In order to develop a biblical worldview, speak against false teaching, transform mindsets by repenting of idols in your heart, use your fame to help the poor and needy, refuse trusting in human strategies, repent and get a new heart and spirit, serve and obey God so the world can see Him, and be broken over a community's sin since God exalts the lowly.

Speak Against False Teaching
God told Ezekiel to prophesy against Israel's prophets who spoke out of their imaginations with false visions. They did not repair the breaks in Israel's wall so it would stand firm in battle. God was against their false words and lying visions that led people astray. They said peace when there was no peace. It was like covering a flimsy, whitewashed wall that God tore down. Ezekiel set his face against the daughters of Israel who ensnared peoples' lives but preserved their own. Their lies killed those who should not have died and spared those who should not live. God saved Israel from the lies that disheartened the righteous and encouraged the wicked not to turn from their evil ways to save their lives. Then they would know He was God (Ezek. 13:1-23). Speak against false teaching that ensnare the righteous and encourage the wicked.

Transform Mindsets By Repenting of Idols in Your Heart
God told Ezekiel that Israel's elders set up idols in their hearts with wicked stumbling blocks. The Lord answered those with idols in their hearts who inquired of God. He recaptured the hearts of Israel who deserted God. They repented, turned from idols and renounced evil practices. God destroyed the prophets who bore their guilt. Israel no longer strayed from Him. A righteous person only could save himself and not his country or other family members. Each person was responsible for their sin. God had cause for judging by sword, famine, wild beasts and plague to kill men and animals. He made Jerusalem an useless vine like wood burned in a fire (Ezek. 14:1-15:8). Transform mindsets by repenting of idolatry in your heart.

Use Your Fame to Help the Poor and Needy
God told Ezekiel to confront Jerusalem's evil practices. He made a covenant and dressed them in fine linen. Their fame spread among the nations because of their beauty. They trusted in beauty and used their fame to become a prostitute. They  lavished favors on those who passed by, made male idols for prostitution to Egypt, Assyria and Babylonia, and sacrificed children to idols. They copied Sodom's evil practices and became more depraved than they. Sodom was arrogant, overfed, unconcerned  and did not help the poor and needy. God made atonement and they were ashamed for what they did. They never opened their mouth because of their humiliation (Ezek. 16:1-63). Use your fame and beauty for humility, concern and helping the poor and needy.

Refuse Trusting in Human Strategies
God told Ezekiel that a great eagle broke off a branch. He planted it and seed in fertile soil within a city of traders. It produced branches, fruit and a large vine by abundant water to represent Israel taken captive in Babylon. The king rebelled against Babylon by sending envoys to Egypt to get horses and a large army. It was no help in war to know that God was Lord (Ezek. 17:1-24). Refuse trusting in human strategies that fail in spiritual warfare.

Repent and Get a New Heart and Spirit
God told Ezekiel that people no longer quoted the proverb saying fathers ate sour grapes and the children's teeth were set on edge. Both father and son belonged to God. The soul who sinned died, but the righteous lived. Sons died for their own sin and fathers for theirs. They did not share the guilt of the other. The righteousness of the righteous man was credited to him and wickedness of the wicked charged against him. God took no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but pleased when they turn from their ways and lived. Israel's ways were unjust when they said God's ways were unjust. They must repent and turn from their offenses so sin would not be their downfall. They must rid themselves from all offenses and get a new heart and a new spirit (Ezek. 18:1-32). Repent, turn from sin, and get a new heart and spirit.

Serve and Obey God So World Can See Him
Nations came against Israel and they were brought to Babylon. The branch was stripped of its fruit and planted in the desert. Fire consumed the fruit of the branch. Some elders of Israel inquired of the Lord. He told them to eliminate vile images so they would not be defiled by Egypt's idols. God led them out of Egypt into the desert where He gave laws to obey. Israel disobeyed Him for their eyes lusted after their fathers' idols. They wanted to be like the nations who served wood and stone. On the holy mountain, Israel served God who gathered them from the nations where they were scattered. He showed Himself through Israel before the nations (Ezek. 19:1-20:49). Serve and obey God so the world can see Him.

Be Broken Over Community's Sin Since God Exalts the Lowly
Ezekiel set his face against Israel to cut off the righteous and  the wicked. God told him to groan with broken heart and bitter grief. Israel despised His discipline and all advice. The sword struck three times for great slaughter and captivity to melt hearts. God exalted the lowly and brought low the exalted (Ezek. 21:1-32). Be broken over a community's sin since God exalts the lowly and humbles the exalted.

In order to develop a biblical worldview, do the following:
1.  Speak against false teaching

2.  Transform mindsets by repenting of idols in your heart
3.  Use your fame to help the poor and needy

4.  Refuse trusting in human strategies
5.  Repent and get a new heart and spirit
6.  Serve and obey God so the world can see Him
7.  Be broken over a community's sin since God exalts the lowly

Spread God's Glory and Holiness in Your City (Insights in Prophets)

In order to spread God's glory and holiness in your city, reject idols and pride, see God's glory, grieve over evil, speak God's word, trust God for new heart, and communicate object lessons to motivate obedience.

Reject Confidence in Money, Idols and Pride
The Lord told Ezekiel that the end came to Israel with judgment, disaster and wrath because of their evil conduct. They would know He was the Lord. Arrogance and violence grew into a rod to punish wickedness. The seller would not recover the land he sold. Those in the country died by the sword and those in the city were devoured by famine and plague. Those escaping in the mountains moaned like doves with every knee weak as water. Money and idols failed to save them. The land was full of bloodshed and the city full of violence. Wicked nations took possession of their houses and ended the pride of the mighty. The teaching by priests and counsel from elders were lost. The king mourned, the prince despaired and the people trembled (Ezek. 7:1-27).  Reject confidence in money, idols and pride instead of God's word as they cause despair, famine and plague.

See God's Glory to Discern Jealousy and Idolatry
The Spirit showed Ezekiel a vision in Jerusalem where he saw God's glory, the idol of jealousy and evil things Israel was doing. On the walls he saw all kinds of detestable animals and idols of Israel. In front of them stood 70 elders with a censer in each of their hands while a fragrant cloud of incense rose. God asked Ezekiel if he saw what the elders did in darkness at the shrine of their own idol. They replied that the Lord did not see them since He forsook the land. Ezekiel then saw women mourning for Tammuz. In the inner court at the entrance to the temple were about 25 men bowing down to the sun. The Lord said they filled the land with violence and He would respond in anger (Ezek. 8:1-18). See God's glory to discern jealousy, idolatry, religiosity and immorality by church leaders and the congregation.

Grieve Over Evil and Injustice to Receive His Protection
Six city guards with a weapon accompanied a man clothed in linen who had a writing kit at his side. The Lord told the man to go throughout Jerusalem and put a mark on the foreheads of those who grieved over the evil things done in it. He told them to kill old and young men, maidens, women and children but not touch anyone with the mark. The Lord said Israel's and Judah's sin were great, land full of bloodshed and city full of injustice. People forsook the land and said the Lord did not see. The man in linen said he did what God commanded (Ezek. 9:1-11). Grieve over evil and injustice to receive protection from God.

Spread God's Glory and Holiness in Your City
The Lord told the man in linen to scatter burning coals from the cherubim over the city. The cloud filled the temple and the court was full of the radiance of God's glory. The sound of the cherubim's wings was heard like the voice of the God Almighty. The Lord commanded the man in linen to take fire from among the wheels in the cherubim. Ezekiel saw the vision described in chapter one. God's glory departed from the temple. He realized that they were cherubim with four faces and four wings. Under their wings looked like the hands of a man (Ezek. 10:1-22). Spread God's glory and holiness in your city.

Speak God's Word to Counteract Worldly Advice
The Spirit brought Ezekiel to the gate of the temple where 25 men stood who plotted evil and gave wicked advice to the city. God told Ezekiel to prophesy against people being killed in the city and streets filled with the dead. The bodies represented the meat and the city was the pot, but God drove them out of it. He would bring the sword, drive them out of the city, hand them over to foreigners and inflict punishment. They would know that He was Lord since they did not follow His laws but conformed to the world's standards. While Ezekiel  prophesied, Peletiah died (Ezek. 11:1-15). Speak God's word to counteract worldly advice.

Trust God for New Heart that Empowers Obedience
God gathered them from among the nations where they scattered and brought them back to Israel. He removed their vile images and idols, gave them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them. He removed their heart of stone and gave them a heart of flesh to follow His laws as God's people. He would judge those whose hearts were devoted to vile images and idols. God's glory above the cherubim went up from within the city and stopped above the mountain east of it. The Spirit brought Ezekiel to the exiles in Babylonia in the vision given by Him. He told the exiles everything the Lord showed him (Ezek. 11:16-25). Trust God for a new heart and spirit that empowers obedience to His word.

Communicate Object Lessons to Motivate Obedience
God told Ezekiel that he lived among a rebellious people who had eyes to see but did not see and ears to hear but did not hear. Ezekiel became a sign when he packed his belongings for exile and went to another place. He covered  his face and dug through a wall in the evening so they could understand. Israel asked what he was doing. Ezekiel said it was sign that they would be sent into exile as captives. They would know that He was Lord when God scattered them through the countries. He spared a few from the sword, famine and plague so they would acknowledge their evil practices. They would eat their food in anxiety and drink their water in despair since their land was desolate. God would end their proverb that every vision came to nothing.  Days were near when every vision would be fulfilled and end false visions or flattering divinations. God would not delay His visions any longer (Ezek. 12:1-28). Communicate object lessons to motivate obedience showing how God fulfills His word when people recognize their great need.

Ask God do the following in your city to see His glory and holiness spread in your city:
1. Reject confidence in money, idols and pride
2. See God's glory to discern jealousy and idolatry
3. Grieve over evil and injustice to receive His protection
4. Speak God's word to counteract worldly advice
5. Trust God for a new heart and spirit that empowers obedience
6. Communicate object lessons to motivate obedience

How to Confront Sin (Insight in Prophets)

Picture
“Indeed the safest road to Hell is the gradual one--the gentle slope, soft underfoot, without sudden turnings, without milestones, without signposts,...Your affectionate uncle, Screwtape" (C.S. Lewis, The Screwtape Letters).

To have boldness to confront sin, hear God's word and see His glory. Listen to the Holy Spirit and speak God's word. Warn people of their sin using object lessons. Open your mouth when God speaks and be silent when He desires. Obey God so you don't waste away in anxiety, despair and slavery. Prophesy God's word against lust of idols.

Hear God's Word and See His Glory
Ezekiel saw visions of God when the heavens opened and His word came to him in Babylon. He saw an immense cloud with flashing lightning surrounded by brilliant light. In the fire looked like four living creatures with four faces and four wings each. Their wings touched one another. Each one had a face of a man and an eagle, on the right side a face of a lion with an ox on the left. The appearance of the living creatures was like burning coals of fire moving back and forth. Ezekiel saw a wheel sparkling like chrysolite on the ground beside each creature and intersecting one another. They went in all four directions and the four rims were full of eyes all around. Wherever the spirit would go, the living creatures and wheels went. When the creatures moved, Ezekiel heard the sound of their wings like the roar of rushing waters or voice of the Almighty. Above the expanse over the heads of the creatures looked like a throne of sapphire. High above on the throne was a figure like a man. From his waist up looked like glowing metal full of fire with brilliant light surrounding him, which was the glory of the Lord (Ezek. 1:1-28). Hear God's word and see His glory when the Holy Spirit reveals it.

Listen to the Spirit and Speak God's Word
The Spirit told Ezekiel that He was being sent to the rebellious and stubborn people of Israel. They would know a prophet was among them. He should not fear or be terrified even though he lived among thorns and scorpions. Ezekiel must speak His words whether they listened or not. He must listen to the Spirit, not rebel like rebellious Israel, open his mouth and eat what was given him. He saw a scroll with written words of lament, mourning and woe written on both sides. The Spirit told Ezekiel to eat the scroll, speak to Israel, open his mouth and fill his stomach with it. He ate the scroll and it tasted as sweet as honey in his mouth. They would not listen to Ezekiel because they were not willing to listen to God. Israel was hardened, but did not have an obscure or difficult language. He would make him harder than flint. After the Spirit took him away with bitterness and anger to the exiles living at Tel Aviv, he sat overwhelmed for seven days (Ezek. 2:1-3:15). Listen to the Spirit and speak God's words whether people listen or not.

Warn People of Their Sin
When seven days were complete, God made Ezekiel a watchman to hear His word and warn Israel for Him. When God told a wicked man he would die and Ezekiel did not warn him from his evil ways to save his life, he died for his sin. God held Ezekiel accountable for his blood. If Ezekiel warned the evil man and he did not turn from his wickedness, he died for sin and Ezekiel saved himself. When a righteous man did evil and God put a stumbling block before him, he would die. Since Ezekiel did not warn him, he died for his sin and the righteous things were not remembered. Ezekiel was held accountable for his blood. If Ezekiel warned a righteous man not to sin and took the warning, he lived and Ezekiel saved himself (Ezek. 3:16-21).  Warn people of their sin so they are rescued and you are not  accountable for their blood.

Open Your Mouth When God Speaks
The Lord told Ezekiel to go out to the plain where He would speak to him. There stood God's glory similar to what he saw earlier. The Spirit told him to shut himself inside his house where he was bound with ropes to prevent him from going out. He made his tongue stick to the roof of his mouth to keep him silent unable to rebuke the rebellious house. When God spoke to him, He opened his mouth saying that whoever listened, let him listen and whoever refused, let him refuse (Ezek. 3:22-27). Open your mouth when God speaks and be silent when He desires.

Obey God to Not Waste Away
God told Ezekiel to draw the city of Jerusalem on a clay tablet, erect siege works against it and battering rams around it. As a sign to Israel, he took an iron pan as a wall between him and the city in order to besiege it. God instructed him to lie 390 days on his left side, eat bread and 20 shekels of food using human excrement as fuel. It represented placing 390 years of Israel's sin upon himself and eating defiled food among the nations God would drive them. Then he was to lie down 40 days on his right side to bear 40 years of Judah's sin. God said Jerusalem would eat rationed food in anxiety and drink rationed water in despair because of scarcity. They would waste away because of their sin (Ezek. 4:1-17). Obey God to not waste away in anxiety, despair and slavery.

Use Object Lessons to Warn People
God told Ezekiel to shave his head and burn some of it representing fire and sword spreading to whole house of Israel. He said Jerusalem rebelled against God's laws more than the nations around her. Because of their idols, fathers ate their children and children their fathers. God withdrew His favor because they defiled His sanctuary with vile images and practices. A third of the people died of the plague or famine, another third by the sword outside their walls and a third scattered to the winds being pursued with drawn sword. Jerusalem became a ruin and reproach among the nations with famine, wild beasts, plague, bloodshed and sword against them (Ezek. 5:1-17). Use object lessons to warn people of the deadly consequences of sin or idols leading to famine or plagues.

Prophesy God's Word Against Lust of Idols
Ezekiel heard God's word to prophesy against Israel that a sword destroyed high places, demolished altars, smashed incense altars and killed people in front of their idols. They knew He was Lord. Those who escaped the sword remembered God's grief over their adulterous hearts lusting after idols. They loathed themselves for their evil and knew He was Lord. He made the land a desolate waste from the desert to Diblah (Ezek. 6:1-14). Prophesy God's word against the lust of idols because people hate themselves even though they know He is Lord.

Listen for God's word and see His glory so you are empowered to confront sin.

Deploy mentors to rebuild the body of Christ according to God's design by taking the following steps:

1. Appoint mentors who counsel and lead people to Christ
2. Trust God for power and direction to fight the spiritual battle
3. Show strength by tearing down idols
4. Obey God wholeheartedly and employ people and resources He provides
5. Prepare mentors who humbly use appropriate technology platforms
6. Stop envying, worshiping and promoting false gods

Appoint Mentors Who Counsel and Lead People to Christ
Jehoshaphat with great wealth and honor allied himself with Ahab king of Israel by marriage. He told Ahab to seek God's counsel before deciding whether to attack Ramoth Gilead. The prophets said their attack would be victorious and urged agreement from Micaiah. He said Israel was scattered like sheep without a shepherd and should go home in peace. Micaiah said the Lord put a lying spirit in the prophets to lure Ahab into attacking Ramoth Gilead so he would be killed. After disguising himself, a random arrow hit Ahab between the sections of armor and killed him. The Lord protected Jehoshaphat. He turned the people from Beersheba to Ephraim back to Him and appointed judges in the fortified cities of Judah. In Jerusalem, he appointed some Levites, priests and heads of Israelite families who administered the law of the Lord, settled disputes and warned them not to sin (2 Chron. 18:1-19:11). Appoint mentors who counsel and lead people to Christ so they do not sin.

Trust God for Power and Direction to Fight the Spiritual Battle
When Moabites and Ammonites made war, Jehoshaphat proclaimed a fast so Judah could seek help from God. He prayed to the Ruler over all nations whose power and might drove out inhabitants of the land. He gave it forever to Abraham's descendants His friend. Jehoshaphat asked God to judge Ammon and Moab since Judah had no power. They did not know what to do but their eyes were upon Him. His Spirit told Jehoshaphat not to be fear or be discouraged because the battle was not his but God's. He told him to march the next day and not fight the battle but take up their positions, stand firm and see God's deliverance. Jehoshaphat told Judah and Jerusalem to have faith in God and His prophets to be successful. After men sang and praised the splendor of His holiness and enduring love, the Lord set ambushes against Ammon and Moab to defeat them. The fear of the Lord came upon all countries when they heard how God fought against Israel's enemies (2 Chron. 20:1-37). Trust God for power and direction to fight the spiritual battle by standing firm and seeing His deliverance.

Show Strength By Tearing Down Idols
Jehoram king of Judah did evil marrying Ahab's daughter but God's covenant prevented Him from destroying the house of David. Edom and Libnah rebelled against Judah because Jehoram forsook the Lord and led them astray. Elijah sent a letter saying Jehoram did not walk like Jehoshaphat or Asa as he murdered his own brothers. God carried away his family and afflicted him with an incurable bowel disease. Jehoram's son, Ahaziah, followed evil counsel to his undoing leading to death. The priest Jehoiada showed his strength by making a covenant with him, the people and the king as the Lord's people. They tore down the temple of Baal, smashed the altars and idols and killed Mattan the priest of Baal. Jehoiada gave Levites oversight of the temple to present burnt offerings. He stationed doorkeepers at the gates of the temple so no unclean person could enter (2 Chron. 21:1-23:21). Show strength by tearing down idols and pursuing purity.

Deploy Mentors to Rebuild Body of Christ
Joash did right in the eyes of the Lord all the years of Jehoiada the priest. Later, Joash decided to repair the temple by calling priests and Levites to collect money due annually from towns in Judah. The king asked the chief priest why he did not require the Levites to collect as they delayed. The wicked woman Athaliah broke into the temple and used its sacred objects for the Baals. The men in charge of the masons and carpenters restoring the Lord's temple were diligent. The repairs reinforced the temple in iron and bronze according to its original design. Burnt offerings were presented continually in the temple while Jehoiada lived. After Jehoiada died, Judah officials abandoned the temple, worshiped idols and ignored God's word. Forsaking the Lord prevented prosperity and led to judgment and death (2 Chron. 24:1-27). Deploy mentors to rebuild the body of Christ immediately according to God's design.

Obey God Wholeheartedly and Employ People and Resources He Provides
Amaziah did what was right in God's eyes but not wholeheartedly. He did not put sons to death according to the Law that each was to die for their own sins. He assigned Judah's families according to commanders of thousands and hundreds. He mustered 300,000 men for military service who could handle the spear and shield. He hired 100,000 from Israel for 100 talents of silver. A man of God said to not hire Israelite troops because he would be defeated and given more than the 100 talents. Amaziah sent these troops home and killed 20,000 men of Seir. After burning sacrifices to Seir's gods, God sent a prophet saying he would be destroyed by not listening to His counsel. Jehoash king of Israel said Amaziah was proud and should stay home instead of fighting and causing his downfall. Amaziah did not listen so God handed them over to Jehoash because he sought Edom's gods. Jehoash routed Judah; captured Amaziah; broke down Jerusalem's walls; took gold, silver and articles in the temple; took palace treasures and hostages (2 Chron. 25:1-28). Obey God wholeheartedly and employ people and resources He provides with proper administration.

Prepare Mentors Who Humbly Use Appropriate Technology Platforms
Uzziah sought Him and Zechariah instructed him in the fear of God. By seeking Him, God gave him success. He went to war against the Philistines; broke down the walls of Gath  and rebuild towns near Ashdod among the Philistines. God helped him against the Philistines and Arabs. The Ammonites brought tribute to Uzziah and his fame spread all the way to Egypt. He dug many cisterns and worked people in his fields, vineyards and fertile lands. Uzziah had 307,500 well-trained fighting men ready separated by divisions and 2,600 family leaders over them for support against his enemies. He provided shields, spears, helmets, coats of armor, bows and sling stones for the entire army. In Jerusalem he made machines designed by skillful men for use on the towers and corner defenses to shoot arrows and hurl large stones. After becoming powerful, Uzziah's pride led to his downfall. When he entered the temple to burn incense, the priests confronted him since only Aaron's descendants were consecrated to burn incense. Uzziah raged at the priests before the incense altar and the Lord afflicted him with leprosy until he died (2 Chron. 26:1-23). Prepare mentors for spiritual warfare who humbly use appropriate technology platforms.

Stop Envying, Worshiping and Promoting False Gods
Jothan did what was right in God's eyes while not entering the temple like Uzziah. The people continued their corrupt practices. Jothan rebuild the Upper Gate of the temple and worked extensively on the wall at the hill of Ophel. He conquered the Ammonites who paid him a 100 talents of silver and 10,000 cors each for wheat and barley including the same amount in the second and third years. He  grew powerful because he walked steadfastly before the Lord. Ahaz cast idols for worshiping the Baals, burned sacrifices and sacrificed his sons in the fire following the evil ways of the nations the Lord drove out before the Israelites. God handed him over to be defeated by the Arameans and king of Israel so many people became prisoners and killed. One day Pekah killed 120,000 soldiers in Judah because they forsook the Lord. The Israelites took captive 200,000 wives, sons and daughters. Oded the prophet told Israel they were also guilty of sins against God. When Ahaz asked the king of Assyria for help, the Edomites and Philistines carried away prisoners, raided towns, captured and occupied villages. The Lord humbled Judah because Ahaz promoted wickedness being unfaithful to God. He sacrificed to the gods of Aram thinking they would help him like their kings. He took away the temple furnishings, shut the temple doors and set up altars at every street corner in Jerusalem (2 Chron. 27:1-28:27). Stop envying, worshiping and promoting false gods that appear to help other people.

Ask God to raise up mentors who will rebuild the body of Christ immediately according to His design.

How God Transforms and Multiplies Disciples (Insights in Prophets)

11/11/2012

"All of us have wondered at times why God doesn't do more to fix our problems. But our human eyes often fail to see that God isn't rushing to change our circumstances because he is concerned with a much more serious problem - our character. While you struggle with the woes of this world, God's main occupation is preparing you for the world to come. The focus of what God is doing in your life takes place in you, not around you" (Andy Stanley).

God transforms and multiplies disciples by removing obstacles, bringing righteousness and strength, setting captives free, destroying wrong thinking, refining His people and leading people in the right way. Through this process, people experience peace leading to multiplied disciples.

God Transforms People

God told His servant Jacob whom He chose and helped to not fear since He poured water on thirsty land and streams on dry ground. He poured out His Spirit and blessing so His descendants understood they belonged  to Him. Israel was His witness to proclaim that there was no other God or Rock than Him.  Those who made idols were blind, ignorant and shameful. The idols they treasured were worthless. Craftsmen, blacksmiths and carpenters shaped idols in the form of man in all his glory to worship them as their god. They misunderstood that a block of wood could not save them. Their heart lied to them since they could not save themselves. Israel must return to God since He redeemed and swept away their sins like a morning mist. He displayed His glory through creation. God overthrew false prophets and the learning of the wise. He fulfilled His servants' predictions. God restored the ruins in Jerusalem and Judah. He directed Cyrus as His shepherd to rebuild Jerusalem and lay the foundations of the temple (Is. 44:1-28). God displays His glory in transforming people by revealing the worthlessness of idols.

God Removes Obstacles
God used Cyrus to subdue nations and open doors. God went before Israel to level mountains, break down gates of bronze and cut through bars of iron. He gave them riches stored in secret places so they would know the true Lord. He called them by name, bestowed a title of honor and strengthened them even though they did not acknowledge God. He showed the whole earth that there was no other god except the Lord who formed light, created darkness, brought prosperity and created disaster. God rained down righteousness so salvation would spring up. The clay cannot say to the potter, "What are you making?" or to his parents, "What have you brought to birth?" God made the earth and created mankind upon it. He raised up Cyrus to rebuild Jerusalem and set His exiles free. The products of Egypt and merchandise of Cush would be theirs when people saw God was with them. The makers of idols were shamed and disgraced, but Israel would have eternal salvation without shame or disgrace (Is. 45:1-17). God removes obstacles and opens doors in providing financial resources so the world can be saved.

God Brings Righteousness and Strength
God created the heavens and earth to be inhabited. He did not want Jacob's descendants to seek Him in vain. The righteous God and Savior called the earth to turn to Him and be saved. Every knee and tongue would bow saying that in the Lord alone was righteousness and strength. Everyone who raged against Him would be shamed, but in the Lord all Israel's descendants were found righteous and exulted (Is. 45:18-25). God enables His disciples to seek Him for  righteousness and strength.

God Sets Captives Free
The idols of Babylon, Bel and Nebo, were unable to rescue them from the weary burden and captivity to sin. God carried, sustained and rescued Israel from birth through old age. Comparing God to riches was futile since it could not save them from their troubles. He used men to fulfill His purpose planned from the beginning of time. His righteousness was near and would not be delayed as He granted salvation and splendor to Israel (Is. 46:1-13). God works through His people to set captives free from sin.

God Destroys Wrong Thinking
Babylon would no longer be called tender, delicate or the queen of kingdoms.  God took vengeance, exposed her nakedness and uncovered her shame. He was angry with His people and gave them into Babylon's hand. They showed no mercy with Israel and even laid a heavy yoke on the aged. Babylon lounged in security not knowing that widowhood and loss of children would occur on a single day. They trusted in wickedness and were misled in their wisdom, knowledge, self-sufficiency, magic spells and sorceries. Wrong counsel wore them out. They could not, along with anyone else, save themselves from the power of the flame (Is. 47:1-15). God exposes and destroys wrong thinking and self-sufficiency.

God Refines His People
Israel invoked God's name without truth and righteousness.
They called themselves citizens of the holy city but were stubborn like a bronze forehead. God announced new things before they happened so they could not say their idols ordained them. He tested and refined them in the furnace of affliction for His own name's sake. The Lord's chosen ally carried out His purpose against Babylon that God made successful (Is. 48:1-15). God tests and refines His people in the furnace of affliction for His name's sake.

God Leads People In Right Way
God taught Israel what was best and directed them in the way they should go. Their peace would be like a river and righteousness like the waves of the sea if they listened to His commands. Their descendants would be like sand and their name maintained before God. Announce their flight from Babylon with shouts of joy saying the Lord redeemed His servant Jacob. God led Israel and made water flow from the rock in the deserts. There was no peace for the wicked (Is. 48:16-22). God leads His people in the right way to experience peace and multiply disciples.

Ask God to transform and multiply disciples among yourself, family members and friends through the following process:
1. God reveals His glory by revealing the worthlessness of idols
2. God removes obstacles and opens doors in providing financial resources so the world can be saved
3.  God enables His disciples to seek Him for  righteousness and strength

How to Protect the Institution of Marriage (Insights in Law)

8/25/2012

Spiritually battle through prayer and  hearing God's word to do His will. Follow God and renew your thinking in Christ to prevent worldliness and idols.  Learn from the bad fruit of Israel's history when they did not follow the Lord. These spiritual disciplines equip you to do God's mission and discover your unique inheritance. Then you can exercise justice in the church and community to atone for bloodshed in the land, which will protect the institution of marriage.

Spiritually Battle
The Lord told Moses to take full vengeance on the Midianites using 1,000 men from each tribe along with Phinehas the priest who killed every male and five kings of Midian and Balaam.  Moses was angry they spared the women who followed Balaam as he caused them to sin against the Lord at Peor before the plague struck God’s people. He told them to kill every boy and women who had slept with a man along with purifying themselves, captives and clothes. Moses instructed them to count and divide the booty between the soldiers who fought the battle and the rest of the community. They levied a tax for the Lord from those who went out to battle, one in 500 persons and cattle as a half-share to give to Eleazar the priest as an offering to the Lord. They took one out of every 50 persons and cattle to give to the Levites who kept charge of the tabernacle. Moses and Eleazar took the gold articles to make atonement for themselves and brought it to the tent of meeting as a memorial for Israel before the Lord (Num. 31:1-54). All believers spiritually battle through prayer and hearing His word to do God's will.

Follow God
Reuben and Gad with large livestock herds asked Moses if they could possess Gilead on the east side of the Jordan. Moses asked why their brothers would go to war and be discouraged from crossing the Jordan into land the Lord gave them while they sat in Gilead. He accused them of following their fathers’ example of sinning in not following the Lord fully by taking the land and wandering 40 years in the wilderness. Reuben and Gad said they would build cities for their children and be armed and ready to cross the Jordan until Canaan was possessed. Moses said they would be free from obligation and gave Gad, Reuben and the half-tribe of Manasseh the land and cities of Sihon, king of the Amorites, kingdom of Og and king of Bashan. They drove out the Amorites who were in the land (Num. 32:1-42). Follow God fully to enable your family and congregation embrace His kingdom purpose.

Renew Thinking

Moses recorded the journeys of Israel coming out of Egypt by armies under his and Aaron’s leadership according to their starting places. Israel started out boldly and the Lord executed judgment on the Egyptian gods. After crossing the Jordan into Canaan, they drove out all the inhabitants of the land and destroyed the carved images and cast idols, and demolished all the high places to take possession and live in the land. They inherited it by lot according to their families with the larger ones getting more inheritance and smaller less. If they did not drive out the inhabitants of the land, those remaining became barbs in their eyes and thorns in their sides to give them trouble. Then God would do to Israel what He planned to do with them (Num. 33:1-56). Renew your thinking in Christ so you reject worldliness and  idols.

Do Mission

When they entered Canaan, the Lord through Moses gave specific boundaries for the land allotted to them as an inheritance. He assigned the land by lot as an inheritance to 9 ½ tribes because Reuben, Gad and half-tribe of Manasseh received theirs on the east side of the Jordan River. Eleazar the priest, Joshua and one leader from each tribe helped assign the land for an inheritance (Num. 34:1-29). Do God's mission and discover your unique inheritance.

Exercise Justice

Moses commanded Israel to give the Levites cities and pasture lands surrounding them to live in according to specific dimensions. Six cities of refuge (three on each side of the Jordan) were assigned so someone who killed a person accidentally could flee and 42 other towns were given to the Levites in proportion to the inheritance of each tribe. The cities of refuge would be places to protect someone accused of murder before he stood trial with the murderer put to death. The accused would stay in the city of refuge until the death of the high priest and then could return to his own property. Anyone killing a person would be put to death on the testimony of at least two witnesses. Bloodshed polluted the land and atonement could only be made for the land by shedding the blood of the one responsible. Do not defile the land where you live for God dwelled among the Israelites (Num. 35:1-34). Exercise justice in the church and community to atone for polluting the land with bloodshed.

Protect Marriage

The Lord commanded Moses to give land by lot to Israel as an inheritance and to give the inheritance of Zelophehad to his daughters. If they married sons from other tribes, their inheritance would be withdrawn and added to the inheritance of the tribe they married into. When the Year of Jubilee came, their inheritance would be added to the tribe into which they married and property taken from the tribal inheritance of their forefathers. They could marry anyone they pleased within the tribal clan of their father. No inheritance could be transferred from tribe to tribe, for every Israelite would keep the tribal land inherited from his forefathers. Zelophehad’s daughters married within the clans of the descendants of Manasseh and their inheritance remained in their father’s clan and tribe (Num. 36:1-13). Protect marriage as the basic building block for a stable society through laws, mentoring and economic incentives.

Ask God to accomplish the following in your life and city:
1. All believers engage in the spiritual battle
2. Follow God fully to enable your family and congregation to embrace His kingdom purpose
3. Renew your thinking in Christ so you reject worldliness and idols
4. Do God's mission and discover your unique inheritance
5. Exercise justice in the church and community to atone for polluting the land with bloodshed
6. Protect marriage as the basic building block for a stable society through laws, mentoring and economic incentives

How to Embrace Your Promised Land (Insights in Psalms)

11/5/2011

Picture
If we don't eat, we become malnourished. The same applies to spiritual food or feeding on the bread of life, God's word. From a survey of 1050 Reformed and Evangelical pastors in 2005-06, 81% said there was no regular discipleship program or effective effort of mentoring their people or teaching them to deepen their Christian formation at their church. Only 25% of their church’s membership attended a Bible Study or small group at least twice a month. 26% of pastors said they regularly had personal devotions and felt they were adequately fed spirituality. Psalm 106 explains how to have a balanced spiritual diet so you can embrace your promised land.

Seek God's Glory
Praise and and thank God for His goodness and eternal love. The proper response is to speak of His mighty deeds and show forth His value by practicing righteousness continuously (Ps. 106:1-3). Seek God's glory by speaking of His mighty deeds and practicing righteousness.

Ask God's Favor
Ask God to show favor to His people and intervene with salvation. Celebrate with His people when He prospers them with gladness (Ps. 106:4-5). Ask God to favor His people so you can celebrate with them.

Confess Your Sin
We have sinned, committed iniquity and behaved wickedly like our fathers who rebelled at the Red Sea when they forgot His miracles in Egypt. God saved and redeemed Israel from the enemy. They finally believed His words when He made His power known in drying up the sea and covering Pharaoh's army with the water (Ps. 106:6-12). Repent of sin in response to "Red Sea" or miracle experience in your life.

Listen to God
They quickly forgot His works, didn't wait for His counsel, coveted food intensely in the wilderness and tempted God. He gave them their request and sent a wasting disease among them (Ps. 106:13-15). Listen to God and don't forget His miracles in your life.

Obey God's Word
The earth swallowed Dathan and the company of Abiram when they envied Moses and Aaron. A fire consumed the wicked (Ps. 106:16-18).  Obey God's word  and don't envy or rebel against His appointed leaders.

Stand in the Gap for Your City
They worshiped a golden calf and exchanged their glory for the image of an ox. They forgot their Savior who did awesome things by the Red Sea. Because Moses stood in the breach to turn away God's wrath, He didn't destroy them. They despised the pleasant land, didn't believe His word, grumbled in their tents and didn't listen to the Lord's voice. God swore that He would scatter them among the nations (Ps. 106:19-27). Stand in the gap for your city instead of worshiping idols so they can enter into the "promised land."

Pray Against Sexual Sin and Materialism
They ate sacrifices to Baal-peor so that the plague broke out, but Phinehas interceded. He removed the plague in response to Phinehas' prayers and it was reckoned to him for righteousness (Ps. 106:28-31). Intercede against sexual sin and materialism that plagues the church and our culture.

Show Patience
When they were rebellious against His Spirit at the waters of Meribah, Moses spoke rashly (Ps. 106:32-33). Societal and church breakdown tempts God's people towards rashness and impatience.

Reject Idols of Success
Israel did not destroy the peoples as He commanded, but mingled with the nations, learned their practices and served their idols, which became a snare to them. They sacrificed their sons and daughters to the demons and shed innocent blood to the idols of Canaan. They polluted the land with their blood, became unclean and played the harlot with their deeds (Ps. 106:34-39). Reject idols by not mingling with the culture or sacrificing your children to the gods of success and upward mobility.

Do Spiritual Warfare
Therefore, God allows the nations and enemies to rule, oppress and subdue them under their power. Many times He would deliver them, but because of their rebellion, they sank down in their iniquity (Ps. 106:40-43). Disobedience to God enables the world, flesh  and devil to rule, oppress and subdue you.

Pray Fervently
When God heard their cry out of distress, He remembered His covenant and showed compassion in the presence of their captors (Ps. 106:44-46). God responds compassionately when His people cry out with heartfelt prayer.

Praise God Continually
Save, gather us from among the nations, give thanks to His name and glory in His praise. Bless the God of Israel eternally (Ps. 106:47-48). God rescues His people when they praise His name and ask for His help.

As you consider the above headings, where is God convicting you? As the Holy Spirit to build you up in that area, and begin to practice that spiritual discipline.

Benefits of Entering Into God's Presence (Insights in Psalms)

Coming into God's presence with thanksgiving empowers you to speak of God's reign so you remember His righteous judgment and experience His power to defeat spiritual enemies. Otherwise, a hardened heart prevents entering into God's rest that leads to forgetting His righteous judgment and power to overcome the world, flesh and devil.

Enter Into God's Presence with Thanksgiving for God's Rest
Let's sing, shout joyfully and come before His presence with thanksgiving.  The Lord is a great God and King who formed the earth (Ps. 95:1-5). Enter God's presence with thanksgiving because He is great.

Let's worship and bow down to God as people of His pasture. Don't harden your heart like Israel did in the wilderness when Israel tested and tried God even though they saw His work. Because they erred in their hearts and didn't know His ways, they couldn't enter His rest (Ps. 95:6-11).
Hardness of heart prevents you from entering into God's rest.

Tell of God's Reign to Remember His Righteous Judgment
Proclaim daily good tidings of God's salvation. Tell of of His glory and His wonderful deeds among everyone. The Lord is great and feared above all idols because He made the heavens. Splendor, majesty, strength and beauty are in His sanctuary (Ps. 96:1-6). Speak of God's attributes and works  because of His majesty and beauty.

Ascribe glory and strength to the Lord's name. Worship the Lord in holiness. Tell the world that He reigns and judges the peoples with equity (Ps. 96:7-10). Tell the world that God reigns and judges fairly.

Let the earth rejoice so all creation sings for joy. The Lord is coming to judge the earth in righteousness and everyone with faithfulness (Ps. 96:11-13).
Don't forget that God judges everyone righteously.

Exalt in God and Hate Evil So He Defeats Your Enemies
Let the earth rejoice since the Lord reigns with righteousness and justice. He burns up His adversaries and the mountains melted like wax. The heavens declare His righteousness and people see His glory (Ps. 97:1-6). Rejoice in the glorious reign of the Lord who defeats your enemies.

Let all those be ashamed who serve and boast in idols instead of worshiping God. His people rejoice in the Most High God who is exalted above all gods (Ps. 97:7-9). Exalt in the Most High God and not idols.

Those who love the Lord hate evil. He preserves the souls of His godly ones and delivers them from the wicked. Be glad and give thanks to His holy name (Ps. 97:10-12). Love the Lord and hate evil since God delivers godly ones from wickedness.

Come into God's presence with thanksgiving and speak of God's reign, majesty, beauty and glory to others so you remember His righteous judgment and power to overcome spiritual enemies.

How To Effectively Shepherd God's People (Insights in Psalms)

5/25/2011

People often think the greatest impact occurs in large congregations where multitudes listen to a sermon on Sunday morning. Multiplication of God's kingdom occurs in small ways. Teaching our children, discipling a few and trusting God for the increase. Certain character qualities ensure success. Ps. 78 explains how you can effectively shepherd God's people.

Listen to God's instruction told by your fathers when He revealed His praise, strength and wondrous works done to the next generation. He commanded fathers to teach God's law to their children so it can be passed on to their children. Instead of a rebellious heart and unfaithful spirit, they would put their confidence in God to keep His commandments and not forget His work (Ps. 78:1-8). Disciple your children so they can teach the next generation.

Ephraim was equipped with bows but deserted in the day of battle by not walking in God's law and forgetting His miracles like parting of the Red Sea. He led them with the cloud by day, fire by night and split rocks to provide water while in the wilderness (Ps. 78:9-16). Follow God's leading and don't desert Him in the day of battle.

They continued rebelling against the Most High by putting God to the test in their heart. They asked for food according to their desire and questioned whether God would provide food and water in the wilderness. They did not believe in His wonderful works and trust in His salvation even though He opened the doors of heaven and rained down manna to eat. Their days ended in futility and years in sudden terror (Ps. 78:17-33). Guard your heart so you trust in, and not question, God's provision.

The Israelites returned and searched diligently for God when he killed some of them. He forgave their iniquity even though they deceived Him with their mouths and lied with their tongues. They grieved God by tempting Him and forgetting His power during the day of redemption from their adversary in Egypt. He sent plagues, smote all the first-born, led His people like sheep and guided them safely in the wilderness like a flock until the sea destroyed their enemies (Ps. 78:34-53). Control your tongue so you may submit to God's leadership and not lie.

God drove out the nations before them and gave the land as an inheritance to specific tribes of Israel. The Israelites provoked God with their high places and graven images so He killed His people. Young men were destroyed by fire, virgins missed out on marriage, priests fell by the sword and widows couldn't weep (Ps. 78:54-64). Don't worship idols so you can receive an inheritance from God.

The Lord drove His adversaries backward into eternal reproach. He chose Judah and David His servant to shepherd His people and Israel His inheritance. David shepherded them according to the integrity of his heart and guided them with his skillful hands (Ps. 78:65-72). Shepherd others with insight, wisdom, skill and integrity of heart.

The following explain how to effectively shepherd and teach God's people:
1. Follow God's leading
2. Trust God's provision
3. Control your tongue

4. Don't worship idols
Ask God to equip you in each of these areas.
