In order to know your labor in Christ gains rest and significance; remember Israel birthed Jesus how rules and protects; overcome Satan's accusations by Lamb's blood, word of testimony and lose life for His sake, endure patiently and faithfully by resisting the devil and antichrist; resist deception and compromise in the great tribulation;  achieve victory in Christ through purity and faithfulness; and escape eternal torment in hell.

Remember Israel Birthed Jesus Who Rules and Protects
A pregnant woman cried out in pain just before she gave birth. A large red dragon with seven heads, ten horns and seven crown appeared as another sign in heaven. His tail swept a third of the stars out of the sky. The dragon stood in front of the woman to devour her child. She gave birth to a male child who would rule all the nations with an iron scepter. Her child was snatched up to God and to His throne. The woman fled in the desert and where she was protected for 1,260 days (Rev. 12:1-6). Remember Israel birthed Jesus who rules the nations and protects His people during the great tribulation.

Overcome Satan's Accusations by Lamb's Blood, Word of Testimony and Lose Life for His Sake
After Michael and his angels fought the dragon (serpent, devil, Satan) and his angels, he was hurled to earth and led the world astray. Salvation, power and kingdom of God along with the authority of His Christ came. The accuser of brothers who accused them before God day and night was hurled down. Believers overcame him by the Lamb's blood, word of their testimony and willingness to die. Being filled with fury, the devil knew his time was short and pursued the woman who gave birth to the male child. The woman was cared for in the desert for 1,260 days. The serpent spewed water like a river to overtake the woman but the earth swallowed the river. The dragon was enraged and made war against those who obeyed God's commandments and held to Jesus' testimony (Rev. 12:7-17). Overcome Satan's accusations by Lamb's blood, word of testimony and lose your life for His sake.

Endure Patiently and Faithfully By Resisting Devil and Antichrist
A beast (antichrist) came out of the sea with ten horns, seven heads and a mouth like a lion. The dragon gave the beast his power, throne and great authority. The whole world followed the beast who uttered proud words, blasphemies and exercised his authority for 42 months over every tribe, people, language and nation. Men worshiped the dragon because he gave authority to the beast who warred and conquered the saints. Those who names were not written in the book of life belonging to the Lamb worshiped the beast. Because God determined who would go into captivity or killed, saints must patiently endure with faithfulness (Rev. 13:1-10). Endure patiently and faithfully by resisting the devil and antichrist.

Resist Deception and Compromise in Great Tribulation
Another beast (false prophet) came out of the earth with two horns like a lamb who spoke like a dragon. He exercised his authority on behalf of the first beast (antichrist). He made everyone worship the antichrist whose fatal wound was healed. His miraculous signs like fire coming down from heaven deceived men. He ordered an image be set up in honor of the antichrist. He was given power so the image had breath, spoke and killed anyone who refused to worship it. He forced everyone to receive a mark on his right hand or forehead to buy or sell with the beast's number: 666 (Rev. 13:11-18). Resist deception and compromise by not taking a mark to buy or sell from the antichrist,

Achieve Victory in Christ Through Purity and Truthfulness
The Lamb stood on Mount Zion with 144,000 who had His Father's name written on their foreheads. John heard a loud sound like harpists playing their harps singing a new song before the throne, four living creatures and elders. Only the 144,000 redeemed from the earth who stayed pure with women and followed the Lamb wherever He went could learn the song. They were purchased from among men and offered as firstfruits to God and the Lamb. No lie was found in their mouths (Rev. 14:1-5). Achieve victory in Christ through purity and truthfulness so God hears your new song.

Escape Eternal Torment in Hell Knowing Labor in Christ Gains Rest and Significance
Another angel had the eternal gospel to proclaim to those on earth. He said to fear, worship and give the Creator God glory because the time of judgment was coming. A second angel said Babylon the Great fell, which made the nations drink the wine of her adulteries. A third angel said if anyone worshiped the beast, his image and received his mark, he would drink the cup of God's wrath. He would be tormented forever with burning sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and the Lamb. This called for patient endurance for saints who obeyed God's commandments and remained faithful to Jesus. Those who died in the Lord from that point on were blessed since they rested from labor and their deeds followed them (Rev. 14:6-13). Escape eternal torment in hell knowing your labor in Christ gains rest and significance.

Realize Timeliness of God's Wrath in Final Battle of Armageddon
Someone like a son of man was seated on a white cloud with a crown of gold on his head and sharp sickle in his hand. Another angel said to take the sickle and reap because the earth's harvest was ripe. Another angel with charge of the fire called out to an angel to use its sharp sickle to gather clusters of ripe grapes from the earth's vine. It threw them into the great winepress of God's wrath. They were trampled in the winepress outside the city where blood flowed as high as horses' bridles for 180 miles (Rev. 14:14-20). Realize timeliness of God's wrath in final battle of Armageddon.

Know your labor in Christ gains rest and significance by remembering Israel birthed Jesus who rules and protects to escape eternal torment in hell, overcome Satan's accusations by the Lamb's blood, word of testimony and lose life for His sake to achieve victory in Christ though purity and faithfulness, and resist deception and compromise in the great tribulation by enduring patiently and faithfully.

Blessings of Obeying God (Insights in Law)

"This is the secret of joy. We shall no longer strive for our own way; but commit ourselves, easily and simply, to God's way, acquiesce in His will, and in so doing find our peace" (Evelyn Underhill)

Blessings, abundance and significance come as you are obedient to God. Suffering, disease, isolation, poverty and insignificance come from disobedience.

Take some firstfruits from the land for the priest to set down before the altar of the Lord to say that their father was a wandering Aramean in Egypt where they were mistreated with hard labor. The Lord heard their cry, saw their oppression and brought them out of Egypt with signs and wonders into a land flowing with milk and honey while worshiping and rejoicing. They paid the tithe in the third year to the Levite, alien, fatherless and widow so they could eat and be satisfied. They gave the sacred portion to the Levite, alien, fatherless and widow according to God’s commands with all their heart and soul. They declared that the Lord was their God and would walk in His ways as His holy people and treasured possession to be set in praise, fame and honor high above all nations (Deut. 26:1-19). Give to the needy to show your deliverance from sin and intimacy with God.

Moses and the elders commanded the people to keep all God’s commands, write the law on large stones, build an altar with uncut stones and offer burnt and peace offering to the Lord. Moses and the Levites told Israel to listen in silence as they became God’s people to obey His commands. Simeon, Levi, Judah, Isaachar, Joseph and Benjamin stood on Mount Gerizim to bless the people (Deut. 27:1-12). Listen and trust in God's work, not the flesh, in order to obey His word.

Reuben, Gad, Asher, Zebulun, Dan and Naphtali stood on Mount Ebal to pronounce curses. The Levites recited the following curses: a craftsman who cast an idol or carved an image secretly, one who dishonored his father or mother, moved neighbor’s boundary mark, led blind astray on the road, withheld justice from the alien, fatherless or widow, slept with his father’s wife, sister or mother-in-law, had sexual relations with any animal, killed his neighbor secretly, accepted bribe to kill an innocent person and did not upheld the words of this law by carrying them out (Deut. 27:13-26). Recite curses verbally concerning secrecy and deception regarding idols, sexual sin, private property and personal relationships with the needy.

By fully obeying God’s commands, He would set them high above all nations with blessings everywhere. The Lord defeated enemies that rose up against them, send a blessing on their barns and work, and established them as His holy people if they kept His commands. Then people of the earth saw that they were called by His name and feared them. God granted abundant prosperity in their crops and opened the heaven to bring rain. They lent to many nations but borrowed from none, became the head and not the tail and were  at the top and never the bottom as they followed God’s commands instead of other gods (Deut. 28:1-14). Obey God to experience blessings, abundance and significance.

By not obeying the Lord, curses overtook them everywhere until they were ruined with a wasting disease, scorching heat and drought. Their enemies defeated them and were afflicted with boils, tumors, sores, madness, blindness and confused mind causing failure everywhere. Pledged a woman but another man married her, build a house but not live in it and planted a vineyard but not enjoy its fruit. They sowed much seed but harvested little when locusts devoured it. Their children went into captivity, lived among aliens who became the head and served enemies. Israel lived in dire poverty with an iron yoke on their neck. The Lord brought a disrespectful nation against them whose language they did not understand. By not revering God’s awesome name, He sent fearful plagues, harsh disasters and severe illnesses that they dreaded in Egypt causing much death. The Lord scattered them to worship other gods. They were anxious and weary being filled with despair and dread (Deut. 29:1-68). Disobey God to experience suffering, disease, isolation, poverty and insignificance.

Their eyes saw the trials and miraculous signs God did to Pharaoh in Egypt. He led them for forty years in the desert without bread and insufficient clothes so they would know that the Lord was God. They defeated Sihon king of Heshbon and Og king of Bashan and gave their land as an inheritance to the Reubenites, Gadites and half-tribe of Manasseh. Following the covenant caused them to prosper in everything they did. The detestable images and idols of wood, stone, silver and gold warned them about a root  producing bitter poison in worshiping the nations’ gods. Moses said it was unsafe to hear the covenant and go their own way. It brought disaster on the land, no forgiveness, wrath and all the curses written in the book, which blotted their name out from under heaven. Generations to come and foreigners from distant lands asked why the Lord did this when they saw the diseases and burning waste of salt and sulfur so nothing could be planted like Sodom and Gomorrah. The secret things belonged to God and the things revealed belonged to them and their children forever so they could follow the words of the law (Deut. 29:1-29). Obey God to experience forgiveness and profound influence in the sphere He appoints for you.

When blessings and curses came, they returned and obeyed God with all their heart and soul. He restored their fortunes, showed compassion and gathered them from all the nations where they were scattered. They became more prosperous and numerous than their fathers. The Lord circumcised them and their descendants’ hearts to love God with all their heart and soul in order to live. The Lord put all these curses on their enemies who hated and persecuted them so they could prosper in their work. The word God commanded was not difficult or beyond their reach, but in their mouth and heart so they could observe it. He set before them life and prosperity or death and destruction depending if they loved God and obeyed His voice to live long in the land. Moses called heaven and earth as witnesses. He set before them life and death, blessings and curses. If they chose life in the Lord, they and their children lived (Deut. 30:1-20).
Love God by listening to His voice for life, blessings and increased disciples.

Are you motivated to obey God with all your heart and soul after reflecting on the blessings of obedience?

Where Does Sense of Identity Originate? (Insights in Prophets)

I grew up in a home that emphasized getting good grades and pursuing a career. Parents today seem obsessed in getting their children into a variety of sports, music and other extra-curricular activities so they can get ahead. In today's passage, you observe people getting their identity in work and achievements. God has a better way.

In Judges 12, Ephraim told Jephthah: “Why did you cross over to fight against Ammon without calling us to go with you? We will burn your house down on you.” Jephthah said their concern was unwarranted because they didn't  respond to his call for help in delivering him from Ammon. The Gileadites followed Jephthah into battle after they were accused of being fugitives in midst of Ephraim and Manasseh. A linguistic test was designed to sort out whether someone was a Ephraimite (Judges 12:1-6). People often get their identity and sense of worth from work, accomplishments and family connections.

Israel's wickedness caused them to be ruled by the Philistines for 40 years. The angel of the Lord said to Manoah's wife that she would give birth to a son even though barren. Drinking wine or eating any unclean thing would be prohibited because their son would dedicated to God as a Nazirite in delivering Israel from the Philistines (Judges 13:1-5).

After hearing about the angel's appearance, Manoah asked the Lord to teach them what to do when their son was born. God listened and the angel came to woman again. Manoah asked the angel, “When you words come to pass, what shall be boy’s mode of life and his vocation?” The angel responded, “Let the woman pay attention to all I said. She should not eat anything that comes from vine nor drink wine, nor eat any unclean thing, let her observe all I commanded.” After Manoah expressed his desire to prepare a kid (he was clueless who he was speaking to), the angel told him to prepare a burnt offering and offer it to the Lord. After asking for his name, the angel said,  “Why do you ask my name, seeing it is wonderful?” (Judges 13:6-18). The process of spending intimate time with Christ is more important than your goal-directed behavior.

Manoah offered a grain offering on the rock to the Lord and He performed wonders while Manoah and wife looked. The angel ascended in the flame of the altar. Then Manoah knew he was the angel of the Lord. After expressing his concern that they would die after seeing God, his wife said, "If the Lord had desired to kill us, He would not have accepted a burnt offering and a grain offering from our hands, nor would He have shown us all these things, nor would He have let us hear things like this at this time" (Judges 13:19-23). Knowing and obeying God is more important than discovering our mode of life and vocation.

1. Do you get your identity and sense of significance from your vocation? yes or no
2. Do you get your identity and sense of significance from your ministry? yes or no
3. Do you get your identity and sense of significance from your family? yes or no
Meditate on 1 Peter 2:9-10 and ask God to renew your mind so your identity comes from your relationship with Christ.

From Mourning to Significance (insights in Law)

When my mother and father died within five months of each other in Aug. 2006 and Jan. 2007,  I mourned deeply over the loss. I still remember them everyday. The grieving process reminded me the brevity of life and greater realization to be about our Father's business. Time is short. Only what's done for Christ will last (John 9:4). Is anything more significant than that?

Abraham provides a great example of mourning loss through the death of his wife, Sarah.  After she died, Abraham wept and mourned for her (Gen. 23:2).

Once Abraham acknowledged he was a stranger and sojourner, he then asked for a burial site to bury his wife out of sight. God gives you time for mourning as you process the truth that earth is not your true home.  There's a time to mourn and weep over death of  loved ones and a time to move forward with life.  This applies not only to death of loved ones, but your heart surrender to God of what's most precious to you like Abraham's with Isaac (Gen. 22:2; 23:4).

Because sons of Heth respected Abraham, they allowed him to bury Sarah in a choice grave, which included a field and cave. Abraham paid the full price of 400 shekels of silver after negotiations. Paying market price for needed services provides a good testimony of your Christian faith. Two-way respectful relationships of mutual give-and-take with community leaders allows you to accomplish kingdom of God objectives (Gen. 23:5-16).

God provides the time to weep, time to laugh, time to mourn and time to dance (Eccl. 3:4). Abraham illustrated the truth of 1 Peter 2:11-12 as he saw himself as an alien and stranger on earth and abstained from fleshly lusts to keep his behavior excellent among the Gentiles so God could be glorified.

Memorize and mediate on 1 Peter 2:11-12. What loss or sin must you mourn and then surrender to God so He can be glorified in your life?
