To release God's healing for closer heart relationships between fathers and children, surrender your heart to teach whole Bible so you create desire for instruction, unified marriage, purified people, hate oppression, give financially to God's kingdom and expect God to write a scroll of remembrance.

Surrender Your Heart to Show God's Greatness
Malachi told Israel that God showed love by loving Jacob and hating Esau. He turned his mountains into a wasteland called The Wicked Land.  God continually demolished it to prove His greatness to Israel. They did not honor and respect God like a son to His father. The priests despised His name by sacrificing crippled or diseased animals on the altar they would not offer to their governor. God was displeased and found these useless fires unacceptable. They shamed and cheated Him by sacrificing blemished animals instead of offering acceptable males they vowed to give. Israel was to show nations that God was to be feared as a great king (Mal. 1:1-14). Surrender your heart to show God's greatness to unbelievers.

Teach Whole Bible to Create Desire for Instruction
If priests did not set their heart to listen or honor God, He sent a curse and cut off their descendants. He made a covenant of life and peace with Levi so they could reverence His name. True instruction was in his mouth as he walked in peace and uprightness turning many from sin. Priests should preserve knowledge so men would seek instruction from the messenger of the Lord Almighty. But they turned from the way, violated the covenant with Levi and their teaching caused many to stumble. God caused them to be despised and humiliated before everyone since they did not follow His ways showing partiality in matters of the law (Mal. 2:1-9). Teach whole Bible to turn people from sin and create desire for instruction.

Guard Your Spirit for Unified Marriage to Bear Godly Offspring
Judah broke faith with one another by marrying the daughter of a foreign god. God did not accept their offerings because they broke their marriage bond through divorce. He sought godly offspring from the one flesh relationship between husband and wife. Husbands who guarded their spirit prevented breaking faith with the wife of their youth since God hated divorce (Mal. 2:10-16). Guard your spirit for unified marriage to bear godly offspring.

Participate with God to Purify His People and Hate Oppression
They wearied Him saying those who did evil were pleasing to Him and questioning whether there was a God of justice. No one could stand the refiner's fire of God's coming as He purified the Levites like gold and silver. Judah's and Jerusalem's righteous offerings would be acceptable. God would judge sorcerers, adulterers and perjurers. He was against those who defrauded laborers of their wages, oppressed the widows and fatherless, and deprived aliens of justice without fearing God (Mal. 2:17-3:5). Participate with God to purify His people and hate oppression of others.

Give Financially to God's Kingdom and Reap His Blessing
His people should return to God and His word so He would return to them. He cursed Israel because they robbed Him of tithes and offerings. Bringing the whole tithe into the storehouse brought food into His house. By testing Him, they saw Him open the floodgates of heaven to pour out so much blessing that there was no room for it. He prevented pests from devouring crops and fruit from their  fields. All nations called them blessed in a delightful land (Mal. 3:6-12). Give financially to God's kingdom and reap His blessing.

Expect God to Write a Scroll of Remembrance By Fearing Him
Israel said it was futile to serve God since evildoers prospered and those who challenged God escaped. The Lord listened and wrote a scroll of remembrance for people who feared Him and talked with each other. He distinguished between those who served God as His treasured possession and those who did not (Mal. 3:13-18). Expect God to write a scroll of remembrance by fearing Him.

Release God's Healing for Closer Heart Relationships Between Fathers and Children
A day would come to burn the arrogant and every evildoer. For those who revered God's name, the sun of righteousness would rise with healing so they leaped like calves released from the stall. They trampled down the wicked like ashes under their feet. Malachi commanded Israel to remember the law God gave Moses at Horeb. He would send Elijah before the dreadful day of the Lord to turn the hearts of fathers to their children and hearts of children to their fathers or else curse the land (Mal. 4:1-6). Release God's healing for closer heart relationships between fathers and children.

To release God's healing for closer heart relationships between fathers and children:
1. Surrender your heart to teach whole Bible
2. Turn people from sin
3. Create desire for instruction
4. Guard your spirit for unified marriage
5. Bear godly children
6. Participate with God to purify His people
7. Hate oppression of others
8. Give financially to God's kingdom and reap His blessings
9. Expect God to write a scroll of remembrance

Equip Spiritually Healthy People to Disciple the Needy (Insights in Prophets)

In order to equip spiritually healthy people to disciple the needy, grow nations with inter-generational mentoring by encouraging families to mourn over sin that motivates prayer, transform young people into spiritual jewels who attract others through family and friend accountability for character development, and develop  model cities so other nations seek God as king over every area of life.

Develop Model Cities So Other Nations Seek God
God told Zechariah He was jealous and dwelt in Jerusalem, called the City of Truth and Holy Mountain. Both old and young people sat in the streets enjoying themselves. God would bring people from various nations to live, build the temple in Jerusalem and be a blessing as they experienced fruitfulness. Instead of fear, they loved truth and experienced peace with one another and in the courts. The inhabitants of many cities came to Jerusalem to seek God. Ten men from all languages and nations would say to one Jew, "Let us go with you, because we have heard that God is with you" (Zech. 8:1-23). Develop model cities so other nations seek God and His truth.

Transform Young People Into Spiritual Jewels Who Attract Others
The word of the Lord was against Hadrach and His eye was on all mankind. He would remove Tyre's possessions and destroy her power on the seas causing surrounding nations to fear. Foreigners occupied Ashdod and God destroyed the Philistines' pride. Those left became Judah's leaders and He defended His house against enemy oppression. Zechariah prophesied that Jesus would come on a donkey bringing righteousness and salvation. God destroyed Ephraim's chariots and Jerusalem's war-horses. He proclaimed peace, extended His rule and freed prisoners across the world.
God saved them as His flock to sparkle like jewels in a crown, being attractive and beautiful. Grain and new wine made young men and women thrive, respectively (Zech. 9:1-17). Transform young people into thriving spiritual jewels attracting others as you proclaim Christ.

Grow Nations with Inter-Generational Mentoring
Zechariah said to ask God for rain in springtime to grow plants. Idols spoke deceit and diviners told false dreams that gave vain comfort. People wandered like sheep and were oppressed without a shepherd. God's anger burned against the shepherds. He cared for Judah to make them like a proud horse in battle. Judah brought the cornerstone, tent peg, battle bow and every ruler to be like mighty men trampling the muddy streets in battle. God strengthened, saved and restored Judah with compassion. The Ephraimites became like mighty men with glad hearts influencing their children to rejoice in God. He strengthened them in the Lord to walk in His name (Zech. 10:1-12). Grow nations in Christ with inter-generational mentoring.

Equip Spiritually Healthy People to Disciple the Needy
Zechariah said to hear the shepherds wailing because the lack of spiritually mature people led to the destruction of rich pastures. He handed them over to his neighbor and king who pastured the flock marked for slaughter hoping to become rich. He shepherded the oppressed of the flock with two staffs called Favor and Union. In one month he got rid of three shepherds. He broke the staff called Favor revoking the covenant made with the nations. The afflicted of the flock paid him 30 pieces of silver and he threw it into the house of the Lord to the potter. He then broke his second staff called Union breaking the brotherhood between Judah and Israel. The took again the foolish shepherd's equipment who did not care for the lost, seek the young, heal the injured or feed the healthy but ate the choice sheep. He pronounced woe to render the worthless shepherd powerless because he deserted the flock (Zech. 11:1-17). Equip spiritually healthy people to disciple the needy with compassion and unity.

Encourage Families Mourning Over Sin to Motivate Prayer
God was going to make Jerusalem an immovable rock before all nations. He would make Judah's leaders like a firepot in a woodpile and flaming torch among sheaves to destroy all nations that attacked them. God poured out on the house of David and Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication. They would look, mourn and grieve bitterly over the one they pierced. Great weeping in Jerusalem occurred clan by clan with their wives (Zech. 12:1-14). Encourage families to mourn their sin so God can pour out grace and intercession.

Design Family and Friend Accountability for Character Development
On that day, a fountain was opened to the house of David and Jerusalem that cleansed them from sin and banished idols from the land. God removed the prophets and spirit of impurity from the land with accountability to parents. Every false prophet admitted he deceived others and received wounds from his friends. God purified the one-third left as a remnant through fire. He refined them like silver and tested them like gold. They called on His name and He answered them as His people (Zech. 13:1-9). Design family and friend accountability for character development.

Worship God as King Over Every Area of Life for Fruitfulness
Plunder was divided in the day of the Lord. Nations fought and captured Jerusalem with half going into exile and the rest remaining. The Lord fought against those nations and His feet stood on the Mount of Olives splitting it in two from east to west, forming a great valley. They would flee without daytime or nighttime. Living water would flow out from Jerusalem, half to the eastern sea and half to the western sea in summer and winter. The Lord would be king over the whole earth. Jerusalem would be inhabited, never again destroyed. The nations who fought against Jerusalem would have their flesh, eyes and tongue rot. They had great panic and attacked each other. The nations collected their wealth, worshiped the King yearly in Jerusalem and celebrated the Feast of Tabernacles to prevent the plague of no rain. Every person and article would be holy to the Lord (Zech. 14:1-21). Worship God as king over every area of life for fruitfulness.

In order to equip spiritually healthy people to disciple the needy, do the following:
1. Grow nations in Christ with inter-generational mentoring
2. Encourage families to mourn over sin that motivates prayer
3. Transform young people into spiritual jewels who attract others
4. Design family and friend accountability for character development
5. Develop  model cities so other nations seek God and His truth
6. Worship God as king over every area of life

Participate in God's Kingdom Purposes (Insights in Prophets)

Picture
How do you participate in God's kingdom purpose in the world, whether it's arts & entertainment, business, education, family, government, media and religion? Prioritize seeking and building God's kingdom by obeying and recognizing His presence. Be strong and steward God's resources by turning to Him and meditating on His word.

Prioritize Seeking God and See Your Needs Met
God told Haggai during Darius reign to speak to Zerubbabel, Judah's governor, and Joshua, the high priest. People said their time had not come to build the Lord's house. God revealed to Haggai that they were living in paneled houses while His house remained a ruin. They were to consider their ways because they planted much, but harvested little, ate, but never enough, drank, but never satisfied, put on clothes, but not warm. They earned wages but it dissolved like falling through a purse with hole in it (Haggai 1:1-6). Prioritize seeking God and see your needs met.

Prioritize Building God's Kingdom for Spiritual and Economic Prosperity
Haggai said that building God's kingdom honored Him. Building their own saw it blow away. Being busy with their concerns apart from building His kingdom caused ruin, drought and unemployment (Haggai 1:7-11). Prioritize building God's kingdom to assure spiritual and economic prosperity.

Obey and Recognize God's Presence for Empowerment
Zerubbabel, Joshua and the remnant obeyed God through Haggai's message because He sent him and feared Him. He said, "I am with you," and stirred their spirits to work on the house of God 23 days later (Haggai 1:12-15). Obey and recognize God's presence who empowers you to build His kingdom.

Be Strong and Steward God's Resources for His Glory
One month later Haggai asked who saw this house in its former glory. They were to be strong and work since God was with them. Haggai reminded them of His covenant with those who came out of Egypt along with His Spirit that remained in them. In a little while, God would again shake the heavens, earth, sea and dry land so the desired of all nations would come and fill His kingdom with glory. The silver and gold was His. The glory of this present house would be greater than the glory of the former one (Haggai 2:1-9). Be strong and steward God's resources for His glory.

Turn to God Instead of Trusting Yourself
Two month later Haggai asked the priests if the law taught that consecrated meat touching another article could consecrate it as well. They answered no. Haggai asked if a person defiled by contact with a dead body would defile another article by touching it. The priests answered yes. Haggai said their actions and what they offered were defiled.  They were to consider how God struck all their work with blight, mildew and hail, but still did not turn to Him (Haggai 2:10-17). Turn to God and do not trust yourself, which leads to corruption.

Meditate on God's Word for Blessing
They were to give careful thought to the day when the foundation of the Lord's temple was laid. They were to consider whether there was any seed left in the barn since every plant did not bear fruit. From this day on, He would bless them (Haggai 2:18-19). Meditate on God's word to receive blessing from Him.

Glory in God's Choosing You to Participate in His Purpose
God's word came to Haggai a second time on the same day to tell Zerubbabel  that He would shake the heavens and earth, overturn royal thrones, shatter the power of foreign kingdoms and overthrow chariots and their drivers so they were killed. On that day He would make His servant Zerubbabel like His signet ring since God chose him (Haggai 2:20-23). Glory in God's choosing you to participate in His kingdom purpose.

Participate in God's kingdom purpose in the world by doing the following:
1. Seek God
2. Obey and recognize His presence
3. Be strong and steward God's resources
4. Turn to Him and meditate on His word

Steps In Rescuing Prodigals (Insights in Prophets)

4/24/2013

God is active in rescuing prodigals  beginning with His sovereignty that spurs Him to action.  God's holiness protects prodigals from wrath, His love destroys those who harm them, His righteousness leads to godly lifestyle, His truth purifies their lips to call on Him and His power rescues them so they can walk with God.

The proper response of those who desire to rescue prodigals from sin is to reject complacency and idolatry, seek God in humility and righteousness, receive His inheritance, avoid a carefree lifestyle, wait on Him in truth without fear, and take delight in mighty God who empowers prodigals to walk with Him.

God's Sovereignty Spurs Him to Action
God said to Zephaniah during Josiah's reign that He would sweep everything from the earth. He would stretch His hand against those in Judah and Jerusalem who worshiped Baal and Molech without seeking God. He would punish those who filled the temple of their gods with violence and deceit along with the complacent who thought God was inactive. He plundered their wealth and demolished their houses. They would build houses and not live in them and plant vineyards and not drink the wine (Zeph. 1:1-13). Know God hates complacency, idolatry, violence and deceit.

God's Holiness Protects You From Wrath
The day of the Lord brought wrath, distress, anguish, trouble, ruin and gloom. People would walk like blind men because of sin. Their money could not save them. God's jealousy consumed and ended the whole world. The humble  who did what He commanded sought the Lord. They should seek righteousness and humility to gain shelter during the day of the Lord's anger (Zeph. 1:14-2:3). Seek God in humility and righteousness for protection from His wrath.

God's Love Destroys Those Who Harm You
God would destroy the Philistines so the remnant of Judah would dwell in the houses of Ashkelon. He cared and restored their fortunes. Moab and Ammon insulted and made threats against God's people who would inherit their land. After He destroyed all the gods of the land, every nation would worship Him (Zeph. 2:4-12). Receive His inheritance after He destroys every god that insults and threatens you.

God's Righteousness Leads to Godly Lifestyle
God would destroy Assyria and leave Nineveh desolate. This was a carefree city that lived in safety. Nineveh said that there was none besides her. Nineveh became a ruin with everyone scoffing at her (Zeph. 2:13-15). Avoid a carefree lifestyle that leads to ruin and scoffing.

God's Truth Purifies Your Lips
Zephaniah said Jerusalem was rebellious, accepted no correction and did not draw near to the Lord. Her officials were roaring lions, priests did violence to the law and  prophets were angry. God was righteous, dispensed justice and never failed. He demolished strongholds and destroyed cities. People acted corrupted and did not accept correction from God. They waited on Him for purified lips to call on His name. He removed those who rejoiced in pride only leaving the humble who trusted in God's name. Israel's remnant spoke no lies or deceit and no one made them afraid (Zeph. 3:1-13). Wait on God in truth without fear so purified lips can call on His name.

God's Power Rescues Prodigals
God turned back the enemy so Jerusalem did not fear. He was mighty to save and took great delight in them. He quieted them with His love and rejoiced over them with singing. God dealt with all who oppressed them, rescued the lame, gathered the scattered and gave them praise and honor in every land. He brought them home and  restored their fortunes before their eyes (Zeph. 3:14-20). Take delight in mighty God who rescues prodigals so they walk with Him.

Ask God to empower you in the following ways by rescuing prodigals from sin:
1. Reject complacency and idolatry
2. Seek God in humility and righteousness
3. Receive His inheritance
4. Avoid a carefree lifestyle
5. Wait on Him in truth without fear so you can call on Him
6. Delight in mighty God who rescues prodigals so they walk with Him

Rejoice in God to Rise Above Trouble (Insights in Prophets)

4/23/2013

Picture
God does unbelievable and amazing things to accomplish His purpose even when He seems uninvolved and silent while the wicked are destroying the righteous. Wait for truth and God's glory to live by faith rather than in pride, greed and idolatry. Pray and rejoice in God who delivers His people so they have strength to rise above trouble.

Why Does God Seem Uninvolved During Injustice?
Habakkuk asked how long he was to call for help but God did not listen? He looked at injustice but God tolerated wrong, strife and conflict. The law was paralyzed and justice never prevailed. The wicked hemmed in the righteous so justice was perverted (Hab. 1:1-4). Why does God seem uninvolved during strife and injustice?

Know God Does Unbelievable Things to Accomplish His Purpose
God said to watch the nations and be utterly amazed because He was going to do something unbelievable. He raised up the ruthless Babylonians, a law to themselves who promoted their own honor, to seize houses not their own. Their hordes advanced like a desert wind, gathered prisoners like sand, scoffed at rulers, laughed at fortified cities and captured them. Their own strength was their god (Hab. 1:5-11). Know God does amazing and unbelievable things even using ungodly people to accomplish His purpose,

Why was Holy God Silent When Wicked Destroyed the Righteous?
If God was too pure to look on evil, why did He tolerate the treacherous or was silent when the wicked swallowed the righteous? Were they to continue destroying nations without mercy? Habakkuk was to stand at his watch and look to see what He would say and what answer he was to give to this complaint (Hab. 1:12-2:1). Why was a holy God silent when the wicked destroyed the righteous?

Wait for Truth to Live By Faith, Not Pride and Greed
God said to write down the revelation on tablets so a herald would run with it since it awaited an appointed time. Wait for the truth since it would come and not delay. He was puffed up with unrighteous desires but the righteous lived by his faith. His greed made him take nations captive. They woke up and he became their victim (Hab. 2:2-8). Wait for the truth to live by faith, not pride and greed.

Wait for God's Glory To Cover the Earth Instead of Settling for Idolatry
Habakkuk said woe to those who build his realm by plotting the ruin of many people through unjust gain, which shamed their own house. Woe to those who build a city with bloodshed and established a town by crime. God determined that the people's labor was fuel for the fire that exhausted themselves for nothing. The earth was filled with the knowledge of God's glory as the waters cover the sea. Woe to him who gave drink to neighbors till they were drunk so he could gaze on their naked bodies resulting in shame and disgrace. Violence by shedding man's blood overwhelmed them. Because an idol or image taught lies, it could not impart life or guidance. Let the earth be silent before the Lord in His holy temple (Hab. 2:9-20). Wait for God's glory to cover the earth instead of settling for injustice, futile labor and idolatry.

Pray God Makes Himself Known in Delivering His People
Habakkuk stood in awe of God's deeds. He prayed they be renewed and made known in his day. God's glory covered the heavens and His praise filled the earth. Nations trembled in distress and anguish when the mountains crumbled and hills collapsed since His ways were eternal. In wrath, God threshed the nations and crushed the leader of wickedness to deliver and save His people (Hab. 3:1-15). Pray God makes Himself known in defeating wickedness and delivering His people.

Rejoice in God to Have Strength to Rise Above Trouble
Habakkuk waited patiently for the day of calamity to come upon the nation invading them. Though the fig tree did not bud, no grapes on the vine, olive crop failed, fields produced no food, no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, he still rejoiced in God His Savior. The Sovereign Lord was his strength to make his feet like the deer to go on the heights (Hab. 3:16-19). Rejoice in God to have strength to rise above trouble.

Wait for God to do amazing and unbelievable things when the wickedness seems to rule. Wait for truth and God's glory so you can live by faith rather than in pride, greed and idolatry. Pray and rejoice in God who provides strength to rise above trouble.

How to Pray To See Your Wounds Healed (Insights in Prophets)

4/22/2013

Picture
In the preceding book of Micah, you learned how to gain spiritual maturity in order to pray confidently so sin is defeated. Nahum explains how to pray in order to see your wounds healed. By praying God's attributes of goodness, sovereignty, power and truth, your wounds will be healed, especially the lust for control and materialism.

Trust God's Goodness Who Cares
Nahum said the Lord was a jealous God who poured out His wrath like fire against His enemies. He was slow to anger, great in power and did not leave the guilty unpunished. God dried up the sea, withered Bashan and Carmel and trembled the earth. No one withstood His indignation. The Lord was good and a refuge in times of trouble. He cared for those who trusted in Him. He made an end of Nineveh with an overwhelming flood and pursued His foes into darkness (Nahum 1:1-8). Trust God's goodness as a refuge who cares for you in times of trouble.

Trust God's Sovereignty to Bring Good News
God ended plots against Him. Nineveh would be cut down and not afflict Judah any more. God broke their yoke and tore shackles away. He commanded that Nineveh would have no descendants. God destroyed the carved images and cast idols in the temple of their gods. On the mountains was the feet who brought good news and proclaimed peace. Judah celebrated their festivals knowing the wicked would not invade them (Nahum 1:9-15). Trust God's sovereignty to bring the right people to proclaim good news and peace to break the yoke of sin.

Trust God's Power to Restore Health
The Lord would restore Israel's splendor even though the destroyers ruined their vines. Nineveh's troops stumbled and the palace collapsed. It was decreed that the city be exiled like a pool with water draining away. Her wealth was plundered and their hearts melted. God burnt their chariots in smoke and the sword devoured their young lions. The voices of their messengers were no longer heard (Nahum 2:1-13). Trust God's power to restore health and defeat spiritual enemies.

Trust God's Truth to Defeat Lust for Control
Nahum pronounced woe on the city of blood full of lies, plunder and victims because she had lust of a harlot and sorceries. Nineveh enslaved nations by prostitution and witchcraft. God was against her and showed nations her nakedness and shame. All who saw Nineveh said she was ruined and wondered if anyone could comfort her. She was no better than Thebes with Cush, Egypt, Put and Libya as allies and her strength. Thebes was also taken captive, exiled, infants killed and great men chained (Nahum 3:1-11). Trust God's truth to defeat lust for control.

Strengthen Your Spiritual Defenses to Defeat Materialism
Nineveh's fortresses were like fig trees when the first ripe fruit was shaken into the mouth of the eater. The gates of their land were wide open to their enemies with women as troops. They should have strengthened their defenses by repairing the brickwork since fire devoured them. They increased the number of merchants more than the stars who were like locusts that stripped the land. Their guards and officials were like swarms of locusts that flew away when the sun appeared (Nahum 3:12-17). Strengthen your spiritual defenses through prayer to defeat materialism.

Pray God's Attributes to Heal Your Wounds
Their shepherds slumbered, nobles lied down to rest and the people scattered on the mountains. Nothing could heal their wound since their injury was fatal. Everyone who heard news about them celebrated because they felt their endless cruelty (Nahum 3:18-19). Pray God's goodness, sovereignty, power and truth to heal your wounds.

The following explains how to pray in order to see your wounds healed:
1. Trust God's goodness who cares in times of trouble
2. Trust God's sovereignty to bring the right people who proclaim truth and peace
3. Trust God's power to restore health and defeat spiritual enemies
4. Trust God's truth to defeat lust for control
5. Strengthen your spiritual defenses through prayer to defeat materialism
6. Pray God's goodness, sovereignty, power and truth to heal your wounds

How to Defeat Sin and Restore Godly Foundations (Insights in Prophets)

4/20/2013

Picture
To defeat sin and restore Godly foundations, know first of all that sin wounds people. Follow Christ's leadership in hating coveting, defrauding and stealing. Be filled with the Spirit to confront injustice, falsehood and profiteering, which opens the door to teach God's word and restore His kingship and provision. Then His people are in position to trust God in shepherding the body of Christ and destroying spiritual enemies. This provides the context to act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with God for satisfaction and success. The spiritual maturity obtained enables one to pray with total confidence in God to defeat sin.

Know Sin Wounds People and Destroys Godly Foundations
God told Micah during the reigns of Judah's kings including Hezekiah a vision about Samaria and Jerusalem because of their sins. He made Samaria a heap of rubble, laid bare her foundations, broke idols and destroyed her images. Micah wept, went naked and moaned like an owl because her wound came to Judah and Jerusalem having no protection and relief. Aczib deceived Israel's kings who were conquered and exiled (Micah 1:1-16). Know that sin wounds people and destroys godly foundations.

Follow Christ's Leadership in Hating Coveting, Defrauding and Stealing
Those who plotted evil coveted others' possessions and defrauded men of their inheritance. God planned disaster against them that led to ridicule and ruin so no one was in the assembly of the Lord. False prophets said they should not prophesy about these things. God's word did good to those whose ways were upright. Stealing from the rich, taking homes from women and removing blessings from children became acceptable. God gathered the remnant of Israel like a flock with the Lord as their head (Micah 2:1-13). Follow Christ's leadership in hating coveting, defrauding and stealing others' possessions.

Be Filled with the Holy Spirit to Confront Injustice, Falsehood and Profiteering
God did not answer Israel's leaders' prayers who hated justice and took advantage of His people by doing evil. The prophets led His people astray proclaiming peace without visions or answers to their prayers. Micah was filled with power, God's Spirit and justice to tell Jacob and Israel their sin. He warned leaders who despised justice, distorted what was right, build Jerusalem with bloodshed and wickedness, took bribes and profited by their ministries. Jerusalem became rubble and the temple hill was overgrown with thickets (Micah 3:1-12). Be filled with the Holy Spirit to confront injustice, falsehood and profiteering in ministry.

Teach God's Word to Restore His Kingship, Strength and Provision
In the last days, the Lord's temple would be established with people streaming to it as they were taught His ways and walked in His paths. God's word would go out from Jerusalem to judge and settle disputes between many nations. They would beat their swords into plowshares and spears into pruning hooks without fear so they could follow God. He gathered the lame, assembled the exiles and those grieving as a strong remnant under the Lord's rule. He would restore dominion and kingship to Jerusalem while redeeming them from their enemies according to His plan. He gave horns of iron and hoofs of bronze to break nations and used their wealth for the Lord (Micah 4:1-13). Teach God's word to restore His kingship, strength and provision.

Trust God to Shepherd the Body of Christ and Destroy Spiritual Enemies
From small Bethlehem, a ruler over Israel would be born from days of eternity. He would shepherd His flock in the Lord's strength in the name of God so they could live securely. His greatness would reach around the world as their peace. The remnant of Jacob would be among many nations like a lion among the beasts to triumph over enemies. God would destroy chariots, cities, strongholds, witchcraft and carved images so they could no longer cast spells and bow down to the work of their hands (Micah 5:1-15). Trust God to shepherd the body of Christ and destroy spiritual enemies.

Act Justly, Love Mercy and Walk Humbly with God for Satisfaction and Success
The Lord accused Israel of not knowing the Lord's righteous acts. Should Micah come before the Lord with a burnt offering and would He be pleased with thousands of rams and 10,000 rivers of oil? He showed what was good by acting justly, loving mercy and walking humbly with God. The fear of the Lord and heeding the rod were wisdom. Sin caused ruin. They ate but not satisfied, stored up but saved nothing, planted but harvested nothing, pressed olives but used no oil  and crushed grapes but drank no wine. They followed Ahab's traditions to bear the scorn of nations (Micah 6:1-16). Act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with God for satisfaction and success.

Pray with Total Confidence in God to Defeat Sin
The godly were swept from the land with no righteous person left. All men shed blood, rulers demanded bribes and the powerful conspired and dictated their desires. They should put no confidence in a friend and be careful of their words since enemies were members of their household. He waited for God since He heard his prayer. He was Israel's light, they bore God's wrath because of sin and saw their enemies' downfall. A day would come to build walls and extend boundaries with people coming to Israel from Assyria, Egypt and from sea to sea. God would show His wonders as they shepherded His people. Nations would be ashamed, deprived of power, feared Israel and turned to reverence God. No one was like Him who pardoned sin, forgave transgression and delighted to show mercy. God showed compassion, tread sins underfoot and hurled all their iniquities into the depths of the sea (Micah 7:1-20). Pray with total confidence in God to defeat sin.

To defeat sin and restore Godly foundations:
1. Know that sin wounds people
2. Follow Christ's leadership in hating coveting, defrauding and stealing
3. Be filled with the Spirit to confront injustice, falsehood and profiteering

To pursue a high-impact ministry, beware of falling asleep spiritually, reject personal comfort and stop focusing on personal rights to show concern over peoples' eternal destiny. Consider the miracles of God's sovereignty, call for help in distress and offer thanksgiving so people can know Christ and be delivered.

Beware Falling Asleep Spiritually By Fleeing God

God told Jonah to go to Nineveh and preach against it because of their wickedness. But he fled from the Lord, went down to Joppa, paid the fare and sailed in a ship to Tarshish. The Lord sent a great wind so sailors feared and cried out to his own god while throwing cargo into the sea. But Jonah went below deck, laid down and fell asleep. The captain woke him up and asked that he call on his god so they would not die. The lot fell to Jonah, which revealed he was responsible for the storm. After the sailors  asked what he did, his home city and country and nationality, Jonah answered he was a Hebrew who worshiped the Lord, God of heaven, who made the sea and land. The soldiers asked what he did since they knew he was running away from the Lord (Jonah 1:1-11). Beware falling asleep and hitting bottom spiritually by fleeing God.

Consider Miracles of God's Sovereignty to Bring People to Christ
Jonah told the sailors to throw him into the sea to make it calm taking blame for the great storm. The men tried rowing back to land and asked the Lord that they not die for killing Jonah since God did as He pleased. They threw him overboard and the sea grew calm. The men greatly feared the Lord and offered a sacrifice to Him. But the Lord provided a great fish to swallow Jonah who was inside it for three days and three nights (Jonah 1:12-17). Consider the miracles of God's sovereignty to bring people to Christ.

Call for Help in Distress to Receive Life and Deliverance
Jonah called for help in his distress while inside the fish. God answered and listened to his cry. After being hurled and waves swept over him, Jonah said he was banished from God's sight but looked again toward His holy temple. The waters threatened and surrounded him while seaweed wrapped around his head. He sank down to the roots of the mountains, but God brought his life up from the pit. When his life ebbed away, Jonah remembered and prayed to the Lord (Jonah 2:1-7). Call for help in distress to receive life and deliverance.

Offer Thanksgiving to Receive God's Grace and Deliverance
Those who clung to worthless idols forfeited God's grace. A sacrifice of thanksgiving brought salvation from the Lord. He commanded the fish and it vomited Jonah on dry land (Jonah 2:8-10). Offer thanksgiving to receive God's grace, salvation and deliverance.

Prayerwalk and Proclaim God's Message in His Assigned Territory
God's word came to Jonah a second time to go to Nineveh and proclaim the message He gave him. He obeyed the word and took three days to go through Nineveh. After going a day's journey, Jonah proclaimed, "Forty more days and Nineveh will be destroyed." They believed God, declared a fast and everyone put on sackcloth. Nineveh's king covered himself with sackcloth and issued a proclamation for everyone to fast, be covered with sackcloth, call urgently on God and give up evil ways and violence so He would relent and turn from his fierce anger so they could live. God had compassion and did not bring destruction after they turned from their evil ways (Jonah 3:1-10). Prayerwalk and proclaim God's revealed message in His assigned territory for you.

Reject Personal Comfort to Focus on God's Grace
But Jonah's great anger caused a complaint to God that the reason he wanted to flee to Tarshish was knowing God's grace and compassion who relented from sending calamity. He thought it was better to die than live. Jonah made a shelter east of the city, sat in its shade and waited to see what would happen. The Lord provided a vine to provide shade to ease his discomfort. Jonah was very happy, but the next day God provided a worm to chew the vine and scorching east wind so he grew faint. He said it was better to die than live (Jonah 4:1-8). Reject personal comfort to focus on God's grace that delays sending calamity.

Stop Focusing On Personal Rights to Show Concern Over Peoples' Eternal Destiny
God asked Jonah if he had a right to be angry about the vine. He answered that he was angry enough to die. The Lord said he had concern over a vine not under his control. Because Nineveh had greater than 120,000 infants and many cattle, should not God be concerned about that great city? (Jonah 4:9-11). Stop focusing on personal rights to show God's concern over peoples' eternal destiny.

To prayerwalk and proclaim God's message in His assigned territory, beware of falling asleep spiritually, reject personal comfort and stop focusing on rights so you can show concern over peoples' eternal destiny. Consider the miracles of God's sovereignty, call for help in distress and offer thanksgiving so people can know and be delivered in Christ.

The prerequisites in pursuing a high-impact ministry is to show concern over peoples' eternal destiny and the following items hinder it:
1. Beware of falling asleep spiritually
2. Reject personal comfort
3. Stop focusing on personal rights
The priorities in pursuing a high impact ministry so people can know Christ and be delivered:
1. Consider the miracles of God's sovereignty
2. Call for help in distress
3. Offer thanksgiving

Like Jonah, consider prayer walking  in your workplace and/or neighborhood, care for those around you and share the gospel as God opens up opportunities.

Pursue High Impact Ministry (Insights in Prophets)

Obadiah's prophecy provides guidelines to help people pursue high impact ministry by renouncing pride, getting involved when the world attacks Christians and refuse to look down or boast when your brother suffers. Wait for God's holiness to possess and rule in His assigned territory. The next book, Jonah, provides an example of how to be involved in a high impact ministry.

Renounce Pride that Deceives and Destroys

God said Edom would be made small and very despised among the nations as pride deceived her. Living in the clefts of the rocks gave a false sense of security since God would bring her down. Esau was ransacked and hidden treasures destroyed while friends deceived and overpowered them. Those who ate their bread set a trap for them (Obadiah 1-7). Renounce pride that deceives, destroys, entraps and gives false security.

Get Involved When the World Attacks Christians
In that day, God destroyed Edom's wise and understanding men. He terrified warriors and slaughtered  everyone. Shame and destruction covered them because of violence against Jacob. They stood aloof when strangers carried off his wealth and cast lots for Jerusalem (Obadiah 8-11). Get involved when the world attacks Christians to prevent shame and destruction.

Refuse Looking Down or Boasting When Your Brother Suffers
Obadiah said to not look down on, rejoice over or boast when their brother Judah had trouble. They should not seize wealth during their destruction. They should not wait at the crossroads to kill their fugitives or hand over their survivors during trouble (Obadiah 12-14). Refuse looking down, boasting or taking advantage of your brother during trouble.

God desires that we work together across denominational and racial lines. When one congregation suffers, we all suffer. We are in this work together.

Wait for God's Holiness to Possess Territory
The day of the Lord was near and everyone reaped the deeds they sowed. As they drank on His holy hill, all the nations drank continually. Holy deliverance came on Mount Zion with Jacob possessing its inheritance. A fire consumed the stubble of Esau leaving no survivors (Obadiah 15-18). Wait for God's holiness to purify and possess territory for His glory.

Let God Rule in His Territory Assigned to You
People from the Negev would occupy Esau and those from the foothills possessed the land of the Philistines, Ephraim and Samaria. Benjamin would possess Gilead. Israelite exiles in Canaan would possess the land as far as Zarepath. Jerusalem exiles in Sepharad would possess towns in Negev. Deliverers would go on Mount Zion to govern Esau and the kingdom would be the Lord's (Obadiah 19-21). Let God rule in His territory assigned to you.

Use the following guidelines for high impact ministry:
1. Renounce pride that deceives, destroys, entraps and gives false security
2. Get involved when the world attacks Christians to prevent shame and destruction
3. Refuse looking down, boasting or taking advantage of your brother during trouble
4. Wait for God's holiness to purify and possess territory for His glory
5. Let God rule territory He assigns to you

Consider your home, neighborhood and workplace territory God has assigned to you. How does God want to use you so He rules in you home, neighborhood and workplace?

Steps to Make God's Word Primary in Rebuilding Lives (Insights in Prophets)

The steps to make God's word primary in rebuilding lives begin with forgiving sin and studying His word as preparation to obey it, speak truth, not cheat the poor and nourish young people to deal harshly with evil. Then you can plant His word to restore and rebuild lives.

Ask God to Forgive Sin and Study His Word As Preparation for Destroying Idolatry

After God prepared locusts to strip the land clean, Amos cried out for His forgiveness. He asked how Jacob could survive His judgment being so small. God relented after Amos begged Him to stop. He showed him a plumb line that God set among Israel. He would destroy the high places of Isaac, ruin the sanctuaries of Israel and rise against the house of Jeroboam (Amos 7:1-9). Ask God to forgive sin and study His word as preparation for destroying idolatry.

Obey God's Word and Speak Truth Humbly to Confront Sin
Amaziah the priest accused Amos of conspiracy against Jeroboam king of Israel when he predicted his death and exile of God's people. Amaziah commanded Amos to return to Judah and not prophesy anymore at Bethel. Amos said to Amaziah that he was neither a prophet nor prophet's son, but a shepherd who took care of sycamore-fig trees. The Lord took him from tending the flock and told him to prophesy to Israel. God said Amaziah's wife would become a prostitute, his children die by the sword, land divided up and he die in a pagan country with Israel exiled (Amos 7:10-17). Obey God's word and speak truth humbly to confront sin.

Stop Focusing On Excessive Profits that Cheat the Poor
God showed Amos a basket of ripe fruit saying He could no longer spare His people Israel. Songs in the temple turned to wailing with many bodies flung everywhere until there was silence. Those that trampled the needy and humble  asked when they could they sell grain and market wheat after the Sabbath. They skimped the measure, boosted the price, cheated with dishonest scales, bought the poor with silver and needy for a pair of sandals, and sold the sweepings with the wheat (Amos 8:1-6). Stop focusing on excessive profits that cheat the poor.

Use God's Word to Direct and Provide Spiritual Nourishment for Young People
The Lord never forgot what they did. He turned their religious feasts into mourning, singing into weeping and the land sank like the river of Egypt. He sent a famine of hearing the words of the Lord with men staggering and wandering who searched for God's word without finding it. Young men and women fainted because of thirst swearing by the idol of Samaria and falling never to rise again (Amos 8:7-14). Use God's word to direct and provide spiritual nourishment for young people.

Exalt the Lord Almighty Who Deals Harshly with Evil
The Lord told Amos to smash the tops of the pillars and cut off the heads of everyone. God killed those left. He commanded the serpent to bite those who hid at the bottom of the sea. God fixed His eyes on them for evil and not good. The Lord Almighty melted the earth, build His lofty palace in the heaven and poured waters over the land. The Sovereign Lord looked at the sinful kingdom and destroyed it. He gave the command and shook Israel as grain was shaken in a sieve (Amos 9:1-10). Exalt the Lord Almighty who deals harshly with evil.

Plant God's Word To Restore and Rebuild Lives
In that day, God restored David's fallen tent and repaired its broken ruins to possess the remnant of Edom and every nation that bore His name. Days were coming when the reaper was overtaken by the plowman and the planter by the one treading grapes. New wine would drip from the mountains and flow from the hills. He would bring back exiled Israel to rebuild the ruined cities, plant vineyards and make gardens. He would plant Israel in their land never to be uprooted again (Amos 9:11-15). Plant God's word to restore brokenness and rebuild lives.

Here are the steps to make God's word primary in rebuilding lives:

1. Ask God to forgive sin
2. Study His word as preparation to destroy idolatry
3. Obey God's word
4. Speak truth humbly to confront sin
5. Stop focusing on excessive profits or taking advantage of the poor
6. Use God's word to direct and provide spiritual nourishment for young people
7. Exalt the Lord Almighty who deals harshly with evil
8. Plant God's word to restore brokenness and rebuild lives
