The following describe how to choose spiritual leaders who practice and teach God's word:
1. Follow God's Word to form an intimate relationship with Him as you surrender and confess your sins daily to God
2. Experience God's glory as you pray together to bear fruit-bearing disciples that heal people in all nations through the Holy Spirit
3. Follow God's word in organizing how the body of Christ prays together to let Christ have first place in the church and city

Follow God's Word in Organizing How the Body of Christ Prays Together
Ezekiel saw a wall surrounding the temple area. A man measured from the east gate to the outer court including the wall; threshold of the gate; alcoves for the guard; portico, width of the entrance and projecting walls inside the gateway. He measured the outer court from the inside of the lower gateway to the outside of the inner court. He measured the north gate, south gate and gates to the inner court. In the portico of the gateway contained two tables where burnt, sin, and guilt offerings were slaughtered. Outside the inner gate within the inner court were two rooms for Levites, sons of Zadok, in charge of the temple and altar (Ezek. 40:1-47). Follow God's word in organizing how the body of Christ prays together.

Experience God's Glory as You Pray Together
The man measured the temple including the portico, entrance, projecting walls, and outer and inner sanctuary, considered the Most Holy Place. On the doors of the outer sanctuary were carved cherubim and palm trees like those carved on the walls. The north and south rooms facing the temple courtyard were the priests' rooms where they ate the grain, sin and guilt offerings. They did not go into the outer court until they left behind their ministry garments. He measured inside the temple area along with the east, north, south and west side. A wall separated the holy from the common. Ezekiel saw the glory of the God of Israel enter the temple through the gate facing east. His voice was like the roar of rushing waters and the land was radiant with His glory. The Spirit lifted and brought him into the inner court and God's glory filled the temple (Ezek. 40:48-43:5). Experience God's glory as you pray together in the body of Christ.

Follow God's Word to Form an Intimate Relationship with Him
A man inside the temple said this was the place of his throne and for the soles of his feet to live among the Israelites forever. They never again defiled His holy name by spiritual adultery and idols so that God could live among them forever. The man described the temple so Ezekiel could share it with Israel in order for them to be ashamed of their sins. Ezekiel wrote down the design of the temple and measurements of the altar, its arrangements, exits, entrances, regulations and laws so they could follow the plan. God told him the regulations for sacrificing burnt offerings and sprinkling blood on the altar. A young bull would be burned in the designated part of the  temple area as a sin offering by the Levites, of the family of Zadok.  Ezekiel put blood on the four horns of the altar, four corners of the upper ledge and around the rim to purify and make atonement for it. On the second day, he offered a male goat without defect for a sin offering with the altar purified. For seven days he offered a male goat daily for a sin offering to be accepted by God. From the eighth day on, the priests presented the burnt and fellowship offerings on the altar (Ezek. 43:6-27). Follow God's word to form a pure, surrendered and intimate relationship with Him among His people.

Choose Spiritual Leaders Who Practice and Teach God's Word
The outer gate of the sanctuary remained shut because the God of Israel entered through it. The prince entered and left by the portico of the gateway. Ezekiel saw God's glory filling the temple. He told Ezekiel to listen closely concerning the temple's regulations regarding its entrance and sanctuary exits. Rebellious Israel brought uncircumcised foreigners in heart and flesh into God's sanctuary. They put others in charge of it. Levites who worshiped idols bore sin's consequences by not coming near to serve as priests or with the holy offerings. Descendants of Zadok who faithfully carried out their duties could enter the inner court and minister before God wearing linen clothes, turbans and undergarments. They taught His people the difference between the holy and the common and distinguish between the unclean and clean. The priests judge disputes according to God's ordinances (Ezek. 44:1-31). Choose spiritual leaders who practice and teach God's word to others.

Surrender and Confess Your Sins Daily to God
They assigned the Most Holy Place to part of the land as the sacred portion for the priests and an adjoining portion for Israel. God told them to use accurate scales. One sheep was taken from every flock of 200 for grain, burnt and fellowship offerings to make atonement for Israel. The prince provided sin, burnt, grain, drink and fellowship offerings. The priest used blood of the sin offering on the temple doorposts, four corners of upper ledge of the altar and gateposts of the inner court. A sin offering was done on the seventh day of the month for anyone who sinned unintentionally or through ignorance. On the Sabbath, the inner court gate was opened for the priest to sacrifice the burnt (six male lambs and a ram without defect) and fellowship offerings while the people worshiped in God's presence at the entrance. Every day a year-old lamb without defect and a grain offering (sixth of an ephah with a third of a hin of oil to moisten the flour) was sacrificed as a regular burnt offering. Ezekiel saw the sacred rooms where the priests cooked the guilt and sin offerings and baked the grain offerings. He saw the kitchens in the outer court where they cooked the sacrifices of the people (Ezek. 45:1-46:24). Surrender and confess your sins daily to God so you can prepare spiritual people.

Bear Fruit-Bearing Disciples that Heal People in All Nations
Ezekiel saw water coming from under the threshold of the temple. While measuring the temple, the water went from ankle-deep to deep enough for swimming so no one could cross. Water became fresh when it emptied into the Dead Sea revealing large numbers of living fish with fishermen standing from En Gedi to En Eglaim spreading nets. The leaves on fruit trees did not wither or fruit that grew on both banks of the river remained because water flowed from the sanctuary. Their fruit was served for food and the leaves for healing. God revealed the boundaries of the land divided as an inheritance among the twelve tribes of Israel. It ran from the Mediterranean Sea, Damascus, along Jordan and Wadi of Egypt. Aliens with children were considered as native-born Israelites (Ez. 47:1-23). Bear fruit-bearing disciples that heal people in all nations through the Holy Spirit.

Let Christ Have First Place in Church and City
The twelve tribes and their boundaries were listed. Bordering Judah from east to west was a sacred portion with the sanctuary in the center for the consecrated priests, the Zadokites who were faithful in serving God. The priests had territory in the best of the land holy to the Lord. The remaining area was for common use of the city including houses and pastureland to supply food for the workers. What remained on both sides of the area formed by the sacred portion and city property belonged to the prince between  the border of Judah and Benjamin. The exits of the city had gates named after the tribes of Israel. The name of the city was the Lord is there (Ez. 48:1-35). Let Christ have first place in the life of the church and city.

Rate yourself on a scale of 1 to 10 with one being the lowest and ten the highest for the following statements:
1. I surrender daily to God through unceasing prayer
2. I confess my sins daily to God
3. I pray with others
4. I am committed to applying God's word to my life
5. I rely on the power of the Holy Spirit
6. I teach God's word to others
7. I am committed to making disciples
8. I work with a team to see the church pray together across racial and denominational lines so Christ can have first place in the city

Prerequisites of an Effective Congregation (Insights in NT)

"The church is: a conspiracy of love for a dying world, a spy mission into enemy occupied territory ruled by the powers of evil; a prophet from God with the greatest news the world has ever heard, the most life changing and most revolutionary institution that has existed on earth" (Peter Kreeft).

What are the prerequisites of an effective congregation? It preaches Christ so people believe in Him when it demonstrates sound doctrine in the gospel, lives out its faith, prays for leaders in society, encourages men to take spiritual leadership, selects qualified leaders and follows God's instructions on church order.

Preach Sound Doctrine of Christ's Gospel
Paul told Timothy, his son in the faith, to stay in Ephesus and command certain men not to teach false doctrines, myths and endless genealogies that promote controversies rather than God's work of faith. The goal of this command was love from a pure heart, good conscience and sincere faith. The law was good if a man used it properly for lawbreakers, rebels, ungodly, sinful, unholy and irreligious. All were contrary to sound doctrine conforming to the glorious gospel of God entrusted to Paul (1 Tim. 1:1-11). Preach sound doctrine of Christ's gospel in love from a pure heart, good conscience and sincere faith.

Livc Out God's Grace, Faith and Love
Paul was shown mercy after acting in ignorance and unbelief as a blasphemer, persecutor and violent man. God poured out grace, faith and love abundantly through Christ who came into the world to save sinners. The mercy shown Paul as the worst of sinners was an example of His unlimited patience to those who would believe on Him for eternal life. God received glory and honor as the King eternal, immortal and invisible. Paul encouraged Timothy to fight the good fight by holding on to faith and a good conscience instead of rejecting them like Hymenaeus and Alexander (1 Tim. 1:12-20). Live out God's grace, faith and love as an example to unbelievers.

Pray That All Leaders Know Christ
Make prayer a priority, especially for kings and those in authority so people can live peaceful and quiet lives in godliness. God wanted everyone to be saved and know the truth since Jesus was the one mediator between God and man. Paul was appointed a herald, apostle and teacher of the true faith to Gentiles (1 Tim. 2:1-7). Pray that all leaders in authority get rescued and know God's truth in Christ.

Encourage Men to Take Spiritual Leadership
He wanted every man to pray without anger and women to dress modestly without expensive clothes showing their good deeds. Women should learn, submit and not exercise authority over a man. Adam was formed first and Eve was deceived. She became a sinner. Women would be kept safe through childbirth if they continued in faith, love and holiness  (1 Tim. 2:8-15). Encourage men to take spiritual leadership in prayer and teaching God's word.

Select Elders Above Reproach
The qualifications of an elder involved being above reproach, one-woman man, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not given to much wine, gentle, not quarrelsome and not a lover of money. He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey with proper respect as a proving ground for taking care of God's church. He must not be a recent convert and also have a good reputation with outsiders so he would not become conceited or fall into disgrace and the devil's trap (1 Tim. 3:1-7). Choose elders with a heart for the task who are above reproach and manage their families well proving they can take care of God's church.

Select Deacons and Wives Worthy of Respect
The qualifications of deacons involved men worthy of respect, sincere, not taking much wine, not pursuing dishonest gain, holding the deep truths of the faith with a clear conscience and one-woman man who managed his children and household well. Test them before they serve as deacons. Their wives must be worthy of respect, not malicious talkers but temperate and trustworthy in everything. Those who served well gained an excellent standing and great assurance in their faith (1 Tim. 3:8-13). Choose deacons and wives worthy of respect who manage their households well by testing them before they serve.

Follow God's Instructions on Church Order
Paul wrote instructions how people should conduct themselves in God's household or the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth. The mystery of godliness was great: God appeared in a body, vindicated by the Spirit, seen by angels, preached among the nations, believed on in the world and taken up in glory (1 Tim. 3:14-16). Follow God's instructions on church order so Christ is preached and believed on in the world.

Evaluate the effectiveness of your church in preaching Christ so people can believe with the following criteria:
1. Preach sound doctrine of Christ's gospel
2. Lives out its faith
3. Prays for leaders in society
4. Encourages men to take spiritual leadership
5. Selects qualified leaders
6. Follows God's instructions on church order

Father's Fervent Prayer Produces Results (Insights in Prophets)

1/16/2011

You probably heard someone say in time of crisis, “Well, I guess there is nothing to do but pray.” What's more powerful than prayer? It’s the very best thing you can do anytime. James 5:16 says that the effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much. The verb “accomplish” or Greek word, ischuo,” literally means, “capable of producing results.” The passage, 1 Sam. 3, shows how fathers have a special and vital role to pray for the health of their families.

Samuel was ministering to the Lord before Eli during a time when the Lord's word was rare and vision infrequent. Lamp of God was still alive when the Lord called Samuel two times while lying down in the temple of the Lord. The boy responded, “Here I am." Samuel did not yet know the Lord, nor had His word been revealed to him. The third time Eli discerned the Lord was calling Samuel. Eli told him to say, “Speak, Lord, for Thy servant is listening" (1 Sam. 3:1-10). When God starts speaking, listen so you can hear His call.

The Lord said He was going to judge Eli's house forever "because his sons brought a curse on themselves and he did not rebuke them." Furthermore, the iniquity of Eli’s house would not be covered by sacrifice or offering forever (1 Sam. 3:11-14).  Fathers protect God's reputation through prayer and obedience.

When Samuel was afraid to tell the vision to Eli, he encouraged him to not hide anything that God spoke. Samuel told him everything;Eli said for Lord to "do what seems good to Him” (1 Sam. 3:15-18). Fathers have responsibility to live authentically so their children can see God.

Samuel grew, Lord was with him and fulfilled His word. All Israel knew he was confirmed as God's prophet. Lord appeared again at Shiloh because He revealed Himself to Samuel (1 Sam. 3:19-21). Fervent prayer by a father will fulfill God's purposes in a family.

Samuel modeled a prayerful relationship with God while Eli underestimated the power of prayer. Samuel listened to God while Eli's ears were dull. Prayer shut up the heavens from giving rain for three and one-half years in Elijah’s day (Jas. 5:17). Prayer opened a barren womb (1 Sam. 1:11), added fifteen years to Hezekiah’s life (Is. 38:5), stopped the sun so that Israel could finish a battle in the valley of Ajalon (Jos. 10:12) and unlocked the prison bars so that Peter could escape (Acts 12:5). Prayer is powerful because God is powerful. All of heaven’s resources are accessible to His children by means of prayer.

Follow these three steps, especially fathers:
1. Get yourself in a place of rest so you can hear God by confessing sin and removing distractions (television, technology, work, hobbies, etc.).
2. Pray God's word back to Him.
3. Pray what's on your heart believing "He is able to do exceeding abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us" (Eph. 3:20-21).
