How to Know Your Labor in Christ Gains Rest and Significance (Insights in NT)

In order to know your labor in Christ gains rest and significance; remember Israel birthed Jesus how rules and protects; overcome Satan's accusations by Lamb's blood, word of testimony and lose life for His sake, endure patiently and faithfully by resisting the devil and antichrist; resist deception and compromise in the great tribulation;  achieve victory in Christ through purity and faithfulness; and escape eternal torment in hell.

Remember Israel Birthed Jesus Who Rules and Protects
A pregnant woman cried out in pain just before she gave birth. A large red dragon with seven heads, ten horns and seven crown appeared as another sign in heaven. His tail swept a third of the stars out of the sky. The dragon stood in front of the woman to devour her child. She gave birth to a male child who would rule all the nations with an iron scepter. Her child was snatched up to God and to His throne. The woman fled in the desert and where she was protected for 1,260 days (Rev. 12:1-6). Remember Israel birthed Jesus who rules the nations and protects His people during the great tribulation.

Overcome Satan's Accusations by Lamb's Blood, Word of Testimony and Lose Life for His Sake
After Michael and his angels fought the dragon (serpent, devil, Satan) and his angels, he was hurled to earth and led the world astray. Salvation, power and kingdom of God along with the authority of His Christ came. The accuser of brothers who accused them before God day and night was hurled down. Believers overcame him by the Lamb's blood, word of their testimony and willingness to die. Being filled with fury, the devil knew his time was short and pursued the woman who gave birth to the male child. The woman was cared for in the desert for 1,260 days. The serpent spewed water like a river to overtake the woman but the earth swallowed the river. The dragon was enraged and made war against those who obeyed God's commandments and held to Jesus' testimony (Rev. 12:7-17). Overcome Satan's accusations by Lamb's blood, word of testimony and lose your life for His sake.

Endure Patiently and Faithfully By Resisting Devil and Antichrist
A beast (antichrist) came out of the sea with ten horns, seven heads and a mouth like a lion. The dragon gave the beast his power, throne and great authority. The whole world followed the beast who uttered proud words, blasphemies and exercised his authority for 42 months over every tribe, people, language and nation. Men worshiped the dragon because he gave authority to the beast who warred and conquered the saints. Those who names were not written in the book of life belonging to the Lamb worshiped the beast. Because God determined who would go into captivity or killed, saints must patiently endure with faithfulness (Rev. 13:1-10). Endure patiently and faithfully by resisting the devil and antichrist.

Resist Deception and Compromise in Great Tribulation
Another beast (false prophet) came out of the earth with two horns like a lamb who spoke like a dragon. He exercised his authority on behalf of the first beast (antichrist). He made everyone worship the antichrist whose fatal wound was healed. His miraculous signs like fire coming down from heaven deceived men. He ordered an image be set up in honor of the antichrist. He was given power so the image had breath, spoke and killed anyone who refused to worship it. He forced everyone to receive a mark on his right hand or forehead to buy or sell with the beast's number: 666 (Rev. 13:11-18). Resist deception and compromise by not taking a mark to buy or sell from the antichrist,

Achieve Victory in Christ Through Purity and Truthfulness
The Lamb stood on Mount Zion with 144,000 who had His Father's name written on their foreheads. John heard a loud sound like harpists playing their harps singing a new song before the throne, four living creatures and elders. Only the 144,000 redeemed from the earth who stayed pure with women and followed the Lamb wherever He went could learn the song. They were purchased from among men and offered as firstfruits to God and the Lamb. No lie was found in their mouths (Rev. 14:1-5). Achieve victory in Christ through purity and truthfulness so God hears your new song.

Escape Eternal Torment in Hell Knowing Labor in Christ Gains Rest and Significance
Another angel had the eternal gospel to proclaim to those on earth. He said to fear, worship and give the Creator God glory because the time of judgment was coming. A second angel said Babylon the Great fell, which made the nations drink the wine of her adulteries. A third angel said if anyone worshiped the beast, his image and received his mark, he would drink the cup of God's wrath. He would be tormented forever with burning sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and the Lamb. This called for patient endurance for saints who obeyed God's commandments and remained faithful to Jesus. Those who died in the Lord from that point on were blessed since they rested from labor and their deeds followed them (Rev. 14:6-13). Escape eternal torment in hell knowing your labor in Christ gains rest and significance.

Realize Timeliness of God's Wrath in Final Battle of Armageddon
Someone like a son of man was seated on a white cloud with a crown of gold on his head and sharp sickle in his hand. Another angel said to take the sickle and reap because the earth's harvest was ripe. Another angel with charge of the fire called out to an angel to use its sharp sickle to gather clusters of ripe grapes from the earth's vine. It threw them into the great winepress of God's wrath. They were trampled in the winepress outside the city where blood flowed as high as horses' bridles for 180 miles (Rev. 14:14-20). Realize timeliness of God's wrath in final battle of Armageddon.

Know your labor in Christ gains rest and significance by remembering Israel birthed Jesus who rules and protects to escape eternal torment in hell, overcome Satan's accusations by the Lamb's blood, word of testimony and lose life for His sake to achieve victory in Christ though purity and faithfulness, and resist deception and compromise in the great tribulation by enduring patiently and faithfully.

Seeing Prosperity and Influence (Insights in Psalms)

Picture
To see prosperity and influence, one must acknowledge God's reign, confess sins, exalt Him, humble yourself, trust His sovereignty and protection, and worship the King of Kings. Then God's kingdom will come in His time to remove prideful leaders and enable you to endure trials.

Acknowledge God's Reign and Confess Sins
Daniel revealed to Nebuchadnezzar in his dream that he was the large tree   in the middle of the land with abundant fruit where beasts found shelter. His dominion extended to the distant parts of the earth. The Most High issued a decree to drive Nebuchadnezzar away from people, be drenched with dew and given the mind of an animal to eat grass like cattle. Seven times would pass until he acknowledged the Most High as sovereign over men's kingdom given to whoever He wished.  The iron and bronze roots remaining in the ground represented his kingdom being restored when he acknowledged that Heaven ruled. Daniel told Nebuchadnezzar to renounce his sins by doing right and being kind to the oppressed so his prosperity would continue (Dan. 4:1-27). Acknowledge God's reign and confess sins for prosperity.

Exalt God and Humble Yourself
Twelve months later the king said his mighty power built the royal residence for his glory.  A voice from heaven said the dream would be fulfilled with his royal authority taken away. At the end of that time, God restored Nebuchadnezzar's sanity and returned the honor and splendor of his kingdom. God's dominion and kingdom endured across generations. Every person was regarded as nothing with God doing as He pleased. His advisers sought him out and restored his throne greater than before. Nebuchadnezzar praised, exalted and glorified the King of heaven because everything He did was right and His ways were just. He humbled those who walked in pride (Dan. 4:28-37). Exalt God and humble yourself for influence.

Trust God's Sovereignty to Remove Prideful Leaders
While Belshazzar gave a banquet for 1000 nobles, drank wine and praised the gods of gold and silver, a human hand wrote on the wall terrifying the king. Daniel said God gave his father Nebuchadnezzar a high position but when his heart became arrogant and prideful, he was stripped of his glory and lived with animals until he acknowledged Him as sovereign over the kingdoms of men. Because Belshazzar set himself against the Lord of heaven, the writing said God numbered the days of his reign, found wanting and his kingdom was given to the Medes and Persians. Daniel was proclaimed the third highest ruler in the kingdom. Belshazzar was killed and Darius the Mede took over the kingdom (Dan. 5:1-31). Trust God's sovereignty to remove prideful rulers.

Trust God's Protection to Endure Trials
Darius appointed Daniel as one of the three administrators over 120 satraps. Because he distinguished himself by his exceptional qualities, the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom. No one could find corruption since he was trustworthy and not negligent. Even though a decree said no one could worship any god except the king, Daniel prayed three times a day with the windows opened toward Jerusalem. After being thrown in the lion's den, Darius called out anxiously to determine if Daniel's God was able to rescue him from the lions. He answered that the angels shut the lions' mouths finding no wound because he trusted in God. He threw the false accusers in the lions' den along with their wives and children. Darius issued a decree that everyone must fear the living God of Daniel whose kingdom and dominion never ended. He prospered during the reign of Darius and Cyrus the Persian (Dan. 6:1-28). Trust God's protection while enduring trials.

Worship King of Kings Whose Kingdom Continues Forever
In a dream, Daniel saw four great beasts. The first was like a lion with wings of an eagle, second like a bear with three ribs in its mouth, third like a leopard with four wings like a bird and four heads given authority to rule, and a fourth powerful beast with large iron teeth that devoured its victims along with ten horns. A little horn uprooted three of the first horns that spoke boastfully about the Ancient of Days sitting on His throne flaming with fire where countless number stood before Him and the books opened. The beast was killed and thrown into the blazing fire. Others were stripped of their authority but allowed to live for a period of time. One like the son of man approached the Ancient of Days and given authority, glory and sovereign power with men of every language worshiping him. His dominion would never be destroyed (Dan. 7:1-14). Worship King of Kings and Lord of Lords whose kingdom continues forever.

Expect God's Kingdom Coming to Earth in His Time
Daniel interpreted the four great beasts as four kingdoms rising from the earth. The saints of the Most High would possess the kingdom forever. He saw the horn waging war and defeating the saints until the Ancient of Days pronounced judgment in favor of the saints when the time came to possess the kingdom. The fourth beast was the fourth kingdom that devoured and crushed the earth. The ten horns were ten kings coming from this kingdom with one subduing three kings. He spoke against the Most High, oppressed His saints, tried to change laws and had saints handed over to him for 3 1/2 years. His power was destroyed and God's kingdom given to the saints eternally with every ruler worshiping and obeying Him (Dan. 7:15-28). Expect God's kingdom coming to earth in His time.

Pray for God's kingdom to come on earth as it is in heaven to experience prosperity and influence.

Dynamics of Obedience (Insights in Prophets)

1/24/2013

Picture
Give up your friendships, your possessions, your comforts, your ambitions, your reputation, your health and even your life, and you'll find that God will give it all back to you, "pressed down, shaken together and running over" (Luke 6:38) (A. W. Tozer).

God waits for our obedience before He acts. Israel took the first step in the water before God parted the Red Sea.  The widow used up all her oil before God multiplied it as provision for Elisha and her sons.
The little boy provided his five loaves and two fish before Christ fed the 5,000. eremiah obeyed God even when it was unpopular. Sometimes God asks you do something that is makes no sense from a human perspective. Let's see the dynamics of obedience that encouraged Jeremiah to live obediently.

Know Nothing is Too Hard for God

Zedekiah king of Judah imprisoned Jeremiah who prophesied that Babylon would capture Jerusalem. His cousin Hanamel sold his field in Anathoth to Jeremiah according to God's word. He put the deed of purchase in a clay jar to show that houses, fields and vineyards would be bought again. Jeremiah prayed to the Creator and Almighty God where nothing was too hard for Him. He performed miraculous signs in Egypt and gave the Israelites land flowing with milk and honey. Their disobedience resulted in the attack from Babylon. God reminded Jeremiah that nothing was too hard for Him. Instead of listening or responding to discipline, His people set up idols in the house that bore His name and built high places for Baal to sacrifice their children to Molech. In the future, God gave them singleness of heart and action, made an eternal covenant, inspired them to fear Him and planted them back in the land with all His heart and soul. He restored their fortunes and prosperity as He promised in the land (Jer. 32:1-44).  Know that nothing is too hard for God if you obey Him.

Call Upon God for Healing and Forgiveness
God told Jeremiah to call on Him and be told great and unsearchable things they knew not. God healed, brought peace, rebuild, cleansed and forgave His people so Jerusalem brought praise and honor before all nations, which provided prosperity and peace. He fulfilled His promise to Israel and Judah of a righteous Branch sprouting from David's line who did just and right in the land. The Lord Our Righteousness saved Judah and Jerusalem to live in safety. God kept His covenant for David to always have a man sit on Israel's throne and the Levites stood before God to offer burnt and grain offerings continually (Jer. 33:1-26).
Call upon God for healing, peace, rebuilding, cleansing, forgiveness and prosperity.

Turn From Your Wicked Ways
Jeremiah told Zedekiah that he would be captured by Babylon. Then Zedekiah made a covenant with the people in Jerusalem to free their slaves. Because they changed their minds, took back the slaves and did not let them go free every seventh year, they were killed by their enemies. God told Jeremiah to go to the Recabite family and give them wine to drink. They followed their forefather Jonadab to never drink. This became a lesson to Judah and Jerusalem to obey God's word. He sent His prophets continually and told them to turn from their wicked ways and not follow other gods. They disobeyed and experienced every disaster (Jer. 34:1-35:19).  Turn from your wicked ways and do not follow other gods.

Consider Consequences of Disobedience
Lord told Jeremiah to write God's word on a scroll concerning Israel, Judah and other nations. Baruch read the scroll in the Lord's temple on a day of fasting so everyone might turn from their wicked ways after hearing God's planned disasters and wrath. Jehoiakim king of Judah burned the scroll when it was read to him and his attendants. Because the Lord hid Baruch and Jeremiah, they were not arrested. God told Jeremiah to write a second scroll and said the king would have no one to sit on David's throne. He would bring every disaster upon him and his children because they did not listen (Jer. 36:1-32). Consider consequences of disobedience resulting in disaster so no disciples are made.

Experience Persecution
Zedekiah was made king of Judah by Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon in place of Jehoiachin. Neither he nor his attendants paid attention to God's word. Jeremiah told him that the Babylonians would return and burn Jerusalem. He warned Jehoiachin to not be deceived in thinking the Babylonians would leave them alone. Irijah arrested, beat and imprisoned Jeremiah when he tried to get his share of the property in the territory of Benjamin. Jeremiah told Zedekiah that he would be handed to the king of Babylon. He released Jeremiah from prison after he asked what crime he committed (Jer. 37:1-21). Experience persecution when you obey God's word.

Resist Fear of Mistreatment
The officials said Jeremiah should be put to death because he discouraged the remaining soldiers in Jerusalem. He said they would live by going with the Babylonians, but die by sword, famine or plague if they stayed in Jerusalem. They lowered Jeremiah by ropes into the cistern of Malkijah. He sank down into the mud, but later pulled out by Ebed-Melech. Jeremiah told Zedekiah that if he surrendered to the king of Babylon, Jerusalem would not be burned and he and his family would live. Zedekiah said he feared being mistreated by the Jews who went over to the Babylonians. Jeremiah said things would go well with him and his life spared if he obeyed God. Jeremiah did not reveal to anyone what he told Zedekiah (Jer. 38:1-28). Resist short-term fear of mistreatment and experience long-term well-being by obeying God.

Trust in God By Ministering to Obedient Servants
Babylon broke Jerusalem's city wall and took seats in the Middle Gate. Zedekiah and his soldiers left the city at night and headed toward Arabah. He saw the king of Babylon kill his sons and nobles before putting out his eyes and bounding him in shackles to Babylon. Poor people who owned nothing were left behind in Judah. Nebuchadnezzar ordered that Jeremiah be taken to his home among his own people. Ebed-Melech was rescued because he trusted in God  (Jer. 39:1-18). Trust in God by ministering to obedient servants.

  • Ask God to give you a heart of obedience as you realize that nothing is too hard for Him
  • Call upon God for healing and forgiveness
  • Turn from your wicked ways
  • Consider the consequences of disobedience so no disciples are made
  • Be willing to experience persecution if you obey
  • Resist short-term fear of mistreatment by knowing well-being over the long-term
  • Trust in God by ministering to obedient servants

How to Equip Shepherds to Disciple Nations (Insights in Prophets)

12/25/2012

How does the church deal with spiritual, emotional, mental, social and physical devastation in every nation?
Jeremiah taught in Jer. 1-6 that you must drink from rivers of living water to empower prayer and fasting for shepherds after God's heart to disciple biblical illiterate people in every city and nation.

Jer. 7-13 explained how to equip shepherds after God's heart to disciple nations. Deal justly with poor, repent of sin, appreciate God's word and ways, call upon a wise and powerful God, trust Him for protection from persecution, care for nations in complex situations and be humble to praise and honor Him.

Deal Justly with the Poor and Embrace Truth
Jeremiah told Judah to reform their ways and actions to not trust in deceptive words. He asked them to deal justly with the alien, fatherless, widow; not shed innocent blood; not to follow other gods; not allow God's name become a den of robbers and not trust in the temple. By serving the Queen of Heaven, they harmed themselves to their own shame. By following the inclinations of their evil hearts, they went backward and refused correction. When truth perished and vanished from their lips, God rejected and abandoned this generation. Joy and gladness left and the land became desolate (Jer. 7:1-34). Deal justly with the poor and embrace truth to see progress in your city.

Repent of Sin and Know God's Word
Jerusalem relied on deceit, refused to repent of their wickedness and pursued their own course like a horse charging into battle. God's people did not know the requirements of the Lord. The scribes handled God's word falsely. All were greedy for gain. Prophets and priests practiced deceit and dressed peoples' wounds superficially. They called for peace and healing but only terror came. God mourned when enemies crushed His people. No healing was available for the wound of His people (Jer. 8:1-22). Repent of sin and know God's word as the first step to heal wounds.

Appreciate God's Ways
Instead of triumph in God's truth, His people sinned and trusted deception. No one was instructed by God to know what ruined the land. People forsook the Law and followed the stubbornness of their hearts to worship Baal. Let not the wise, strong and rich boast of their wisdom, strength and riches. Instead, let him boast that he understood and knew God since He delighted in kindness, justice and righteousness on earth (Jer. 9:1-26). Appreciate God's ways instead of trusting the deception of man's wisdom, strength and riches.

Call Upon a Wise and Powerful God
Do not learn or fear a nations' worthless ways, customs and idols. No nation or kingdom could endure the wrath of a wise, powerful, eternal God and King. False gods perished as they did not create the heavens and earth. God made the earth, founded the world by wisdom and stretched out the heavens by understanding. He sent lightning and brought wind from His storehouses. Peoples' idols were worthless and they had no knowledge. They felt hopeless to cure their wounds and sickness in their homes and families. Senseless shepherds who did not talk with God caused His flock to scatter. A man did not own his life and could not direct his steps. Jeremiah prayed for God's wrath to be poured on nations that did not call on Him since they destroyed His people (Jer. 10:1-25). Call upon a wise and powerful God to heal your wounds and discover His purpose.

Trust God for Protection from Persecution
God told Judah through Jeremiah to obey His covenant given to those He brought out of Egypt as His people. Throughout history, God warned them to obey Him. Instead, they followed their stubborn, evil hearts and experienced the curses of disobedience and disaster. When evil people plotted to destroy Jeremiah if he continued prophesying against them, he committed his cause to God. God promised to kill his enemies (Jer. 11:1-23). Trust God for protection from persecution while discipling nations in His word.

Care for Nations in Complex Situations
Jeremiah asked why the wicked bore fruit when God was far from their hearts. Even though their grass withered, people thought God would not see it. If someone stumbled in safe country, how could they manage in the thickets by the Jordan? Their brothers betrayed them pretending to speak well. God allowed them to be devoured by their enemies like a speckled bird of prey. Many shepherds ruined His vineyard and turned His pleasant field into a desolate wasteland. The whole land laid waste because no one cared. People wore themselves out and gained nothing. God showed compassion to His people and brought them back to their land. Any nation that learned about God was established among His people. He destroyed those who did not listen to Him (Jer. 12:1-17). Care for nations (niches) living in complex situations so they can fellowship with God's people.

Be Humble and Glorify God
God told Jeremiah to wear and hide a belt so it would be useless. It represented how He ruined Judah's pride in  serving other gods. God planned to bound the house of Israel and Judah as His people for renown, praise and honor. Instead of their wineskins being filled with wine, He filled kings, priests, prophets and everyone with drunkenness so they would not be reconciled with one another. Their pride and not giving glory to God brought darkness, captivity and exile. Trusting false gods scattered and prevented them from doing good (Jer. 13:1-27). Be humble and glorify God so you can praise and honor Him.

Consider the following checklist in equipping shepherds to disciple the nations:
1. Deal justly with the poor to see progress in your city
2. Repent of sin and know God's word as the first step to heal wounds
3. Appreciate God's ways instead of trusting the deception of man's wisdom, strength and riches
4. Call upon a wise and powerful God to heal your wounds and discover His purpose
5.  Trust God for protection from persecution while discipling nations in His word
6. Care for nations in complex situations so they can fellowship with God's people
7. Be humble and glorify God so you can praise and honor Him
Which one will you begin to apply now?

Preparation to Receive God's Word (Insights in Prophets)

8/26/2012

Picture
We wonder why people don't obey God's word after hearing it. Certain things must be in place for people to be doers of the word. For disciples to receive God's word, they must consider His holiness, experience forgiveness of sin, trust God's protection and presence and reject faith in humankind and their strategies.

Consider God's Holiness
In the year King Uzziah died, Isaiah saw the Lord sitting on a high and exalted throne with the train of his rope filling the temple. Above Him were seraphs with six wings each calling to one another, "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of His glory." The doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke. Isaiah cried out that he was ruined with unclean lips and living among a people of unclean lips but his eyes saw the King, the Lord Almighty (Is. 6:1-5). Consider God's holiness to reveal personal and community sin.

Experience Forgiveness of Sin
A seraphim flew with a burning coal taken from the altar and touched Isaiah's mouth. He said his iniquity was taken away and sin forgiven. The Lord said, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" Isaiah said, "Here am I. Send me!" He said to go and tell this people that they were always hearing but never understanding and always seeing but never perceiving. Their hearts were insensitive, ears dull and eyes dim so they could not hear, understand, return to the Lord and be healed. The Lord said Isaiah would do this until cities lie ruined without people, houses deserted, fields ravaged and land completely forsaken. A tenth as the holy seed would remain in the land as a remnant like a stump in the land (Is. 6:6-13). Experience forgiveness of sin and hear God's call as an ambassador of reconciliation.

Trust God's Protection
Rezin, king of Aram and Pekah, king of Israel, battled against Ahaz, king of Judah, without conquering them. Israel's king and peoples' hearts shook like trees in the wind. Isaiah and his son told Ahaz to be calm, not fear or be fainthearted because of the fierce anger of these two kings who planned evil against them. God said their terror would not make a breach in its walls. Within 65 years Ephraim would be no longer be a people because of their unbelief (Is. 7:1-9). Trust God's protection, stay calm and do not fear when people seek evil.

Live in God's Presence
The Lord told Ahaz to ask for a sign but he refused not wanting to test God's patience. The Lord gave the sign of a virgin who would bear a son whose name would be called Immanuel. He would eat curds and honey when he was old enough to refuse evil and choose good. The land of the two kings they dreaded would be laid waste in the early childhood of the boy. The Lord would bring the king of Assyria causing great natural and economic trials to Judah (Is. 7:10-25). Live in God's presence instead of testing His patience by exercising faith in humankind.

Reject Faith in Humankind
The Lord said to write ordinary letters on a large tablet, "Swift is the booty, speedy is the prey," and called Uriah the priest and Zechariah as reliable witnesses. He went to a prophetess and she gave birth to a son named, "Swift is the booty, speedy is the prey." The wealth of Damascus and spoil of Samaria would be carried away by the king of Assyria. These people rejected the gently flowing waters of Shiloah and rejoiced in Rezin and Pekah. As a result,  Judah experienced devastation by the king of Assyria (Is. 8:1-8). Reject faith in humankind to prevent your land from being devastated.

Reject Human Strategies
All nations that prepared for battle would be shattered. They devised their strategy but it was thwarted "for God is with us." God warned them with mighty power not to follow the way of this people and say, 'It is a conspiracy,' what the people called a conspiracy. They were not to fear what they feared or be in dread of it, but regard God as holy. He was  their fear and dread. He would become a sanctuary for both houses of Israel as a stone that caused men to stumble and a trap and snare for the people of Jerusalem (Is. 8:9-15). Reject human strategies by regarding God's holiness and presence.

To be in position to receive the Word, these prior things--consider God's holiness, experience forgiveness of sin, trust God's protection and presence, and reject faith in humankind and their strategies--must be in place.

Receive God's Word
Bind up the testimony and seal the law among His disciples. Isaiah would wait and trust in the Lord who hid his face from the house of Jacob. He and the children God gave him were signs and wonders in Israel from the Lord Almighty. They consulted the Lord and not mediums and spiritists men suggested. If they did not speak according to the law and testimony, they had no dawn but were distressed, hungry and their anger caused them to curse their king and God. They would see only distress and fearful gloom and be thrust into utter darkness looking toward the earth (Is. 9:16-22). Disciples receive God's word so they can consult and speak of the Lord as signs and wonders in the land.

Preparation Steps in Receiving God's Word:
1. Consider God's holiness to reveal personal and community sin.

2. Experience forgiveness of sin and hear God's call as an ambassador of reconciliation.
3. Trust God's protection, stay calm and do not fear when people seek evil.
4. Live in God's presence instead of testing His patience by exercising faith in humankind.
5. Reject faith in humankind to prevent your land from being devastated.
6. Reject human strategies by regarding God's holiness and presence.

To be in position to receive the Word, these prior things--consider God's holiness, experience forgiveness of sin, trust God's protection and presence, and reject faith in humankind and their strategies--must be in place first.

7. Disciples receive God's word so they can consult and speak of the Lord as signs and wonders in the land.

Ingredients in Living Under the Reign of God (Insights in Psalms)

10/25/2011

Robert Webber, in his book, The Younger Evangelicals wrote, “The calling of the church in every culture is to be mission. That is, the work of the church is not to be an agent or servant of the culture. The churches’ business is not to maintain freedom or to promote wealth or to help a political party or to serve as the moral guide to culture. The church’s mission is to be the presence of the kingdom… The church’s mission is to be show the world what it looks like when a community of people live under the reign of God.” Psalm 105 explains the ingredients necessary for people to live under the reign of God.

Intimacy
Thank, praise, speak and glory in His holy name and wonderful acts. Those who  seek the Lord and His strength continually will have glad hearts. Abraham's offspring will remember His judgments (Ps. 105:1-7). Gladness and knowing God's glory come by seeking the Lord and His strength.

Covenant
God's faithfulness continues throughout all generations beginning with His covenant with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. He promised Canaan as their inheritance when they were few in number. He protected their prophets, permitted no man to oppress them and reproved kings for their sakes (Ps. 105:8-15). Relying on God's covenant with Abraham protects and allows you to prosper.

Wisdom
When famine came, God sent Joseph who was sold as a slave and tested before being made ruler to teach his elders wisdom. God caused His people to be very fruitful and stronger than their adversaries (Ps. 105:16-24). Wisdom and strength comes from God through His called people.

Deliverance
When hate came, God sent Moses and Aaron to perform miracles like sending darkness, turning waters to blood, causing fish to die, and a land swarming with frogs, flies, locusts and hail. Lastly, God killed all the first-born and first-fruits (Ps. 105:25-36). Deliverance through miracles comes from God mediated through His called people.

Obedience
He brought them out with silver and gold. God spread a cloud for a covering and fire to illumine by night. They asked and He brought quail, bread of heaven and water from a rock. He remembered his promise to Abraham and gave them the nations' lands so they could take possession of the peoples' labor and observe His laws (Ps. 105:37-45). Obey God's word and receive His provision, guidance and inheritance of the nations.

Consider how you are living under the reign of God:
1. I seek to know God intimately every day
2. I appreciate the protection and promises of the Abrahamic Covenant
3. I am open to God's wisdom and strength in everyday life
4. I embrace God's deliverance through His miracles
5. I obey God's word and receive His provision, guidance and inheritance

Key to Happiness (Insights in Psalms)

7/24/2011

Picture
People keep searching for the key to happiness. People fill their lives with so many things: working on a computer,  talking on their cell phones, listening to the radio, watching the television, combing our hair, etc. The more multi-tasking one can do the better, we often reason. God has another plan. He wants us to be living in the present moment through our relationship with God. Psalm 91 shows how you can trust God's power for security and protection so you can enjoy life.

Trust
I trust the Supreme and Almighty God as "my refuge and my fortress." God delivers you from snares and destruction. Under His wings and faithfulness, you seek refuge (Ps. 91:1-4). Trust God's faithfulness and power to deliver you from destruction.

Security
You don't have to be afraid of terror, arrows, pestilence or destruction by day or night. No harm will come near you. Since God pays back the wicked, security comes when you make God your refuge and dwelling place. No evil or plague will come against you (Ps. 91:5-10). Make God your security in an ever-changing and evil world.

Protection
God's angels guard you in all your ways, both defensively and offensively. They lift you up so you don't experience major harm and allow you to defeat evil powers (Ps. 91:11-13). God sends angels to protect and defeat evil powers against you.

Satisfaction
Because you love Him, God delivers and sets you securely on high because of your intimate relationship with Him. He answers your prayers and is present in trouble. He rescues and honors you. Satisfaction in a long life comes as you feast  your eyes on His deliverance, which leads to good health and prosperity (Ps. 91:14-16). God rescues and satisfies you with everything to enjoy.

Answer the following questions:
1. What are you fearful or anxious about?
2. What do you see that could hurt you?
3. Where do you need help in a relationship or activity?
Live in the present by taking each of these concerns to God on a moment-by-moment basis so His angels can minister to you continuously.

God's Unmistakable & Powerful Messages and Character (Insights in Law)

Many people have hardened hearts because they haven't made a distinction between God's unmistakable and powerful messages and the world's. God uses tough circumstances, pestilence, bad health and natural disasters to get our attention to we listen to Him. People also exalt themselves above God by not acknowledging His unmistakable and powerful character. They don't take God's word seriously. God protects believers. He shows unbelievers His righteousness so they will admit their sin. The dynamics of hardened hearts, exalting self and not taking God's word seriously is demonstrated by Pharaoh in contrast to God's unmistakable and powerful messages and character to protect believers and show enemies His righteousness in Ex. 9.

God's Unmistakable & Powerful Messages
Lord said to Moses to tell Pharaoh to let His people go so they may serve Him. If he refused to let them go, the Lord's hand would come with severe pestilence on Egypt's livestock and animals in order to make a distinction with Israel's surviving. The Lord said He would take action tomorrow. Pharaoh’s heart hardened after Egypt's cattle died, but not Israel’s. He did not let the people go (Ex. 9:1-7). God makes
His messages unmistakable from the world's.

Handfuls of soot from a kiln thrown by Moses became boils, which broke out with sores on man and beast. Magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils. Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart and did not listen to them, just as the Lord had spoken to Moses (Ex. 9:8-12). God defeats Satan's power.

God's Unmistakable & Powerful Character
The Lord instructed Moses to tell Pharaoh to let His people go that they may serve Him. God would send all His plagues on everyone to let Pharaoh know there is no one like Him in all the earth. God kept him alive to show His power and proclaim His name through all the earth. Moses said, "Still you exalt yourself against My people by not letting them go” (Ex. 9:13-17). God proclaims His power and name with miracles throughout the earth.

God promised He would send heavy hail in Egypt that would kill every living thing outside. One who feared the word of the Lord made his servants and livestock flee into houses but one who regard the word left them in the field (Ex. 9:18-21). Those who regard God's word instead of hardening their hearts take appropriate action to protect themselves.

God Shows Believers His Protection
Moses stretched out his staff and the Lord sent thunder, hail and fire more severe than ever in Egypt. Only in Goshen where Israel lived was there no hail (Ex. 9:22-26). God stops natural disasters from hurting God's people.

God Shows Enemies His Righteousness

Pharaoh said to Moses and Aaron that he had sinned and admitted the Lord is the righteous one while he and the people were wicked. Pharaoh asked them to make supplication to the Lord because of the thunder and hail before letting them go.  Even though Moses said he would stop the hail, he knew that Pharaoh and his servants didn't fear the Lord God.  Flax and barley were ruined, but not the late ripening wheat and spelt. When Pharaoh saw  the rain, hail and thunder stop, he sinned, hardened his heart and did not let Israel go (Ex. 9:27-35). Miracles and natural disasters show God is righteous.

How have you seen God use tough circumstances, pestilence, bad health and natural disaster to proclaim His power and name? What action will you take in response to God's word to protect yourself, family and friends from disaster?

Ways God Protects You (Insights in Prophets)

When danger chases after you, do you get angry, give up or fight it? When things don't go your way, do you run hoping the grass is greener on the other side? In  1 Sam. 23, we learn from David's experiences with Saul about specific strategies in protecting yourself from danger. Instead of defeat, become an overcomer. Although specific prayer provides a foundation, other people, your own thinking and God's sovereignty work together in helping you overcome danger and stress.

David learned Philistines were fighting Keilah and plundering threshing floors. David asked the Lord if he should go and attack the Philistines. The Lord said to attack the Philistines and deliver Keilah. David’s men said they were afraid in Judah. Then David inquired once more and the Lord answered, “Arise, go down to Keilah, for I will give the Philistines into your hand.” David and his men struck them with a great slaughter and delivered Keilah (1 Sam. 23:1-6). God gives specific strategies in answer to prayer in the midst of danger.

Abiathar the son of Ahimelech came down with the ephod in his hand. Saul summoned all the people to wage war against David in Keilah. He knew Saul was plotting evil against him and asked Abiathar the priest to the bring the ephod. David asked God if Saul would come to the city and whether Keilah would surrender him into his hand. After asking a second time, God said they would surrender him. David and his 600 men departed and he stayed in the wilderness in the strongholds as Saul sought him everyday but God did not deliver him into his hand. (1 Sam. 23:7-14). God provides wisdom in answer to specific prayer so you are protected from evil.

When David became aware that Saul was seeking his life, Jonathan encouraged him in God by saying not to be afraid as Saul wouldn't find him and he would eventually become king with Jonathan next to him. The two of them made a covenant before the Lord (1 Sam. 23:15-18). God uses accountability partners to encourage you during times of danger and stress.

The Ziphites suggested to Saul that David was hiding with them in strongholds at Horesh. Saul asked for verification of David's hiding place before he would go with them since he was aware of his cunning ways (1 Sam. 23:19-23). God uses sanctified and shrewd thinking for protection.

When Saul and his men went to find David, he stayed in the wilderness of Maon after being told of their search. Saul pursued him on one side of the mountain and David and his men stayed on the other side. A messenger came to Saul saying the Philistines made a raid on the land so he suspended his search of David. The place was called the Rock of Escape (1 Sam. 23:24-29). God sovereignly arranges circumstances for your protection.

Review the following strategies and ask how God wants you to apply them in your "dangerous" situation:
1. Ask God to show you how to respond in the situation.
2. Ask God for wisdom on how to be protected from evil.
3. Allow your accountability partner or friend to encourage you in times of danger.
4. Use sanctified and shrewd thinking to overcome danger.
5. Trust God's sovereignty to arrange circumstances for your protection.
