Joe tells his son, Cody, to get dressed so they aren’t late to the 10 a.m. Sunday morning service.“Dad, do we have to go? Church is boring!”

“Cody, church is good for you. We don’t want to forsake the assembling of ourselves together!”

“Dad, what does it mean to assemble ourselves together?” Cody said, “I’d rather be playing soccer with my friends on Sunday morning.” “My friends in the youth group don’t say anything in Sunday School. They aren’t any different than people who don’t go to church. In fact, they’re more loving and less judgmental than those who don’t go to church,” Cody said.

Doesn’t God have something more exciting and fulfilling for us? It's better than surfing the largest wave, making the million-dollar sale, experiencing the thrill of victory or getting an A on a final test. Luke 10 shows how we can join a movement of adventure with God.

1. Ask God for laborers
Jesus appointed 70 followers and sent them in groups of two to every place where He was going to visit. He said to ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest. They were to be lambs in the midst of wolves (Luke 10:1-3). Ask God for laborers to be sent out into the harvest field.

2. Pursue interactive, trust-filled relationships
Carry no money or supplies, and do not greet anyone on the way. Whatever city you enter, stay and don't leave a house that contains a man of peace. The goal is discipleship until peace rests and remains there (Luke 10:4-8).
Pursue interactive, trust-filled relationships leading to gospel conversations and hospitality.

3. Trust God’s power to heal and share gospel
Heal those who are sick and say, "The kingdom of God has come near to you." If they don't listen, their judgment will be worse than Tyre and Sidon that leads to Hades. One who listens to you listens to Me, and one who rejects you rejects Me (Luke 10:9-16). Trust God’s power to heal and share gospel of kingdom so it connects with them.

4. Affirm your identity in Christ
The 72 told Jesus that demons were subject to them in His name. Jesus said He watched Satan fall from heaven like lightning and gave them authority so the enemy wouldn’t injure them.  Jesus said to rejoice their names were recorded in heaven, not spirits submitting to them. Jesus rejoiced that the Father revealed revelation to them rather than the educated and kings
(Luke 10:17-24). Affirm your identity in Christ instead of ministry results.

5. Show compassion ministering to practical needs
A lawyer asked what he should to do to inherit eternal life. Jesus told him to love God with all his heart, soul, strength, and mind and neighbor as himself. Jesus told a parable about the Good Samaritan who felt compassion toward someone robbed. Instead of passing by, he bandaged their wounds, poured oil, put him on his own beast, brought him to an inn, cared for him, and paid two denarii to the innkeeper while he went away (Luke 10:25-37).
Show compassion ministering to practical needs that come across your path.

6. Listen to God and pray persistently for God’s kingdom
Martha offered hospitality as she welcomed Jesus into her home. Her sister, Mary, listened to the Lord's word, while sitting at His feet. Martha was distracted with all her preparations. Jesus said she was worried and bothered about so many things, but Mary chose the good part. Pray persistently for God’s kingdom to come on earth and for the Holy Spirit
(Luke 10:38-11:13). Listen to God and pray persistently for God’s kingdom and Holy Spirit

Ask > Relationships > Heal > Gospel > Identity > Compassion > Listen & Pray

Will you join the movement of adventure with God? Notice the gospel is at the center of everything we do. Ask God for laborers. Pursue interactive, trust-filled relationships leading to gospel conversations. Trust God’s power to heal and share the gospel of the kingdom so it connects. Affirm your identity in Christ. Show compassion ministering to practical needs. Listen to God and pray persistently for God’s kingdom and Holy Spirit so you repeat the movement of adventure with Him.

Jesus is at work (notice last part of Luke 10:1—"place where He was about to go”). To see movement, train your friends and family who reach their friends and family, who reach their friends and family.

Prepare for Reward in Heaven

I wake up and look at my phone checking emails, sports scores and news. Before I know it, I’m obsessed with my “to-do” list. My mind becomes cluttered with scheduled meetings, family obligations, errands to run, and people to call or visit. Unfortunately, this describes some days.

We grow up consumed with efficiency. We crowd many activities into a day. If we aren’t careful, it’s tempting to equate multitasking and busyness with success. Marriages break up when a spouse makes family second to work and personal accomplishments.

Our busyness not only hurts us physically, mentally, and emotionally, but also spiritually. It weakens physical health, robs the soul of peace, and prevents ministry to others. More importantly, we lose reward in heaven. Let’s look at Luke 6 for perspective and a way out of this treadmill.

1. Believe in Sabbath rest for refreshment
The Pharisees questioned why Jesus and His disciples picked and ate grain that violated he Sabbath. Jesus said when David and his companions were hungry, they ate consecrated bread reserved for priests alone. "The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath"
(Luke 6:1-5). God designed the Sabbath for physical and spiritual refreshment.

2. Use rest to be equipped for ministry
When Jesus healed a man to restore his withered hand, He said to the Pharisees, "I ask you, is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good, or to do harm, to save a life, or to destroy it?" (Luke 6:6-11). God designed the Sabbath for ministry in helping others.

3. Spend extended time with God for strategic impact
Jesus spent a whole night on the mountain praying to God. He chose twelve to be His apostles. Many disciples and people were healed of their diseases and unclean spirits (Luke 6:12-19). Spend much time in prayer for effective healing ministries.

4. Employ humble attitudes for reward in heaven
Jesus said to be poor, hungry, and weep to experience the kingdom of God, satisfaction, and laughter. People  received great reward in heaven when men hated, ostracized, cast insults and spurned their name as evil for  the sake of the Son of Man (Luke 6:20-26). Embrace humility, endure lack of earthly resources, and tolerate insults because of your faith to experience God’s kingdom and reward in heaven.

5. Show mercy to difficult people for reward in heaven
Love enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you, and treat others the way you want to be treated for great reward in heaven as sons of the Most High. Be merciful as your Father is merciful. Don't judge or condemn, but pardon. Give and it will be given to you.  (Luke 6:27-38). Show mercy and kindness to difficult people who mistreat you.

6. Speak from a God-centered heart
A blind man can't guide a blind man. Take the log out of your own eye so you can see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye. Good trees produce good fruit. Bad trees produce bad fruit. A man speaks from that which fills his heart (Luke 6:39-45). Good speech flows from a heart reconciled to God.

7. Ground yourself in God’s word
Everyone who comes to God, hears His words, and acts upon them is like a man who builds his house upon the rock. It's able to withstand floods. The one who didn't act upon God's word is like a man whose house collapsed and suffered ruin without a foundation  (Luke 6:46-49
). Obey God's word to stay grounded in life’s storms.

Action Steps:
1. Set a time each day to unwind from the busyness of life. Get out of the house, take a walk, or spend time in a park away from your cell phone, computer and technology to hear God speak to you.

2. Make it daily habit so this time becomes the highlight of your day.

3. Allow the Holy Spirit to lead you for ministry to others.

From Temptation to Transformation

A waitress brought food to our table. We asked how we could pray for her. She said her brother has Asperger’s and wanted prayer. Holding hands, we offered prayer to God.

Awhile back, we gave a Bible to a different waitress. The following week, she served us again. I shared the following: man’s brokenness, God’s design, Adam and Eve breaking God’s command, sin entering the world, human strategies made brokenness worse, Jesus coming down to earth to die for the forgiveness of sin—rising from the dead—coming back to rule and reign on earth, and how I personally trusted Christ’s death and resurrection for the forgiveness of sin that put me on the pathway to experience God’s design. I asked her, “Would you like to receive Christ?” She said yes.

Those who serve the public like waitresses feel much stress and temptations. Taking time to relate has the potential to transform them in Christ. Let's journey with Jesus to learn how to move from temptation to transformation in Christ.

1. Expect temptations
The devil tempted Jesus three times in the wilderness. Like Jesus, the devil tempts you to consider who to trust (appetites versus His word), what you submit to (world versus God), and who you worship (ego versus the Holy Spirit) (Luke 4:1-12).

2. Be aware of vulnerable times
After these temptations, the devil departed until a more opportune time (Luke 4:13). Satan exploits vulnerable times when you might desire pleasure to satisfy your flesh, seek power to accomplish worldly pursuits or pursue prestige to gratify your ego.

3. Recognize your need of Jesus
At the height of popularity, Jesus read Isaiah 61:1-2a in the synagogue: the Spirit empowered Him to preach the gospel to the poor (recognize sin), proclaim release to the captives (slave to sin and disease), recovery of sight to the blind (spiritually dead), set free the downtrodden (lost hope) and proclaim the favorable year of the Lord. He said Elisha cleansed Naaman the Syrian of leprosy, yet people in the synagogue drove Him out of town (Luke 4:14-30). Jesus heals and sets free those who recognize their need for Him.

4. Depend on Jesus’ power
People in Capernaum were amazed Jesus' teaching had authority. Jesus rebuked a demon in a man saying, "Be quiet and come out of him!" Jesus rebuked the high fever in Simon's mother-in-law. She arose immediately and served them. Jesus healed those with various diseases by laying His hands on them (Luke 4:31-41). Jesus' word has power to cast out demons for emotional, mental and physical healing.

5. Spend time alone with God
Jesus knew his purpose was to preach the kingdom of God in various cities so everyone had a chance to believe. Jesus received His power and marching orders during His times alone with God (Luke 4:42-44).
The more you make an active effort to spend time with God in prayer and His word, the more He will empower you as a change agent and difference maker to overcome temptation, preach the gospel to heal those enslaved by sin and disease, awaken the spiritually dead, and give new hope to those beaten down by life.

We invite Lincoln, NE, area folks to our next All-Night Prayer Meeting Fri., June 14th, beginning at 7 p.m., Praise Chapel, 1201 Benton St., to experience spiritual awakening in our churches, cities, and world

Process and Benefits of Healing (Insights in NT)

People experience healing after suffering through genuine faith, obeying God redeems them from empty life, growing spiritually by drinking God's word, becoming a living stone to offer spiritual sacrifices, and enduring injustice while entrusting themselves to Christ. A healed person influences God and their spouse and becomes a peacemaker in various spheres of life through harmony, humility, peace and exalting Christ in his speech.

Show Genuine Faith By Loving Christ and Enduring Suffering
Peter wrote to strangers scattered throughout various provinces chosen according to God's foreknowledge by the Holy Spirit's sanctifying work for obedience to Christ and His blood. His great mercy gave them new birth into a living hope through Christ's resurrection. They received an eternal inheritance reserved in heaven through faith in God's power. While on earth, they suffered grief in all kinds of trials to refine and prove their faith as genuine and more valuable than gold. By loving and believing in Christ, they brought praise, glory and honor to Him. They were filled with inexpressible and glorious joy leading to the salvation of their souls. The prophets searched intently for the revelation of the sufferings and glory of Christ spoken to them through the gospel (1 Pet. 1:1-12). Show genuine faith by loving Christ, enduring suffering and waiting for your eternal inheritance.

Be Redeemed From an Empty Life by Obeying God
Peter commanded self-control as they prepared their minds for action and set their hope on God's grace given when Jesus was revealed. Imitating God through a holy life prevented conformity to evil desires when they lived in ignorance. Christ' precious blood redeemed them from  emptiness and spurred a reverent belief in God who raised Jesus from the dead to glory. Obeying the truth caused purity and sincere love of their brothers. They were born again through the imperishable seed of the living and enduring word of God. All men were like grass that withered but God's word that was preached stood forever (1 Pet. 1:13-25). Be redeemed from an empty life by obeying God's word in new birth, purity and sincere love of the brothers.

Grow Spiritually as You Drink God's Word
Eliminating malice, deceit, hypocrisy, envy and slander, they should crave spiritual milk like newborn babies to grow up in their salvation. By coming to the living Stone, they were built up like living stones into a spiritual house as a holy priesthood offering spiritual sacrifices. Those who trusted in Christ, the precious cornerstone, never were put to shame. Those who rejected Him stumbled and fell because they disobeyed the message. As a chosen people, royal priesthood, holy nation and a people belonging to God, they declared His praises who called them out of darkness into His wonderful light. Being aliens and strangers in the world who received mercy as His people meant abstaining from sinful desires that waged war against their soul. When unbelievers saw their good deeds, they glorified God (1 Pet. 2:1-12). Grow spiritually as you drink God's word and become a living stone offering spiritual sacrifices.

Heal Spiritually by Enduring Injustice
Submission to all human and political authorities silenced ignorant and foolish talk. Being free as a servant of God was not a cover-up for evil. They were to show proper respect, love believers, fear God, honor the king and submit to both good and harsh masters. He called them to suffer for doing good because Christ suffered and left an example for them to follow in His steps. He committed no sin or deceit. When they hurled insults at Christ, He did not retaliate. When He suffered, He made no threats, but entrusted Himself to God who judged justly. Christ bore their sins in His body on the tree so they would die to sin and live for righteousness. His wounds healed them from going astray since they returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of their souls (1 Pet. 2:13-25).
Heal spiritually by enduring injustice and entrusting yourself to Christ.

Influence God and Your Husband By Submission
Submission of wives to their husbands won over disobedient spouses by purity and reverence. Wives' true beauty came from a gentle and quiet spirit of great worth to God. Sarah called Abraham her master by doing right without fear. Husbands should treat their wives with respect as a weaker partner and heir of the gracious gift of life so nothing would hinder their prayers (1 Pet. 3:1-7). Influence God and your husband by a submissive attitude.

Become a Peacemaker Through Harmony, Humility and Exalting Christ
They inherited a blessing by living in harmony with love, compassion, humility and not repaying evil with evil. To love life and see good days, they kept their tongue from evil and deceitful speech, turned from evil and did good, and pursued peace. God's eyes were on the righteous being attentive to their prayers. Those who suffered doing right were blessed. They set apart Christ as Lord in their hearts and prepared themselves to give a reason for their hope with gentleness and respect. It shamed those who slandered good behavior in Christ. His resurrection saved them and Christ went into heaven at God's right hand with angels, authorities and powers submitting to Him (I Pet. 3:8-22). Become a peacemaker through harmony, love, humility, peace and exalting Christ in your speech.

Here is the process for healing:
1. Show genuine faith by loving Christ, enduring suffering and waiting for your eternal inheritance
2. Be redeemed from an empty life by obeying God's word in new birth, purity and sincere love of the brothers
3. Grow spiritually as you drink God's word and become a living stone offering spiritual sacrifices.
4. Heal spiritually by enduring injustice and entrusting yourself to Christ

Here are the benefits of healing:
1. Influence God and your husband by a submissive attitude
2. Become a peacemaker through harmony, love, humility, peace and exalting Christ in your speech

Receive Blessings By Submitting to God (Insights in NT)

Picture
You receive answers to prayer and exaltation, prevent sin and God's judgment, and receive His blessings and healing through prayer,  submission to His will and perseverance.

Receive Answers to Prayer By Asking with Right Motives
Personal desires that waged war in peoples' souls caused fights and quarrels that lead to killing and coveting. They received legitimate desires by asking God with right motives. He did not answer prayers that focused on selfish pleasure since friendship with the world was hatred toward God. The indwelling Holy Spirit gave grace to the humble but opposed the proud (James 4:1-6). Receive answers to prayer by asking humbly with right motives.

Receive Exaltation by Submitting to God Without Judgment
Submission to God allowed one to resist the devil. He drew near to those who came to Him. Sinners who washed their hands and purified their hearts could grieve and mourn in humility before God so He could lift them up. Those who slandered or judged their brothers also disobeyed and judged the law. Since God was the one Lawgiver and Judge who could save and destroy, people were incapable of judging their neighbors (James 4:7-12). Receive exaltation by submitting to God humbly without judging your neighbor.

Prevent Sin By Submitting to God's Will
Those who said they would go to this city, spend a year, carry on business and make money did not know what would happen tomorrow. They should say if it was the Lord's will, they would live and do that. All boasting and bragging were evil. It was sin for those who knew the good thing and did not do it (James 4:13-17). Prevent sin by submitting to God's will and doing the good thing.

Prevent God's Judgment by Not Hoarding Wealth
Rich people should weep because their wealth rotted, moths ate their clothes and gold and silver corroded because they hoarded it in the last days. By failing to pay the workmen who mowed their fields, God heard their cries against the rich. They lived in luxury and self-indulgence, fattened themselves in the day of slaughter and condemned and murdered innocent men (James 5:1-6). Prevent God's judgment by not hoarding wealth or paying fair wages.

Receive God's Blessings By Persevering Without Grumbling
Be patient and stand firm because of the Lord's soon coming again. Prevent His judgment by not grumbling against others. Prophets who persevered like Job received blessings from a compassionate and merciful God. People who did what they said were not condemned (James 5:7-12). Receive God's blessings by persevering without grumbling and keeping your word.

Receive Healing by Praying for the Sick and Confessing Sins
The troubled should pray, the happy should praise God and the sick should call for elders to pray and be anointed with oil in His name. Prayer offered in faith made the sick person well and forgave his sin. The confession of sin and prayer for healing were empowered by the effective prayer of a righteous person. When Elijah prayed earnestly that it would not rain, it did not rain from three and a half years. When he prayed again, the heavens gave rain and the earth produced its crops. Whoever turned a sinner from his error saved him from death and covered a multitude of sins (James 5:13-20). Receive healing by praying for the sick and confessing your sins to one another.

Develop Closer Relationships Between Fathers and Children (Insights in Prophets)

4/28/2013

Picture
To release God's healing for closer heart relationships between fathers and children, surrender your heart to teach whole Bible so you create desire for instruction, unified marriage, purified people, hate oppression, give financially to God's kingdom and expect God to write a scroll of remembrance.

Surrender Your Heart to Show God's Greatness
Malachi told Israel that God showed love by loving Jacob and hating Esau. He turned his mountains into a wasteland called The Wicked Land.  God continually demolished it to prove His greatness to Israel. They did not honor and respect God like a son to His father. The priests despised His name by sacrificing crippled or diseased animals on the altar they would not offer to their governor. God was displeased and found these useless fires unacceptable. They shamed and cheated Him by sacrificing blemished animals instead of offering acceptable males they vowed to give. Israel was to show nations that God was to be feared as a great king (Mal. 1:1-14). Surrender your heart to show God's greatness to unbelievers.

Teach Whole Bible to Create Desire for Instruction
If priests did not set their heart to listen or honor God, He sent a curse and cut off their descendants. He made a covenant of life and peace with Levi so they could reverence His name. True instruction was in his mouth as he walked in peace and uprightness turning many from sin. Priests should preserve knowledge so men would seek instruction from the messenger of the Lord Almighty. But they turned from the way, violated the covenant with Levi and their teaching caused many to stumble. God caused them to be despised and humiliated before everyone since they did not follow His ways showing partiality in matters of the law (Mal. 2:1-9). Teach whole Bible to turn people from sin and create desire for instruction.

Guard Your Spirit for Unified Marriage to Bear Godly Offspring
Judah broke faith with one another by marrying the daughter of a foreign god. God did not accept their offerings because they broke their marriage bond through divorce. He sought godly offspring from the one flesh relationship between husband and wife. Husbands who guarded their spirit prevented breaking faith with the wife of their youth since God hated divorce (Mal. 2:10-16). Guard your spirit for unified marriage to bear godly offspring.

Participate with God to Purify His People and Hate Oppression
They wearied Him saying those who did evil were pleasing to Him and questioning whether there was a God of justice. No one could stand the refiner's fire of God's coming as He purified the Levites like gold and silver. Judah's and Jerusalem's righteous offerings would be acceptable. God would judge sorcerers, adulterers and perjurers. He was against those who defrauded laborers of their wages, oppressed the widows and fatherless, and deprived aliens of justice without fearing God (Mal. 2:17-3:5). Participate with God to purify His people and hate oppression of others.

Give Financially to God's Kingdom and Reap His Blessing
His people should return to God and His word so He would return to them. He cursed Israel because they robbed Him of tithes and offerings. Bringing the whole tithe into the storehouse brought food into His house. By testing Him, they saw Him open the floodgates of heaven to pour out so much blessing that there was no room for it. He prevented pests from devouring crops and fruit from their  fields. All nations called them blessed in a delightful land (Mal. 3:6-12). Give financially to God's kingdom and reap His blessing.

Expect God to Write a Scroll of Remembrance By Fearing Him
Israel said it was futile to serve God since evildoers prospered and those who challenged God escaped. The Lord listened and wrote a scroll of remembrance for people who feared Him and talked with each other. He distinguished between those who served God as His treasured possession and those who did not (Mal. 3:13-18). Expect God to write a scroll of remembrance by fearing Him.

Release God's Healing for Closer Heart Relationships Between Fathers and Children
A day would come to burn the arrogant and every evildoer. For those who revered God's name, the sun of righteousness would rise with healing so they leaped like calves released from the stall. They trampled down the wicked like ashes under their feet. Malachi commanded Israel to remember the law God gave Moses at Horeb. He would send Elijah before the dreadful day of the Lord to turn the hearts of fathers to their children and hearts of children to their fathers or else curse the land (Mal. 4:1-6). Release God's healing for closer heart relationships between fathers and children.

To release God's healing for closer heart relationships between fathers and children:
1. Surrender your heart to teach whole Bible
2. Turn people from sin
3. Create desire for instruction
4. Guard your spirit for unified marriage
5. Bear godly children
6. Participate with God to purify His people
7. Hate oppression of others
8. Give financially to God's kingdom and reap His blessings
9. Expect God to write a scroll of remembrance

How to Pray To See Your Wounds Healed (Insights in Prophets)

4/22/2013

Picture
In the preceding book of Micah, you learned how to gain spiritual maturity in order to pray confidently so sin is defeated. Nahum explains how to pray in order to see your wounds healed. By praying God's attributes of goodness, sovereignty, power and truth, your wounds will be healed, especially the lust for control and materialism.

Trust God's Goodness Who Cares
Nahum said the Lord was a jealous God who poured out His wrath like fire against His enemies. He was slow to anger, great in power and did not leave the guilty unpunished. God dried up the sea, withered Bashan and Carmel and trembled the earth. No one withstood His indignation. The Lord was good and a refuge in times of trouble. He cared for those who trusted in Him. He made an end of Nineveh with an overwhelming flood and pursued His foes into darkness (Nahum 1:1-8). Trust God's goodness as a refuge who cares for you in times of trouble.

Trust God's Sovereignty to Bring Good News
God ended plots against Him. Nineveh would be cut down and not afflict Judah any more. God broke their yoke and tore shackles away. He commanded that Nineveh would have no descendants. God destroyed the carved images and cast idols in the temple of their gods. On the mountains was the feet who brought good news and proclaimed peace. Judah celebrated their festivals knowing the wicked would not invade them (Nahum 1:9-15). Trust God's sovereignty to bring the right people to proclaim good news and peace to break the yoke of sin.

Trust God's Power to Restore Health
The Lord would restore Israel's splendor even though the destroyers ruined their vines. Nineveh's troops stumbled and the palace collapsed. It was decreed that the city be exiled like a pool with water draining away. Her wealth was plundered and their hearts melted. God burnt their chariots in smoke and the sword devoured their young lions. The voices of their messengers were no longer heard (Nahum 2:1-13). Trust God's power to restore health and defeat spiritual enemies.

Trust God's Truth to Defeat Lust for Control
Nahum pronounced woe on the city of blood full of lies, plunder and victims because she had lust of a harlot and sorceries. Nineveh enslaved nations by prostitution and witchcraft. God was against her and showed nations her nakedness and shame. All who saw Nineveh said she was ruined and wondered if anyone could comfort her. She was no better than Thebes with Cush, Egypt, Put and Libya as allies and her strength. Thebes was also taken captive, exiled, infants killed and great men chained (Nahum 3:1-11). Trust God's truth to defeat lust for control.

Strengthen Your Spiritual Defenses to Defeat Materialism
Nineveh's fortresses were like fig trees when the first ripe fruit was shaken into the mouth of the eater. The gates of their land were wide open to their enemies with women as troops. They should have strengthened their defenses by repairing the brickwork since fire devoured them. They increased the number of merchants more than the stars who were like locusts that stripped the land. Their guards and officials were like swarms of locusts that flew away when the sun appeared (Nahum 3:12-17). Strengthen your spiritual defenses through prayer to defeat materialism.

Pray God's Attributes to Heal Your Wounds
Their shepherds slumbered, nobles lied down to rest and the people scattered on the mountains. Nothing could heal their wound since their injury was fatal. Everyone who heard news about them celebrated because they felt their endless cruelty (Nahum 3:18-19). Pray God's goodness, sovereignty, power and truth to heal your wounds.

The following explains how to pray in order to see your wounds healed:
1. Trust God's goodness who cares in times of trouble
2. Trust God's sovereignty to bring the right people who proclaim truth and peace
3. Trust God's power to restore health and defeat spiritual enemies
4. Trust God's truth to defeat lust for control
5. Strengthen your spiritual defenses through prayer to defeat materialism
6. Pray God's goodness, sovereignty, power and truth to heal your wounds

Fruitfulness Requires Spiritual Disciplines Founded Upon God's Word (Insights in Prophets)

4/10/2013

Picture
Fruitfulness requires spiritual disciplines founded upon God's word for His watchmen or ambassadors:
1. Sow righteousness and seek the Lord
2. Repent, remove the yoke and feed on His word for complete healing
3. Stop trusting in wealth but listen to His word through His designated spokesmen
4. Acknowledge God who cares, feeds and redeems you from death
5. Walk in God's ways with discernment to bear spiritual fruit

Lay Foundation in God's Word
Israel was unfaithful and loved the wages of a prostitute that failed to feed the people or please God. The days of reckoning were coming because of many sins and great hostility. The prophet was considered a fool and inspired man a maniac. The prophet and God were watchmen over Ephraim with snares awaiting them. Israel consecrated themselves to the shameful idol of Baal Peor and became vile like the thing they loved. God killed Ephraim's children because of their sinful deeds and rebellious leaders. The root withered and did not yield fruit (Hosea 9:1-17). Lay foundation in God's word to yield spiritual fruit as His watchman or ambassador.

Sow Righteousness and Seek the Lord
Israel was a spreading vine bringing fruit for themselves. God destroyed their altars and sacred stones. Their heart was deceitful saying they had no king because of not revering the Lord. Many promises caused lawsuits to spring up. They rejoiced over wickedness, but God destroyed the high places and put them in bonds. By sowing righteousness, they reaped the fruit of unfailing love. When they broke  up their unplowed ground by seeking the Lord, God showered righteousness on them. By planting wickedness, they reaped evil and ate the fruit of deception. By depending on their own strength of many warriors, their fortresses and Israel's king were completely destroyed (Hosea 10:1-15). Sow righteousness and seek the Lord to reap unfailing love and righteousness.

Repent and Remove the Yoke for Complete Healing Through His Word
God called Israel, His son, out of Egypt. However, they sacrificed to the Baals and burned incense to images. Israel did not realize that God healed by leading them with cords of love, lifting the yoke from their neck and bending down to feed them. By not repenting, they would return to Egypt with Assyria ruling them and war ending their plans. God, the Holy One, did not come in wrath. His people would follow the Lord when He roared like a lion. They would come trembling like birds from Egypt and doves from Assyria to settle in their homes (Hosea 11:1-11). Repent of sin and remove the yoke so you can be fed His word for complete healing.

Stop Trusting in Wealth But Listen to Word-Oriented Spokesmen
Ephraim surrounded God with lies, Israel with deceit and Judah was unruly against Him. Ephraim multiplied lies and violence, made a treaty with Assyria and sent olive oil to Egypt. Jacob struggled with the angel and overcame him. He talked with the Lord God Almighty. Judah must return to God, maintain love and justice, and wait for God always. Ephraim boasted of his riches and wealth thinking no one would find sin in him. God spoke to the prophets, gave them many visions and told parables through them. The Lord used a prophet to bring Israel up from Egypt and to care for them (Hosea 12:1-14). Stop trusting in wealth but listen to His word through designated spokesmen.

Acknowledge God Who Cares, Feeds and Redeems You
Ephraim made cleverly fashioned silver idols or images that were the work of craftsmen. They were to acknowledge no God or Savior except the Lord. He brought them out of Egypt, cared and fed them in the desert. They became satisfied, proud and forgot God. He gave them a king in His anger and took him away in His wrath. God redeemed them from death without destruction (Hosea 13:1-16). Acknowledge God who cares, feeds and redeems you from death.

Walk in God's Ways with Discernment
Hosea told Israel to return to the Lord since sin was their downfall. They were to say to Him, "Forgive all our sins and receive us graciously, that we may offer the fruit of our lips." Assyria could not save them, but the fatherless found compassion in God. He healed their waywardness and loved them freely. God was like the dew to Israel so they could blossom like a lily. They sent down roots like a cedar of Lebanon and flourished like a vine. Their fruitfulness came from God. The wise and discerning understood these things. The righteous walked in God's ways that were right, but the rebellious stumbled in them (Hosea 14:1-9). Walk in God's ways with discernment to bear spiritual fruit.

Answer the following questions to determine if you are experiencing fruitfulness in your life:
1. Is God's word the foundation of your life?
2. Are you sowing righteousness and seeking the Lord?
3. Are you repenting of sin so you can remove the yoke from your life?
4. Are you feeding on God's word for complete healing?
5. Have you stopped trusting in wealth?
6. Are you listening to His word through designated spokesmen?
7. Do you acknowledge God in all circumstances of life knowing He cares, feeds and redeems you from futility?
8. Do you walk in  God's ways with wisdom and discernment?

Make Christ Your Leader (Insights in Prophets)

When Christ is your leader, you will unite as sons of the living God, speak tenderly to restore intimacy with God, love His people sacrificially so they seek redemption in Christ's blood, follow God's word to gain knowledge and understanding, admit guilt and seek Him for revival, expose your sin so you cry to Him for healing and seek God's approval for your actions to prevent futility.

Unite as Sons of the Living God
God told Hosea to take an adulterous wife because the land departed from the Lord. He married Gomer and she bore Jezreel (end kingdom of Israel), Lo-Ruhamah (not love Israel) and Lo-Ammi (not My people). Israel and Judah would be reunited as the sons of the living God with one leader (Hosea 1:1-11). Unite as sons of the living God.

Speak Tenderly to Restore Righteousness, Love and Intimacy with God
Rebuke Israel since she was not God's wife because of adultery and unfaithfulness. He made her like a desert, killed her with thirst and did not show His love to her children conceived in disgrace. God blocked her path with thornbushes and could not find her lovers that provided food, water and oil. She did not acknowledge that God gave her grain, new wine and oil along with gold and silver used for Baal. He exposed her lewdness before her lovers  and stopped all her appointed feasts. He ruined her vines and fig trees to pay for her lovers. God allured, led and spoke tenderly to her in the desert. He gave back her vineyards as a door of hope where she would call Him, 'my husband.' He removed the names of the Baals from her lips so they could lie down in safety with the animals. He betrothed them in righteousness, justice, love, compassion and faithfulness to acknowledge the Lord. God planted them in the land to say, 'You are my God.' (Hosea 2:1-23). Speak tenderly to restore righteousness, love and faithfulness for an intimate relationship with God in the body of Christ.

Love God's People Sacrificially So They Seek Redemption in Christ's Blood
The Lord told Hosea to love his adulterous wife like God loved the Israelites who turned to other gods. He bought her for 15 shekels of silver and ten bushels of barley to live purely with him to signify Israel without king, sacrifice, sacred stones, ephod or idol. Later the Israelites sought the Lord and David their king. They would come trembling to the Lord and His blessings in the last days (Hosea 3:1-5). Love God's people sacrificially so they seek redemption in Christ's blood.

Follow God's Word to Gain Knowledge, Understanding and Glory from Him
God said Israel had no faithfulness, no love and no acknowledgment of Him in the land. With cursing, lying, murder, stealing and adultery, the land mourned, people wasted away and were destroyed from lack of knowledge. By rejecting it, God rejected them as His priests. By ignoring God's law, He ignored their children. By sinning, priests exchanged their Glory for something disgraceful. Prostitution, idolatry, adultery, drinking and deserting God removed understanding, led them astray and caused ruin. Rulers loved shameful ways (Hosea 4:1-19). Follow God's word to gain knowledge, understanding and glory from Him.

Admit Guilt and Seek God for Revival
God disciplined the rebels from corrupt deeds that turned them away from Him. A spirit of  prostitution was in their heart by not acknowledging the Lord. Arrogance prevented them from finding God. Ephraim was oppressed, judged and pursued idols. She turned to Assyria for help but was unable to heal her sores. God was like a lion tearing Ephraim and Judah to pieces. In misery, they admitted their guilt and earnestly sought His face. By returning to God, He healed, bound up their wounds, revived them after two days and restored so they could live in His presence. God appeared like the spring rains that water the earth when they sought to know Him.  He desired mercy, not sacrifice and acknowledgment of God, instead of burnt offerings. They broke the covenant in unfaithfulness, murder and prostitution. A harvest was appointed when He restored the fortunes of His people (Hosea 5:1-6:11).
Admit guilt and earnestly seek God for revival, restoration, mercy and intimacy.

Expose Your Sin So You Cry Out to God for Healing
Before healing could take place, sins of deceit, lying, adultery, drinking, mocking anger and prayerlessness must be exposed and revealed. Ephraim mixing with the nations sapped his strength without realizing it. Israel's arrogance prevented him from returning to the Lord. Ephraim was easily deceived while turning to Egypt and Assyria before being destroyed. They spoke lies against God and did not cry out to Him from their hearts. He trained and strengthened them but they plotted evil against God. Their leaders fell by the sword because of insolent words (Hosea 7:1-16). Expose your sin so you cry out to God for healing, training and strengthening.

Seek God's Approval for Your Actions to Prevent Futility
Israel rejected what was good. They set up kings and chose princes without God's approval. They made idols for themselves from silver and gold to their own destruction. They sowed the wind and reaped the whirlwind. Ephraim's sin offerings became altars for sinning. They regarded the law as something alien. Because the Lord was not pleased with their sacrifices, He punished their sins. Israel forgot his Maker and God sent fire to consume their fortresses (Hosea 8:1-14). Seek God's approval for your actions to prevent futility.

When Christ is your leader, you will:
1. Unite as sons of the living God
2. Speak tenderly to restore intimacy with God

3. Love His people sacrificially to seek redemption
4. Follow God's word to gain knowledge and understanding
5. Admit guilt and seek Him for revival
6. Expose your sin so you cry to Him for healing
7. Seek God's approval for your actions

Maintaining the Right Perspective About Yourself (Insights in Prophets)

2/14/2013

Picture
"In the upshot there is only one answer for the preacher who wonders whether he is worthy to preach the sermon he has composed or for the writer who wonders whether he is worthy to write the religious book he is working on. The answer is: Of course not. To ask yourself: Am I worthy to perform this Christian task? is really the peak of pride and presumption. For the very question carries the implication that we spend most of our time doing things we are worthy to do. We simply do not have that kind of worth" (Harry Blamires).

To maintain the right perspective about yourself,
do the next thing; obey God's word at every point; refuse seeking greater things for yourself; realize that discipline by God and fathers lead to healing; do Lord's work heartily and reject pride; and beware of boasting in accomplishments, riches, comfort and self-confidence.

Serve the City By Doing the Next Thing
The commander of the guard told Jeremiah that the Lord took Israel captive to Babylon because of their sin and disobedience. Jeremiah stayed with Gedaliah, governor in Judah, with those left behind. Gedaliah told them to settle in the land and serve the Babylonians so it would go well with them. Jews from other countries like Moab, Ammon and Edom came back to Judah and harvested much wine and summer fruit after hearing a remnant remained in the land. When Gedaliah did not heed warnings, Ishmael killed him along with the Jews at Mizpah, Babylonian soldiers, and 70 men bringing grain offerings and incense. After Ishmael made captives of everyone in Mizpah, Johanan and the army officers fought him before Ishmael fled to the Ammonites. Johanan gathered the survivors in Mizpah before traveling to Egypt to escape the Babylonians (Jer. 40:1-41:18). Serve the city by doing the next thing during times of instability and sinfulness.

Obey God's Word at Every Point
Johanan asked Jeremiah to pray about where they should go and what they should do as a small remnant. After agreeing to hold nothing back concerning what God said to him, they told Jeremiah about their commitment to total obedience so it would go well with them. Ten days later, the Lord said for them to stay in the land  to build and not tear down and to plant and not uproot for He grieved over the disaster inflicted upon them. They were to not fear the Babylonian king since God would save, deliver, show compassion and restore them to their land. If they decided to go to Egypt, the sword and famine would kill them as an object of cursing, condemnation and reproach. Jeremiah said they made a fatal mistake asking him to pray for them (Jer. 42:1-22). Obey God's word at every point so things go well for you.

Refuse Seeking Greater Things For Yourself
Johanan, army officers and the people disobeyed the Lord's command to stay in Judah. He led them to Egypt. God's word came to Jeremiah to bury large stones in clay in the brick pavement at the entrance to Pharaoh's palace in Tahpanhes. Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon would attack Egypt and bring death and captivity to those destined for it. He would burn the temples, take their gods captive and demolish the sacred pillars. Burning incense to other gods led to destruction as an object of cursing and reproach among all nations. When they burned incense to the Queen of Heaven, they reported about food abundance without suffering harm. God would overthrow what He built and uproot what He planted throughout the land. They should not seek great things for themselves since He would bring disaster on all people but let them escape with their life (Jer. 43:1-45:5). Refuse seeking greater things for yourself that disobey God's word leading to death and destruction.

Realize that Discipline By God Leads to Healing
God instructed Egypt's army to prepare for battle even though Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon would defeat them. The swift could not flee nor the strong escape. They experienced no healing, missed opportunities and put to shame. The Lord Almighty punished Egypt's gods and those who relied on Pharaoh. Jacob had peace and security without fear as God disciplined them with justice.  When the waters overflowed the Philistines' land, God destroyed the survivors who could help Tyre and Sidon. He commanded an attack on Ashkelon while people cried out and fathers failed to help their children (Jer. 46:1-47:7). Realize that discipline by God and fathers lead to healing, opportunities, peace and security.

Do Lord's Work Heartily and Reject Pride
God ruined Nebo and disgraced the stronghold of Kiriathaim in Moab. Heshbon men plotted her downfall to silence Moab. Those who trusted in their deeds and riches were taken captive and destroyed. A curse fell on those lax in doing the Lord's work and who kept their sword from bloodshed. Moab was ashamed because of idleness, pride, conceit, arrogance and having a haughty heart. God destroyed their ripened fruit and grapes. He stopped the flow of wine from their presses and eliminated joy, gladness and wealth. Moab became an object of ridicule and horror to those around her.  The hearts of Moab's warriors became like a woman in labor. Defying the Lord caused them to be destroyed as a nation. Even though their sons and daughters were taken in exile and captivity, God restored their fortunes in the future (Jer. 48:1-47). Do the Lord's work heartily and reject pride in your own works.

Beware of Boasting in Accomplishments, Riches, Comfort and Self-Confidence
Molech took possession of Gad so Israel had no sons or heirs. Even though Ammon boasted in their fruitful valleys  and trusted in their riches, God restored their fortunes in the future. God said wisdom and counsel perished from the prudent in Edom. He protected the orphans and widows who trusted in God. Their pride deceived them even though they lived in the clefts of the rocks. No shepherd could stand against God. Damascus became feeble, gripped with panic, and seized with anguish and pain. Her young men died and soldiers were silenced. Nebuchadnezzar devised a plan against Kedar and Hazor who lived alone at ease without gates nor bars. God broke the bow of Elam, the mainstay of their might, and destroyed her king and officials (Jer. 49:1-39). Beware of boasting in accomplishments, riches, comfort and self-confidence.

To maintain the right perspective about yourself, ask God to develop the following characteristics in your life:
1. Do the next thing

2. Obey God's word at every point
3. Refuse seeking greater things for yourself
4. Realize that discipline by God and fathers lead to healing
5. Do Lord's work heartily and reject pride
6. Beware of boasting in accomplishments, riches, comfort and self-confidence
Which one will you work on first?
