Mourn Over Your City (Insights in Prophets)

What can you do when families, churches and cities are breaking apart? It begins with mourning over your situation. Mourn until you love your family, church and city like a nursing child does with his mother. Remember that God continually reveals Himself even when you are pursuing your own thing. Pursue the cultural mandate in seeking God's blessings in practical areas of life (health, housing, work, economy and family life) and the spiritual mandate to make disciples in all the nations realizing that those without Christ will go to a place where the "worm will not die, nor will their fire be quenched."

The preparation for this work is seen in Isaiah 61-64 where it instructs you to preach good news to heal captives and pray intensely day and night laying hold of God’s name in asking for His help to transform your family, church and city.

God Continually Reveals Himself
God revealed Himself to those who did not seek Him. He held out His hands to a people who pursued their own imaginations, burned incense on altars of brick, ate unclean meat and asked God to stay away. He punished them for their sin and their fathers' sin. He brought descendants from Jacob and Judah who sought Him so they could  possess and inherit His mountains. He killed those who forsook the Lord when they spread a table for Fortune and filled bowls of mixed wine for Destiny (Is. 65:1-12). God continually reveals Himself to you but judges those who forsake Him,

Seek God's Blessing (Cultural Mandate)
God said His servants ate, drank, rejoiced and sang but they went hungry with anguish of heart and broken in spirit. He gave His servants another name. They invoked a blessing in the land by the God of truth who forgot past troubles. He created a new heavens and new earth where former things were not remembered. God created Jerusalem to be a delight and its people a joy. He rejoiced over Jerusalem and delighted in His people who no longer wept. Infants did not die and the elderly lived to an old age. They built and lived in houses while planting and eating the fruit of vineyards so they enjoyed the works of their hands instead of others. They did not toil in vain or bear children doomed to misfortune but became a people blessed by God. The wolf and lamb fed together, the lion ate straw like the ox and the serpent ate dust (Is. 65:13-25). Seek God's blessing in all practical areas of life to transform the environment.

Respond to God's Word Humbly
The Lord said heaven was His throne and the earth His footstool, but asked where they would build His house and resting place since He made everything. God esteemed the humble in spirit who trembled at His word. Those who worshiped an idol chose and delighted in their own ways leading to harsh treatment and dread. When He called no one answered and when He spoke no one listened (Is. 66:1-4). Respond to God's word with a humble heart.

Mourn Over Your City
Those who trembled at His word were hated and excluded by their brothers because of His name. They were put to shame when God repaid His enemies. While Zion was in labor, she gave birth to her children like a country born in a day. Those who mourned over Jerusalem should rejoice and love her. They nursed and were satisfied at her comforting breasts while delighting in her overflowing abundance (Is. 66:5-11). Mourn over your city until you love her like a nursing child.

Receive Peace, Wealth and Comfort
God extended peace to Jerusalem like a river and the wealth of nations like a flooding stream. He comforted them over Jerusalem like a mother with her child. God revealed Himself to His servants and judged His enemies with flames of fire (Is. 66:12-16). Receive peace, wealth and comfort when God reveals Himself and judges your enemies.

Make Disciples in All Nations (Spiritual Mandate)

All nations and tongues saw His glory. God sent some to the nations of Tarshish, Libya, Lydia, Tubal, Greece and distant islands who had not heard of His fame or seen His glory. They proclaimed His glory among the nations. They brought all their brothers from all nations to His holy mountain in Jerusalem as an offering to Him like grain offerings. God selected some as priests and Levites (Is. 66:12-21). Make disciples in all nations by proclaiming His glory and equipping disciplemakers.

Consider Eternal Outcome
Their name endured like the new heavens and new earth. All mankind bowed down to God in every season. They looked upon the dead bodies of those who rebelled against Him. Their worm did not die and their fire was not quenched so all mankind would be disgusted (Is. 66:22-24). Consider the eternal outcome of those who rebel against God.

Do you believe that people are eternally separated from God if they don't have Jesus Christ? Are you grieving over the devastation you see in families, churches and cities? Then mourn until it motivates you to pray. Gather others to pray with you. Then watch what God will do in raising up disciples among various niches and cultural spheres!

Transformation Through Preaching and Prayer (Insights in Prophets)

"If the church would only awaken to her responsibility of intercession, we could well evangelize the world in a short time. It is not God's plan that the world be merely evangelized ultimately. It should be evangelized in every generation. There should be a constant gospel witness in every corner of the world so that no sinner need close his eyes in death without hearing the gospel, the good news of salvation through Christ" (T. S. Hegre).

Preaching to the poor and intense prayer transform lives and cities.

Preach Good News
The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord anointed Isaiah to preach good news to the poor, sent him to bind up the brokenhearted, proclaim freedom for the captives and release for the prisoners. He proclaimed the Lord's favor and vengeance to comfort and provide for those who mourned and grieved in order to bestow a crown of beauty, oil of gladness and garment of praise instead of ashes, mourning and despair. They were called oaks of righteousness to display His splendor. They rebuild the ancient ruins and restored devastated places to renew ruined cities devastated for generations. They called them priests of the Lord and ministers of God to feed on the wealth of nations. God rewarded His people with a double portion. They rejoiced eternally in their land without shame and disgrace (Is. 61:1-7). Preach good news to heal the  captives and restore ruined cities.

Delight in God
God loved justice, hated robbery, rewarded them and made an eternal covenant. Their descendants were known among the nations as a people blessed by the Lord. Isaiah delighted greatly in the Lord because he was clothed with garments of salvation and arrayed in a robe of righteousness like a bride adorning herself with jewels. God made righteousness and praise spring up before all nations (Is. 61:8-11). Delight in God because He plants righteousness in His people everywhere.

Pray Intensely
Isaiah would not remain quiet until righteousness, salvation and glory became like a blazing torch in Jerusalem seen by nations and kings. They were a crown of splendor and royal diadem in God's hand. No longer would they be called Deserted and Desolate, but the Lord delighted in them with the  land married. Watchmen called upon God without rest day or night until He made her the praise of the earth (Is. 62:1-7). Pray intensely day and night until your city displays salvation and glory.

Praise God's Name
God's people ate the fruit of their labor and praised Him. They build up the highway, removed the stones and raised a banner for the nations to prepare for the Savior's arrival and reward. They were called The Holy People, Redeemed of the Lord, Sought After and City No Longer Deserted (Is. 62:8-12). Praise God's name so the Savior redeems His holy people.

Ask God's Help
God saved them with splendor, strength and righteousness. He trampled the nations with wrath. Vengeance was in God's heart, but redemption came instead. Because He found no one to help or give support, His own arm worked salvation. Isaiah spoke of the Lord's kindnesses and good things He did for Israel by saving them in their distress. After rebelling and grieving the Holy Spirit, His people remembered when Moses led them through the sea and God divided the waters. Why did their Father and Redeemer make them wander from His ways and harden their hearts so they did not revere Him? For a little while His people possessed His holy place but now their enemies trampled His sanctuary (Is. 63:1-19). Ask God's help and support during distress remembering His power in former days.

Lay Hold of God
They asked God to make His name known to His enemies and caused nations to tremble. No one heard or saw any God except Him who acted on behalf of those who waited for Him. He helped those who did right and remembered His ways. Everyone became unclean and their righteous acts were like filthy rags. No one called on His name or strived to lay hold of Him. He hid His face and their sins made them waste away. They were the clay as the work of their Father the potter. His sacred cities including Zion became a desert and Jerusalem a desolation. Their holy and glorious temple was burned with fire and all their treasure lied in ruins. Would God remain silent and punish them beyond measure? (Is. 64:1-12). Lay hold of God in prayer so He transforms your life and city.

Ask God to put intensity and heart into your prayers so He can heal your life and transform you city. Find others to pray with.

How to Experience Blessings in Your City (Insights in Prophets)

To experience blessings in your city, first seek God's thoughts and ways, pray for all nations with other believers, be humble to experience His promises, meet needs of the poor, practice biblical truth through Spirit-led intercession and confession of sin, receive back children, material riches and favor to possess the land forever.

Seek God’s Thoughts and Ways to Bear Spiritual Fruit
Isaiah asked the thirsty with no money  to come to the waters so they could buy  wine and milk without cost. Why spend money on what was not bread and labor on what did not satisfy? If they ate what was good, their soul would live by delighting in the richest of fare through God's loving covenant promised to David. They attracted nations as a witness and leader because of His splendor. They turned to the Lord for pardon while the evil forsook his way and thoughts. Like the heavens above the earth, God's thoughts and ways were higher than theirs. His word yielded seed for the sower and bread for the eater to accomplish God's will and purpose. They went out in joy and peace bearing fruit for His renown (Is. 55:1-13). Seek God's thoughts and ways to bear spiritual fruit.

Pray for All Nations with Other Believers
God's salvation and righteousness was revealed to anyone, including the foreigner, if they kept the Sabbath and His covenant by serving, loving and worshiping Him. They received a memorial and an eternal name better than sons and daughters. God brought them to His holy mountain and gave them joy in His house of prayer. He accepted their burnt offerings and sacrifices on His altars since it was called a house of prayer for all nations. Israel's watchmen were blind, lacked knowledge and loved to sleep with unsatisfied appetites. Shepherds lacked understanding,  turned to their own way and sought their own gain (Is. 56:1-12). Pray for all nations with other believers.

Be Humble to Experience His Promises, Revival and Peace
The righteous died to be spared from evil and enter into peace. God's people as offspring of adulterers and liars  burned with lust and sacrificed their children to idolatry. Their strength was renewed even as they forgot God because of His silence. Their idols could not benefit or save them. But a man who made God His refuge inherited the land and possessed His holy mountain. Even though God lived in a high and holy place, He identified with the humble and lowly in spirit to revive their heart and remove obstacles. God would heal and comfort those with sinful greed and willful ways so they could experience peace. It was impossible for the wicked to have peace (Is. 57:1-21). Be humble to experience His promises, revival and peace.

Meet Need of Poor by Raising Up Foundations, Repairing Broken Walls and Restoring Dwellings
Tell Israel about their sins even though it appeared they did what was right. God did not see their humility and fasting because they exploited their workers and quarreled with one another. God heard their prayers when they loosed the chains of injustice, untied the cords of the yoke, set the oppressed free and broke every yoke. If they shared food with the hungry, provided shelter to the poor wanderer, clothed the naked and supported others, their light broke forth like the dawn, healing quickly appeared, righteousness went before them and God's glory was their rear guard. The Lord answered prayer immediately. By putting away the yoke of oppression, malicious talk, spending themselves on behalf of the hungry and satisfying the needs of the oppressed, their light rose in the darkness and their night became like noonday. The Lord guided them always, satisfied their needs and strengthened their frame to be a well-watered garden and spring whose waters never failed. They were called the Repairer of Broken Walls and Restorer of Streets with Dwellings when they rebuild the ancient ruins and raised up the age-old foundations (Is. 58:1-14).Meet needs of the poor by raising up foundations, repairing broken walls and restoring dwellings.

Practice Biblical Truth Through Spirit-Led Intercession and Confession of Sin
Sin separated and hid Israel from God so He would not hear. Blood stained their hands, lips spoke lies and their tongue muttered wickedness. Instead of calling for justice or pleading their case with integrity, they relied on empty arguments and spoke lies that birthed ruin and destruction without peace. Justice, righteousness, light and deliverance were far away because truth was nowhere to be found. It displeased the Lord there was no justice. He was appalled there was no one to intercede. God put on righteousness as His breastplate, the helmet of salvation on His head and the garments of vengeance to repay wrath to His enemies so men everywhere would fear His name and revere His glory. When the enemy came in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord put him to flight. The Redeemer came to Zion when Jacob repented of their sins. God's Spirit put His words in their mouths, their children and descendants from this time on and forever (Is. 59:1-21). Practice biblical truth through Spirit-led intercession and confession of sin.

Receive Back Children, Riches and Favor from Former Enemies
God's glory rose upon them so nations came to their light and kings to the brightness of their dawn. When their sons and daughters came from afar, their heart swelled with joy. Gold and incense came from Sheba proclaiming God's praise. Islands looked to Him as they brought Israel's sons from afar with silver and gold for the honor of God. Foreigners rebuild their walls and kings served them. Their gates always stood open so men could bring the wealth of the nations. Former despisers bowed down and called them The City of the Lord, Zion of the Holy One of Israel (Is. 60:1-14). Receive back children, material riches and favor from former enemies.

Experience Joy and Prosperity from the Lord to Possess the Land Forever In His Time
From forsaken and hated to eternal pride and joy among all generations so they would know that the Lord was their Savior, Redeemer and Mighty One of Jacob. Instead of bronze, He brought gold, silver in place of iron, bronze instead of wood and iron instead of stones. He made peace their governor and righteousness their ruler. Instead of violence, ruin or destruction, they called their walls Salvation and gates Praise. The Lord was their eternal light and God their glory that ended their sorrow. All their people would be righteous to possess the land forever. The least would become a thousand and the smallest a mighty nation. In its time the Lord would do this swiftly (Is. 60:15-22). Experience pride, joy, prosperity, salvation and praise from the Lord to possess the land forever in His time.

Humble yourself to pray for all nations and confess sin with other believers while meeting needs of the poor so you can experience pride, joy, prosperity, salvation and praise from the Lord in His time to possess the land.

How God Transforms and Multiplies Disciples (Insights in Prophets)

11/11/2012

"All of us have wondered at times why God doesn't do more to fix our problems. But our human eyes often fail to see that God isn't rushing to change our circumstances because he is concerned with a much more serious problem - our character. While you struggle with the woes of this world, God's main occupation is preparing you for the world to come. The focus of what God is doing in your life takes place in you, not around you" (Andy Stanley).

God transforms and multiplies disciples by removing obstacles, bringing righteousness and strength, setting captives free, destroying wrong thinking, refining His people and leading people in the right way. Through this process, people experience peace leading to multiplied disciples.

God Transforms People

God told His servant Jacob whom He chose and helped to not fear since He poured water on thirsty land and streams on dry ground. He poured out His Spirit and blessing so His descendants understood they belonged  to Him. Israel was His witness to proclaim that there was no other God or Rock than Him.  Those who made idols were blind, ignorant and shameful. The idols they treasured were worthless. Craftsmen, blacksmiths and carpenters shaped idols in the form of man in all his glory to worship them as their god. They misunderstood that a block of wood could not save them. Their heart lied to them since they could not save themselves. Israel must return to God since He redeemed and swept away their sins like a morning mist. He displayed His glory through creation. God overthrew false prophets and the learning of the wise. He fulfilled His servants' predictions. God restored the ruins in Jerusalem and Judah. He directed Cyrus as His shepherd to rebuild Jerusalem and lay the foundations of the temple (Is. 44:1-28). God displays His glory in transforming people by revealing the worthlessness of idols.

God Removes Obstacles
God used Cyrus to subdue nations and open doors. God went before Israel to level mountains, break down gates of bronze and cut through bars of iron. He gave them riches stored in secret places so they would know the true Lord. He called them by name, bestowed a title of honor and strengthened them even though they did not acknowledge God. He showed the whole earth that there was no other god except the Lord who formed light, created darkness, brought prosperity and created disaster. God rained down righteousness so salvation would spring up. The clay cannot say to the potter, "What are you making?" or to his parents, "What have you brought to birth?" God made the earth and created mankind upon it. He raised up Cyrus to rebuild Jerusalem and set His exiles free. The products of Egypt and merchandise of Cush would be theirs when people saw God was with them. The makers of idols were shamed and disgraced, but Israel would have eternal salvation without shame or disgrace (Is. 45:1-17). God removes obstacles and opens doors in providing financial resources so the world can be saved.

God Brings Righteousness and Strength
God created the heavens and earth to be inhabited. He did not want Jacob's descendants to seek Him in vain. The righteous God and Savior called the earth to turn to Him and be saved. Every knee and tongue would bow saying that in the Lord alone was righteousness and strength. Everyone who raged against Him would be shamed, but in the Lord all Israel's descendants were found righteous and exulted (Is. 45:18-25). God enables His disciples to seek Him for  righteousness and strength.

God Sets Captives Free
The idols of Babylon, Bel and Nebo, were unable to rescue them from the weary burden and captivity to sin. God carried, sustained and rescued Israel from birth through old age. Comparing God to riches was futile since it could not save them from their troubles. He used men to fulfill His purpose planned from the beginning of time. His righteousness was near and would not be delayed as He granted salvation and splendor to Israel (Is. 46:1-13). God works through His people to set captives free from sin.

God Destroys Wrong Thinking
Babylon would no longer be called tender, delicate or the queen of kingdoms.  God took vengeance, exposed her nakedness and uncovered her shame. He was angry with His people and gave them into Babylon's hand. They showed no mercy with Israel and even laid a heavy yoke on the aged. Babylon lounged in security not knowing that widowhood and loss of children would occur on a single day. They trusted in wickedness and were misled in their wisdom, knowledge, self-sufficiency, magic spells and sorceries. Wrong counsel wore them out. They could not, along with anyone else, save themselves from the power of the flame (Is. 47:1-15). God exposes and destroys wrong thinking and self-sufficiency.

God Refines His People
Israel invoked God's name without truth and righteousness.
They called themselves citizens of the holy city but were stubborn like a bronze forehead. God announced new things before they happened so they could not say their idols ordained them. He tested and refined them in the furnace of affliction for His own name's sake. The Lord's chosen ally carried out His purpose against Babylon that God made successful (Is. 48:1-15). God tests and refines His people in the furnace of affliction for His name's sake.

God Leads People In Right Way
God taught Israel what was best and directed them in the way they should go. Their peace would be like a river and righteousness like the waves of the sea if they listened to His commands. Their descendants would be like sand and their name maintained before God. Announce their flight from Babylon with shouts of joy saying the Lord redeemed His servant Jacob. God led Israel and made water flow from the rock in the deserts. There was no peace for the wicked (Is. 48:16-22). God leads His people in the right way to experience peace and multiply disciples.

Ask God to transform and multiply disciples among yourself, family members and friends through the following process:
1. God reveals His glory by revealing the worthlessness of idols
2. God removes obstacles and opens doors in providing financial resources so the world can be saved
3.  God enables His disciples to seek Him for  righteousness and strength
4. God works through His people to set captives free from sin
5. God exposes and destroys wrong thinking and self-sufficiency
6. God tests and refines His people in the furnace of affliction for His name's sake
7. God leads His people in the right way to experience peace and multiply disciples

Preparation for Intercessory Prayer (Insights in Prophets)

11/4/2012

Picture
"Listen, my friend! Your helplessness is your best prayer. It calls from your heart to the heart of God with greater effect than all your uttered pleas. He hears it from the very moment that you are seized with helplessness, and He becomes actively engaged at once in hearing and answering the prayer of your helplessness" (Ole Kristian O. Hallesby).

Helplessness causes you to wait on God without fear. Waiting on God prepares you to receive the counsel of godly people so your works become fruitful  as you trust the Holy Spirit to open blind eyes, free captives and release those in darkness. Proclaim God's praise and follow His leadership along unfamiliar paths to turn the darkness of blindness and deafness into light. Become God's witness so the world understands that He is Lord and Savior as you follow His pathway through mighty waters and in the desert since He provides all your needs. Now you are prepared to call upon God passionately and purposefully in intercessory prayer because He blots and remembers your sin no more.

Wait On God
In silence, nations renewed their strength as God called them to service in righteousness. God turned kings into dust as craftsmen continued making idols. He chose His friend, Israel, descendant of Abraham, to be His servant from the ends of the earth. God strengthened and upheld His people so they would not fear or be dismayed. Those who opposed them became  ashamed, disgraced and died. The Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel, helped them become a new and sharp threshing sledge with many teeth to crush the mountains into chaff. They rejoiced and gloried in God (Is. 41:1-16). Wait on God without fear as His tool to defeat spiritual forces of wickedness.

Listen to Godly People
The poor and needy searched for water, but their tongues were parched with thirst. God did not forsake them. He brought rivers within valleys, turned parched ground into springs and put cedar, acacia, myrtle, olive and pines in the wasteland so people understood that God did it. He asked those who trusted in idols to predict the future. In reality, their works were utterly worthless and detestable. God called someone who treaded on rulers and gave a messenger of good news to Jerusalem. Instead, they trusted in false counsel and their deeds amounted to confusion and nothingness (Is. 41:17-29). Listen to godly people so your works become fruitful.

Trust the Holy Spirit
God chose, delighted and put His Spirit in His servant so justice came to the nations. He did not cry out in the streets. A bruised reed He would not break and smoldering wick He would not snuff out. He established justice on earth so that people put their hope in His law. The Creator God who gave life to everyone called His people in righteousness to be a covenant and light for the Gentiles. They opened blind eyes, freed captives from prison and released those sitting in darkness (Is. 42:1-7). Trust the Holy Spirit to open blind eyes, free captives and release those in darkness.

Proclaim God's Praise
God did not give His glory to idols. He predicted new things before they came into being. Sing to the Lord a new song and proclaim His praise everywhere since He marched like a warrior in triumph over His enemies. His servant, Jesus, cried out and turned rivers into islands, dried up pools, led the blind by unknown ways, guided them along unfamiliar paths, turned darkness into light and made the rough places smooth. He did these things without forsaking them. Those who trusted in idols turned into utter shame (Is. 42:8-17).  Proclaim God's praise everywhere and follow His leadership along unfamiliar paths to turn darkness into light.

Obey God's Law
God's servants and messengers were blind and deaf even though He made his law great and glorious. His people were plundered, trapped in pits and hidden in prisons with no rescuer. Because of sin and not following His ways or obeying His law, God poured out His burning anger through the violence of war (Is. 42:18-25). Obey God's law to remove blindness and deafness.

Become God's Witness
Do not fear because God created, redeemed and called Israel by name.  The Savior protected them from floods and fire so they would not drown or be burned. He gave Egypt, Cush and Seba as their ransom since they were precious, honored and loved in God's sight. He gave people in exchange for their lives. God gathered His sons and daughters from the ends of the earth. He led those with blind eyes and deaf ears to be His true witnesses and chosen servants before the nations so they would understand that God was Lord and Savior. No one reversed His works (Is. 43:1-13). Become God's witness so the world understands that He is Lord and Savior.

Follow God's Pathway
The Redeemer, Holy One, Israel's Creator and King brought all the Babylonians in ships as fugitives for the sake of God's people. He made a path through mighty waters and snuffed out chariots, horses, army and reinforcements like a wick. Forget former things from the past because God did a new thing. He made a way in the desert and provided water there so that wild animals honored Him and His chosen people could drink. God desired that people He formed for Himself would proclaim His praise (Is. 43:14-21). Follow God's pathway through mighty waters and in the desert since He provides all your needs.

Call Upon God Passionately
Instead of calling upon God, His people became weary of Him. Instead of bringing sheep for burnt offerings and seeking God with a whole heart, they burdened Him with their sins and wearied Him with their offenses. He blotted out their transgressions for His sake and remembered their sins no more. Their first father, Adam, sinned and their spokesmen rebelled against God. He disgraced the temple dignitaries, destroyed Jacob and scorned Israel (Is. 43:22-28). Call upon God passionately and purposefully because He blots and remembers your sin no more.

How does the preparation for intercessory prayer in Is. 41-43 help you call upon God passionately and purposefully?

How to Wait Upon God for Eternal Reward (Insights in Prophets)

10/29/2012

Picture
"Waiting for God means power to do nothing save under command. This is not lack of power to do anything. Waiting for God needs strength rather than weakness. It is power to do nothing. It is the strength that holds strength in check. It is the strength that prevents the blundering activity which is entirely false and will make true activity impossible when the definite command comes"  (G. Campbell Morgan).

It is much easier to act than wait on God. Isaiah 37-40 explains how to wait upon God for strength and eternal reward to accomplish His purpose.

Ask for Counsel
King Hezekiah put on sackcloth and his aides told Isaiah that this day of distress and disgrace was like children coming to the point of birth with no strength to deliver them. They asked Isaiah to pray for the surviving remnant with the Lord possibly rebuking Assyria's ridicule of the living God. Isaiah told Hezekiah's aides not to fear their blasphemies since the Lord would put a spirit in Sennacherib, the king of Assyria, causing him to return and die by the sword in his own country. Sennacherib said that Hezekiah's god deceived him about Jerusalem not being handed over to Assyria since they destroyed many countries without their gods delivering them (Is. 37:1-13). Ask godly people for counsel and prayer when the world, flesh and devil oppose God's will.

Pray Fervently
Hezekiah took the letter from the messengers and begged the Almighty and Creator Lord to hear, open His eyes and listen to Sennacherib's insults of the living God. Hezekiah reminded Him that the Assyrian kings destroyed many nations whose gods were fashioned by humans hands. He asked for deliverance so everyone would know that God alone was Lord. Isaiah said that because Hezekiah prayed, God spoke against Sennacherib's insults and his pride over many chariots and drying up all of Egypt's streams. God planned for him to turn fortified cities into piles of stone, shame His people and rage against Him. Hezekiah received the sign of fruit from vineyards in the third year to represent the remnant of the house of Judah, which took root below and bore fruit above because of God's power. The Lord said Sennacherib would not enter Jerusalem because God defended and saved it for His sake. When the angel of the Lord killed 185,000 men in the Assyrian camp, Sennacherib returned to Nineveh. While worshiping in the temple of his god Nisroch, his sons killed him (Is. 37:14-38). Pray fervently for deliverance from evil forces that bears abundant fruit so everyone knows that God is Lord.

Journal Answered Prayer
After God listened to Hezekiah's prayer derived from his wholehearted devotion to Him, He added 15 years to his life, delivered him and defended Jerusalem from the king of Assyria. As a sign of God's promise to Hezekiah, God made the shadow go back ten steps on the stairway of Ahaz. After his illness and recovery, he asked if he must go through the gates of death and not see the Lord  in the land of the living. Hezekiah waited patiently till dawn as God broke all his bones. In anguish of soul, he asked God to come to his aid as He restored him to health. His love kept Hezekiah from the pit of destruction and put his sins behind God's back. He praised Him and told his children about God's faithfulness. Isaiah said to prepare a poultice of figs and apply it to the boil so Hezekiah would recover (Is. 38:1-22). Journal when God answers prayer in unmistakable ways to remind your children and others about God's love, power and faithfulness.

Do Not Store Earthly Treasures
Envoys from Babylon visited Hezekiah when they heard about his illness and recovery. He showed them silver, gold, spices, fine oil and everything among his treasures. Isaiah told Hezekiah that everything would be carried off to Babylon. Some of his descendants would be taken away as eunuchs in the palace of the Babylon king. Hezekiah said God's word was good since he would have peace and security during his lifetime (Is. 39:1-8). Do not store up treasures on earth where moth and rust destroy and thieves break in and steal.

Store Heavenly Treasures
Comfort and speak tenderly to God's people about the completion of her hard service with her sin paid for. Prepare the way as a highway for God in the wilderness so the rugged places became a plain and His glory revealed to all mankind. A voiced said all men were like grass and their glory like the flowers of the field. Only the word of God stands forever (Is. 40:1-8). Store up treasures in heaven like people and the word of God.

Glorify God's Power and Greatness
Isaiah told Judah that the Sovereign Lord came with power, His arm ruled and His reward was with Him. He tended His flock like a shepherd, carried them close to His heart and gently led those with young. God measured the waters and marked off the heavens in the hollow of His hand. He held the earth's dust in a basket and weighed the mountains on a scale. No one understood the Spirit of the Lord or instructed Him as His counselor. No one taught God knowledge, understanding or the right way. Nations were like a drop in a bucket and regarded as dust on the scales, worthless and nothing. One cannot compare God to a hand-made idol since He sat enthroned above people who were like grasshoppers. He stretched out the heavens like a canopy, reduced rulers to nothing and made judges meaningless so they withered away like chaff. God created the heavens and called each star by name because of His great power so none was missing (Is. 40:9-26). Glorify God's power, greatness and ability to shepherd so you don't trust in people.

Wait on God
An eternal and Creator God would not grow tired. No one could understand Him. He gave strength to the weary and increased the power of the weak. Even as youths grew tired and young men stumbled badly, those who hoped in God renewed their strength as they soared like eagles. They ran and walked without becoming weary and faint  (Is. 40:27-31). Wait on God for renewed strength to accomplish His purpose.

How to wait upon God for strength and eternal reward to accomplish His purpose:
1. Ask godly people for counsel and prayer when the world, flesh and devil oppose God's will
2. Pray fervently for deliverance from evil forces that bears abundant fruit so everyone knows that God is Lord
3. Journal when God answers prayer in unmistakable ways to remind your children and others about God's love, power and faithfulness
4. Do not store up treasures on earth where moth and rust destroy and thieves break in and steal
5. Store up treasures in heaven like people and the word of God
6. Glorify God's power, greatness and ability to shepherd so you don't trust in people

Moving Away from "Politically Correctness" About Jesus (Insights in Prophets)

10/21/2012

Picture
"Who decides what is right and wrong In the world? Who has the authority to define morality for all of creation? It is not the courts, congress, the media, public opinion, the "politically correct" police, the "tolerance" brigade or even the church. The only answer has been, is and always will be Jesus Christ. You can find His opinion on a great variety of subjects in His best seller... The Bible" (Jeffrey E. Ramey).

The king of Assyria embraced a "politically correct" philosophy about Jesus. How do you move way from tolerance or a philosophy about Jesus so He impacts every part of your life?

God Desires Foundation
Woe to the destroyer and traitor who would eventually be destroyed and betrayed. Ask God to be gracious as they longed for Him. He was their strength and and salvation in time of distress. Nations scattered when God rose up. He was exalted, dwelt on high and filled Zion with justice and righteousness. God was a sure foundation for their times and rich store of salvation, wisdom and knowledge. The fear of the Lord was the key to treasure. The land mourned and wasted away. The Lord was exalted and burned the people who conceived chaff and birthed straw (Is. 33:1-12). God desires to be your foundation for strength, salvation, wisdom and knowledge during times of distress.

God Reveals Beauty
Trembling gripped the godless. Only those who walked righteously, spoke rightly, rejected gain from extortion and refused bribes and murder plots could dwell with the consuming fire. They made the mountain fortress their refuge and God supplied bread and water. Their eyes saw the king in His beauty. They would not see arrogant officers anymore with their strange tongues who took advantage of them. Their eyes saw Jerusalem, a peaceful abode and unmovable tent along with the Mighty One who used a judge, lawgiver and king to save them. The spoil would be divided with the lame carrying plunder. No one in Zion would be sick and everyone's sins were forgiven (Is. 33:13-24). God reveals His beauty as the Mighty One who provides bread and forgives sin.

God Judges Sin
Let the earth hear about the Lord's anger with all nations. He destroyed all their armies, soaked their blood on the mountains, dissolved stars and rolled up the sky like a scroll. God judged and destroyed Edom to uphold Zion's cause. God stretched over Edom the measuring line of chaos so that princes vanished away and thorns overrun her strongholds, which became a home for owls. The Lord's scroll read that no mates would be missing because His Spirit gathered and distributed them together to live there forever (Is. 34:1-17). God judges sin, breaks strongholds and upholds His cause.

God Opens Eyes
The wilderness rejoiced and blossomed. Lebanon, Carmel and Sharon saw the glory and splendor of God. Encourage the exhausted, strengthen the feeble and tell the fearful to be strong. God came with vengeance to save them. He opened blind eyes and unstopped deaf ears with the lame leaping like a deer and the tongue of the dumb shouting for joy. Water gushed forth in the wilderness with streams in the desert. The burning sand became a pool and thirsty ground bubbling brooks. The highway was called the Way of Holiness for the redeemed who walked in that Way. The ransomed of the Lord returned and entered Zion with singing. He crowned their heads with eternal joy and sorrow left (Is. 35:1-10). God opens blind eyes and unstops deaf ears so they can drink from streams in the desert and walk in the Way of Holiness with eternal joy.

God Offers Choice
Sennacherib king of Assyria attacked and  captured the fortified city of Judah. He asked Hezekiah on whom he was depending that caused him to rebel against Sennacherib. Did he say Egypt, splintered reed of a staff, or God, the one whose high places and altars Hezekiah removed? He would get 2,000 horses if he made a bargain with Assyria. Sennacherib said the Lord told him to destroy Judah (Is. 36:1-10). God offers a choice to depend on Him causing people to make fun of you or accept immediate benefits for personal gain.

God Delivers From Evil
The commander called out in Hebrew urging them to not let Hezekiah deceive them if they trusted in God for deliverance from Assyria. Making peace with Assyria would enable everyone to eat from their own vine and drink water from their own cistern in a land like their own with grain, new wine, bread and vineyards. No god had ever delivered any nation from the king of Assyria. The people remained silent because the king said to not answer him. The palace administrator, secretary and recorder went to Hezekiah and told him what Assyria's field commander said (Is. 36:11-22). God delivers you from evil forces if you refuse making peace with them.

Steps in moving away from political correctness about Jesus to fully embracing Him in your life:
1. Allow Christ be your foundation for strength, salvation, wisdom and knowledge during times of distress
2. Glory in the beauty and mighty power of Christ who provides bread and forgives sin
3. Accept God's judgment of sin to break strongholds and uphold His cause
4. Rejoice in Christ opening blind eyes and unstopping deaf ears so you can drink from streams in the desert and walk in the Way of Holiness with eternal joy
5. Choose to depend on Christ causing people to make fun of you instead of accepting immediate benefits for personal gain
6. Receive God's deliverance from evil forces instead of making peace with them

Impact and Lifestyle of True Worship (Insights in Prophets)

10/15/2012

Picture
True worship can be summarized as acknowledging God's holiness and greatness to gain understanding and learn instruction. It begins with repentance of sin and trusts in the Holy Spirit for strength. Personal impact: Waits on Him in prayer and meditates on God's word to heal wounds. Corporate impact: Praises God to defeat evil in the world. Internal impact: relies on the truth of God's word to deliver you from strongholds. External impact: explains God's truth fluently and clearly to satisfy spiritual hunger and thirst. True worship lifestyle: Seeks God desperately until the Holy Spirit works peace, confidence and freedom.

False Worship Summarized
God set up siege works against Ariel where David settled causing them to mourn. Their enemies became like fine dust. The Lord Almighty came with thunder, earthquake and devouring fire so those nations waging war against Mt. Zion became faint with unquenched thirst. The Lord brought deep sleep to the prophets' eyes and His vision was sealed in a scroll so no one could read it. The Lord said His people came near and honored Him with their lips but their hearts were far away. Their worship consisted of rules taught by men. The wisdom of the wise would perish and intelligence of the intelligent vanish (Is. 29:1-14).  False worship consists of following man's rules without heart behind them.

True Worship Summarized
Woe to those who hid their plans from God and worked in darkness thinking no one saw them. Should what is formed say to his creator that he did not make him or the pot to the potter, "He knows nothing?" The deaf heard the words of the scroll and eyes of the blind saw. The humble and needy rejoiced in the Lord. The ruthless vanished and mockers disappeared. God cut down those with an eye for evil whose false testimony deprived the innocent of justice. The Lord said Jacob would no longer be ashamed, but acknowledged His holiness  and stood in awe of the God of Israel. Those with wayward spirit gained understanding and complainers learned instruction (Is. 29:15-24).  True worship acknowledges God's holiness and greatness to gain understanding and learn instruction.

True Worship Initiation

Woe to those who carried out plans and formed alliances without His Spirit. They went to Egypt without consulting God. Looking to Pharaoh for protection brought shame and disgrace instead of help and advantage. Write on a tablet about these rebellious and deceitful children unwilling to listen to the Lord's instruction. They said to the seers and prophets that they wanted no more righteous visions where they were confronted with the Holy One, but pleasant words and illusions. The sin of relying on oppression and depending on deceit became like a high wall that collapsed  instantly. In repentance and rest was salvation, in quietness and trust was strength, but instead of being willing, they left on horses with little threat to them (Is. 30:1-17).  True worship repents of sin for salvation and trusts in the Holy Spirit for strength.

True Worship Personal Impact
The Lord longed to be gracious and compassionate. Blessed were those who wait for Him. God showed grace and answered when they cried for help. He revealed the way to walk during adversity and affliction so they did not trust in the idols of materialism. He sent rain to sow the seed in the ground that yielded plentiful food. The Lord bound up their bruises and healed their wounds (Is. 30:18-26). True worship  waits on Him in prayer and meditates on God's word for the healing of wounds.

True Worship Corporate Impact
His wrath shook the nations and placed a bit to lead them astray. Their hearts sang and rejoiced on the mountain of the Lord. Men heard God's majestic voice to the music of tambourines and harps that shattered Assyria with His scepter and punishing rod (Is. 30:27--33). True worship praises God as the chief weapon of spiritual warfare to defeat evil.

True Worship Internal Impact
Woe to those who went to Egypt for help, relied on horses and trusted in many chariots instead of seeking help from God. The Lord Almighty shielded, delivered and rescued Jerusalem while defeating evildoers. God called Israel to return to Him and reject idols their hands made. The sword of God's word devoured Assyria, placed young men in forced labor, broke their stronghold and caused commanders to panic (Is. 31:1-9). True worship relies on the truth of God's word for deliverance from evil strongholds and slavery to sin.

True Worship External Impact
A king reigned in righteousness and rulers ruled with justice like a shelter from the wind, refuge from the storm and streams of water in the desert. The blind saw, the deaf heard, the rash discerned the truth and the stammering tongue was fluent and clear. The fool was not called noble nor the scoundrel highly respected since the fool spoke nonsense, practiced ungodliness and spread error concerning the Lord so the hungry left unsatisfied and withheld water from the thirsty. The scoundrel made evil schemes and destroyed the poor with lies even when the needy spoke truth. The noble man made noble plans and stood by them (Is. 32:1-8). True worship explains God's truth fluently and clearly to satisfy spiritual hunger and thirst.

True Worship Lifestyle
Complacent women trembled in a little more than one year when the fruit harvest failed. They mourned for the fruitful until the Holy Spirit was poured out upon the land of God's people overgrown with thorns and the city of revelry with the abandoned fortress and deserted city became fertile. The fruit and effect of righteousness would be peace, quietness and confidence forever so His people could live securely in places of rest. Even as the city was leveled completely, how blessed to sow seed by every stream letting animals range freely (Is. 32:9-20). True worship seeks God desperately until the Holy Spirit works peace, confidence and freedom.

Begin to seek God desperately until the Holy Spirit works peace, confidence and freedom in your life.

How to Live Life Rightly (Insights in Prophets)

10/8/2012

Picture
"When I find myself racing around, trying to fill a day with mindless tasks or petty entertainment, this is usually the time that God whispers to my heart to draw away with Him and to silence my heart as He wishes to speak" (Katherine Walden).

Slow down your life as you trust, long, pray, feed, return and listen to God so you can live life rightly.

Trust God for Perfect Peace and Salvation
In the strong city, God set up walls for salvation. Open the gates that the righteous nation and faithful may enter. He keeps the steadfast mind in perfect peace who trust in God. Trust Him forever, an eternal rock, who humbles those who dwell on high with the feet of the oppressed and the poor (Is. 26:1-6). Trust in God as your anchor for perfect peace and salvation.

Long for God’s Name and Obey Heartily His Laws
God makes the path of the righteous is smooth. We wait for Him while walking in the way of His laws. God's name and renown are the desire of our hearts. Our soul longs for You in the morning and night. People of the world learn righteousness when His judgments come upon the earth. The wicked do not learn righteousness or regard God's majesty when grace is shown to them (Is. 26:7-10). Long for God's majestic name and obey heartily His laws.

Allow God to Do His Works for Extension of His Glory
The wicked were shamed when they saw God's zeal for His people. God established peace and accomplished all our works. We honor His name above any human that He brought to ruin. God increased and gained glory for Himself by extending the borders of the land. They could barely pray during His discipline as they sought Him in distress. They gave birth to wind and did not bring salvation to the earth. The dead will live and their bodies will rise to shout for joy. God will punish people for their sins (Is. 26:11-21). Allow God to do His works for the extension of His glory.

Pray and Feed on God’s Word for Protection from Spiritual Enemies
God punished with His sword and killed Leviathan, the serpent who lives in the sea. Sing about a fruitful vineyard that the Lord watered and guarded continually so no one could harm it. They relied on God's protection and made peace with Him. Jacob took root and Israel blossomed to fill the whole world with fruit (Is. 27:1-6). Pray and feed on God's word for protection from spiritual enemies.

Pray Against Idolatry and False Gods to Prepare for Corporate Worship of God
Prayer and spiritual warfare demolishes idolatry and false gods. Because cities were desolate and its people had no understanding, their Creator would not show compassion and grace to them. The Lord would thresh from the Euphrates to the brook of Egypt. He blew a great trumpet  to gather the exiles from Assyria and Egypt to worship the Lord in the holy mountain of Jerusalem (Is. 27:7-13). Pray against idolatry and false gods to prepare for corporate worship of God.

Return to God as Source of Strength for Stability and Discernment
Woe to the fading beauty in Ephraim at the head of a fertile valley caused by pride and drunkedness. God judged them with a hailstorm, destructive wind and flooding. In that day, the Lord Almighty would be a glorious crown, beautiful wreath, spirit of justice and source of strength for the remnant of His people who return to God. Wine caused confusion and stumbling among the priests and prophets (Is. 28:1-8). Return to God as source of strength  for internal stability and discernment.

Trust in Christ as Precious Cornerstone for Rest, Justice, Righteousness and Truth
God taught and explained His knowledge to those weaned from milk. He told Israel through foreign lips and strange lips to give rest to the weary. Because of not listening, they would be broken, snared and taken captive. God spoke to scoffers ruling in Jerusalem that their covenant with evil enabled lies and falsehood to became their refuge. God laid a tested and precious cornerstone in Zion as a sure foundation so anyone who trusts in it would not be in a hurry. He made justice the measuring line and righteousness the plumb line so hail would sweep away lies and end their covenant with death and evil. Stop mocking or chains would become heavier since the Lord Almighty told Isaiah of destruction decreed against the land (Is. 28:9-22). Trust in Christ as  tested and precious cornerstone for rest, justice, righteousness and truth.

Listen to God’s Word for Wisdom and Counsel in Right Living
A farmer does not plow continually to break up the soil. After leveling the surface, he sows caraway, scatters cummin and plants wheat, barley and spelt in the proper places. God instructs and teaches him the right way. Caraway is not threshed with a sledge nor a cartwheel rolled over cummin. You beat caraway with a rod, cummin with a stick and ground grain to make bread but not thresh it forever. He drives the wheels of his threshing cart over it but his horses do not grind it. The Lord makes His counsel wonderful and His wisdom great (Is. 28:23-29). Listen to God's word for wisdom and counsel in right living.

Review the underlined summaries to draw near to God, His word and Christ, the cornerstone, so  you can live rightly.

Praising God Develops Your Character and Ministry (Insights in Prophets)

10/1/2012

Picture
"Character is not built by battling and excitement alone. The harvest is not ripened by the thunderous forces of nature, but by the secret silent invisible forces. So the best qualities of our spiritual lives are matured by quietness, silence and commonplace " (A. P. Gouthey).

God matures you spiritually as He opens a door of ministry that no one can shut. Depend on God to develop your character as you trust Him for open doors and provision for ministry by praising His reign, wonderful working and complete healing. Praising God develops your character and ministry.

Depend on God to Prevent Destruction and Enslavement
The slain were not killed by the sword and did not die in battle. Leaders fled together and captured as prisoners while the enemy was far away. Isaiah wept bitterly over the destruction of God's people. The defenses of Judah were stripped away with many breaches in the City of David. They tore down houses to strengthen the wall but had not considered or regarded the One who made and planned it long ago (Is. 22:1-11). Depend on God so He does not destroy and enslave His people.

Repent of Sin to Experience Forgiveness and Not Waste Time in Pleasure
The Lord Almighty called you to weep and put on sackcloth but there was joy, revelry and drinking of wine instead. "Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we may die." This sin would not be forgiven until you died, said the Lord (Is. 22:12-14). Repent of your sin so you experience forgiveness and not waste time in pleasure.

Trust God to Open Doors of Kingdom Ministry
God would throw them tightly like a ball into a large country where they would die. He would dispose them from their office and oust them from their position. God put a robe on Eliakim and handed their authority over to him as a father for those in Jerusalem and Judah. God placed on his shoulder the key to the house of David, What he opened no one could shut and what he shut no one could open. He would be a seat of honor for the house of his father with glory of his family hanging on him. The peg driven in the firm place would give way and the load hanging on it would be cut down (Is. 22:15-25). Trust God to open doors of kingdom ministry and authority that no one can shut.

Support Kingdom Ministries by God Redirecting Money
Tyre, the nations' marketplace, was destroyed so ships from Tarshish had no harbor to enter. Without ships, the renowned traders' pride were humbled as the Lord planned. The Lord gave an order to destroy the fortresses of Phoenicia and crush Sidon's merchants enriched by  seafarers. The Assyrians turned the land of Babylonians into a ruin. The fortress of the ships of Tarshish was destroyed and forgotten for 70 years. Then she applied her trade with all the kingdoms of the earth so her earnings would be set apart for the Lord and not hoarded. Her profits would provide food and fine clothes for those who live before the Lord (Is. 23:1-18). Support kingdom ministries by God redirecting profits and earnings.

Praise God's Power to Reign by Destroying Kings and Cursing Disobedient
The Lord will totally ruin the earth, scatter all its inhabitants and languish the exalted. The earth is defiled by its people when they disobey laws and break the covenant.
A curse consumed the earth and its people bore their guilt. The vine withered and parties stopped. The ruined city lied desolate and joy turned to gloom. They raised their voices and acclaimed the Lord's majesty while giving glory and exalting the Lord's name. Terror and snares awaited the people of the earth. God will punish the powers in the heavens and kings would be shut up in prison. The Lord Almighty reigns in Jerusalem (Is. 24:1-23). Praise God's power to reign over the earth by destroying kings and cursing the disobedient.

Praise God's Wonders as Refuge for Needy in Distress
Isaiah praised God's name for His perfect faithfulness in working wonders planned long ago. He was a refuge for the poor and needy in his distress, a shelter from the storm and a shade from the heat. God stopped the ruthless (Is. 25:1-5).
Praise God's faithfulness in working wonders as refuge for the needy in their distress.

Praise God's Abundant Provision for Complete Emotional and Spiritual Healing
The Lord prepared a feast of rich food with the finest of wines for all people. He destroyed the shroud that enfolded all peoples. He will swallow up death forever, wipe away tears and remove the disgrace of His people from the earth when they trusted in Him for salvation. God brought down the pride and cleverness of of Moab just like He will do with your high fortified walls (Is. 25:6-12). Praise God's abundant provision for complete emotional and spiritual healing.

Consider how God works to develop your character and ministry:
1. Depend on God.
2. Repent of sin.
3. Open doors for ministry.
4. Support of your ministry.

5. Praise God's reign.
6. Praise God's wonders.
7. Praise God's healing.
