God’s people live in holiness because of their passionate love for Him.

Ask God to move your community through the following progression beginning with yourself:
1. Pray for more passionate love for Christ personally and among other believers in your community
2. Follow God's leading so you embrace His calling for your life
3. Give generously to your local church and kingdom projects
4. Spend regular time in confessing sin
5. Encourage others to walk in holiness

Prayerful Leaders Shape Discipleship to Change Lives (Insights in Law)

"We are too busy to pray, and so we are too busy to have power. We have a great deal of activity, but we accomplish little; many services but few conversions; much machinery but few results." (R.A. Torrey)  In Numbers 7-10, we learn that prayerful leaders shape discipleship to  change lives.

Moses set up, anointed and consecrated the tabernacle with all its furnishings, altar and utensils. The leaders of their fathers’ households  made an offering. They gave the Levites six covered carts and 12 oxen with a cart for every two leaders and an oxen for each one to Gershon and Merari. They did not give any to Kohath because they carried the holy objects on the shoulder. Each leader representing the twelve tribes offered fine flour mixed with oil for grain offering, incense, burnt offering, sin offering and peace offering, beginning with the tribe of Judah (Num. 7:1-83). If leaders dedicate their lives to God, then discipleship can extend to the whole body of Christ.

This was the dedication offering for the altar from Israel's leaders when it was anointed: twelve silver dishes, bowls and gold pans full of incense, all oxen for burnt offering, male lambs with their grain offering, male goats for sin offering and oxen for peace offerings (Num. 7:84-88). God reigns in leaders' hearts when they offer their time, talent and treasure to Him.

When Moses went into the tent of meeting to speak with God, he heard the voice speaking to him from above the mercy seat on the ark of testimony between two cherubim (Num. 7:89). Leaders hear God speak when they trust in Christ’s blood to forgive their sins and meditate on His word.

Seven lamps gave light in front of the lampstands, which were hammered works of gold according to the pattern the Lord showed Moses. Cleanse the Levites using a bull for a grain offering with fine flour mixed with oil and a second bull for a sin offering. Present the Levites before the tent of meeting and assemble the whole congregation. Levites laid hands on the bulls for a sin offering and burnt offering to make atonement for themselves. God took the Levites instead of every first-born to make atonement so no plague would come near the sanctuary. Moses, Aaron and all the congregation of Israel followed what God commanded Moses concerning the Levites. They purified themselves from sin, washed their clothes and Aaron presented them as a wave offering before the Lord to qualify them to perform the service of the Lord (Num. 8:1-26). When the church confesses sins and dedicates itself to obey God’s word, it then becomes the light of the world.

The Lord told Moses to observe the Passover at the appointed time on the 14th day of the first month. Some unclean men because of a dead person could not observe the Passover so they came before Moses and Aaron. The Lord spoke to Moses after waiting to hear from Him. They should eat unleavened bread and bitter herbs while not leaving any until morning or breaking a bone. If a clean person did not observe the Passover, he would be cut off and bear his sin with one statute for the alien and native. A cloud covered the tabernacle continuously by day and fire by night. When the cloud was lifted from over the tent, Israel would set out. When the cloud settled down, Israel would camp and not set out. At the Lord's command, they camped and at His command, they set out to keep His charge (Num. 9:1-23). If the church listens to God's word by not moving ahead or behind the Lord's leading, it will know when and what to do.

When you go to war against the adversary who attacked you, sound an alarm, be remembered before the Lord and be saved from enemies. Gershon and Merari set out carrying the tabernacle after it was taken down. Kohathites carried holy objects. The Lord promised good concerning Israel. The father-in-law of Moses set out with him to the place the Lord would give them. The ark of the covenant journeyed in front of them for three days to seek out a resting place for them. The cloud of the Lord was over them by day. When the ark set out, Moses said, “Rise up, O Lord! And let Thine enemies be scattered, and let those who hate Thee flee before Thee" (Num. 10:1-36). The church gains victory over the world, flesh and devil by calling upon the Lord.

Is God reigning your life? Do you confess sin? Do you call upon God's name? Is prayer a major part of your life? Ask God to break your heart for a church and world that does not seek Him, and then pray as He leads you.

Gaining Internal and External Peace (Insights in Law)

Thomas Merton wrote, "Man is not at peace with his fellow man because he is not at peace with himself; he is not at peace with himself, because he is not at peace with God." Peace comes as men pray, live pure lives, help and encourage others,  confess and not hide from sin, bless and teach about God's protection and kindness.

Take a census of Kohath from Levi by families from 30 to 50 years old who served the tent of meeting and its most holy things. When the camp set out, Aaron and his sons took down the veil of screen and covered the ark of testimony and inserted poles, covered the bread of presence, lampstand for light, along with its lamps and utensils. The responsibility of Eleazar was an oil for light, fragrant incense, continual grain offering and anointing oil for all the tabernacle and its contents. Don’t let the Kohathities go in to see the holy objects lest they die. (Num. 4:1-20). Men transform families, churches and cities through prayer and living pure lives.

Take a census of the Gershonites by their families from 30 to 50 years old for carrying curtains of the tabernacle, tent of meeting’s covering and screen for its doorway,  hangings of the court and cords. Merarites were numbered by their families from 30 to 50 years old to serve the tent of meeting by carrying its boards of tabernacle, bars, pillars and sockets, pillars around court, sockets, pegs, cords and all their equipment assigned each man. Gershonites and Merarites  were under the direction of Ithamar the son of Aaron the priest. Moses, Aaron and leaders of congregation numbered Kohathites by families and fathers’ households as the Lord commanded (Num. 4:21-49). God assigns specific responsibilities to help and encourage each member of the body of Christ.

Send every leper away from the camp who had a discharge or unclean because of dead person so they would not defile it where God dwell in their midst. When man or woman committed any of sins of mankind by acting unfaithfully against the Lord, that person was guilty. He would confess his sins and made restitution in full for his wrong by adding one-fifth and giving it to him whom he wronged. If there was no relative to make restitution, then go to the Lord for the priest, besides offering a ram of atonement (Num. 5:1-10). Confess your sin and pay restitution for freedom from emotional turmoil since it defiles and spreads to others.

If any man’s wife hid her unfaithfulness from her husband and he became jealous, he would bring a grain offering of memorial as a reminder of iniquity. The hand of the priests became the water of bitterness to seek God’s judgment to make her stomach swell and thigh waste away if she was guilty. If she had not defiled herself, she would be free and bear children (Num. 5:11-31). Adultery causes jealousy and a physical curse when sin is hidden from a spouse.

When man or woman made a special vow of the Nazirite to dedicate himself to the Lord by abstaining from wine, strong drink and fresh or dried grapes while not cutting his hair going near a dead person. If he was near a dead person, the priest offered two turtledoves for a sin and burnt offering to make atonement to consecrate his head. He offered a one-year-old male lamb for guilt offering and ram for a peace offering. He offered unleavened cakes of fine flour mixed with oil along with grain offering with the priest presenting it before the Lord. The Nazirite took the dedicated hair of his head and put it on the fire under the peace offerings. The Lord bless you, keep you, make His face shine on you, be gracious to you, lift up His countenance on you and give you peace so they could invoke His name on the sons of Israel (Num. 6:1-27). Bless and teach people about God's protection, kindness and peace internally and externally.

Consider the following steps toward peace:
1. Pray
2. Live in purity
3. Help and encourage others
4. Confess and not hide from sin
5. Bless and teach about God's protection and kindness

Testimony of God's Glory (Insights in Law)

The vision God gave Moses was to focus on spiritual intimacy as a good soldier while making no provision for the flesh or being entangled in the affairs of everyday life (Ex. 39; 2 Tim. 2:3-4). Two additional  images Paul gave Timothy was a disciplined athlete and hard-working farmer that Moses implemented in setting up and operating the tabernacle as a testimony of God's glory (2 Tim. 2:5-6; Ex. 40).

The Lord told Moses to set up the tabernacle of the tent of meeting and place the ark of the testimony, veil around the ark, table, lampstand along with the lamps, gold altar of incense before the ark, and veil for the doorway to the tabernacle. Set up the altar of burnt offering in front of the doorway and laver with water between the tent of meeting and altar. Anoint the tabernacle, altar of burnt offering and laver with oil so they can be holy. Wash Aaron and his sons with water before putting on holy garments so they can minister as priests to God throughout their generations (Ex. 40:1-16). Play according to God's rules in ministering as His priests (athlete).

Moses erected the tabernacle, laid its sockets, set up its boards, inserted its bars and erected its pillars. He placed the testimony into the ark and put the mercy seat on top of it. He brought the ark into the tabernacle and set up a veil for the screen. He put the table in the tent of meeting on the north side outside the veil with an arrangement of bread. He placed the lampstand opposite the table on the south side. He lighted the lamps before the Lord. He placed the gold altar in front of the veil and burned fragrant incense on it. He set the altar of burnt offering before the doorway of the tabernacle and offered the burnt and meal offerings. He placed the laver with water between the tent of meeting and altar so Moses, Aaron and his sons could wash their hands and feet. He erected the court around the tabernacle and altar and hung up the veil for the gateway of the court (Ex. 40:17-33). Confess sin, surrender & pray to God, and meditating on His word while trusting in Christ's shed blood (farmer).

The cloud covered the tent of meeting and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle so Moses could not enter. Whenever the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, Israel would set out and stay when it remained. The cloud of the Lord was on the tabernacle by day and fire in it by night in the sight of Israel (Ex. 40:34-38). Be strong in God's grace to show His glory to the world.

Use spiritual weapons of confessing sin, surrender, prayer, meditating on His word and trusting in Christ's blood to show His glory to the world.
