A person receives power, wealth, wisdom, strength, honor, glory and praise by praying for empowerment by the Holy Spirit knowing Jesus sits on the throne in heaven; worship a holy God and crucified Savior continually by giving Him glory, honor and power; and connect with Christ's death on the cross through His word to purchase men everywhere who serve His kingdom and reign on earth.

Pray for Empowerment By the Holy Spirit
A door in heaven was standing open before John to show him future events. Someone sat on a throne in heaven with the appearance of jasper and carnelian. A rainbow like an emerald encircled the throne and 24 other thrones surrounded it. There were 24 elders dressed in white and gold crowns seated on them. Lightning and thunder came from the throne. Before it were seven spirits and what looked like a sea of glass, clear as crystal (Rev. 4:1-6a). Pray for empowerment by the Holy Spirit knowing Jesus sits on the throne in heaven.

Worship a Holy God Continually
In the center around the throne were four living creatures covered with eyes and six wings each like a lion, ox, face like a man and flying eagle. Day and night they never stopped saying, "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come." When the living creatures gave glory, honor and thanks to Him sitting on the throne who lived forever, the 24 elders fell down. They worshiped Him and cast their crowns before the throne saying, "You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being (Rev. 4:6b-11). Worship a holy God continually by giving Him glory, honor and power.

When you know that Jesus sits on the throne in heaven, you can give Him glory, honor and power.

Connect with Christ's Death Through His Word
John saw a scroll written on both sides sealed with seven seals in the right hand of Him who sat on the throne. No one was worthy to open the scroll and look inside except the the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, who triumphed. He saw a slain Lamb standing in the center of the throne, encircled by the four living creatures and the elders with seven spirits of God. After He took the scroll, the creatures and the 24 elders fell down before the Lamb holding a harp and golden bowls of incense or prayers of the saints. They sang that He was worthy to open the scroll because He was slain and purchased with His blood men for God from every tribe, language, people and nation to be made a kingdom and priests to serve Him and reign on the earth (Rev. 5:1-10). Connect with Christ's death on the cross through His word to purchase men everywhere who serve His kingdom and reign on earth.

Receive Power, Wealth, Wisdom, Strength, Honor, Glory and Praise
John heard the voice of countless angels that encircled the throne, living creatures and elders. They sang that the worthy Lamb was slain to receive power, wealth, wisdom, strength, honor, glory and praise. Every creature sang to Him who sat on the throne and gave praise, honor, glory and power to the Lamb. The four living creatures said, "Amen," and the elders fell down and worshiped (Rev. 5:11-14). Receive power, wealth, wisdom, strength, honor, glory and praise from the crucified Savior through worship.

Connect with Christ's death on the cross through His word and Spirit-empowered prayer to purchase people who serve Him, which reaps power, wealth, wisdom, strength, honor, glory and praise from the Crucified Savior.

Participate in God's Kingdom Purposes (Insights in Prophets)

How do you participate in God's kingdom purpose in the world, whether it's arts & entertainment, business, education, family, government, media and religion? Prioritize seeking and building God's kingdom by obeying and recognizing His presence. Be strong and steward God's resources by turning to Him and meditating on His word.

Prioritize Seeking God and See Your Needs Met
God told Haggai during Darius reign to speak to Zerubbabel, Judah's governor, and Joshua, the high priest. People said their time had not come to build the Lord's house. God revealed to Haggai that they were living in paneled houses while His house remained a ruin. They were to consider their ways because they planted much, but harvested little, ate, but never enough, drank, but never satisfied, put on clothes, but not warm. They earned wages but it dissolved like falling through a purse with hole in it (Haggai 1:1-6). Prioritize seeking God and see your needs met.

Prioritize Building God's Kingdom for Spiritual and Economic Prosperity
Haggai said that building God's kingdom honored Him. Building their own saw it blow away. Being busy with their concerns apart from building His kingdom caused ruin, drought and unemployment (Haggai 1:7-11). Prioritize building God's kingdom to assure spiritual and economic prosperity.

Obey and Recognize God's Presence for Empowerment
Zerubbabel, Joshua and the remnant obeyed God through Haggai's message because He sent him and feared Him. He said, "I am with you," and stirred their spirits to work on the house of God 23 days later (Haggai 1:12-15). Obey and recognize God's presence who empowers you to build His kingdom.

Be Strong and Steward God's Resources for His Glory
One month later Haggai asked who saw this house in its former glory. They were to be strong and work since God was with them. Haggai reminded them of His covenant with those who came out of Egypt along with His Spirit that remained in them. In a little while, God would again shake the heavens, earth, sea and dry land so the desired of all nations would come and fill His kingdom with glory. The silver and gold was His. The glory of this present house would be greater than the glory of the former one (Haggai 2:1-9). Be strong and steward God's resources for His glory.

Turn to God Instead of Trusting Yourself
Two month later Haggai asked the priests if the law taught that consecrated meat touching another article could consecrate it as well. They answered no. Haggai asked if a person defiled by contact with a dead body would defile another article by touching it. The priests answered yes. Haggai said their actions and what they offered were defiled.  They were to consider how God struck all their work with blight, mildew and hail, but still did not turn to Him (Haggai 2:10-17). Turn to God and do not trust yourself, which leads to corruption.

Meditate on God's Word for Blessing
They were to give careful thought to the day when the foundation of the Lord's temple was laid. They were to consider whether there was any seed left in the barn since every plant did not bear fruit. From this day on, He would bless them (Haggai 2:18-19). Meditate on God's word to receive blessing from Him.

Glory in God's Choosing You to Participate in His Purpose
God's word came to Haggai a second time on the same day to tell Zerubbabel  that He would shake the heavens and earth, overturn royal thrones, shatter the power of foreign kingdoms and overthrow chariots and their drivers so they were killed. On that day He would make His servant Zerubbabel like His signet ring since God chose him (Haggai 2:20-23). Glory in God's choosing you to participate in His kingdom purpose.

Participate in God's kingdom purpose in the world by doing the following:
1. Seek God
2. Obey and recognize His presence
3. Be strong and steward God's resources
4. Turn to Him and meditate on His word

Empower People So They Seek the Spiritual Welfare of Others (Insights in Prophets)

4/1/2013

Picture
Most people are not empowered to serve others by seeking their spiritual welfare. In Ezek. 30-34, we learned that one serves others by seeking their spiritual welfare through preparing for Christ's coming, humbling before God, warning people to turn away from sin, practicing God's word, ministering with compassion to the needy, providing accurate and clear biblical teaching, and rescuing people from slavery to sin and false teaching.

How do we empower people so they can seek the spiritual welfare of others? Ezekiel 35 explains the negative: reap death when you harbor hatred. In the positive, receive a new heart to motivate obedience, speak God's word to build up the body of Christ, preserve the unity of the Spirit, trust His sovereignty to defeat spiritual enemies, cleanse the land of sin to display His glory and trust God to free you from the shame of sin.

Reap Death When You Harbor Hatred
God told Ezekiel to prophesy that He was against Edom and ruined their cities to make them desolate. They harbored  an ancient hostility and delivered the Israelites to the sword when their punishment reached its climax. God delivered Edom over to bloodshed since they did not hate it. They said two nations were theirs as a possession. God judged their anger and jealousy because of hatred. They would know the Lord heard how they boasted against Him without restraint and rejoiced when Israel became desolate (Ezek. 35;1-15). Reap death when you harbor hatred and boast against God.

Receive a New Heart to Motivate Obedience
God said enemies ravaged Israel to become their possession and object of people's malicious talk. Because they plundered Israel with malice in their hearts, nations around them were scorned like them. Israel produced fruit and God looked upon them with favor. He multiplied the people, inhabited the towns and rebuilt the ruins so they prospered more than before. Israel possessed the nations and never were deprived again of their  children. God scattered Israel through the countries because they profaned His name. He cleansed them from all impurities and idols. He gave them a new heart and put a new spirit in them. He removed their heart of stone and gave them a heart of flesh. He put His Spirit in them to move them to obey God's laws. God increased the fruit of trees and crops so they no longer suffered disgrace because of famine. The nations knew that He rebuilt what was destroyed and replanted what was desolate (Ezek. 36:1-38). Receive a new heart of flesh and spirit that motivates obedience, multiplies disciples and rebuilds cities.

Speak God's Word to Awaken Body of Christ
The Lord told Ezekiel to prophesy so dry bones heard God's word in the middle of a valley. He attached tendons, made flesh, covered with skin and put breath in them so they came to life and knew He was the Lord. The bones came together, tendons and flesh appeared, and skin covered them. Ezekiel prophesied that breath came from the four winds and breathed into the slain so they lived as a vast army, representing Israel. He put His Spirit in them to live so they settled in their own land (Ezek. 37:1-14). Speak God's word to awaken the body of Christ to life through the Holy Spirit.

Preserve the Unity of the Spirit
Ezekiel wrote on two sticks of wood, "Belonging to Judah and the Israelites associated with him" and "Ephraim's stick, belonging to Joseph and all the house of Israel associated with him." God commanded Ezekiel to join them together as one stick to become one in his hand. It represented one nation and one king without division into two kingdoms. They no longer defiled themselves with idols for God saved and cleansed them from all backsliding. David became king and one shepherd so the nation could follow God's laws. He made a covenant of peace eternally to make them His dwelling place. The nations knew the Lord made Israel holy (Ezek. 37:15-28). Preserve the unity of the Spirit by obeying God's word and becoming His dwelling place.

Trust God's Sovereignty to Defeat Spiritual Enemies
Ezekiel prophesied against Gog, of the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, Persia, Cush and Put. Israel along with many nations would plunder the land. Gog would attack Israel. God's wrath through a great earthquake would overturn mountains and walls. God would execute judgment upon Gog and many nations with plague, bloodshed, torrents of rain, hailstones and burning sulfur. He would show His greatness and holiness to make Himself known in the nations (Ezek. 38:1-23). Trust God's sovereignty to defeat spiritual enemies and show His greatness and holiness to the world.

Cleanse the Land of Sin to Display God's Glory
God would send fire against Magog and those who lived in safety. He would make known His holy name to Israel. For seven years they would use their weapons as fuel. For seven months Israel would bury Gog's soldiers in the valley of those who traveled east toward the Dead Sea. Men would be regularly employed to cleanse the land. God would call a great sacrifice on the mountains of Israel to eat the flesh of mighty men and drink the blood of the princes of the earth like they were animals. He would display His glory among the nations so Israel knew He was the Lord. Nations would know that Israel went into exile for their sin because they were unfaithful to Him (Ezek. 39:1-24). Cleanse the land of sin to display God's glory to the world so His people know He is Lord.

Trust God to Free You from Shame of Sin
God would bring Jacob back from captivity and be zealous for His holy name. They would forget their shame and unfaithfulness when they lived in safety. God would show His holiness in the sight of many nations so they would know He was Lord. He would pour out His Spirit on the house of Israel (Ezek. 39:25-29). Trust God to free you from the shame of sin through the Holy Spirit and show His holiness to the world.

The following explains how to empower people so they seek the spiritual welfare of others:
1. Understand that you reap death when you harbor hatred

2. Receive a new heart to motivate obedience
3. Speak God's word to awaken the body of Christ
4. Preserve the unity of the Spirit

5. Trust His sovereignty to defeat spiritual enemies
6. Cleanse the land of sin to display His glory
7. Trust God to free you from the shame of sin

How to Free People From Satan's Snares (Insights in NT)

3/24/2013

Picture
In order to free those ensnared by Satan through selfishness, pleasure and religion,  handle God's word accurately,  be empowered by the Holy Spirit and strong teamwork, preach the word in evangelism without shame, and equip faithful men in God's word to do good works.

Be Empowered By the Holy Spirit
Paul, an apostle of Christ, wrote to Timothy, his dear son, thanking God for constantly remembering him in prayer, longing to see him and being filled with joy. Paul reminded Timothy to fan into flame his faith passed down from his grandmother Lois and mother Eunice as God's gift. He did not give anyone a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, love and self-discipline (2 Tim. 1:1-7). Be empowered by the Holy Spirit in power, love and self-discipline.

Be Unashamed as You Proclaim the Gospel
Be unashamed about the Lord and His messengers. Join in suffering for the gospel who saved and called everyone to a holy life by God's own purpose and grace through Jesus Christ. He destroyed death and brought life and immortality through the gospel. God appointed Paul a herald, apostle and teacher to suffer unashamedly. He knew God and convinced that He was able to guard what he entrusted to Him for that day. Paul commanded Timothy to guard the deposit of sound teaching he heard with faith and love in Christ including the help of the Holy Spirit. Everyone in the province of Asia deserted Paul, including Phygelus and Hermogenes. He asked the Lord to show mercy to the household of Onesiphorus, He refreshed, helped and unashamed of Paul's chains (2 Tim. 1:8-18). Be unashamed as you proclaim the gospel and serve His messengers.

Entrust God's Word to Faithful Men
Paul commanded Timothy to be strong in grace and entrust God's deposit to faithful men who could teach others. By enduring hardship as a good soldier of Christ and not involving himself in civilian affairs, he would please His commanding officer. By competing as an athlete and  following the rules, he would receive the victor's crown. As a hardworking farmer, he would be the first to share in the crops. By reflecting on these things, the Lord provided insight (2 Tim. 2:1-7). Entrust God's word to faithful men who teach others as you endure hardship, follow rules and work hard.

Handle God's Word Accurately
Remember Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David, so people suffer and endure everything for the gospel enabling others to obtain salvation for eternal glory. Die to live and endure to reign. By disowning Him, you disown yourself. God remained faithful in the midst of faithlessness since He cannot disown Himself. Remind people of these things and warn against quarreling about words to prevent ruin. Present self as an approved workman without shame correctly handing the word of truth. Avoid godless chatter that spread like gangrene leading to further ungodliness, wandering and destroying faith.  Everyone who confessed the Lord's name must turn away from wickedness (2 Tim. 2:8-19). Handle God's word accurately to reign with Christ and people obtain salvation.

Teach Gently and Lead Those Ensnared By Satan
A large house contained articles for honorable and dishonorable purposes. Be cleansed from dishonorable ones to become a holy instrument useful to the Master and prepared for any good work. Flee youthful lusts and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. Refuse foolish and stupid arguments that produced quarrels but be kind and able to teach gently so God granted repentance leading to the knowledge of truth. They came to their senses and escaped from the devil's trap who took them captive to do his will (2 Tim. 2:20-26). Teach gently and lead those ensnared by Satan toward repentance and the knowledge of the truth.

Avoid Selfish, Pleasure-Seeking and Religious Men
In the last days, have nothing to do with men who love  themselves, love money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of good, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God and had a form of godliness but denied its power. They wormed their ways into homes and gained control over weak-willed women loaded down with sins and evil desires. Having depraved minds, they always learn but never able to acknowledge the truth (2 Tim. 3:1-9). Avoid selfish, pleasure-seeking and religious men who do not acknowledge the truth.

Use Your Life and God's Word to Equip in Good Works
Timothy knew about Paul's teaching, way of life, purpose, faith, patience, love, endurance, persecution and sufferings.  God rescued him from persecutions in Antioch, Iconium and Lystra. Everyone who wanted to live godly was persecuted. Continue learning and being convinced knowing those from whom you learned it. From infancy Timothy knew the holy Scriptures making him wise for salvation through faith in Christ. All Scriptures were inspired by God and profitable for teaching, reproof, correction and training in righteousness so the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work (2 Tim. 3:10-17). Use your life and God's word to equip people in every good work.

Preach the Word Longing for Christ's Second Coming
In the presence of God, preach the Word in every season. Correct, rebuke and encourage with patience and careful instruction. A time would come when men did not endure sound doctrine but gathered many teachers to say what their itching ears wanted to hear. They rejected truth and followed myths. Paul commanded Timothy to endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist and discharge all duties of his ministry. Paul's sacrificial service proved he fought the good fight, finished the race and kept the faith. In the future the righteous Judge awarded him and others the crown of righteousness if they longed for His coming (2 Tim. 4:1-8). Preach the word and do evangelism as you long for Christ's Second Coming.

Develop Strong Teamwork to Fully Proclaim the Gospel
Paul asked Timothy to come quickly because Demas loved this world and deserted him along with two others except Luke. He asked Timothy to bring his cloak, scrolls and Mark as he was helpful in ministry. Paul warned Timothy to be guard since Alexander the metalworker strongly opposed his message. At Paul's first defense, everyone deserted him. God strengthened Paul to fully proclaim His message so all Gentiles might hear it. The Lord would rescue him from evil attack to be brought safely to His heavenly kingdom. Paul asked Timothy to greet Priscilla, Aquila and the household of Onesiphorus. Erastus stayed in Corinth and left Trophimus sick in Miletus. He asked Timothy to come before winter. Eubulus, Pudens, Linus, Claudia and all the brothers greeted him (2 Tim. 4:9-22). Develop strong teamwork to fully proclaim the gospel in the midst of desertion and opposition.

In order to free people from the devil's snares, do the following:
1. Handle God's word accurately
2. Be empowered by the Holy Spirit and strong teamwork
3. Preach the word in evangelism without shame
4. Equip faithful men in God's word to do good works

Church Designed to Rebuild Cities (Insights in Prophets)

1/12/2013

Picture
The church is God's plan for building healthy cities. Instead of taking personal responsibility, God's people often rely on government and non-profit organizations to solve problems in the city whether it is housing, jobs, violence or social opportunities. Jeremiah encouraged an expanded role for the church in the city by speaking the whole truth of what God commands from Genesis to Revelation in order to seek its peace and prosperity. Only a healthy and obedient church motivated by God's love and repentance bring healing to a city effectively. The law written on the hearts of believers through the New Covenant empowers people to rebuild the city's ruins.

Speak Everything God Commands
God instructed Jeremiah to tell Judah everything He commanded so they would listen and turn from their evil way. If they did not listen to the prophets, He would make Jerusalem an object of cursing among all nations like Shiloh. Everyone including priests and prophets said Jeremiah must die after he prophesied desolation for Jerusalem.  He told the officials to reform their ways and actions by obeying God so He would not bring disaster upon them. By killing Jeremiah, they would bring innocent blood upon themselves. Some elders cited Hezekiah who feared and sought the Lord's favor by not killing Micah who warned Jerusalem like Jeremiah (Jer. 26:1-24). Speak everything God commands so the church obeys Him.

Speak Truth Without Lying
God told Jeremiah to put a yoke on his neck. He warned the kings of Edom, Moab, Ammon, Tyre and Sidon that their countries would either serve Babylon or be destroyed if they did not submit to his yoke. Their prophets communicated lies saying they should not serve Babylon, which would result in ruin instead of life. The prophet Hananiah's told Judah to break the yoke of Babylon since God would bring back the articles of the Lord's house and exiles within two years. Jeremiah said prophets who prophesied peace were recognized as sent by the Lord if his prediction came true. After Hananiah broke the yoke off of Jeremiah's neck, he said God would replace it with a iron yoke on all these nations to make them serve king Nebuchadnezzar of  Babylon. Jeremiah told Hananiah that God did not send him even though he persuaded Judah to trust in lies. He died that year because he preached rebellion against God (Jer. 27:1-28:17).  Speak truth without lying to obey God even when it is not politically correct.

Seek the Peace and Prosperity of the City
Jeremiah sent letter to exiles in Babylon exhorting them to build houses, plant gardens, marry and have children. They prayed and sought the peace of the city. Their prosperity was tied to the city's. After 70 years in Babylon, God fulfilled His promise to bring them back to Jerusalem. He planned to prosper and not harm them for hope and a future. They prayed so He would listen. They found Him and restored their fortunes when they sought Him with all their heart. The exiles and people in Jerusalem did not listen to God's words. Those who prophesied lies were put to death by Babylon (Jer. 29:1-32). Seek the peace and prosperity of the city where you live knowing God has a hopeful future.

Rebuild Your City As God Makes the Church Healthy
God told Jeremiah to write in a book every word He spoke concerning a time of trouble when He broke Jacob's yoke to serve the Lord. They should not fear since Jacob would have peace, security and salvation. God disciplined them with justice. Their wound was incurable with no one to plead or care for their cause. They had many sins and great guilt, but God restored them to health and healed their wounds being called an outcast. The city was rebuilt on her ruins and their community established before God with thanksgiving. A ruler arose from among them to be close to God. They were His people as He fully accomplished His purposes via His wrath  (Jer. 30:1-24).  Rebuild your city as God heals wounds and restores the church to health.

Allow God's Love and Repentance Bring Healing of the City
God gave Israel rest as they found favor in the desert. He loved Israel with an eternal love and drew them with lovingkindness. The watchman made their praises heard and asked God to save them. He gathered the blind, lame and expectant mothers from the ends of the earth. They came with weeping and prayer as God led them beside streams of water on a level path. He watched over His flock like a shepherd and redeemed them from those stronger than they. He satisfied the priests with abundance and filled His people with bounty. They went from weeping for children to having their work rewarded. God provided hope for their future as children returned to their land. Their repentance brought compassion from God (Jer. 31:1-20). Allow God's love and repentance of sin motivate the church in healing various parts of your city to bring hope, favor and abundance.

Rely On God's Law Written On Your Heart
When Israel returned to their towns, the Lord created a new thing when a woman surrounded a man. After God restored Judah from captivity, they said the Lord blessed the righteous dwelling as they lived together, refreshed the weary and satisfied the faint. He uprooted, tore down, overthrew, destroyed and brought disaster before building and planting. Everyone was responsible for their own sin. In the future, God made a new covenant with Israel and Judah different than the Mosaic covenant. He put His law in their minds and wrote it on their hearts as their God and His people. Everyone knew the Lord without teaching as God forgave without remembering their sin. Like the sun rising daily, He promised that Israel's descendants continue as a nation. God never rejected Israel's descendants again because of their works. Jerusalem would be rebuilt and holy to the Lord from the Tower of Hananel to the Corner Gate never to be uprooted and demolished (Jer. 31:21-40).  Rely on God's law written on your heart and mind through the New Covenant.

How will your small group rebuild ruins in the city? Let God speak to you about a simple and realistic project that your group could accomplish trusting Him to empower you.

Equipped for a Unique Purpose (Insights in Law)

5/29/2011

Picture
God created you for a special purpose. To do His will, He takes the initiative. He sovereignly places you in the right family to fulfill His will. God relieves you of burdens and bondage so you can know Him and discover your special purpose. To overcome fear, He empowers you with the Holy Spirit to speak what He tells you. In Exodus 6, you will see how God equipped Moses for a unique purpose.

The Lord said to Moses that he would see what God would do to Pharaoh when he let Israel go under compulsion.  As Lord, He appeared to Abraham, established His covenant, gave the Hebrew people Canaan, and heard His people groaning because of their Egyptian bondage. God's great judgments redeemed the sons of Israel from burdens and bondage to be His people so they would know Him as Lord. They did not listen to Moses because of their despondency and cruel bondage (Ex. 6:1-9). God compels authorities to do justice and relieves you of burdens and bondage so you can know Him.

The Lord told Moses to tell Pharaoh to let Israel leave Egypt. Moses reasoned to God that neither Pharaoh nor Israel listened to him since was unskilled in speech. The Lord charged Moses and Aaron to bring Israel out of Egypt (Ex. 6:10-13). God commands you to speak His word regardless of your skill level.

The ancestral heads of Moses and Aaron's households included the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath and Merari. One son of Kohath was Amran who married his father’s sister Jochebed. She bore Aaron and Moses who spoke to Pharaoh about bringing Israel out of Egypt (Ex. 6:14-27). Your family of origin affects your destiny.

The Lord told Moses to speak everything He said to Pharaoh. Moses said to the Lord, "Behold, I am unskilled in speech; how then will Pharaoh listen to me?" God empowers you with the Holy Spirit to speak all He tells you without fear.

Considering the content in this passage, how has God prepared you for your special purpose?
