Life can be like a treadmill. We get up, go to work and then repeat the same cycle five or six days a week. Even for those who stay at home, life can be an endless cycle of meals, chauffeuring, shopping, laundry and vacuuming.
Life should offer more than monotonous routines. God assigns us as agents for a piece of His creation. God gave Joshua a promise: “Every place on which sole of your foot treads, I have given it to you from the wilderness and Lebanon to Euphrates and Great Sea will be your territory” (Josh. 1:4).
God has given us a purpose so we can influence others in the midst of our tedious responsibilities that often seem meaningless to us. However, the endless demands and problems at home and work sap our strength. This is the reason God gives us the command to be strong and courageous (Josh. 1:6-7).
How do we get strong and courageous so we can get off the treadmill of life and fulfill our purpose? The answer is through meditating on God's word day and night (Josh. 1:8). God’s Word provides direction and strength to accomplish the assignments He has designed for us.
Rather than succumbing to the treadmill of life, His Spirit leads us to opportunities that influence others toward Christ through our words and actions. Only those who feed on God’s Word by thinking through what it says and how it applies to their lives will be faithful. Our primary resource for victory is meditating on God’s Word day and night.
When will you set time to meditate on God's word and get off the treadmill of life?
